This is my favorite thing about Vivek. The guy actively does all of the legwork for Trump, and ultimately only seems to serve as an arrow pointing back toward Trump. He also has several bright and well reasoned ideas for decompartmentalizing the government and I sincerely think (if he is on the level) he is the future of Trump's MAGA agenda (once Trump's next term ends). Special counsel Jack Smith wasn’t lawfully appointed, can’t prosecute Trump, legal scholars say

 

President Reagan’s attorney general and two law professors who clerked for Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia are challenging special counsel Jack Smith’s authority to prosecute former President Donald Trump, saying a private citizen can’t bring criminal charge.

 

Former Attorney General Edwin Meese and law professors Steven Calabresi and Gary Lawson said in a 25-page filing to the Supreme Court that Attorney General Merrick Garland had no constitutional or statuary authority to appoint Mr. Smith to conduct the high-level criminal investigation of Mr. Trump because he was a private citizen and not confirmed by the Senate.

 

Mr. Smith worked as a U.S. attorney but was living in the Netherlands at the time of his appointment in November 2022, according to reports.

 

The filing says a lawfully appointed special counsel would have had to be selected by the president, confirmed by the Senate and serve in the Justice Department. Lawful special counsel appointments in the past included Patrick Fitzgerald, a U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Illinois, Rod Rosenstein, John Huber and John Durham.

 

“What federal statutes and the Constitution do not allow, however, is for the Attorney General to appoint a private citizen, who has never been confirmed by the Senate, as a substitute United States Attorney under the title ‘Special Counsel.’ That is what happened on November 18, 2022. That appointment was unlawful, as are all the legal actions that have flowed from it,” they wrote.

 

The legal filing was presented to the justices last month as the Supreme Court considered whether to fast-track Mr. Smith’s case and whether Mr. Trump has presidential immunity from criminal prosecution, as the former president’s legal team has argued. Mr. Smith is prosecuting Mr. Trump on felony charges related to his efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election and a case involving the alleged mishandling of classified documents after Mr. Trump left office.

 

The justices declined to expedite the legal battle. The U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia heard oral arguments on Tuesday, and the question of Mr. Smith’s legal authority to bring charges against Mr. Trump was briefly discussed.

The 287(g) program: There’s Proof Biden’s Border Crisis Was Intentional… And It’s Being Covered Up

 

As soon as it became clear that Joe Biden was going to be inaugurated as president, illegal immigrants started flooding our nation’s southern border.

 

During Donald Trump’s time in office, the number of illegal border crossings dropped dramatically—an undeniable result of Trump’s zero-tolerance policy for illegal immigrants. The border wall also worked well in stopping people from crossing illegally. But when Biden became president, things changed. On his first day in office, he signed an executive order halting border wall construction. As anyone could have predicted, illegal immigration skyrocketed after Biden took office. Within months of Biden taking office, the number of illegal border crossings shot up to six times more than what the Obama administration deemed to be crisis level, and it’s only gotten worse.

 

The White House has repeatedly sought to blame Republicans for the crisis that they don’t official recognize as a crisis, but confidential documents obtained by the Immigration Reform Law Institute (IRLI) have pulled the curtain back on the border crisis, revealing that the historic influx of illegal immigrants is entirely by design.

 

According to a lawsuit by IRLI against the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the agency ceased the 287(g) program under Joe Biden. The 287(g) program enables the removal of illegal migrants involved in serious criminal activities such as child rape, attempted murder, assault, carjacking, and other criminal offenses. The program gives local law enforcement the ability to work with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to capture illegal immigrants who have committed crimes and bring them to federal custody for arrest and deportation.

 

Sure sounds like a sound program, doesn’t it? To most people, yes. But to the Biden administration, not so much. The program was canceled in January 2021, soon after Joe Biden took office. The agency never provided any explanation for the decision.

 

“It is ironic that the Biden administration insists it is ‘the most transparent in history’ when, in reality, it has repeatedly attempted to change immigration laws without congressional authorization and then tried to hide the evidence of its misdeeds from the American public,” IRLI Director of Investigations Matt O’Brien explained.

Flash forward to September 2023, the IRLI filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to ICE, requesting to obtain internal documents regarding the agency’s suspension of the 287(g) program. However, the government did not comply with a rule that they must reply within 20 days. ICE authorities have yet to respond.

Twenty-three agreements between local law enforcement and ICE were set to go into effect before Biden suspended the program. However, they were canceled after the president took office. Currently, ICE has 287(g) relationships with nearly 140 law enforcement organizations nationwide.

In a dragon year, people are said to be able to harness the creature’s intelligence, leadership and abilities to pursue their dreams with creativity, passion, courage and confidence.

 

“The overall energy of a dragon year is vital and competitive, with people feeling a strong urge to gain respect and achievement,” says Hong Kong-based Chinese and Western astrologer Jupiter Lai.

Far-left protesters descend on Davos as global leaders meet for World Economic Forum

As the World Economic Forum annual meeting kicks off in Davos, Switzerland, a large group of far-left protesters began their trek to the alpine resort village to voice grievances ranging from anti-Israel complaints to demands for climate justice.

 

The protesters, who belong to various movements such as Strike WEF, Young Socialists Switzerland and Group for a Switzerland without an army, are expected to join a demonstration in central Davos on Sunday afternoon.

 

Strike WEF has circumvented a ban on demonstrations on the main road to Davos and embarked on a hike from the nearby town of Klosters using backroads.

 

The group says it is protesting against the “global elite” who attend the WEF and their role in perpetuating inequality, fascism and ecological destruction.

 

They also express solidarity with various causes such as the Israel-Hamas war, LGBTQ rights and Antifa.

 

Strike WEF posted photos of the march on Instagram. Protesters headed for Davos carried signs reading “fuck capitalism” and “there is no justice in capitalism.”

 

Another video clip showed protesters chanting “free, free Palestine” while holding a banner that reads “no climate justice on occupied land.”

 

On social media, the group posted photos showing them carrying Pride and Palestinian flags.

 

The WEF, which brings together political, business and civil society leaders from around the world, is expected to see hundreds of delegates speak under the theme of “Rebuilding Trust.”

 

True North will provide on-the-ground exclusive coverage for the entire duration of the World Economic Forum.

 

The Swiss authorities have deployed a heavy security presence in and around Davos, with up to 5,000 military personnel authorized by parliament to assist the local police. They have also set up checkpoints and barricades to prevent unauthorized access to the conference venue.

 

Among the high-profile attendees of this year’s WEF are Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, French President Emmanuel Macron.
