Rick Johnson, the former head of Michigan’s medical marijuana licensing board and former state House speaker, has admitted to accepting over $110,000 in bribes to help businesses get medical marijuana licenses.

Johnson has agreed to plead guilty to the felony charge of accepting a bribe and has agreed to cooperate with the FBI and the US attorney’s office in the investigation.

Johnson faces a maximum of 10 years in prison and a fine of $250,000, and he must repay the $110,200 that he received in cash payments and benefits. If Johnson fully cooperates, the US attorney’s office may file a motion to reduce his sentence.

Ukraine grooming Russian youth for terror attacks – FSB

Kiev and Western special services are waging an aggressive brainwashing campaign, Alexander Bortnikov has claimed

Western and Ukrainian intelligence services are trying to recruit Russian youth to carry out terrorist attacks against their own country, Alexander Bortnikov, the head of Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB), said on Tuesday.

Speaking at a session of the National Anti-Terrorism Committee (NAK), over which he presides, Bortnikov claimed, according to the NAK statement, that amid the ongoing conflict between Moscow and Kiev, “Ukraine and their Western sponsors’ special serviceshave launched an aggressive brainwashing and recruitment [campaign] on our citizens.”

One of the main tasks of Kiev and their Western backers is to target “especially the younger generation to involve them in sabotage, terrorist and extremist activities,” he added.

Since February 2022, when Moscow launched its operation against Ukraine,Russia has prevented 118 terrorist crimesbeing prepared byyoung people and minors, Bortnikov said.

The FSB director also pointed to “a serious threat” stemming from attempts bysome students, who are influenced by various “destructive subcultures,” to lay the groundwork forattacks on Russian schoolsand other educational institutions. “Some of [these subcultures] arecoordinated from Ukrainianterritory,” he added, according to the statement.

With this in mind, NAK members have discussed measures aimed to prevent terrorist activities. Such steps include awareness-building campaigns in educational institutions, with an emphasis on “countering terrorism and neo-Nazi ideology among the youth” in former Ukrainian regions that voted to join Russia last autumn.

The meeting of the committee came after prominent military blogger Vladlen Tatarsky was murdered in a blast in a St. Petersburg cafe earlier this month. The explosion, which also injured several dozen people, was caused by a statuette brought to the event by Darya Trepova, 26, who is now in police custody.

However, Russian authorities have said that the bomb plot was orchestrated by Ukrainian special services using agents collaborating with opposition figure Alexey Navalny’s anti-corruption fund FBK, which was designated an extremist organization in 2021.

In late February, Russian President Vladimir Putin warned that theWest had “never hesitatedto use both radicals and extremists for their own interests.” “They always use against us whatever is at hand,” he said at the time.

Leaker of damaging U.S. intelligence files was reportedly administrator of a Discord chat room

The U.S. is scrambling to contain the damage from the leak of potentially hundreds of classified documents discovered last week on social media sites. The Justice Department is investigating to figure out who leaked the documents and why, and the Pentagon is working with the State Department, White House, and intelligence agencies to determine how damaging the leak is, try and assuage angry allies, and figure out how to prevent future breaches.

At this point, "we don't know who is behind this; we don't know what the motive is," National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said Monday. "We don't know what else might be out there."

Users of the social media site Discord say an administrator of a closed group chat room, or server, called "Thug Shaker Central" posted hundreds of classified documents during arguments over Russia's Ukraine invasion. Most of the documents that have emerged are from February and March, but the open-source investigators at Bellingcat said they saw evidence of documents from January. Bellingcat traced a handful of leaked documents from Thug Shaker Central to two larger Discord servers in early March, then 4Chan, and finally, on April 5, pro-Russia Telegram channels. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin was briefed on the leak April 6.

Bellingcat spoke with three members of the Thug Shaker Central server, which was deleted April 7, and they described it as a tight-knit community of about 20 active users who shared an interest in video games, music, and Orthodox Christianity. The server "was not especially geopolitical in nature, although its users had a staunchly conservative stance on several issues," Bellingcat recounted. "Racial slurs and racist memes were shared widely."

The Discord users all refused to identify the person who posted the classified files, and one user told The Associated Press he kept copies of "way past hundreds" of the documents posted by "O.G." He said Americans deserve to see the files, and "on the off chance that the O.G. gets arrested, I'm leaking them all." Discord said it is cooperating with law enforcement investigating the leak.

"A surprisingly large number of people potentially had access to the Pentagon intelligence documents," The New York Times reports, "but clues left online may help investigators narrow down the pool of possible suspects relatively quickly." Notably, the Times says, "the intelligence materials appear to have been first photographed and then uploaded online, a kind of sloppy procedure" that could yield promising digital fingerprints.

Kremlin responds to claim of secret rocket purchases

The report about a plan to receive weapons from Egypt is false, spokesman Dmitry Peskov has said

The Kremlin has rejected a claim that it was planning tosecretly acquire rocketsfrom Egypt. The allegations were said to have come fromleaked US intelligence files.

“This looks like yet another false story, as there are many of them today [in the media]. That is how one should treat such reports,”spokesman Dmitry Peskov said in a phone call with journalists on Tuesday.

The Washington Post cited a US intelligence document on Monday that claimed Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi had ordered the production of up to 40,000 rockets so they could be discreetly shipped to Russia.

El-Sisi was quoted as telling officials that the operation should be secret “to avoid problems with the West.” He also reportedly mentioned plans to supply Moscow with artillery rounds and gunpowder.

According to the Post, the document was among alleged classified Pentagon files that were dumped online earlier this year and unearthed by news organizations last week.

Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid told the Post thatCairo remains committed to non-involvement in the Ukraineconflict and to “maintain equal distance with both sides.”

“We continue to urge both parties to cease hostilities and reach a political solution through negotiations,” Zeid said.

Al Qahera News, meanwhile, cited an Egyptian official who claimed that the Post’s story is “nonsense that is not based on truth.”

Egypt has maintained close ties with Moscow since Soviet times and is one of the top buyers of Russian weapons. At the same time, the country has good relations with the US, as the two states share a history of security cooperation. The US has also provided military assistance to Egypt.

The US and its allies have imposed sweeping sanctions on Russia over the Ukraine conflict, aiming to cut its export revenues.

Sergey Chemezov – the head of state-run Russian company Rostec, which oversees the work of several defense manufacturers – said in January that the production of munitions has been substantially increased. He stated that “the talk… about Russia running out of rockets and rounds is complete nonsense.”

USSF completes service dress uniform fit tests

WASHINGTON, DC – The U.S. Space Force completed its final service dress uniform fit test March 27-31 at the Pentagon. The initial fit test was conducted February 13-17 at Peterson Space Force Base.

Fit tests are an essential process in developing the prototype’s sizing and fit. One hundred Guardians worldwide were selected as fit test participants, an important milestone in delivering a first-rate uniform.

“From the word ‘go’ we have been committed to keeping Guardian feedback at the forefront of developing the service dress,” said Col. James Jenkins, director of the Office of Change Management Team. “We know Guardians are excited for a uniform they can call their own and we are accelerating as quickly as possible to deliver a product they can wear with pride.”

The Space Force unveiled its initial service dress uniform prototype in September 2021, quickly followed by a uniform roadshow garnering Guardian feedback.

“We used Guardian focus groups and roadshows to narrow service dress design options,” said Wade Yamada, U.S. Space Force Director of Staff deputy. “We listened intently to Guardian design and fit requests. In many ways, Guardians helped select our current service dress design.”

The next step in developing the service dress uniform is the wear test to assess the durability, functionality and comfort of the prototype. The wear test will begin in summer 2023.

During the wear test, Guardians will wear the uniform three times a week and provide detailed feedback assessing the prototypes.

“We are excited by Guardians’ input into their future uniform,” said Catherine Lovelady, Office of Change Management Team uniform lead. “We are passionate about ensuring our members continue to have a voice in shaping a unique Space Force uniform.”

Guardian feedback will continually be at the forefront of uniform development as the service works toward delivering to the force in late 2025.

Pentagon leaks suggest Russian hackers attacked Canadian pipeline – NYT

The documents do not specify which pipeline was infiltrated and Canadian operatorshave not confirmed any significant hacking incidents

A Russian government-connected hacktivist group has reportedly claimed to have breached the networks of a Canadian gas pipeline, according to a recent piece by the New York Times.

Citing the leaked Pentagon papers, the outlet claims that the classified documents contained an exchange betweenunspecified Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) officers and a cybercriminal group called ‘Zarya’.

In their communications with the FSB, the hackers allegedly shared screenshots in February that showed they had the capability to increase valve pressure, disable alarms and make emergency shutdowns of an unspecified gas distribution station in Canada.

According to the documents, the FSB officers anticipated that “a successful operation would cause an explosion at the gas distribution station” and were “monitoring Canadian news reports for indications of an explosion.”

The New York Times reports that it has beenunable to verify any of this intelligence independently, while the Canadian Communications Security Establishment, which is responsible for Canada’s foreign intelligence gathering and cybersecurity, has refused to comment on any specific incidents.

Canada’s CBC News and the Canadian Press have also not been able to verify the claims, but noted that two pipeline operators – TC Energy and Enbridge – have stated that their infrastructurehad not been compromisedby any hacking attempts.

The White House, National Security Council and Department of Homeland Security have all declined to comment on the pipeline claims, while National Security Council spokesman John Kirby suggested on Monday that some of the documents in the leaked tranche “have been doctored.”

The batch of sensitive documents appeared online in late February and early March on the chat platform Discord, but the first reports on the leaks did not emerge until last week.

Western media outlets have reported that the Biden administration is currently in “crisis mode” and that the Pentagon has launched an internal investigation into the leak, which it says poses a “very serious risk” to Washington.

A number of officials, however, including from US-allied countries,have cast doubton the authenticity of the leak, pointing to a number of inconsistencies and factual inaccuracies. U.S. officials have also had concerns about a counterintelligence assessment that Ms. Murdoch was lobbying for a high-profile construction project funded by the Chinese government in Washington, D.C., one of these people said.

The project, a planned $100 million Chinese garden at the National Arboretum, was deemed a national-security risk because it included a 70-foot-tall white tower that could potentially be used for surveillance, according to people familiar with the intelligence community’s deliberations over the garden. The garden was planned on one of the higher patches of land near downtown Washington, less than 5 miles from both the Capitol and the White House.

Ms. Murdoch in 1999 married Rupert Murdoch, who is the executive chairman of News Corp, which publishes The Wall Street Journal. Mr. Murdoch filed for divorce in 2013. Ms. Murdoch still uses her married name.

It is common for counterintelligence officials to warn senior members of a new administration about interactions with people with foreign connections, and such briefings sometimes refer to specific people, according to people familiar with the protocols.

A spokesman for Ms. Murdoch said she “has no knowledge of any FBI concerns or other intelligence agency concerns relating to her or her associations.” He added that she “has absolutely no knowledge of any garden projects funded by the Chinese government.”

The sides also discussed a possible acceleration of the ongoingexpansion of Hungary’s Paks nuclear power plant by Rosatom.The two countries’ nuclear cooperation has sparked a backlash from some EU member states.

Hungary, which is about 85% dependent on Russian gas, has repeatedly criticized the EU over its sanctions policy against Moscow. Budapest has strongly opposed calls to introduce restrictions on Russian gas imports and has also vowed to oppose any curbs on Russia’s nuclear energy industry. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has managed to secure an exemption from the bloc’s sanctions on Russian crude oil imports.

… Massie sent letters Monday to senior Food and Drug Administration (FDA) vaccine officials, letting them know the House Judiciary Committee will be investigating allegations the Biden administration interfered in the FDA’s authorization and licensure of the COVID-19 vaccines.

RFK Jr. sounds alarm bells on FedNow and CBDCs

On April 11, RFK Jr. took to Twitter to express his concerns over CBDCs, calling them the “ultimate mechanisms for social surveillance and control”.

He questioned the Fed’s claim that FedNow wouldn’t be used to facilitate a CBDC, stating that it would be more easily digestible were it not for the Biden administration’s hostility towards cryptocurrencies.

Kennedy also accused the government of colluding with banksters to keep people trapped in the bubble of profiteering and control.

He cited Nic Carter’s February 8 post on Pirate Wires, where Carter described 15 incidents where President Biden has weaponized the FDIC, OCC, and DOJ to force crypto-friendly banks to close their doors to crypto firms.

DeSantis joins RFK Jr. to ban CBDCs in Florida

Governor DeSantis of Florida shares RFK Jr.’s concerns about CBDCs, stating that they could be used to curtail firearm purchases or limit gasoline sales.

He introduced a ban on CBDCs from any country to Florida’s legislature, suggesting that the technology could be used to control citizens’ behavior.

FedNow is the Federal Reserve’s new instant payment service, allowing customers at participating banks and credit unions to send and receive the money within seconds, 24/7, and every day.

The service is expected to come online in July 2023 and will be available to all banks and credit unions. However, there’s no requirement for them to join.

According to Fed Chair Jerome Powell, FedNow will enable all banks in the United States, not just the big ones, to offer instantly available funds and real-time payments to their customers. Neobanks would need to partner with a participant bank to offer the service.

FedNow isn’t a CBDC, says the Federal Reserve

The Federal Reserve issued clarity on its upcoming launch of FedNow, claiming that it is not launching a CBDC. The Fed asserted that FedNow is a payments service, not a form of currency, nor a step towards eliminating any payment form, including cash.

CBDCs are digital assets pegged to a sovereign currency, issued and managed by their respective governments or central banks.

The Fed reiterated that the U.S. central bank will not release a retail CBDC without written approval from Congress. It also stated that the executive branch would have to be on board.

RFK Jr. and Governor DeSantis’ concerns about FedNow stem from the fear that the government would use the payments system as a tool of surveillance and control.

Although the Federal Reserve has stated that FedNow is not a CBDC, the fear of the government’s intentions toward the crypto industry persists.

The government must assure its citizens that their privacy and civil liberties are not at risk, and it must engage in transparent dialogue with crypto industry stakeholders to address their concerns.
