Gender Queer includes countless images of male-on-male sexual encounters, accompanied by words that one would expect to find inside adult porn shops or gay sex clubs. Even so, this book was purchased and pushed by school officials around the country, despite it clearly violating county guidelines.

The most-watched early presidential contest in America has been a hot mess for more than a decade.

My first Iowa caucus night was in 2012. The Republican Party of Iowa declared Mitt Romney the winner by a mere eight votes over Rick Santorum, giving Romney a boost of momentum that eventually carried him to the nomination.

By the next morning, Santorum’s underdog campaign was hearing from county chairmen about miscounts. The state party ultimately retracted its call — Santorum had actually won by 34 votes — but not for more than two weeks.

“I pulled off a miracle, but they said Romney was the winner,” Santorum said when I called him this week. “It wasn’t, ‘Santorum came from nowhere.’ It was ‘Romney won, the race is over.’ What do you think the result would have been if they said I had won?”

The 2012 debacle was the first of three consecutive botched Iowa caucus nights. On Monday, the state’s Republican caucuses will once again be run by party volunteers at 1,657 caucus sites.

Local officials have repeatedly failed to meet the basic accounting standards Americans are accustomed to on election nights. And the kickoff contest for a 2024 election cycle that both major parties agree will decide the fate of American democracy is being hosted by a state with a history of fumbling the basic task of Democracy 101: accurately counting the votes.

Unlike primary and general elections operated on a regular basis by professionals, the Iowa way is to have regular people carry out the count. And it has not gone well.

In 2016, the race between Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton was so close both said they won, and each had a legitimate case. The Sanders campaign said he had earned the most votes, while Clinton won the most delegates. The Iowa Democratic Party’s reporting process had no way to verify how many people had voted for each candidate.

Then came 2020 and the mother of all Iowa meltdowns. The caucus reporting mechanism failed, phones were overloaded at the Iowa Democratic headquarters and at the end of the night and into the next day, nobody knew who had won.

It took until the end of the week for it to become clear that Pete Buttigieg had won the most Iowa delegates. Instead of news cycles about his victory, the stories were about the logistical disaster.

His supporters are devoted to him. They’re willing to wait hours for him in all kinds of bad weather. He was three and a half hours late on Saturday.

He had plane issues. People waited. The gym was still packed and there were still people in the overflow room. That’s the kind of devotion he’s inspiring in people. They’re there to see him. They’ll drive across the state to see him. There’s just no other candidate who has that devotion.

CDC Ordered To Disclose Crucial Information From COVID-19 Vaccine Surveillance System

The top U.S. public health agency must disclose information provided by people who experienced problems following COVID-19 vaccination, a federal court has ruled.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is being ordered to produce 7.8 million free-text entries from V-safe, one of its vaccine surveillance systems.

Data from the system released under court order in 2022 showed that 25 percent of V-safe participants missed school, work, or other normal activities due to post-vaccination issues, and nearly 8 percent of participants reported seeking medical attention, such as hospitalization after receiving a shot. That data, from boxes checked by users, came through an order in a case that started as a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request.

But the CDC resisted releasing the free-text entries, arguing that many of them include information that should remain private.

“CDC determined that many of these responses contain personally identifiable information, the disclosure of which would publicly link participants to highly sensitive health information,” government lawyers representing the agency said in one brief. “And because it would take tens of thousands of workhours to manually review and redact millions of free-text responses, CDC determined that segregating the non-exempt information within these responses would be unreasonably burdensome and was therefore beyond its FOIA obligations.”

The CDC said it would take one worker 59 years to complete the work if it were ordered.

The government’s arguments were rejected by U.S. District Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk, an appointee of former President Donald Trump, in response to a fresh lawsuit.

“While the burden to produce the requested free-text responses may be heavy, this court does not find that it is unreasonable,” he said in the new ruling.

The CDC can go through the records and redact personally identifiable information as allowed by FOIA but must do the work and produce the records with the redactions, he added later. Evidence produced in the case indicates that about 93 percent of the records will require no redactions.

The materials will be important for people who experienced problems following vaccination, the judge said.

“Production of the free-text data will permit independent researchers to put the government agencies to their proof by considering all of the available data,” he said. He noted that CDC studies on v-safe data only covered data from the first week or two after vaccination but that the surveys collected data for up to one year after receipt of a shot.

Russian Claim: Austin Dead In Ukraine

Criminal Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin was allegedly killed in Kyiv on January 3 when Russian cruise missiles peltered a command bunker where Austin and Lieutenant General Valerii Zaluzhnyi, commander in chief of the Ukrainian Army, met secretly to discuss mounting an asymmetrical offensive to “bring Vladimir Putin to his knees,” claims a Russian FSB source known for providing invaluable intelligence and the truth behind Putin’s Special Military Operation in Ukraine.

FSB agent Andrei Zakharov’s tale, however, directly contradicts an administration narrative about Austin clandestinely hospitalizing himself for an unknown ailment at Walter Reed Hospital. Friday evening, a frenzied media went haywire after Politico ran an article about Austin admitting himself to the hospital and staying there an entire week without notifying his criminal in chief, pResident Joseph R. Biden. The report quickly spiraled into undreamt of drama that engulfed all levels of government, with several lawmakers calling for Austin to resign for poor judgment and lack of transparency at once. Austin’s unannounced absence has embarrassed a criminal regime struggling to stay afloat.

Zakharov refutes the hospital story because, he insists, Austin and a bevy of Ukrainian brass were tucked away in what they thought was a secure military command center 20 feet beneath the streets of Pecheskry District in central Kyiv.

Russian intelligence, he added, had marginal luck tracking Austin’s trips into and out of Ukraine since early 2023. Austin had spent so much time in Kyiv he ought to have applied for Ukrainian citizenship, Zakharov joked, adding that the secretive and self-admittedly reclusive Austin had traveled to Ukraine from Poland eight times in 2023.

In early November, a Spetznas “hunter-killer” team entered Kyiv undetected after learning that Austin had arrived in Ukraine to personally deliver fantastic news to Zelenskyy: the U.S. and U.K. had voted to give him even more free money and arms. The Spetznas had eyes on Austin and Zelenskyy and came close to killing them, but the team aborted the mission at the last moment due to unforeseen and unspecified complications.

Vladimir Putin, Zakharov said, had bestowed upon Austin the title of “war criminal.”

Putin, he added, delighted in Austin’s demise.

“We knew Austin was in Ukraine, and we discovered their rendezvous point. We also know the pig Zaluzhnyi, and he is killer of the women and the children, was to meet his lieutenants to learn them about new drone warfare. They were our intended targets. Austin was a bonus.”

Twenty cruise missiles, he said, destroyed surface buildings and collapsed a labyrinth of interconnecting chambers underground. A battle damage assessment revealed the strike had razed the structures and cratered what lay beneath. Only rubble remained.

“Nothing on this earth could survive what we sent. Yes, he is dead. He must be dead,” Zakharov said.

Trump Jr. suggests ‘only way’ to end Ukraine conflict

US funding for Kiev has caused hundreds of thousands of deaths and enriched Ukrainian oligarchs, the ex-president’s son claimed

The fighting between Russia and Ukraine has to end in talks, and in order to persuade President Vladimir Zelensky’s government to negotiate, Washington must stop sending money to Kiev, the eldest son of former US President Donald Trump has said.

Donald Trump Jr. was asked about the conflict during his appearance on the Timcast IRL podcast on YouTube on Friday.

The 46-year-old said: “Cut off the money. It’s the only way you get them [Ukraine] to the table, right?”

The result of the $111 billion in military and economic assistance that Washington has provided to Kiev since February 2022 has been to “kill hundreds of thousands of innocent men, half of whom were probably indifferent to some of the politics 'cos they were ethnically Russian anyway,” he argued.

“We’re literally creating the oligarch class of billionaires in Ukraine with whatever is being siphoned off… while they send young men to die as cannon fodder on the frontlines because they couldn’t care less,” Trump Jr. said.

Despite all the Western aid, the Ukrainians “were never winning, they were probably never going to win” against Russia, he added.

If his father Donald Trump returns to the White House after the election in November, he will simply tell the government in Kiev: “Hey, you got like one more month of this and if you're not at the table it's done,” the ex-president’s son said.

“Guess what, Zelensky wouldn't have a chance if we shut it down, so he’d come to the table and they [Moscow and Kiev] would come up with something,” Trump Jr. predicted.

On Friday, White House national security spokesman John Kirby acknowledged that the assistance that the US has been providing to Ukraine “has now ground to a halt.”

The announcement came as the Biden administration’s attempts to push through a $106 billion ‘national security package,’ which includes $60 billion for Kiev, continues to face staunch resistance from hardline Republican lawmakers, who have demanded stricter controls on the southern US border in exchange for approving the bill.

Earlier this week, Zelensky again urged the US politicians to unblock the aid, claiming he is now being forced to choose between paying pensions to 11 million people or buying weapons for troops on the frontline. “We simply must pay” the pensioners “because the elderly people will die” otherwise, he said.

Starving 2-year-old girl found by maintenance workers bound in duct tape: Report

Two maintenance workers in Houston called the authorities after they discovered a nonverbal two-year-old girl tied up with duct tape while fixing a dishwasher, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

The criminal complaint suggested that the two-year-old girl had suffered psychological abuse, physical abuse, and neglect. She reportedly had a brain bleed caused by trauma to the head. The nonverbal toddler was also malnourished and had an injured kidney.

Physicians involved with the care of the girl said she may not have made it through the night had she not been discovered by the workers, according to court documents.

Fox News Digital reported that the maintenance workers told the authorities that they showed up at an apartment on November 28 to fix a dishwasher. But while repairing the machine, they heard a child crying and soon discovered the girl lying on the living room floor "with her legs duct taped."

The workers told the authorities the girl was covered up with a blanket, and when they removed it, they discovered that her legs were tied together. They took photos and a video, departed the apartment, and alerted the police to the situation, per the report.

The three people who lived at the apartment — Toniesha Deshae Perkins, the girl's cousin; Kenry Joseph Flukers, Perkin's boyfriend; and Mya Jhari Breaux-McGruder, the child's teenage aunt — were arrested and charged with injury to a child and unlawful restraint of a person under the age of 17.

Perkins' defense attorney said that she planned to plead not guilty. The attorney for Flukers did not respond to Fox News Digital for comment on the case. Breaux-McGruder's attorney, Sally L. Ring, said that her 17-year-old client was not appropriately charged.

Flukers said he had never seen the little girl with duct tape around her ankles, adding that he had only seen her hands duct-taped. He went on to say that the girl would not eat when given food but would often sneak food. He added that her hands were tied to prevent her from doing so.

Five other children apparently live in the apartment and appear to be in good health. When the authorities presented the photo of the two-year-old girl, Perkins blamed it on her children, saying that they often tie each other up.

Two children were questioned by the authorities, a pair of six-year-old twins. They both said Perkins and Flukers tie the little girl up because she "wastes" food. One of the twins noted that the girl gets "popped" if she tries to remove the duct tape, and Flukers allegedly used his belt to "whoop" the girl, according to Fox News Digital.

One of the twins said Perkins told them to tell anyone who asked about the little girl to say they wrap each other up.

ANOTHER STRIKE TARGETS AL-HUDAYDAH IN YEMEN

Another strike hit the western Yemen province of al-Hudaydah, which is controlled by the Houthis (Ansar Allah), late on January 14, less than 24 hours after an attack that was blamed on the United States and the United Kingdom.

The Sanaa-based Saba News Agency, which is run by the Houthi-led government, said that the strike targeted Jida mount in the district of Alluhayah on the coast of the Red Sea. No casualties were reported by the news agency.

Several drones of the U.S. military were reportedly spotted over different parts of al-Hudayah at the time of the strike.

The U.S. and UK, with the support of Australia, Bahrain, Canada and the Netherlands, carried out a series of strikes against dozens of Houthis positions in al-Hudaydah and several other parts of Yemen, including the capital, early on January 12.

Seven fighters of the Houthis were killed in the strikes, which Washington said were carried to ensure the security of shipping in the Red Sea.

The Houthis, who are considered a part of the Iran-led Axis of Resistance, attacked several Israel-affiliated ships in Waters near Yemen in recent weeks as a response to the Israeli war on the Palestinian Gaza Strip.

Later on January 12, the U.S. said that it carried out a “follow-on action” on its own, targeting a radar site of the Houthis in an air base near Sanaa.

More strikes hit a military position of the Houthis near al-Hudaydah city late on January 13. A source close to the group told the Sputnik news agency that the strikes were carried out by the U.S. and the UK. However, the Pentagon later denied any involvement. This led to speculations that Israel was behind the strikes. The Houthis attacked the southernmost Israeli city of Eilat more than once in recent weeks. Israel said that it will respond.

Despite inflicting some losses, the recent strikes didn’t deter the Houthis who vowed to respond and said that they will continue to attack Israel-affiliated ships in nearby waters.

It also notes that as a part of its commitment to "equity and inclusion," if a student self-identifies as African, Black, Afro-Caribbean, First Nations, Inuit, or Métis on the application form, they "will be accepted into the program without participating in the random selection process." It lists the district's "Black Excellence Guidance counselor" as the point of contact for more information on the RLCP's program.

In the frequently asked questions section on the program, the Peel School District says that the self-identification is in response to a 2020 review by the Ministry of Education in which they directed the school to "Develop and implement a comprehensive Annual Equity Accountability Report Card."

In directive 14 of the review, the school board was forced to establish a four-year strategy to "address and eliminate statistically significant disproportionalities in enrolment, achievement and outcomes of Black students, other racialized students and Indigenous students in applied academic, locally developed, Special Education, and Regional Choice pathways and programs."
