Mitt Romney Is Pierre Delecto: A Brief Guide to Political Pseudonyms

 

Within hours of The Atlantic revealing that Mitt Romney maintains an anonymous Twitter account to keep tabs on the news (and his grandchildren), the account was uncovered. Credit for identifying @qaws9876, or Pierre Delecto, as the Utah senator’s secret Twitter handle goes to Slate’s Ashley Feinberg, the crack investigator who found James Comey’s burner account in 2017.

 

Evidence suggesting the account belongs to Romney was overwhelming, from the people he follows to the tweets he has liked. And on Monday, Romney confirmed it. “C’est moi,” the Republican senator said when asked if he is Pierre Delecto. Then the account was set to private.

 

Romney’s nom de tweet, which is of unclear origin, joins a long list of pseudonyms deployed in politics, especially in recent years. Here are some favorites from the past decade:

Carlos Danger — Disgraced New York congressman Anthony Weiner used this name, which he said references an inside joke between him and one other person, to send illicit pictures to young women.

 

David Dennison — A pseudonym used to refer to Donald Trump in a 2016 NDA with Stormy Daniels, in which the adult-film star agreed not to reveal her affair with the soon-to-be president.

 

Diane Reynolds — Chelsea Clinton’s alias when checking into hotel rooms and the name attached to her email address on the Clinton family server.

 

Elizabeth Carlisle — Former attorney general Loretta Lynch’s email alias.

 

George Fox — When former New York governor Eliot Spitzer set up appointments with high-end escorts, he used this name, which also happened to be that of a friend and campaign donor.

 

John Barron — Trump’s “go-to alias” when he wanted to serve as his own spokesperson but have the quotes attributed to someone else.

 

John Miller — Another fake Trump spokesperson who was actually Trump himself.

 

Lew Alcindor — Former attorney general Eric Holder used basketball legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s birth name on his email while in office.

 

Ron Vara — A fictional expert who appears in White House economic adviser Peter Navarro’s 2011 book Death by China. The name is an anagram of Navarro.

 

Wayne Tracker — The name former secretary of State Rex Tillerson used to send emails about sensitive subjects such as climate change when he was the CEO of Exxon Mobil.

Kiley [Children Are Not For Sale hearing]: In my state of California, for many years, we have tried in the legislature to get the legislature to take this issue more seriously by classifying human trafficking as a serious felony, and unfortunately, every year, the Public Safety Committee has stopped it from passing, and they did that this year as well; a bill to make trafficking of a minor a serious felony. But after a public outcry, they ended up doing something I think unprecedented in recent history, the committee reversed itself and just a couple of days ago, that bill passed the state assembly unanimously, and is now going to the governor's desk, so I think that is a testament to the power of public awareness.

Publix heiress, funder of Jan. 6 rally, gave $150,000 to GOP attorneys general association

A wealthy Trump donor who helped finance the rally in Washington on Jan. 6 also gave $150,000 to the nonprofit arm of the Republican Attorneys General Association, records show, funds that a person familiar with the contribution said were intended in part to promote the rally.

The nonprofit organization paid for a robocall touting a march that afternoon to the U.S. Capitol to “call on Congress to stop the steal.”

 

On Dec. 29, Julie Jenkins Fancelli, daughter of the founder of the Publix grocery store chain, gave the previously undisclosed contribution to RAGA’s nonprofit Rule of Law Defense Fund, or RLDF,

records reviewed by The Washington Post show. On the same day, the records show that Fancelli gave $300,000 to Women for America First, the “Stop the Steal” group that obtained a permit for

the rally featuring former president Donald Trump.

 

Funding for the events in Washington that day is a focus of the House select committee investigating the violent riot at the U.S. Capitol that followed the rally.

The panel is also interested in the role state officials, including attorneys general, played in encouraging people to go to Washington on Jan. 6 and in supporting Trump’s efforts to overturn the election,

according to people familiar with the committee’s work.

 

The leaders of Women for America First have been subpoenaed by the committee, as has Caroline Wren, a Republican fundraiser who was listed on that group’s permit as a “VIP ADVISOR.”

Both of Fancelli’s donations were arranged by Wren, according to the records and the person with knowledge of the contributions, who like some others interviewed for this story spoke on the condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the matter.

 

“We have many questions about coordination and funding, and we are actively seeking records and testimony that will answer those questions,” said committee spokesman Tim Mulvey.

“Many witnesses are already engaging with the committee, and we expect cooperation to help us get the answers we’re seeking.”

 

The documents sought by the subpoenas sent to rally organizers were due Wednesday.

 

Fancelli, who is not involved in Publix business operations, did not respond to multiple requests seeking comment, and it is unclear if she knew about the robocall ahead of time.

In a statement to the Wall Street Journal, which reported in January that Fancelli had given approximately $300,000 to support the rally,

she said: “I am a proud conservative and have real concerns associated with election integrity, yet I would never support any violence, particularly the tragic and horrific events that unfolded on January 6th.”

 

Alex Jones, a far-right talk show host and conspiracy theorist who was involved in the Jan. 6 rally, has said that it cost “close to half a million dollars.”

He has also said a donor he did not identify paid for 80 percent of the rally.

 

In a statement to The Post, Wren’s lawyer said: “Ms. Wren, in her role as an event planner, assisted many others in providing and arranging for a professionally produced and

completely peaceful event at the White House Ellipse with hundreds of thousands of Americans who were in D.C. to lawfully exercise their first amendment rights, a primary pillar of American democracy.

Ms. Wren was not present at the United States Capitol or the Capitol Grounds on January 6th.”

The federal investigation into efforts to overturn the 2020 election appears to be gaining traction, with the Justice Department having brought in a well-regarded new prosecutor to help run the inquiry

and a high-profile witness seeking a deal to provide information.

 

Alex Jones, the host of the conspiracy-driven media outlet Infowars and a key player in the pro-Trump “Stop the Steal” movement, is in discussions with the Justice Department about an agreement to detail

his role in the rally near the White House last Jan. 6 that preceded the attack on the Capitol.

 

Through his lawyer, Mr. Jones said he has given the government a formal letter conveying “his desire to speak to federal prosecutors about Jan. 6.”

 

The lawyer, Norm Pattis, maintained that Mr. Jones had not engaged in any “criminal wrongdoing” that day when — chanting slogans about 1776 — he helped lead a crowd of Trump supporters in a march to the Capitol

as violence was erupting.

 

As a condition of being interviewed by federal investigators, Mr. Jones, who is known for his rants about the “Deep State” and its supposed control over national affairs, has requested immunity from prosecution.

 

“He distrusts the government,” Mr. Pattis said.

 

While convincing federal prosecutors to grant him immunity could be an uphill climb for Mr. Jones, his discussions with the Justice Department suggest that the investigation into the postelection period could be gathering momentum.

 

Two weeks ago, another prominent Stop the Steal organizer, Ali Alexander, a close associate of Mr. Jones, revealed that he had received a subpoena from a federal grand jury that is

seeking information on a broad swath of people — rally planners, members of Congress and others close to former President Donald J. Trump — connected to political events that took place in the run-up to Jan. 6.

Mr. Alexander, who marched with Mr. Jones to the Capitol that day, has said that he intends to comply with the subpoena.

Georgia Governor Declares State Of Emergency, Suspends Fuel Tax

 

Atlanta, GA (Office of the Governor / News Release) – Governor Brian P. Kemp [Tuesday] declared a state of emergency due to the 40-year-high inflation and negative economic conditions felt by hardworking Georgians as a result of policies coming out of Washington, D.C. As part of this declaration, he is temporarily suspending the state’s excise tax on motor and locomotive fuel to provide direct relief to families throughout the state. The executive order will go into effect on Wednesday, September 13 at 12:00 a.m. and will remain in effect until 11:59 p.m. on October 12, 2023. “From runaway federal spending to policies that hamstring domestic energy production, all Bidenomics has done is take more money out of the pockets of the middle class,” said Governor Brian Kemp. “While high prices continue to hit family budgets, hardworking Georgians deserve real relief and that’s why I signed an executive order today to deliver it directly to them at the pump. Working with partners in the General Assembly, we’ll continue to help Georgians weather the economic headwinds caused by this president, his administration, and their allies in Congress.”

 

According to an analysis from Moody’s Analytics from August, Americans are spending $709 more per month than 2 years ago and $202 more per month than last year. Suspension of the excise tax will save Georgians 31.2 cents per gallon of gasoline and 35 cents per gallon of diesel fuel. When the gas tax was suspended from March through December of last year, 2022, Georgians saved roughly $1.7 billion at the pump.

 

“I applaud Governor Kemp’s suspension of motor fuel taxes to keep our people and our economy moving despite Washington’s inaction on rising fuel prices,” said Speaker Jon Burns. “Georgia’s success story is no accident – it is the result of conservative policies enacted to keep Georgia the nation’s best state for business.”

 

Thanks to the hard work and conservative budgeting of Governor Kemp and the General Assembly, the State of Georgia can confidently suspend collection of the state motor fuel tax to help lessen the burden of historically high gas prices. According to AAA, the average cost of a gallon of regular gas in Georgia is currently $3.57, up from $3.24 a year ago.

As House Republicans have settled back into Washington, D.C. this week fresh off a month-long hiatus, all eyes will turn to whether the party in control of the lower chamber can muster any resistance against the current regime running roughshod over the nation and blatantly interfering with the upcoming presidential election.

 

Since Congress embarked upon their month-long recess, the (essentially) presumptive GOP nominee was indicted twice, once by the Department of Justice which House Republicans continue to fund, and another time in a jurisdiction overseen by a Republican Governor with Republican-majorities in both chambers of the state assembly. To add insult to injury, the trial dates for President Trump’s litany of cases have been set conspicuously near the days voters will be heading to the polls for the first time during the 2024 election season, incontrovertible evidence of election interference (if not the regime’s outright mockery of the Democracy they purport to care so deeply about).

 

Even still, President Trump, though he certainly bears the majority of the burden, is not the only one feeling the wrath of the weaponized government. The Biden administration is targeting pro-life activists, traditional Catholic parishes have found themselves on FBI watchlists, and hundreds of people who exercised their right to assembly continue to languish in the DC prison, denied their due process rights. Moreover, for those who have praised the integrity of local Republican-controlled state governments as bulwarks against the excesses of a Democrat-controlled federal or state government, recent malicious prosecutions occurring within the confines of ostensible “red-havens” of Georgia and Texas summarily repudiate that proposition. Eighteen other Republicans – from esteemed lawyers, constitutional scholars, public servants, and some private citizens – are embroiled in criminal charges, unable to look for refuge to the Georgia Governor, who seems to place greater value in the interests shared by those who frequent the same Davos events he attends, rather than those held by the people who elected him. A not dissimilar case is occurring in Texas, where Attorney General Ken Paxton must defend himself in an impeachment trial for, principally, the original sin of defeating a member of the Bush family in his recent election. Make no mistake: supporting Trump is now an indictable offense which establishment Republicans are cheering on.

 

Indeed, the House Republicans are outnumbered – the Trump-aligned members even more so – but they are not powerless. Recall, when the left controlled only the lower chamber of Congress, they tactfully used the same relatively limited power they had to stall, impede upon, and drain resources from the incumbent Trump administration. This month marks four years since then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi initiated the first of two impeachments against the duly elected President Trump, in a move that was wholly manufactured and void ab initio (the GOP-controlled Senate was not going to convict the President). However, one could argue that the spectacle was a success insofar as the process then, as it remains today, was the punishment.

Now that roles are reversed, Republicans have been lethargic at best, and complicit at worst: they granted Biden a victory on the debt ceiling agreement, enabled the endless funding of the Ukraine war while families in Maui continue to suffer, have left unchecked the worst border invasion in our country’s history, and have permitted – if not facilitated – the politicized prosecutions of Biden’s to-be opponent. An opposition party worth its salt would not lament its relative lack of power, but instead use its significant authority to do everything feasible to mount some sort of strategic opposition.

 

For what it’s worth, the House majority campaigned on stopping the “weaponization of government,” unmasking the Bidens’ corruption, issuing subpoenas to FBI officials, and stopping the “blank checks” to Ukraine. This time, though, voters were told this wasn’t bluster: to prove it, the power-sharing agreement for which twenty members valiantly fought in January – including but not limited to a single-member motion to vacate the speaker – were supposed to serve as leverage to ensure the leadership would keep their word. The new House majority promised to change the game in Washington, and for good reason too: this current House has been served on a silver platter issues to tackle on behalf of the American people. Still, nine months in and the country has precipitously worsened since Speaker McCarthy was elected on the fifteenth ballot. The hour is late. It is past time they begin wielding the power they have. This can be done in multiple ways.

 

Some have floated the potential of a Church-style committee to confront the egregious actions of this administration – and the regime more broadly. The House could investigate the circumstances which “arguably involve the most massive attack on free speech in United States history,” pertaining to the federal government’s collusion with big tech. As once promised, January 6th tapes should be released to the public. McCarthy once demanded the January 6th Committee preserve all records, which did not happen. What will his recourse be? McCarthy also promised that the debt-ceiling agreement would put Republicans in a prime spot with the appropriations negotiations. Seal the border, release the January 6th tapes, withhold funding – if a government shutdown must happen, so be it. All Republicans should vocally join the campaign pressuring Brian Kemp to grant Georgia State Senator Colton Moore’s calls for an emergency session to investigate and defund Fani Willis (and ultimately remove the prosecutor) and continue to delegitimize each of the indictments levied against the party leader. It goes without saying, but Republicans in the House must promptly begin impeachments of Biden, Garland, and Mayorkas. Not only are the proceedings necessary, but they also drain the administration of resources otherwise used for their agenda in the year leading up to reelection.

 

The failure of the Republican party to prevail in election cycles since 2016 is because of the party establishment’s lethargy – a party which has been granted power by voters time and again, yet continue to squander it at every turn. Trump authored the winning playbook for Republicans in the twenty-first century when he resuscitated the party from life support in 2016. Without Trump, prospect of a Republican nationwide electoral victory would be all but lost, the Blue Wall insurmountable. Even still, it was Republicans who obstructed the Trump administration – It was at the hand of an establishment Republican that the years-long quest of repealing and replacing Obamacare was destroyed. Republicans stood in the way of President Trump receiving the requested funding for a border wall, and Republicans continue today to stand by – incapable of effectively wielding their power – in the face of blatant weaponization of the justice system.

 

Trump won the election the first time without the party’s institutional support. If necessary, he may have to do it again. But the “party” as it exists faces a time for choosing: either adopt his lead to reflect the will of the people, or remain idle as the destruction of this country continues untrammeled.

The state law which prohibits the marketing and advertising of firearms that "reasonably appear to be attractive to minors" was struck down by a three-judge panel, in which Judge Kenneth Lee wrote for the majority: "While California has a substantial interest in reducing gun violence and unlawful use of firearms by minors, its law does not 'directly' and 'materially' further either goal."

 

"California cannot straitjacket the First Amendment by, on the one hand, allowing minors to possess and use firearms and then, on the other hand, banning truthful advertisements about that lawful use of firearms. There is no evidence in the record that a minor in California has ever unlawfully bought a gun, let alone because of an ad. Nor has the state produced any evidence that truthful ads about lawful uses of guns—like an ad about hunting rifles in Junior Sports Magazines’ Junior Shooters—encourage illegal or violent gun use among minors," Judge Lee said, according to court documents.

 

"Simply put, California cannot lean on gossamers of speculation to weave an evidence-free narrative that its law curbing the First Amendment "significantly" decreases unlawful gun use among minors. The First Amendment demands more than good intentions and wishful thinking to warrant the government’s muzzling of speech," he continued.

 

Adding, "California's law is also more extensive than necessary, as it sweeps in truthful ads about lawful use of firearms for adults and minors alike. For instance, an advertisement directed at adults featuring a camouflage skin on a firearm might be illegal because minors may be attracted to it."

 

In summation, Lee said that California’s limits on advertising likely impose "an

House China Committee Demands California City Cough Up Docs About Illegal Chinese-Owned Biolab

A House committee recently demanded a California city hand over documents related to the discovery of an illegal China-linked biolab housing infectious agents, according to a committee spokesperson.

 

The House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) issued a subpoena to the City of Reedley, California, last week, requesting documents and records related to the city’s investigation into the “unlicensed” laboratory operated by Prestige Biotech Inc. (PBI), the successor of defunct Universal Meditech Inc. (UMI), a committee spokesperson told the Daily Caller News Foundation, confirming Politico’s report. In mid-June, officials from Fresno County began removing medical waste from the Reedley laboratory after inspectors discovered at least 20 potentially infectious agents, such as Malaria and Dengue virus, on the property, according to Fresno County court records.

 

“The review of the evidence thus far has identified troubling gaps in safeguards that allowed the clandestine facility to operate with impunity, as well as serious deficiencies in the federal government’s response,” a person close to the committee said after Reedley handed over documents, photographs and video, according to Politico.

 

PBI and UMI have operated an “unlicensed and unregulated” lab in Reedley since October 2022, court documents show.

 

Beginning in December 2022, officials attempted to make contact with the lab workers, but were unsuccessful until March 2023, when an official observed a garden hose illegally attached to the building as well as other code violations and ordered for the site to be inspected, according to court records.

 

Officials then began a series of on-site inspections and conducted an abatement process between April and June, during which they discovered “unsafe and unsanitary conditions” as well as mice genetically engineered to catch and carry COVID-19, court records state.

 

Officials also discovered improperly stored blood, bodily fluids, human and animal tissue as well as at least 20 infectious agents including E. coli, tuberculosis, streptococcus, hepatitis, HIV and Rubella, according to court records.

 

The DCNF subsequently reported that certain PBI and UMI executives appear to share the same names and addresses with one of the lab’s pharmaceutical suppliers located at a CCP-backed industrial park in Qingdao, China.

 

The Qingdao High-Tech Industrial Park, where the lab’s pharmaceutical suppliers are located, is run by Li Tianchuan, a CCP member, according to the Chinese government.

 

The DCNF found business filings on Chinese website Qixin.com showing that UMI’s CEO and PBI’s managing member, Wang Zhaoyan, has the same name as the executive director of Ai De Biopharmaceutical in Qingdao. Likewise, PBI’s president, Yao Xiuqin, shares the same name with Ai De Biopharmaceutical’s supervisor, filings on Qixin.com reveal.

 

Furthermore, the DCNF reported that the address for PBI’s president Yao Xiuqin that PBI’s representative, David He, gave to investigators closely resembles the address for Ai De Diagnostic Co. Ltd in Qingdao.

 

Court documents reveal that Joe Prado, Fresno County Public Health Department assistant director, wrote to He in June 2023, claiming that the addresses He had provided for the lab’s “authorized agents” were “either empty offices or addresses in China that could not be verified.”

 

The DCNF also identified a series of shipments that Ai De Biopharmaceutical, Ai De Diagnostic and Qingdao Guangdi Packaging Material Co. Ltd. — which also shares the same Qingdao address — sent to UMI and PBI between 2016 and 2023.

 

Reedley did not respond immediately to the DCNF’s request for comment.

I've met and talked to Kevin Kiley. He is kind of Gavin-slick (more acting than genuine) but I attribute that mostly to him being from the LA area where everyone is plastic to a certain extent. So considering where he is from and what political environment he has had to fight, I am a pleased with his efforts. I do believe he is a conservative. Kemp suspends Georgia gas tax, declares state of emergency over inflation

Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp has declared a state of emergency and temporarily suspended the state's tax on gasoline in an effort to reduce the impact of inflation.

 

In a press release Tuesday, Kemp claimed that his actions were in response to policies coming at the federal level, saying that President Joe Biden has caused Georgians to feel the brunt of negative economic conditions,

 

"While high prices continue to hit family budgets, hardworking Georgians deserve real relief and that's why I signed an executive order today to deliver it directly to them at the pump," Kemp said.

 

The executive order will go into effect Wednesday and continue through Oct. 12.

 

Officials estimate the suspension of the tax will save Georgians around 31 cents per gallon of gasoline and 35 cents per gallon of diesel fuel. But Kendra Cray says she still feels the pain at the pump. "It’s about $45 to fill up my car," Cray said. "It hurts a lot."

 

"I applaud Gov. Kemp’s suspension of motor fuel taxes to keep our people and our economy moving despite Washington’s inaction on rising fuel prices," said Georgia Speaker of the House Jon Burns.

 

Danny Kanso, senior fiscal analyst and director of legislative strategy at the Georgia Budget and Policy Institute, estimates suspending the gas tax could save money for Georgia drivers but cost the state as much as $180 million a month.

 

"A good chunk of that will go to consumer," said Kanso "It almost certainly will reduce state tax collections by about that amount per month."

 

The state can absorb the hit from the lost revenue because of a budget surplus. "Right now the state has about $16-billion cash on hand," Kanso said.

 

The gas tax is reserved exclusively for infrastructure like roads and transportation. The state can backfill lost revenue from gas taxes with money from the surplus. But Kanso says that could come at a cost to other programs. "And that means less money available for things like education, healthcare, core functions of government that make up most of what the state does," Kanso said. "It could go to a long-term investment like a school bus, or it could go to a short-term suspension of the gas tax."

 

Kemp previously suspended the state's gas tax in March 2022 and extended the suspension for 10 months.

 

Georgia’s gasoline price normally includes a federal tax of 18.4 cents per gallon and a state tax of 29.1 cents per gallon. A number of counties and the city of Atlanta also charge taxes. Federal taxes on diesel fuel are 24.4 cents per gallon, while Georgia’s tax on diesel is 32.6 cents per gallon.

 

As of Tuesday, AAA reports that the average price for a gallon of gas in Georgia is $3.57 - six more cents than Monday, around 6 cents less than the same time in August, and around 33 more cents than in 2022.

 

Georgia's fuel price remains lower than the national average of $3.83 for a gallon of regular unleaded gas.

EU states tell Zelensky they won’t hand over draft dodgers

Four countries so far have refused to round up male refugees from Ukraine

 

The Czech Republic announced on Wednesday that it would not send military-age men who came as refugees back to Ukraine to be conscripted.Germany, Austria and Hungary have already made similar declarations.

 

European conventions exclude extradition for things such as desertion or draft evasion, Justice Ministry spokesman Vladimir Repka told the outlet iDnes. However, he added that if Ukraine files individual extradition requests citing a specific criminal act they may have committed, Prague may give them consideration.

 

Hungary has ruled out any extraditions outright.

 

“We are not investigating any Ukrainian refugees to determine if they have been called up for military service.Hungary will not extradite them to Ukraine,” Deputy Prime Minister Zsolt Semjén told the outlet ATV on Wednesday. “All refugees from Ukraine are safe in Hungary.”

 

German officials who spoke to Deutsche Welle earlier this week said that Berlin did not intend to send draft-eligible refugees back, since desertion and draft evasion are not crimes under German law. There are over 123,000 Ukrainian men of military age who are in Germany as refugees, according to official estimates.

 

Vienna was the first to refuse extradition of military-age men. There are about 14,000 potential draftees among the 101,000 Ukrainian refugees in Austria.

 

“That would be a massive encroachment on our statehood, we would never do that,” a spokesman for the Interior Ministry told the outlet Exxpress on September 7.

 

On the other hand,Poland has already begun sending some Ukrainian men back, according to Hungarian media reports.

 

A senior lawmaker from President Vladimir Zelensky’s ruling party said in late August that Ukraine might seek extradition of draft-dodgers from the EU. The government in Kiev recently announced another round of mobilization in order to make up battlefield losses, which Russian President Vladimir Putin estimated at over 70,000 in the past three months of heavy fighting.

 

Zelensky fired all draft commissioners last month and ordered a review of all medical exemptions from military service, citing widespread corruption. New rules were adopted allowing for the conscription of people with mental disorders, chronic diseases, tuberculosis and HIV.

US sanctions prevented Ukrainian use of Starlink –Musk

The SpaceX CEO said his company was not allowed to provide coverage in the area due to US sanctions against Russia

 

SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has claimed that his company refused to enable Starlink coverage over Crimea so as not to run afoul of US-imposed regulations. The billionaire came under fire last week after CNN reported that Musk’s refusal to turn on Starlink signal over the Russian peninsula had thwarted a Ukrainian drone attack against the Russian Black Sea Fleet last year.

 

Appearing via video link at the All-In Summit 2023 tech conference in Los Angeles on Tuesday, Musk was asked why he had made that decision. The SpaceX CEO started off by stressing that his company has “provided Starlink connectivity to Ukraine” since the start of the military conflict with Russia in February 2022. He added that top Ukrainian officials have acknowledged on multiple occasions that the service has played a crucial role in fending off Moscow’s offensive.

 

Moving on to the question about Crimea, Musk explained that “at the time this happened, the region around Crimea was actually turned off.”

 

“Now, the reason it was turned off was actually because… the United States has sanctions against Russia… and that includes Crimea,”he continued.

 

According to the billionaire, “we are not actually allowed to turn on connectivity to… the country without explicit [US] government approval.”

 

Musk pointed out that even though he is not a supporter of President Joe Biden,“if I [had] received a presidential directive to turn it on, I would have done so,” adding that “no such request came through.”

 

The entrepreneur claimed that the planned Ukrainian attack on the Russian fleet in Sevastopol would have been similar in impact to the Japanese attack on the US fleet at Pearl Harbor during World War Two, potentially leading to a major escalation.

 

“So, [the Ukrainians] really asked us to really proactively take part in a major act of war,”Musk concluded.

 

On Monday, Senator Elizabeth Warren called on Congress to investigate Musk over the episode, while a Ukrainian presidential aide accused the SpaceX CEO of “committing evil.”

President Trump Files Motion to Recuse DC Judge Chutkan from Case – However, DC Expected This

“Although Judge Chutkan may genuinely intend to give President Trump a fair trial—and may believe that she can do so—her public statements unavoidably taint these proceedings, regardless of outcome,” Trump’s lawyers wrote. “The public will reasonably and understandably question whether Judge Chutkan arrived at all of her decisions in this matter impartially, or in fulfillment of her prior negative statements regarding President Trump.”

 

The legal team with President Trump is asking Chutkan to direct the court clerk to randomly assign this case to another district judge. However, this is where the previous visible support for Chutkan by the entire district of judges comes into play. Beyond the prejudicial statements previously delivered by Judge Chutkan, which are quite extraordinary, it must be remembered the Chutkan came from Boies Schiller law firm.

 

While she worked for Boies Schiller, her firm represented Glenn Simpson and Fusion GPS against congress. {Go Deep} Additionally, Boies Schiller was representing Hunter Biden in his legal defense. Chutkan is enmeshed in the original Russiagate storyline and the later developing Hunter Biden storyline, in addition to her activist work against the J6 defendants.

 

Team Trump is asking Chutkan to consider the recusal request on an expedited basis and not rule on any other pending motions until this issue is determined.

 

According to the Wall Street Journal:

 

Chutkan issued a brief order that gave the Justice Department three days to respond to Trump’s motion. Once the DOJ files that brief, Trump’s lawyers have three days to respond if they wish to do so.

 

“All other deadlines set by the court remain in effect,” the judge wrote in the one-paragraph order. “Defense counsel is reminded of the requirement to confer with opposing counsel before filing any motion and to indicate whether the motion is opposed.”

 

[…] An Obama appointee confirmed in 2014, Chutkan was randomly assigned to preside over Trump’s prosecution following his indictment on charges he engaged in a criminal scheme to remain in power following his defeat in the 2020 election. In one of her first moves overseeing the case, Chutkan scheduled Trump’s trial for March 2024, rejecting a request from his legal team to push off the proceeding until April 2026.

 

She came to the case with a record of handing down lengthy sentences on Trump supporters who stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. Trump isn’t charged with inciting the violence that day.

 

In their court filing Monday, Trump’s lawyers highlighted an October sentencing in which Chutkan said the Capitol attack was “nothing less than an attempt to violently overthrow the government, the legally, lawfully, peacefully elected government, by individuals who were mad that their guy lost.”

 

“I see the videotapes. I see the footage of the flags and the signs that people were carrying and the hats they were wearing and the garb. And the people who mobbed that Capitol were there in fealty, in loyalty, to one man—not to the Constitution, of which most of the people who come before me seem woefully ignorant; not to the ideals of this country; and not to the principles of democracy,” she added. “It’s a blind loyalty to one person who, by the way, remains free to this day.”

 

Trump’s lawyers said the “inescapable” meaning of her statement was that “Trump is free, but should not be.” The former president’s defense team said Chutkan had previously blamed Trump for the Capitol attack during a sentencing in December 2021. (link)
