The Dalai Lama's advancing years may have curtailed his foreign travel schedule, but the spiritual leader says he hasn't received a call from Mr Trump either.

In a scathing assessment, he said the 45th president's time in office was defined by a "lack of moral principle", a contrast to remarks made in 2016 when he said he had "no worries" about a Trump presidency.

"When he became president he expressed America first. That is wrong," the Dalai Lama told me.

The withdrawal from the Paris climate accord and the migrant crisis are two big areas of concern. "When I saw pictures of some of those young children, I was sad," he said of the situation at the US-Mexico border. "America… should take a global responsibility."

Trudeau Foundation collapses amid Chinese donation scheme

Weeks after returning a Chinese Communist Party-backed donation, the entire Board of Directors, President, and CEO from the Pierre Elliot Trudeau Foundation have resigned.

A statement released by the Pierre Elliot Trudeau foundation on Tuesday indicates the scandal was too much to handle for the foundation’s current brass.

“In recent weeks, the political climate surrounding a donation received by the Foundation in 2016 has put a great deal of pressure on the Foundation’s management and volunteer Board of Directors, as well as on our staff and our community,” the statement reads.

“The circumstances created by the politicization of the Foundation have made it impossible to continue with the status quo, and the volunteer Board of Directors has resigned, as has the President and CEO.”

Last month, The Pierre Elliot Trudeau Foundation decided to give back the Chinese Communist Party-backed donation recently discovered. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s family foundation announced it would return the money “to the donor.”

This followed Prime Minister Trudeau saying that he wasn’t involved with his family’s charity ever since he was elected in 2015, suggesting he had no idea that CCP advisor Zhang Bin donated to the Trudeau Foundation in 2016.

However, Trudeau met Zhang in 2016 at a cash-for-access Liberal Party fundraiser hosted by the Chinese Business Chamber of Canada chair Benson Wong. Trudeau was the guest of honour at the event.

Zhang donated $1 million to “honour the memory and leadership” of Trudeau’s father and former Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau, as reported in the Globe and Mail.

Zhang’s donation consisted of $200,000 to the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation, $750,000 to the University of Montreal’s faculty of law (where Pierre Trudeau graduated from and worked), as well as $50,000 towards a statue of Pierre Trudeau.

Donations to the Trudeau Foundation increased ten fold between 2014 and 2016, the two years between Trudeau first getting elected Prime Minister.

Elon Musk’s Twitter waging war on Substack and Brighteon; no links allowed

There is more trouble in social media paradise as Substack writers have learned that the corrupt social media platform known as Twitter is no longer allowing any Substack links to be liked, retweeted, or pinned.

If a Twitter user tries to embed a Substack link in a tweet, that tweet will now automatically lose its ability to be liked, retweeted, or even commented on. Furthermore, Twitter users can no longer pin a tweet to their profile that contains a Substack link.

Just one day before Twitter imposed this drastic and unexpected change, Substack introduced a new feature called Substack Notes that brings a social media-like feed with tweet-like posts to the popular independent newsletter platform – though, to be clear, Substack Notes is not a Twitter competitor because it exists solely within the newsletter platform’s ecosystem.

“We’re disappointed that Twitter has chosen to restrict writers’ ability to share their work,” said Substack founders Chris Best, Hamish McKenzie, and Jairaj Sethi in a statement provided to Mashable about the issue.

“Writers deserve the freedom to share links to Substack or anywhere else. This abrupt change is a reminder of why writers deserve a model that puts them in charge, that rewards great work with money, and that protects the free press and free speech. Their livelihoods should not be tied to platforms where they don’t own their relationship with their audience, and where the rules can change on a whim.”

Twitter also banned Brighteon links from being shared AT ALL

An even worse form of censorship exists for Brighteon links, by the way. If a Twitter user attempts to embed a Brighteon link in a tweet, that tweet will not even post at all. Instead, a pop-up message appears that says:

“We can’t complete this request because this link has been identified by Twitter or our partners as being potentially harmful.”

Mind you, it does not matter which video one tries to share from Brighteon, as the entire domain name has been banned from the platform.

It is clear from all this that absolutely nothing has changed at Twitter on the First Amendment front, despite being taken over and taken private by electric vehicle (EV) nerd Elon Musk, who pretends to support things like free speech but in practice is just another billionaire grifter who craves attention.

None of this is a good look for Twitter, which is now losing popularity even with leftists simply because Musk is at the helm. This latest move to limit the spread of Substack links will only drive yet another nail in the social media platform’s inevitable coffin.

States’ Lawsuit Reveals Feds Pushed Censorship Tools to Big Tech

Disclosures brought about by Missouri and Louisiana’s tech First Amendment lawsuit against the federal government reveal that the U.S. State Department actively marketed government-funded online censorship tools to Big Tech companies.

As reported by the Federalist, an official at the State Department’s Global Engagement Center, or GEC, sent an email to the popular business networking platform LinkedIn advertising the so-called “disinfo cloud,” a GEC-funded project that sought to identify “disinformation” online.

GEC senior advisor Samaruddin Stewart first wrote to LinkedIn in February 2020, requesting a meeting, saying he had been “tasked with building relationships with technology companies,” and that he was reaching out to companies interested in “countering disinformation.”

In another email to LinkedIn employees following the meeting, Stewart advertised the GEC’s censorship tool.

“I’ll send information… about gaining access to Disinfo Cloud — which is a GEC funded platform that offers stakeholders an opportunity to discover companies, technology, and tools that can assist with identifying, understanding, and addressing disinformation,” said Stewart.

The Disinfo Cloud was advertised to firms as a “one-stop shop” for a tech company to “identify and then test tools that counter propaganda and disinformation.”

In addition to funding the Disinfo Cloud, the GEC also helped fund the Global Disinformation Index (GDI), an organization that sought to blacklist conservative media as spreaders of misinformation, financially attacking them by spreading the smear to advertisers.

This is just the latest explosive revelation brought about by the lawsuit, brought by state attorney general Jeff Landry of Louisiana, and former Missouri attorney general Eric Schmitt, who is now a U.S. Senator.

The lawsuit alleges the Biden Administration infringed the First Amendment by colluding with tech companies to censor Americans, and has revealed more information about that collusion as time has gone on.

U.S. Embassy Officials in Albania Shown Working Directly with Soros Operatives to Channel Grant Money into Left-Wing Operations that Attack Traditional, Pro-American Groups, Governments and Policies in Name of ‘Civil Society’

(Washington, DC) – Judicial Watch today released 49 pages of new documents obtained from the U.S. Department of State about U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) funding for George Soros’s left-wing nonprofit organizations in Albania. The documents deal primarily with the activities of Soros’ top operative in Albania, Andri Dobrushi, the director of Open Society Foundation-Albania, who was actively engaged in channeling funding to what Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban calls Soros’ “mercenary army.” The documents show U.S. grant money flowing through non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that profess to promote “civil society,” while in fact attacking traditional, pro-American groups, governments and policies.

Judicial Watch filed a May 26, 2017, Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit against the U.S. Department of State and USAID after they failed to respond to March 31, 2017, FOIA requests (Judicial Watch v. U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Agency for International Development (No. 1:17-cv-01012)).

The records reveal that Soros operative Dobrushi was the first person on a list of invitees by then U.S. Ambassador to Albania Donald Lu to attend an “election rollout event” held at the U.S. Embassy on April 27, 2015. The event was intended to “launch U.S. assistance for the June local elections,” being held in Tirana, Albania. As Judicial Watch previously reported in an April 4, 2018, press release, Ambassador Lu has been closely associated with Soros and the socialist government in Albania, which he assisted by denying U.S. visas to conservative jurists from the conservative party in Albania. Lu has since been nominated by the Trump administration to become US Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan.

President Macron has Become a ‘Madman’ Says Senior Opposition MP

French President Emmanuel Macron is a “madman”, a senior figure within the French parliament has declared.

Boris Vallaud, who leads the Socialist Party within the French parliament, has described Emmanuel Macron as being a “madman” in an interview.

The denunciation is one of many others levelled at the French President in recent days, with the head of state angering allies and enemies alike with his aggressive push to pass reforms at, seemingly, any cost.

According to a report in Le Figaro, Vallaud lashed out at Macron’s continued bullheaded support for his pension reform system, something that is overwhelmingly unpopular in the country.

“I do not accept that Emmanuel Macron has a mandate to apply this reform,” the Socialist leader said.

He meanwhile described Macron as seemingly becoming ever more “entrenched” in the Elysée palace as opposition to him mounts, attacking the “obstinancy” of the President — who he now considers a “madman” — who has opted to lash out at the general public for opposing him rather than listen to their perspectives.

“Humiliation is a form of government method with Emmanuel Macron,” Vallaud said, adding that France was now in a “democratic crisis” thanks to Macron.

In response to the French President’s forcing through of his extremely unpopular pension reforms, the senior Socialist said that his party was now planning on tabling a new bill in the country’s parliament aimed at reversing the forcibly implemented changes.

“It would be a way to give voice to the French who demand a form of continuous democracy,” he said, referencing the fact that the parliament was not given an opportunity to vote on the reforms the first time around due to the French government abusing a constitutional loophole.

Such a bill is likely not at the forefront of Macron’s mind right now though, with the French President having seemingly moved on to antagonising the United States over issues in China.

That included working with the country’s socialist government to push for highly controversial judicial “reform.” The records also detail how the Soros operation helped the State Department review grant applications from other groups for taxpayer funding. Pentagon leaks suggest Russian hackers attacked Canadian pipeline – NYT

The documents do not specify which pipeline was infiltrated and Canadian operators have not confirmed any significant hacking incidents

A Russian government-connected hacktivist group has reportedly claimed to have breached the networks of a Canadian gas pipeline, according to a recent piece by the New York Times.

Citing the leaked Pentagon papers, the outlet claims that the classified documents contained an exchange between unspecified Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) officers and a cybercriminal group called ‘Zarya’.

In their communications with the FSB, the hackers allegedly shared screenshots in February that showed they had the capability to increase valve pressure, disable alarms and make emergency shutdowns of an unspecified gas distribution station in Canada.

According to the documents, the FSB officers anticipated that “a successful operation would cause an explosion at the gas distribution station” and were “monitoring Canadian news reports for indications of an explosion.”

The New York Times reports that it has been unable to verify any of this intelligence independently, while the Canadian Communications Security Establishment, which is responsible for Canada’s foreign intelligence gathering and cybersecurity, has refused to comment on any specific incidents.

Canada’s CBC News and the Canadian Press have also not been able to verify the claims, but noted that two pipeline operators – TC Energy and Enbridge – have stated that their infrastructure had not been compromised by any hacking attempts.

The White House, National Security Council and Department of Homeland Security have all declined to comment on the pipeline claims, while National Security Council spokesman John Kirby suggested on Monday that some of the documents in the leaked tranche “have been doctored.”

The batch of sensitive documents appeared online in late February and early March on the chat platform Discord, but the first reports on the leaks did not emerge until last week.

Western media outlets have reported that the Biden administration is currently in “crisis mode” and that the Pentagon has launched an internal investigation into the leak, which it says poses a “very serious risk” to Washington.

A number of officials, however, including from US-allied countries, have cast doubt on the authenticity of the leak, pointing to a number of inconsistencies and factual inaccuracies. Ukraine, which is heavily featured in the papers, has even suggested that the leak is a Russian ploy to derail Kiev’s planned spring counteroffensive.

Bragg sues Jim Jordan over ‘campaign to intimidate and attack’

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg (D) sued House Judiciary Chair Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) Tuesday, calling his investigation into Bragg’s prosecution of former President Trump a “transparent campaign to intimidate and attack” his office’s work.

The suit, filed in federal court in New York, is the most aggressive pushback yet from Bragg in response to Jordan, who in recent days subpoenaed a former prosecutor who worked on the Trump investigation and last week asked another employee to turn over personal emails about his hiring process.

“Congress has no power to supervise state criminal prosecutions. Nor does Congress have the power to serve subpoenas ‘for the personal aggrandizement of the investigators or to punish those investigated,’” Bragg’s office writes in the suit, pointing to a case initiated by Trump that ultimately limited Congress’s subpoena power.

Bragg has also resisted efforts from Jordan to secure his testimony, arguing in prior letters that Jordan’s requests would violate the rights of those involved in the process, including Trump himself.

“The charges the District Attorney filed against Mr. Trump were approved by citizens of New York,” the suit states.

“Rather than allowing the criminal process to proceed in the ordinary course, Chairman Jordan and the Committee are participating in a campaign of intimidation, retaliation, and obstruction.”

Jordan started his own review of Bragg’s investigation just days after Trump predicted he would be arrested in connection with the probe and called on his supporters to protest.

Bragg filed an indictment of Trump last week, charging him with 34 felony counts of misclassification of business records, a charge elevated due to alleged efforts to conceal the payments to aid Trump’s 2016 election prospects.

Bragg has yet to be subpoenaed by Jordan. But Jordan did subpoena Mark Pomerantz, who resigned from the Trump investigation about a year ago over disagreements with Bragg over the Trump case.

In a resignation letter published by the New York Times, Pomerantz wrote that Bragg’s reluctance to pursue charges against Trump was “misguided and completely contrary to the public interest.”

The suit seeks an injunction to block the subpoena of Pomerantz as well as any future subpoena issued to Bragg or others in his office.

It also notes that any subpoena would violate laws surrounding grand jury secrecy and privilege.

A prominent New York doctor is facing a federal, four-count indictment after he was accused of sexually assaulting multiple patients, including minors, for more than five years beginning in 2015.

New York authorities arrested Dr. Darius Paduch, a 55-year-old former urologist at the New York-Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medical Center, on Tuesday morning.

Paduch is charged with two counts of inducement of a person to travel to engage in unlawful sexual activity and two counts of inducement of a minor to engage in unlawful sexual activity "for his yearslong [sic] sexual abuse of two victims who were his patients and who were minors during part of the period of abuse," the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York announced Tuesday.

Judicial Watch Sues FBI For Records on Hunter Biden Gun Scandal

Judicial Watch announced today that it filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit for FBI records about the gun owned by Hunter Biden that reportedly was thrown in a trash can behind a Delaware grocery store (Judicial Watch v. U.S. Department of Justice (No. 1:23-cv-00920)).

Judicial Watch filed suit after the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) withheld records in response to a January 30, 2023, FOIA request for:

All records, including investigative reports, telephone logs, witness statements, memoranda, and firearms purchase documentation, related to the reported purchase, possession, and disposal of a firearm owned by Hunter Biden discarded in a Delaware trash receptacle circa October 2018.

All records of communications of FBI officials regarding the reported purchase, possession, and disposal of the firearm.

In a separate lawsuit, Judicial Watch received records from the United States Secret Service that implicate the FBI in the unusual action to help Hunter Biden.

Included in those records is a response to a February 2021 email inquiry from Politico reporter Ben Schreckinger regarding the Secret Service’s involvement in the investigation of the Hunter Biden gun incident, the Communications Department asks for “more information or documentation.” Schreckinger responds: “Sure thing. Agents visited StarQuest Shooters & Survival Supply and asked to take possession of the paperwork Hunter had filled out to purchase a gun there. The FBI also had some involvement in the investigation.”

Also in those records is a March 2021 email from New York Post reporter Lorena Mongelli, who reached out to the Secret Service Communications Office, asking for comment on text messages on Hunter Biden’s lost laptop:

It appears the text messages were sent from Hunter Biden in which he indicates that the Secret Service did in fact respond to the Oct. 23, 2018 [gun] incident. This information contradicts your previous statement relating to the incident and we would like to know whether the Secret Service would like to respond to these new findings.

A person from the Communications Office, whose name is redacted replies: “We have received your inquiry, would you be able to provide copies of these alleged text messages for reference?”

Clashes Broke Out Between Armenia And Azerbaijan

On April 11, the military departments of Armenia and Azerbaijan again accused each other of violating the ceasefire regime.

The Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan claimed that units of the Armenian Armed Forces opened intense fire with small arms on the opposing positions of the Azerbaijani Army in the Lachin direction. Fire was opened from the Armenian military positions near the settlement of Dyg in the Goris district.

In its turn, the Armenian Defense Ministry reported that the Azerbaijani military opened fire on Armenian soldiers who were carrying out engineering work near the village of Tegh. This village is located in the eastern part of the region, on the highway from Yerevan and Goris to Stepanakert. A little later, the Azerbaijani Armed Forces units reportedly launched mortar fire in the same direction.

As a result of the clashes, there were reports of dead and wounded on both sides. The Azerbaijani Defense Ministry announced that three serviceman were killed and several others were wounded after the shooting.

According to some local reports, there are three dead and many wounded on the Armenian side. Among the injured is the commander of the special army corps Armen Gezalyan, who is currently in a hospital. At the same time, the death toll may increase, since the Armenian military has not yet managed to remove the wounded from the scene of the shootout.

Earlier on April 11, two Azerbaijani soldiers entered Armenian territory from Nakhichevan. At night, the local residents noticed two suspicious persons in the Syunik region of Armenia in the village of Bnunis. One of them was captured. The second soldier is wanted by the Armenian special services.

The Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan issued a message that two soldiers in Nakhichevan got lost and disappeared. The deputy of the Armenian parliament considered that the Azerbaijani military fled from their positions and crossed the border.

Joel Koskan, who ran for SD Senate, pleads guilty to 2 counts of felony incest

PIERRE — Joel Koskan, who ran unsuccessfully for state Senate in 2022 and days before the election was arrested on charges relating to child abuse, pleaded guilty to two counts of felony incest Tuesday morning.

He was sentenced in a Hughes County court room to 10 years in the South Dakota State Penitentiary.

"This is the first part of the healing process," Judge Margo Northrup said during the hearing.

Koskan, 44, originally faced felony child abuse charges for acts that allegedly took place between October 2014 and October 2016, according to court documents filed in November. He exposed his victim, a now 20-year-old woman, to "sexual grooming behaviors."

In a probable caused statement reviewed by the Argus Leader prior to its sealing in November, the victim was Koskan's family member and had been allegedly sexually abused by Koskan since the time she was a child. Koskan also allegedly made references to GPS tracking and video monitoring the victim's activities.

A special agent with the South Dakota Department of Criminal Investigation recommended charges of rape, sexual contact with a child younger than 16 and aggravated incest.

As part of Tuesday's hearing, as part of a new plea agreement, Koskan would plea guilty to the two counts of felony incest, pay a $10,000 fine for each count, court fees and provide restitution for the victim included in the original plea agreement, rejected by Northrup in March.

The new charges alleged Koskan had raped the victim and performed oral sex between April 2 and April 16, 2022 at his home in Wood.

Out of safety and privacy concerns, the Argus Leader does not name victims of sexual assault without their permission.

Brent Kempema, the Assistant South Dakota Attorney General, said the victim had been pressured by Koskan and his family not to report the sexual abuse. She had first tried to report the years of abuse in 2016, but was unable to because of the trauma it caused her.

In May 2022, the victim "summon(ed) the courage to reach out to a friend," whose father was a retired agent with Department of Criminal Investigation to report further abuse.

"From then on, the pressure was on," Kempema said, describing Koskan in an act of retaliation had allegedly reported the car she drove stolen.

She had been pressured to "put the family above herself" and to not cooperate with law enforcement during the investigation, Kempema said. She had realized the people she was trying to protect did not have her best interest at heart.

A Leak at the Bottom of the Sea May Be a Harbinger of Doom

The Cascadia Subduction Zone (CSZ) is a massive fault line stretching from Vancouver Island to Northern California—and it’s the source of the vast majority of earthquakes and tsunamis in the region. In fact, scientists believe that the fault line will likely be the source of the next Big One, an anticipated megathrust earthquake so powerful it’ll wreak death and destruction the likes of which we’ve never seen before from a geological event.

So, it goes without saying that researchers have a special interest in studying the CSZ—and they may have uncovered something that could clue us in on what’s going on with the incredibly powerful ticking time bomb.

Researchers at the University of Washington found a warm liquid seeping out of the ocean floor near the zone roughly 50 miles off the coast of Newport, Oregon. The team suspects that the underwater spring, called Pythia’s Oasis, might be connected to the CSZ—and causing the fault line to take on more stress as it leaks. They published their findings on Jan. 25 in the journal Science Advances.

“Pythias Oasis provides a rare window into processes acting deep in the seafloor, and its chemistry suggests this fluid comes from near the plate boundary,” Deborah Kelley, a professor of oceanography at UW and a co-author of the new paper, said in a statement. “This suggests that the nearby faults regulate fluid pressure and megathrust slip behavior along the central Cascadia Subduction Zone.”

The team discovered the leak after spotting plumes of methane bubbles nearly a mile below the surface of the ocean. After sending an underwater drone to investigate, they discovered that water with a different chemical composition from the surrounding seawater was seeping into the ocean from a hole in the ground “like a firehose,” Evan Soloman, a fellow UW oceanographer and a co-author of the paper, said in a statement. “That’s something that I’ve never seen and to my knowledge has not been observed before.”

Further analysis found that the water was 16 degrees Fahrenheit warmer than the seawater around it. The authors suspect that the fluid’s source is roughly 2 miles below the ocean floor at the CSZ fault line where temperatures sit around 300 to 500 degrees Fahrenheit.

Why is that a big deal? The researchers say that the fluid might be acting as a kind of pressure regulator between the continental plate and the ocean plate. The more fluid that is in the cracks of the faults, the less pressure there is between the two plates as they smash into each other.

So less fluid means there’s more pressure building between the two plates. This can create a lot of stress on the region and a whole lot more potential energy that could unleash itself as a devastating earthquake.

“The megathrust fault zone is like an air hockey table,” Solomon explained. “If the fluid pressure is high, it’s like the air is turned on, meaning there’s less friction and the two plates can slip. If the fluid pressure is lower, the two plates will lock. That’s when stress can build up.”

The authors wrote that they don’t know whether or not Pythia’s Oasis is the “only seep of its kind,” and suggest that there could be similar seeps in that region of the CSZ. As such, seismologists should consider these seeps in future models of the CSZ.

So while there’s no telling when the next Big One is going to happen, it’s at least somewhat comforting to know that we’re still learning all we can about the CSZ to make sure we’re prepared for it when it does come.
