Tucker Carlson reveals what ‘radicalized’ him and talks about the Putin interview

The American journalist was himself interviewed at the World Government Summit

Following his two-hour interview with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow, US journalist Tucker Carlson opened up about his experience at the World Government Summit in Dubai.

In an hour-long interview with TV presenter Emad Eldin Adeeb, Carlson addressed why the conversation with Putin did not touch on certain topics, how the US political establishment had reacted to it, and why Washington has failed to understand Moscow, among other things.

Putin the diplomat

According to Carlson, he had an off-the-record conversation with Putin after their recorded interview was over. He would not reveal what was discussed, however.

Carlson did say thatPutin seemed willing to negotiate with the West about both the end of the Ukraine conflict and a new balance of power in the world. Diplomacy is the art of compromise, and almost everyone “other than maybe the United States during the unipolar period” understands this, Carlson said. But while Putin wants the conflict to end, his position will only harden the longer it goes on, he added.

NATO and Russia

One of the major revelations in the interview for Carlson was that Russia had asked to join NATO – and while then-US President Bill Clinton seemed receptive, his aides pushed against the idea and it ultimately failed.

Since the entire point of NATO was to keep the Soviet Union out of Western Europe, Carlson said in Dubai, “if the Russians ask to join the alliance, that would suggest you have solved the problem and you can move on to do something constructive with your life. But we refused.”

“Go sit in the sauna for an hour and think about what that means,” he added.

The problem with Western politicians

Politicians in the West aren’t setting themselves “achievable” goals, Carlson has argued.

“I have heard personally US government officials say well we just have to return Crimea to Ukraine,” he said. “That’s not going to happen, short of a nuclear war. That’s insane, actually.”

Even bringing up this kind of idea “shows you are a child, you don’t understand the area at all, and you have no real sense of what’s possible,” the journalist concluded.

It’s always Munich 1938

According to Carlson, one of the biggest issues in the US and the West in general is the tendency to reduce everything to the1938 Munich conference, at which Britain and France sought to “appease” Nazi Germany by giving it a portion of Czechoslovakia.

“The American policymaker historical template is tiny – in fact there’s only one – and it’s a 2-year period in the late 1930s, and everything is based on that understanding of history and human nature. That’s insane,” Carlson said.

How Moscow ‘radicalized’ him

Carlson pointed out that he’s 54 and grew up in an America that had nice, safe and beautiful cities, “and we no longer have them.”

It was “radicalizing” to see Moscow “cleaner, safer and prettier” than American cities, he said, or be reminded of that in Dubai and Abu Dhabi – while in the US, one can’t ride the subway in New York City because it’s dirty and unsafe.

“That’s a voluntary choice,” he said. “You don’t have to have crime, actually.”

Reacting to the backlash

Asked why he hadn’t raised certain topics with Putin, Carlson said he wanted to do the interview because he was interested in how the Russian leader saw the world – and not to inject himself into the discussion.

Most journalists who interview leaders the US dislikes, tend to make it about themselves, Carlson added, and since he only cared about the approval of his wife and their children, he didn’t need to virtue-signal.

=Asked to comment on former US presidential candidate Hillary Clintoncalling him a “useful idiot” for Russia, Carlson laughed it off.

“She’s a child, I don’t listen to her,” he said. “How’s Libya doing?”

Identifying and Mitigating Living Off the Land Techniques provides threat detection information and mitigations applicable to LOTL activity, regardless of threat actor. Many organizations do not implement security best practice capabilities that support detection of living off the land (LOTL), so this technique continues to be effective with little to no investment in tooling by malicious cyber actors. This guidance provides several observed network defense weaknesses that make it difficult for IT administrators to distinguish malicious activity from legitimate behavior, even for those organizations with more mature cyber postures.

This guidance is based on previously published products, red team assessments, and/or observations from incident response activities at critical infrastructure organizations, including those compromised by the PRC state-sponsored cyber group known as Volt Typhoon. For more on Volt Typhoon specifically, refer to our Joint Cybersecurity Advisory PRC State-Sponsored Actors Compromise and Maintain Persistent Access to U.S. Critical Infrastructure.

The Pentagon and CIA Germ Warfare Program

The American Security State never stopped creating deadly biological warfare germs in the United States and abroad.

Biological warfare research began in the United States in 1943 by order of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. The U.S. Army Chemical Warfare Service then began a large-scale research and development program at Fort Detrick in Frederick, Maryland. That research continues to this day.

President Nixon’s Executive Order in 1969

President Nixon’s “Statement on Chemical and Biological Defense Policies and Programs,” was signed in late 1969. Nixon ordered “The United States shall renounce the use of lethal biological agents and weapons, and all other methods of biological warfare,” and “The United States will confine its biological research to defensive measures such as immunization and safety measures.” The Department of Defense (DoD) and the CIA simply ignored the president’s executive order.

Fort Detrick survived Nixon’s order by destroying all evidence of offensive biowar research on the base. Nevertheless, DoD and CIA continued research in other labs. In 2015 reporters for USA TODAY found more than 200 high-containment lab facilities in all 50 states and the District of Columbia operated by government agencies, universities, and public and private companies. They wrote, “They're scattered across the country from the heart of New York City to a valley in Montana; from an area near Seattle's Space Needle to just a few blocks from Kansas City's Country Club Plaza restaurant and shopping district.”

In 2009 I was seeking facts for my novel, The Woolsorter’s Plague. A friend arranged for a visit to Fort Detrick to see the emergency hospital I wanted to include in my book. I did see the hospital – it had an airlock, was nicknamed “The Slammer,” and the director said it could deal with any accidental exposures to germs by the staff. During my tour I saw labs with door labels like Ebola, Marburg and other deadly pathogens. The director assured me their research was designed to find cures and vaccines for all those diseases. It was 2009, long after Nixon’s order, so I believed him.

The Biological Weapons Convention

In 1972 we signed The Biological Weapons Convention and by 2023 it was ratified by 185 countries. The Convention is a disarmament treaty that bans biological weapons by prohibiting development, production, acquisition, transfer, stockpiling and use. The Pentagon and CIA evaded the terms of that treaty even though it was ratified by the Senate and took effect in 1975. Once again, DoD and CIA ignored it by hiding their research programs with a screen of top-secret classifications and by stonewalling inquiries.

One of LFI’s main activities is to fund Labour MPs to go on “fact-finding” missions to Israel.

Declassified has found that since 2002, LFI has contributed over £150,000 towards such activities. Between 2001 and 2009, LFI took more Labour MPs on trips abroad than any other lobby group.

Houthis Hold Funeral for 17 Killed in Recent US and British Strikes

CENTCOM announced more strikes on Yemen on Saturday

The Houthis held a funeral on Saturday for 17 of its members who were killed by recent US and British strikes on Yemen.

“In a dignified funeral procession, the bodies of several martyrs of the nation, armed forces, and security forces who were martyred in the American-British aggression airstrikes, were mourned,” Yemen’s Saba news agency reported.

According to Turkey’s Anadolu Agency, the announcement of the funeral marks the second time the Houthis reported fatalities in the US and British bombings since they started. After the first round was launched on January 12, the Houthis said five of its members were killed.

Since January 12, the US has launched around 30 rounds of missile strikes on Yemen. Some have been single unilateral US strikes, while in other cases, the US and Britain have joined together to launch heavier bombings to hit dozens of targets. The strikes have been launched from both fighter jets and warships in the Red Sea.

The new US war against the Houthis has done nothing to deter the Yemeni group. The Houthis, officially known as Ansar Allah, have vowed they won’t stop targeting Israel-linked shipping in the Red Sea until the slaughter in Gaza comes to an end. They also began targeting American and British commercial shipping once the US and UK started the bombing campaign.

Hamas declared that the attack on Rafah was a continuation of a “genocidal war” and forced displacement attempts Israel has waged against the Palestinian people. The day before, Hamas leader warned that any Israeli ground offensive in Rafah would “blow up” the hostage-exchange negotiations.

Egypt was also not pleased by Israeli attack on the border city. Egyptian politicians called the bombing “crossing all borders” and “blatant ignoring of Egypt’s interests.” Since the beginning of the Israeli operations in the Palestinian enclave, the population of the city of Rafah located on the southern border of the Gaza Strip increased more than 10 times, posing the greater threat to the security of the Egyptian borders. The Egyptian authorities are concerned that refugee flows may break through the border and pour into Egypt.

“Egypt called for the necessity of uniting all international and regional efforts to prevent the targeting of the Palestinian city of Rafah,” Egyptian foreign ministry claimed on February 11.

It involved pro-Israel lobbyists in the West, and started to raise questions about the legitimacy of Egypt’s sovereignty over the strategic territory after the June 1967 Six Day War, British documents unearthed at the National Archives in Kew reveal.

During the war, Israel occupied Sinai, along with the West Bank and Gaza in Palestine, as well as the Syrian Golan Heights. The Sinai Peninsula covers an area of about 61,000 square km, approximately six per cent of Egypt’s total area, and is equivalent to nearly a quarter of the area of Israel.

The documents show that although Britain’s position was that Egyptian sovereignty over Sinai was evident, it considered the judicial status of this sovereignty a “card” to use when it served British interests. Ever since the 1967 war, they reveal, the Israelis “have from time to time flown a number of exploratory kites on the future of Sinai.”

Pro-Israel British and Western lobbies asked questions about the legitimacy of Egypt’s claim to the territory. Two years after the Israeli occupation of Sinai, the Jewish Observer and Middle East Review, the then official publication of the Zionist Federation of Britain, published an article with a front-cover caption of “Sinai without the Egyptians — a new look at the past, present and future”.

This campaign prompted a discussion in the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office (the FCO, now called the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office) about the issue. What the British understood from the campaign was that the Israelis wanted to promote their case as follows: “Since the greater part of the [British] Mandated Territory is now incorporated in the State of Israel, Sinai should of right be regarded as Israeli territory.”

Israel and its lobbies argued that since Sinai properly belonged to Turkiye up to 1923, it should have become part of the Mandated Territory of Palestine at the end of the First World War and shouldn’t have been left under Egyptian control. The FCO didn’t accept this claim.

In a commissioned paper, the Middle East Section of the FCO Research Department refuted all five arguments of Israel and its supporters, which were:

Sovereignty over Sinai remained with the Turks up to 1923, and Sinai was at no time an integral part of the Khedivate [of Egypt].

The frontier was drawn as the result of force majeure exercised by Great Britain as the occupying power.

GB refused all Turkish offers of compromise, and the frontier was pushed even further east than the Egyptians themselves would have accepted.

Sinai belongs properly to Asia and the Arabian Peninsula and the United Arab Republic [Egypt], as an African power, has no place in it.

Sinai is of importance to Israel as the scene of liberation from Egyptian tyranny in the 13th century BC and forms a similar threat of destruction in the present era.

Based on these arguments, the Israelis wanted to convince the British that “[Egypt’s] claims to possess Sinai must be regarded as doubtful and indeed as less enduring than that of Israel.”

After a detailed review of the history and legal agreements, the paper stressed that in 1906 an “administrative line” was agreed as an established boundary, so the Turks “could be said to have preserved their sovereign rights over Sinai.”

The inside story of how Congress is pursuing endless war in Ukraine—and trying to stop a Trump election.

This weekend, Senate Democrats (joined by a few Republicans, including most Republican leadership) forced througha “security supplemental” that spends close to $100 billion, most of it on Ukraine. It was the culmination of months of secretive negotiations on border security. Those negotiations produced a border security product unacceptable to most Republicans, so then Republicans voted it down, and then an hour later we were debating a security supplemental with border security stripped out.

The quick pivot, refusal to negotiate another round on border security, andimmediate shift to blame Trump confirmed one thing: Republican leadership wasn’t serious about border security.They cared most about Ukraine funding and saw the border negotiations as a distraction. This extinguished any hope of real border security before the negotiation began.

The story our leadership tells is that the “politics of border security” had changed because of Donald Trump. James Lankford dutifully negotiated a bipartisan border product. Conservative Republicans encouraged this negotiation. When the product took shape, Donald Trump demanded conservatives walk. Trump argued that Joe Biden didn’t need a border security package—which was true—so Republicans should ask simply that Joe Biden do his job. This intervention allegedly killed a great piece of border policy.

This is a fairytale that makes conservative senators and Donald Trump look bad, perhaps by design. In truth, the demands conservative senators made at the beginning of the negotiation went like this: Joe Biden can fix this problem, but he refuses, so we must make him do his job. This posture came along specific demands from senators ranging from Ukraine aid supporters like Marco Rubio to Ukraine aid skeptics like me, and those in the middle like Ron Johnson. We argued that we could condition further Ukraine aid on decreased illegal border crossings. In other words, Congress would appropriate money to Ukraine in stages: if Biden refused to drive down border crossings, he wouldn’t get his money for Ukraine.

The deal, as envisioned by conservatives, was apparently never on the table. According to both Democratic colleagues and some Republicans, this is because Republican leadership—specifically Mitch McConnell—refused to push the Democrats on this issue. Other Republicans have argued instead that even if Mitch McConnell empowered Lankford to make this demand, Democrats would have never agreed.

Obviously, this latter view reflects more favorably on Mitch McConnell, but only by a little, because it suggests a massive asymmetry in negotiating leverage. If Democrats are desperate for Ukraine aid, and Republicans—at least the negotiating Republicans—are also desperate for Ukraine aid, border security would inevitably land on the chopping block.

Did Trump oppose a deal?He certainly opposed the deal that was on the table. It would have done little to secure the border in the future, would have been a massive political gift to the Democrats, and would constrain Trump’s border enforcement if he was ever elected president. This last point deserves extra emphasis: these bipartisan deals always seem to contain provisions that would put the next president, whoever that is, in a box.

Given its substance, it is hardly surprising that he opposed the deal, but most Republicans opposed the deal well before he weighed in—publicly or privately. In fact, the only conversation I had with Donald Trump about the border deal was a day after the text came out, well after I had opposed the bill’s headline provisions. “Why do you guys want to give these people such a gift? It’s stupid.” It was an accurate point, but it didn’t change anyone’s mind because most of us already agreed with the former president.

So the deal fell apart, and the way it fell apart was the height of political malpractice. The text—370 pages of it—dropped late Sunday, February 4. We had a Republican conference meeting on Monday, well before anyone had time to digest major provisions. McConnell left the meeting and praised the bill but criticized the changing political dynamics. He blamed Donald Trump. He blamed the House of Representatives.

It’s hard to imagine a more damaging political message:Hey everyone, we’ve got great bipartisan policy, but we’re going to kill it because the knuckle draggers don’t like it.It was a gift to Democrats and everyone knew it. Senate candidates across the country, many of whom are allies of Mitch McConnell, called me to complain bitterly of the predicament created by leadership in Washington….

Normally, spending bills go through months of review, committee markups, and hours of debate. The text of the Ukraine supplemental was distributed to Hill staff on Wednesday, February 7, and the first procedural vote was taken less than a day later. On February 5, many senators had emphasized the importance of doing something on the border before action was taken on Ukraine. Two days later, at least some of them had decided that fighting for border security for an hour had checked the box, and they were ready to move on to their real priority: funding for Ukraine. The bill will pass, albeit by a tiny margin, with a majority of Republicans opposing the bait and switch.

This current episode is finished, at least in the senate, but there will be many reruns. The form of this debacle will replay itself, to the great detriment of Donald Trump and other Republican candidates. Three facts are important.First, voters range from ambivalent to outright hostile of further Ukraine aid.

Second, a subset of Republican senators are obsessed with Ukraine aid, caring about this issue more than any other.Third, a majority of House Republicans oppose further Ukraine aid, and demand strong border security measures regardless of the details of a Ukraine package.

It’s easy to sketch out how these facts will manifest themselves in our political reality. The senate Ukraine bill goes to the House, where leadership there cannot bring it up to the floor without endangering House Speaker Mike Johnson. So the House will either refuse to vote on the Ukraine bill, or will attach a strong border security bill (like HR2) and then send it back to the Senate.In public and private, Senate Republican leadership will undermine the House leadership and the Republican presidential nominee.

Democrats could try to force House leadership to bring up Ukraine aid with a discharge petition, an approach that would hand control of the House floor over to Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries with the aid of a few House Republicans.

Speaker Johnson could fight this maneuver aggressively. If he does, he will be attacked by Senate Republican leaders, at least privately, and will face another negative news cycle. If he doesn’t, his own conference will turn against him. The cycle will replay over the government funding deadline in March. It will replay over the omnibus debate that follows. It will replay any time the U.S. Congress must actually do something.

Whatever shape this takes, the basic game will be the same.The media, obsessed with any story that makes Trump look bad, will blame him and “MAGA Republicans” in the House. They will blame Trump for the chaos. They will blame Trump for “extremism.” They will refuse to report on Biden’s failings and instead focus on internal Republican division. They will point to Republican senators attacking Donald Trump and House Republicans, just as they have over the last week. Democrats will run advertisements: “See, even Mitch McConnell thinks Trump is being ridiculous.” And they will rinse and repeat this narrative all the way to the November election.

This is how you save Joe Biden’s presidency: By taking the chaos of Joe Biden’s tenure and making it about Republican chaosbeing even worse. By taking the extremism of Democrats and making it all about the crazy right-wingers in the House and Mar-a-Lago.

TheRepublican establishment of Washington is so obsessively committed to Ukraine that they will use every tool at their disposalto apply pressure to other Republicans to write that big Ukraine check. The problem is that every time they apply pressure, they create an opening for Democrats and the media to tank our nominee.

For months, I have been confident that Donald Trump would be reelected as president. But this is how you snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. The Republican establishment is going to war for more Ukraine money. They don’t care if a second Trump term is collateral damage.

To this day it’s understood by the mainstream press that it’s unacceptable to depict anyone of the Jewish faith as any kind of puppet-master figure in any context at all. Fox News, the Dutch paper De Volkskrant, the Indian Bharatiya Janata Party and right wing political cartoonist Ben Garrison have all come under fire in recent years for depicting Jewish people in that way, so it’s safe to say that if The Guardian had published a similar cartoon about Israeli influence featuring an Israeli leader it would have been a massive scandal subject to international outcry.

In fact the bar is quite a bit lower for what qualifies as an outrageous racist trope when it comes to criticism of Israel. Mainstream platforms like The Guardian, The New York Times and the Sunday Times have been pressured to remove cartoons critical of Israel which are far less clearly anti-semitic than cartoons about sinister puppet masters. In 2014 the Sydney Morning Herald was pressured to remove and apologise for a cartoon which was labeled anti-semitic because it featured “a grotesque stereotype of a Jew using a remote-control device to blow up houses and people in Gaza,” something that for the last four months has been a daily occurrence and an objective fact of life.

There is zero chance that The Guardian’s editors would have even for a second entertained the idea of publishing such a cartoon about Israeli leaders in the year 2024, but apparently publishing the exact same sort of rehashed Nazi propaganda about Iranian leaders is perfectly fine.

New York Times columnist Tom Friedman, who has never met a middle eastern war that didn’t physically arouse him, was somehow permitted to publish an article titled “Understanding the Middle East Through the Animal Kingdom” which compares middle easterners to insects and parasites.

There is of course no meaningful analysis in Friedman’s piece; he’s literally just comparing countries he likes to cool animals and countries he doesn’t like to yucky bugs. Hamas is a spider. Iran is a “parasitoid wasp”, and Lebanon, Yemen, Syria and Iraq are the caterpillars it lays its eggs in. Netanyahu is a lemur, hopping side to side based on the political demands of the moment, and the United States? You guys, get this: the United States is a lion. Rooooar!

Again, there is no mainstream western outlet in existence who would permit a columnist to compare Israelis to insects or parasites, and rightly so — it’s exactly the type of dehumanising language was used by the Nazis to pave the way to the Holocaust. But comparing Muslim populations is a-okay in the eyes of the western press.

“We have no counterstrategy that safely and efficiently kills the wasp without setting fire to the whole jungle,” Friedman writes, as though this is a perfectly sane and normal thing to print in the most influential newspaper in the western world.

“Sometimes I contemplate the Middle East by watching CNN. Other times, I prefer Animal Planet,” Friedman concludes, apparently never having been told that contemplating the middle east by watching either is an embarrassing admission.

And that’s it. That’s the extent of the analysis here from mister Thomas L Friedman, who has won no fewer than three Pulitzers for this kind of baby-brained schtick. And if that isn’t an indictment of the state of western journalism, nothing is.

Not to be outdone, The Wall Street Journal has published an article by Steven Stalinsky titled “Welcome to Dearborn, America’s Jihad Capital” about the Michigan city which is home to the largest per capita Muslim population in the United States.

In the last few days The Wall Street Journal has also published editorial board pieces with demented headlines like “Chicago Votes for Hamas” after the Chicago City Council voted to support a ceasefire in Gaza, and “The U.N.’s War on Israel” about the since-discredited narrative that some UNRWA staff are known to have participated in the October 7 attack.

Iraq to DITCH U.S. dollar for oil trades, joining growing dedollarization trend

In an effort to dodge ongoing United States sanctions against its banking system, the finance committee of the parliament of Iraq wants all oil sales from here on out to be transacted in currencies other than the Federal Reserve Notes, also known as the U.S. dollar.

The committee released a statement chastising the U.S. government for making up excuses to sanction Iraq’s banking system in order to obstruct the stability of Iraq’s financial system at large.

“The U.S. Treasury still uses the pretext of money laundering to impose sanctions on Iraqi banks,” the statement reads. “This requires a national stance to put an end to these arbitrary decisions.”

“Imposing sanctions on Iraqi banks undermines and obstructs Central Bank efforts to stabilize the dollar exchange rate and reduce the selling gap between official and parallel rates.”

Iraq’s finance committee had previously called on both its government and central bank to take swift measures against U.S. dollar dominance by diversifying its cash reserves from foreign currencies. It reaffirmed this call on January 31, adding that the Iraqi government needs to take action immediately due to the repercussions of all this on the livelihoods of Iraqi citizens.

Iraq wants the U.S. gone from its borders

The call comes after Washington imposed sanctions on Iraq’s Al-Huda Bank for allegedly laundering money for Iran. Similar sanctions were imposed on other Iraqi institutions over the past year based on the same allegations.

A top U.S. Treasury official issued a declaration around the same time that it expects Baghdad to assist in locating and sabotaging the financial resources of various resistance groups in Iraq that are funded by Iran.

“These are, as a whole, groups that are actively using and abusing Iraq and its financial systems and structure to perpetuate these acts and we have to address that directly,” the official claimed in a statement.

“Frankly, I think it is our expectation from a Treasury perspective that there is more we can do together to share information and identify exactly how these militia groups are operating here in Iraq.”

Attorney-General Mark Dreyfus said the laws would fold into already-planned changes to privacy laws.

"The increasing use of online platforms to harm people through the malicious release of their personal and private information is a deeply disturbing development," he said.

"The recent targeting of members of the Australian Jewish community through doxxing was shocking, but sadly a far from isolated event."

The laws are expected to be tailored to avoid impacting public-interest journalism.
