Regarding the recent 'gold purity scandal' the following is from the mint's website. Are they scammers or is China launching an infowar to 'scare' investors AWAY from gold purchases? Or something else . . . ?

The Perth Mint responds to ABC TV allegations

The Perth Mint has responded to an ABC Four Corners program on 6 March 2023 which alleged that The Perth Mint could face a potential recall of $9 billion worth of ‘doped’ one-kilogram gold bars from customers in China.

The Perth Mint emphasises that there is no question about the gold purity and value of the gold bars The Perth Mint has sold to customers in China. At all times the one-kilogram bars The Perth Mint produced and sold contained at least 99.99% gold, as per their specifications. This has never been in dispute.

The Perth Mint’s one-kilogram 99.99% gold bars contain up to 0.01% of non-gold materials, including silver and copper. These purity specifications meet industry standards and align with those set by the international market authority, the London Bullion Market Association.

In September 2021, The Perth Mint was made aware that some of its one-kilogram bars did not meet the non-gold specifications of the Shanghai Gold Exchange (SGE). The SGE specifications demand that the non-gold component – that is, 0.01% of the bar or 100 parts per million (ppm) – contains no more than 50 ppm silver.

The Perth Mint immediately launched a review of its refining practices, including how it applied the industry-wide accepted process of ‘doping’ or ‘alloying’ its one-kilogram bars.

Due to the nature of the refining process, there are varying amounts of extra gold above 99.99% in each bar. This is known in the industry as the gold give-away because the customer does not pay for this extra gold. It is gold refining industry practice to minimise the gold give-away without affecting the purity minimum of 99.99%. Minimising is done through ‘doping’ or ‘alloying’ by ensuring sufficient volumes of non-gold elements. This practice does not impact the 99.99% purity of the gold that the customer pays for.

As part of The Perth Mint’s review of refining practices, new processes were implemented to ensure that one-kilogram bars would have on average minimum gold purity of 99.996%, compared with the industry standard of approximately 99.992%. As a result of this new practice, which came into effect in December 2021, the maximum non-gold component in a one-kilogram bar is 0.004% - which adheres to the SGE’s non-gold specification standards.

The Perth Mint is working with its customers and other stakeholders to assure them of our commitment to quality and compliance with all relevant laws and regulations.

The Four Corners program also questioned the checks The Perth Mint makes in relation to retail customers and re-examined historical customer relationships and non-compliance issues.

The Perth Mint is not able to discuss existing or potential customers. Section 74 of the Gold Corporation Act 1987 precludes us from doing so.

The Perth Mint treats all compliance obligations, including in relation to the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing Act 2006 (AML/CTF Act), with utmost seriousness and is continually identifying areas for improvement.

The Perth Mint is a complex business operating under a mix of state, federal and international laws. We have acknowledged there have been shortcomings in the past that led to some non-compliance with relevant laws.

The appointment of Chief Executive Officer Jason Waters just under a year ago was the latest milestone in a significant refresh of the leadership team at The Perth Mint. This has included new heads of the Refinery, Treasury and Risk & Compliance areas.

Under Mr Waters’ leadership, The Perth Mint is prioritising activities to progress its fully funded AML/CTF remediation program through the engagement of additional staff for Know Your Customer (KYC) checks as well as historical customer data remediation, enhanced KYC processes for new clients and an improved technology solution to support customer relationship management.

The independent audit ordered by the regulator AUSTRAC is expected to be completed later this year. The Perth Mint welcomes the audit, which will support and inform its ongoing efforts to maintain strong AML/CTF measures, and continues to actively engage with the auditor.

SANDSTONE, WV – According to a statement from CSX, an empty coal train collided with a rockslide on tracks in West Virginia on Wednesday morning, resulting in a derailment that and fire that injured three crew members.

The incident occurred in Summers County near the New River, causing four locomotives and 22 empty cars to derail. The front locomotive, which three workers on board, caught fire, and the crew members were being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

An unoccupied locomotive was found partially in the waterway, and officials reported an unknown amount of diesel fuel and oil spillage.

Environmental teams were dispatched to contain the spill.

Several state agencies are keeping an eye on the situation, and public water systems downstream have been notified to monitor any possible public health concerns.

CSX clarified that no hazardous materials were being transported, and the public was not in any danger.

"Wartime Scenario" Unfolds As Taiwan Suspects Chinese Ships Cut Undersea Internet Cables

According to Taiwanese authorities, on Feb. 2, a Chinese fishing boat damaged an undersea communications cable that connects Taiwan's main island to Matsu Islands. About one week later, a Chinese cargo ship severed another cable.

Located approximately 30 miles off the coast of China, the tiny island of Dongyin has quickly established a backup communication system, as reported by the WSJ. The new system uses a high-powered microwave radio to transmit data to Taipei. WSJ described the disruption as a "wartime scenario" and "in a potential preview of a Chinese attack."

Taiwan has a network of fourteen undersea fiber-optic cables, some buried as shallow as 6 feet below the seabed. These cables are critical as they provide 95% of the island's data-and-voice traffic.

If Western military planners learned anything from the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Russia made a considerable effort to severe internet infrastructure in the Eastern European country in the early days of the war.

The Ukraine war has demonstrated how vital the internet can be to a smaller country facing invasion, for both mustering global support and coordinating resistance. If China were to cut Taiwan's cables, most of the island would be thrown offline, leaving it vulnerable. –WSJ

The loss of internet across the Matsu Islands has alerted Taiwan to the potential national security threat posed by Beijing, which considers the island nation part of China and has expressed intentions to take control of it.

WSJ said no evidence so far supports Beijing intentionally cut Matsu Island's internet. Taiwanese officials have theorized that illegal Chinese sand dredging around the tiny island exposed the cables and allowed for accidental damage by vessels.

However, Taiwanese lawmakers warn:

"If an internet outage can happen on Matsu, the same could happen in Taiwan," said Wen Lii, director of the ruling Democratic Progressive Party in Matsu's Lienchiang county.

And there's good news for Taiwan just like Ukraine satellite-based internet service Starlink offered by Elon Musk's SpaceX provides high-speed internet that neither Russia nor China can fully disrupt.

Beyond the call for military intervention, some Republicans are laying the blame for border lawlessness on Joe Biden.

The solution will be a push to limit the ability of Americans to own firearms, and it will not involve anything that will slow down the flow of drugs and fentanyl across the border. The government wants you disarmed, and as they’ve shown repeatedly, they don’t care if you die.

As the Democrat-controlled New Mexico legislature barrels ahead with legislation that would put the nail in the coffin of honesty and transparency in New Mexico’s elections, the corruption of the Secretary of State (SOS), Maggie Toulouse Oliver, continues to be exposed.

After hearing public testimony during a November Torrance County public meeting, the Estancia News has done a deep dive on how election results in New Mexico are finalized, or “canvassed.” It turns out the SOS has illegally centralized this process, cutting out the clerks, and breaking multiple state and federal laws in the process.

This series of articles will outline the framework put in place by Toulouse-Oliver and corrupt Senator Daniel Ivey-Soto that could be the mechanism used to illegally undermine elections in New Mexico.

WHAT DOES NEW MEXICO LAW SAY ABOUT REQUIRING COUNTY CLERKS–NOT THE SOS–TO PERFORM ELECTION CANVASSES?

During the canvass, each of the county clerks are to create a “report of the canvass” which gives detailed election results by ballot type and precinct for all the races on the ballot. State law explicitly states that the canvass report is the sole responsibility of the county clerk: “The county clerk shall: prepare the report of the canvass of the election returns by carefully examining the returns of each precinct to ascertain if they contain the properly executed certificates required by the Election Code and to ascertain whether any discrepancy, omission or error appears on the face of the election returns.” (NMSA 1-2-31.F).

Next, the County Commission must review the canvass report and other election documents and accept them if they find no errors, thus certifying the election in the county. Only after this process has been completed within the county are the canvass reports to be sent up to the SOS for the completion of the state canvass, which combines the individual county’s canvass reports into the official election results for the state.

A “canvass” takes place immediately after the election and is the process of consolidating election results, dealing with provisional ballots, and ensuring that all the paperwork reconciles with the digital result. Top American High School got more than $1 million from groups tied to China

PDE obtained the school's donor list, which revealed that the school had received funds from the Ameson Foundation, Shirble HK and Tsinghua University, all Chinese-affiliated groups.

A prestigious U.S. high school reportedly received more than $1 million in donations from Chinese-linked organizations, a report from watchdog group Parents Defending Education indicates.

Thomas Jefferson High School, situated in Fairfax County, Va., focuses on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) education and ranks among the nation's best high schools.

PDE obtained the school's donor list, which revealed that the school had received funds from the Ameson Foundation, Shirble HK and Tsinghua University, all Chinese-affiliated groups, Fox News noted. In total, the school received "over $1,000,000 worth of donations from Chinese interests since 2014," per PDE.

Ameson is a DC-based non-profit group that promotes cultural exchanges between China and other nations. It has donated more than $250,000 to the school. Shirble HK, meanwhile, largely deals with property development in China and has given more than $500,000.

Tsinghua University, for its part, gave $300,000 to the school.

Thomas Jefferson High School previously came under fire late last year over allegations that it withheld certain academic honors from high-achieving students until after many early submission deadlines for colleges, which parents said was motivated by the school's push for equity.

Republican Budget Proposal May Include 45% Cut to Foreign Aid & FBI Funding, Media Reports

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) - A budget proposal expected to be released by Republicans next month in response to President Joe Biden’s proposed budget could include a45% cut to foreign aid and nearly halve the FBI’s counterintelligence funding, the US newspaper reported on Wednesday.

Republicans are working with former Trump administration Office of the Management and Budget Director Russel Vought to develop their own proposal, the report said, citing an interview with Vought.

An outline developed by Vought includes a 45% cut to foreign aid, a cut of the FBI counterintelligence budget by nearly a half and imposing work requirements for food stamp and Medicare beneficiaries, the report said.

The budget outline also proposes phasing out the Section 8 low-income housing program and reducing housing program budgets overall by 43%, the report said.

In addition, Vought’s budget outline would eliminate the Defense Department’s Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and cut $3.4bln in State Department refugee and migration assistance funding, the report said.

Biden is expected to release his budget proposal on Thursday, having urged Republicans in recent weeks to release their own in response.

​Sen. Lindsey Graham said Monday he will introduce a bill laying the groundwork ​for President Biden to use US military force against Mexican drug cartels.

Graham (R-SC) was reacting to the kidnapping of four Americans in the border city of Matamoros — two of whom were found dead Tuesday — and the continued proliferation of dangerous drugs, including highly lethal fentanyl, brought into the United States by the cartels.

“This administration has done nothing about it,” Graham told Fox News’ Jesse Watters.

“I’m going to introduce legislation, Jesse, to make certain Mexican drug cartels foreign terrorist organizations under US law and set the stage to use military force if necessary to protect America from being poisoned by things coming out of Mexico,” he added.

Graham said he agrees with former Attorney General Bill Barr, who wrote in a Wall Street Journal op-ed last week that the US should designate the cartels as terrorist groups and confront them the same way past administrations confronted ISIS in the Middle East.

"I would follow Bill Barr’s advice and get tough on Mexico,” Graham said.

“It’s not just the hostages. Number one, I’d do everything I could to get them back. I’d do what [former President Donald] Trump did. I’d put Mexico on notice. ‘If you continue to give safe haven to fentanyl drug dealers, then you’re an enemy of the United States,’” he added.

Graham added that he would warn Mexico “to clean up your act” or “we’re going to clean it up for you.”

Former Attorney General Bill Barr has called for the US to deal with Mexican drug cartels the way it does overseas terrorist groups.

Also appearing on Watters’ show, Barr said the government of Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador is at the mercy of the cartels.

“The Mexican government is being held hostage by tens of thousands of paramilitary members of terrorist organizations that effectively control Mexico. It’s pretty close at this stage to a failed narco-state. They can use violence and oceans of cash to corrupt the government. The government has no will, and it doesn’t have the ability to deal with the cartels,” Barr told Watters.

Barr went on to urge Obrador to “stand aside” and let the US take on the cartels if he doesn’t want to do so.

“[W]e have to methodically dismantle these groups. And we have to tell the Mexicans they’re either coming along with us for the ride or step aside, we’re going to do it by ourselves,” Barr said.

Vance, R, have led several lawmakers in proposing the Railway Safety Act, which would impose requirements to raise the minimum crews on all trains and tighten regulations on railcar wheel bearings. Republican Sens. Marco Rubio, Fla.; Josh Hawley, Mo.; and Democratic Sen. John Fetterman, Penn., rank among those lawmakers backing the proposal.

Some Republicans, such as Thune, however, remain unconvinced of the bill's merits. Among their concerns is a stipulation that would leave much of the specific regulations to the Department of Transportation. Secretary Pete Buttigieg has come under fire in recent months for his handling of myriad crises, including the East Palestine derailment, and Republicans are reluctant to hand him more authority.

Thune told the outlet he was "uncomfortable" with granting Buttigieg "much more power."

Buttigieg is currently contending with an internal investigation of his use of the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) air fleet for travel.

The U.S. House Committee on the Judiciary and the select subcommittee on the weaponization of the federal government released an interim staff report on Tuesday. The report highlighted the Biden Administration’s attempts “to harass Elon Musk’s Twitter.”

Tuesday’s report started with bombshell allegations:. “The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is orchestrating an aggressive campaign to harass Twitter and deluge it with demands about its personnel decisions in each of the company’s departments, every internal communication relating to Elon Musk, and even Twitter’s interactions with journalists,” read the report.

Elon Musk and the one of the journalists who published the “Twitter Files” — a collection of internal documents and communications detailing the company’s censorship efforts took to Twitter following the report’s release to show their displeasure with the Biden Administration.

The report also highlights that the Biden FTC demanded information from Twitter about why ex-FBI official Jim Baker was terminated from the company.

The released report also scolded the Biden FTC. “There is no logical reason, for example, why the FTC needs to know the identities of journalists engaging with Twitter. There is no logical reason why the FTC, on the basis of user privacy, needs to analyze all of Twitter’s personnel decisions. And there is no logical reason why the FTC needs every single internal Twitter communication about Elon Musk” the report read.

Following the report’s release, the Biden FTC told the Wall Street Journal, “conducting a rigorous investigation into Twitter’s compliance with a consent order that came into effect long before Mr. Musk purchased the company.”

The Twitter files shined light on Twitter’s censorship of Hunter Biden’s laptop and numerous other issues with the company, such as Twitter’s suspension of President Trump and Twitter’s close friendship with the FBI and other U.S. government agencies.

The U.S. House Committee on the Judiciary and the Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government’s next hearing will occur on March 9th at 10 am.

In a new podcast, the former first lady described her “uncontrollable sobbing” after she flew out of Washington in January 2017 and made a dig at the size of the crowd that had gathered to welcome America’s new leader.

“When those doors shut, I cried for 30 minutes straight, uncontrollable sobbing, because that’s how much we were holding it together for eight years,” Mrs Obama said on The Light Podcast, which is being made to promote her latest book The Light We Carry.

Speaking to Hoda Kotb, presenter of NBC’s Today show, Mrs Obama said that she was not in a “good mood” during Mr Trump’s inauguration, but “had to hold it together”.

“There were tears, there was that emotion,” she said.

“But then to sit on that stage and watch the opposite of what we represented on display – there was no diversity, there was no colour on that stage, there was no reflection of the broader sense of America,” she added, in a pointed jab at the incoming administration.

After the ceremony finished, the Obamas flew out of Washington. Mr Trump said at the time: “We had the biggest audience in the history of inaugural speeches.”

Mrs Obama disagreed.

“You take your last flight off, flying over The Capitol, where there weren’t that many people there. We saw it,” she said, which gained laughs from the audience.

The average rate of families who experience domestic violence in the country is around 10 percent. When we look at police officers' families, however, that number quadruples.

As the National Center for Women and Policing points out, two studies have found that at least 40% of police officer families experience domestic violence.

The most recent data on the matter shows that Officer-Involved Domestic Violence or OIDV, is a major problem.

Individuals who are the victims of domestic violence at the hands of police officer-batterers are often in a unique and particularly vulnerable situation. Unlike most victims of domestic violence, where the success of protective efforts depends on the cooperation of law enforcement, those subject to officer-involved domestic violence (OIDV) may, for a variety of reasons, be unable to secure the assistance they seek. This is particularly troublesome in light of increased rates of domestic violence in police officer families.

Even more startling than the fact that 40% of police officer families experiencing domestic violence is the fact that this number is likely far higher as it is estimated that much of it goes unreported.

According to Leigh Goodmark, author of Hands Up at Home: Militarized Masculinity and Police Officers Who Commit Intimate Partner,

The data on intimate partner abuse by police officers are both dated and potentially flawed, but in ways that make it more likely that abuse is being under—rather than over—reported. Most of the studies rely on self-reporting by police officers to establish prevalence of abuse. A Norfolk Southern train conductor has been killed in Clevelandafter yet another railroad incident in Ohio.

The conductor died after a dump truck attempted to cross the tracks and collided with one of the cars of a passing train.

The fatal incident occurred around 1.30 am on Tuesday morning.

An individual driving a Caterpillar 769C filled with limestone had reportedly stopped at a stop sign just before railroad tracks located near a Cleveland-Cliffs’ Cleveland Works facility.
