The Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. (FDIC) and Federal Reserve are discussing creating a fund to backstop deposits if more banks fail following the collapse of Silicon Valley Bank.

 

Silicon Valley Bank was shut down by regulators on Friday in the biggest bank failure since the 2008 liquidity crisis.

 

Silicon Valley Bank reportedly held $173 billion in deposits.

The Fed interest rate is at 4.57% and $117 billion of Silicon Valley Bank securities are yielding only 1.56-1.66% โ€“ this is causing a run on the bank.

 

By Friday Silicon Valley Bank was in FDIC receivership.

 

The Federal Reserve caused the run on the bank by raising interest rates seven times in 2022.

 

2022โ€™s rate hikes totaling 450 basis points is causing problems for bankers because investors want to move their money into higher-yield bonds.

 

After creating the problem in the first place, the Federal Reserve is now discussing a new vehicle that would allow regulators to backstop deposits if more banks were to collapse.

Yellen says no federal bailout for Silicon Valley Bank

 

WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) โ€” Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said Sunday that the federal government would not bail out Silicon Valley Bank, but is working to help depositors who are concerned about their money.

The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation insures deposits up to $250,000, but many of the companies and wealthy people who used the bank โ€” known for its relationships with technology startups and venture capital โ€” had more than that amount in their account. There are fears that some workers across the country won't receive their paychecks.

Yellen, in an interview with CBS' โ€œFace the Nation,โ€ provided few details on the government's next steps. But she emphasized that the situation was much different from the financial crisis almost 15 years ago, which led to bank bailouts to protect the industry.

โ€œWeโ€™re not going to do that again," she said. "But we are concerned about depositors, and weโ€™re focused on trying to meet their needs.โ€

With Wall Street rattled, Yellen tried to reassure Americans that there will be no domino effect after the collapse of Silicon Valley Bank.

One big problem stems from bad education. Most Americans no longer understand the distinction between violence and force.

 

Violence has been enacted upon you, and all other people of the world. It's called genocide.

 

What is violence to be met with? Force. Self-defense is not violence, but righteous force.
