Tyler Robinson, a special advisor at the United States Small Business Administration (SBA), recently revealed to an O’Keefe Media Group undercover journalist the inner workings of the Biden Administration and who is really running the White House.

 

Robinson says he reports to Arthur Plews, SBA Chief of Staff, who reports to SBA Administrator Isabel Casillas Guzman.

 

He revealed that some refer to former Facebook board member and Biden Chief of Staff Jeff Zients as “the second most powerful person in Washington” and that “by getting Jeff’s sign off, you’re getting the President to sign off.”

 

“Whatever this guy says, it’s what the President says,” Robinson told an undercover journalist. Robinson also said Jeff Zients is the most powerful person at the White House, “other than like the President.” Zients is even more powerful than Kamala Harris “in some ways” but “not legally,” according to Robinson.

 

Zeints’ approval for activity within the Administration includes his sign-off on activity that potentially violates the Hatch Act, which prevents federal employees from taking part in partisan activity or influencing an election. Robinson says that SBA Administrator Isabel Guzman indirectly campaigns for Joe Biden and helps to get Democrats elected in Congress. “Pretty much every week, she goes somewhere in the country… We can tell their accomplishments; she can’t like go on a stage and be like, ‘Hey, vote for Joe Biden.’ Like that’s illegal,” said Robinson.

 

“Any time we go [to a state], we try to visit with a Member of Congress, if they’re a Democrat… because then we can help them get reelected as well. So we’re going to Montana because Senator Tester, he’s the Democratic Senator from Montana, like he’s in a tough reelection race, and that’s like a seat we need in the Senate to maintain a majority.” Robinson added, “We all, like as an office, were going, and the White House was like, ‘yes, go. Invite Senator Tester. Don’t invite the other Senator because he’s a Republican, and don’t invite the two members of Congress because they’re Republicans.'” He then confirmed that the White House authorized the SBA to campaign for this Senator.

 

Robinson also revealed that Biden’s shadow cabinet of advisors, which includes Barrack Obama and Hillary Clinton. According to Robinson, Hillary Clinton is close to people in the White House, such as Director of the Domestic Policy Council Neera Tanden, a former employee of Hillary Clinton, and uses them to influence policy. “She does a lot of the international stuff… They have like the Clinton Initiative,” he added.

 

Recall that O’Keefe previously exposed another White House official who admitted that Joe Biden’s mental health is in decline and that there are closed-door discussions about how to remove Kamala Harris from the 2024 ticket without stirring a “scandal” and giving poor optics to the American people.

The inside story of how House Speaker Mike Johnson was flip-flopped on Ukraine aid starts with his top policy adviser, a former lobbyist whose clients include a number of major companies who have issued corporate statements indicating some kind of interest in the war.

 

Johnson’s policy director, Dan Ziegler, was–until he joined the Speaker’s office as his top policy aide when Johnson won the Speakership last year–a lobbyist with the firm Williams & Jensen. He had previously worked for Johnson in other capacities, but left Johnson to become a lobbyist and accumulated a client list that included several top companies–some of which seem to have a financial interest in seeing Congress pass Ukraine aid. The lobbying firm for which he worked represents a number of top companies. Lobbying disclosures reveal Ziegler represented many of these companies, including several that have made corporate statements about the war in Ukraine or issued press statements or other public guidance saying it could affect their business operations.

 

What’s more, Ziegler also represented the highly controversial News Media Alliance, which was lobbying Congress when he worked for Williams & Jensen to push a dangerous proposal that would have severely hurt conservative media. That proposal, called the Journalism Competition & Preservation Act (JCPA), has died several times in Congress but has kept coming back to life thanks to lobbyist pressure.

 

Ziegler is not the only one in Johnson’s inner circle who has issues. Several other staffers working for Johnson have a series of troubling developments in their backgrounds, and as of now it is unclear if the Speaker himself is aware of all of this or not. Either way, this raises serious questions about his management of the conference and his handling of major legislative proposals like the foreign aid plan before Congress this week–and it undercuts the explanation several Johnson apologists have offered up that he is just having a tough time managing a one-seat majority and things would not be different if he resigned and Republicans picked a new Speaker.

 

This Breitbart News investigation is the product of research of lobbying disclosures, interviews with a number of highly-connected insiders–most of whom would not speak on record for fear of reprisal–and aggressive questioning of the Speaker’s office and his staff, including questioning of top aides. Meet the Men Who Flip-Flopped Johnson

 

The people behind this plot are a collection of interesting individuals, most of whom the public has never heard of. The Speakeru2019s top two advisers, Policy Director Dan Ziegler and National Security Adviser Josh Hodges, are per multiple sources familiar with the matter, the top two aides within the Speakeru2019s office intently pushing him to flip-flop on Ukraine aide. Before Johnson became Speaker, Johnson voted against $47 billion designated to defend Ukraineu2019s border. u201cThe process for passing this bill is almost as ugly as the substance: written behind closed doors, released Monday overnight, and brought for a vote before anyone could possibly read itu2014much less debate or amend it,u201d Johnson said at the time.

 

He also voted with Greene on an amendment just last year that would have stripped $300 million that went to Ukraine out of the September 2023 Pentagon Appropriations package. So how did Johnson go from opposing even a measly sum like $300 millionu2013and opposing things like the $47 billion at the end of now former House Speaker Pelosiu2019s term in late 2022u2013to supporting sending even more than either of those sums, more than $48 billion, to Ukraine? The answer appears to be in who the Speaker surrounded himself with on his paid staff.

 

Johnsonu2019s tune on Ukraine changed when he became Speaker and hired Ziegler and Hodges, two men who previously worked for Johnson during his tenure as a back-bench representative. On Wednesday, Johnsonu2019s office unveiled a complicated scheme that includes a standalone vote on tens of billions in American taxpayer aid to Ukraine.

 

The process of the vote entails Johnson retracting promises he made to conservatives to win the Speakeru2019s gavel.

The legislation will likely only pass the House if enough Democrats support the measure.

Johnsonu2019s scheme infuriated conservatives and some Republican lawmakers, who accuse Johnson of pushing President Joe Bidenu2019s agenda and advocating for Ukraineu2019s border instead of Americau2019s southern border.

 

u201cI donu2019t think Ziegler and Hodges are cut out for these roles. And the results speak for themselves,u201d a source familiar with the inner workings of Johnsonu2019s office told Breitbart News. u201cSadly, the Republican Conference and Americans will bear the brunt of their poor counsel.u201d

 

u201cHouse members should know that these two are at the table making bad calls, both strategically and substantively,u201d the source added.

 

Raj Shah, the Speakeru2019s deputy chief of staff for communications, has not answered a detailed inquiry from Breitbart News about Ziegler and Hodges. Upon receiving questions about them, Shah asked Breitbart News to speak off record on the matteru2013a request that Breitbart News denied him given the seriousness of these issues and questions. Shah has not provided any on record commentary and has not answered in depth questions about them.

 

Shah himself is another interesting figure in this whole mix of things. The top press spokesman for Johnson, he previously worked at the Republican National Committee (RNC), then moved into Trumpu2019s White House for some time. In that timeframe, Shah appeared in public sometimes as a White House spokesman and backup option for then Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sandersu2013who is now the governor of Arkansasu2013but then he left the White House and went to work at Fox Corporation alongside now former House Speaker Paul Ryan. Shahu2019s communications were among those revealed in the legal matter between Fox News and Dominion, in which he was regularly listed as a top official there alongside Ryan.

 

Shah has emerged as a key enforcer of Johnsonu2019s communications structure, blocking and tackling any criticisms that come at the Speaker from the right. On his account on Xu2013the platform formerly known as Twitteru2013Shah has in recent days elevated several Never Trump establishment Republicans who have backed Johnson amid criticisms from Greene and Massie among others. Shah has promoted the following messages from people including Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp and Utah Gov. Spencer Cox:

Shah has not answered specifically if Johnson approves of his actions. But asked if Johnson authorized his attacks via social media on GOP members of Congress and elevation of Never Trumpers like Kemp and Cox, Shah told Breitbart News: u201cWe didnu2019t discuss it if thatu2019s what youu2019re asking.u201d

 

Trumpu2019s history with Kemp is very contentious and widely known, but Cox is perhaps an even worse Never Trumper. Just a couple months ago in mid-February, when Trump had already won the Iowa caucuses and New Hampshire primary just before the South Carolina primary, Cox said it would be a u201chuge mistakeu201d for Republicans to nominate Trump for president in 2024. Trump would obviously go on to decimate former United States ambassador to the United Nations and former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley in her own state and on Super Tuesday, winning the nomination. But Cox remains adamantly critical of Trump.

Asked if he–Shah himself–and Speaker Johnson agree with Cox’s mid-February statement that it would be a “huge mistake” for the GOP to nominate Trump, Shah did not answer either question directly. Shah also would not answer when asked why Speaker Johnson does not have a Truth Social account and whether the Speaker dislikes Trump’s wildly successful social media platform. In response to those questions, Shah just sent a generic statement to Breitbart News: “Speaker Johnson strongly supports President Trump, endorsed him last year, twice served on his impeachment defense team, and authored the House GOP amicus brief about the 2020 election.”

 

The Lobbyist Who Became Johnson’s Right Hand Man

 

Ziegler, a former lobbyist at the firm Williams & Jensen, previously worked for Johnson as the executive director of the conservative Republican Study Committee (RSC) that Johnson chaired from 2019 to 2021. Johnson reportedly “lamented” his departure from RSC, but Ziegler remained one of Johnson’s “closest allies on K Street,” lobbyists told Politico. Ziegler went back to Capitol Hill when Johnson became Speaker last year.

 

“When Ziegler was at the RSC, he was in an ivory tower. He was in a role where he came up with all these conservative wishlist items, but when the rubber meets the road in negotiations, Ziegler reverted to Republican policies of a bygone era,” the source said.

 

As a lobbyist, Ziegler’s clients included pharmaceutical corporations, financial services firms, and energy companies, among other powerful interests, according to disclosures available on the website of the Center for Responsive Politics. Several of Ziegler’s former clients seem to have a financial interest in seeing Congress pass Ukraine aid, too.

 

Drugmaker Amgen, Inc., one of Ziegler’s clients, issued a 2022 statement after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine saying it was halting all non-essential business activity in Russia and that it was continuing its efforts to provide healthcare services in Ukraine.

 

“We are deeply saddened by the war in Ukraine and condemn the violence and suffering the people of Ukraine are experiencing,” Amgen said in a corporate statement at the time. “The Amgen Foundation has made grants to international agencies supporting humanitarian aid to the Ukrainian people. These grants have been amplified by donations from hundreds of Amgen employees that are being matched dollar-for-dollar by the Amgen Foundation. Amgen is also providing additional support to local humanitarian organizations in Eastern Europe.”

 

Another Ziegler client when he worked as a lobbyist last year was Bloom Energy Corp. Per its website, Bloom Energy provides energy services to many international and American companies, including Lockheed Martin, an arms supplier to the U.S. military. If Congress passes this aid package, Lockheed Martin could very well get more business as a result and providers of essential services to the company like what Bloom Energy does–renewable energy services–could benefit as well. What’s more, several stories from a variety of outlets like Forbes and investor outlet Defiance ETFs have detailed how the Russian invasion of Ukraine has helped companies in Bloom Energy’s field of energy producers as Europe seeks to turn away from Russian natural gas. Both the Forbes piece and Defiance ETFs pieces specifically name Bloom Energy as a company benefitting from the invasion in its stock price. Bloom Energy also notably very recently got $75 million in tax credit funding from the Biden administration for a plant in California.

Thatu2019s not all. Ziegleru2019s client list also included medical services provider Eli Lilly & Co, which regularly has issued corporate statements of support for Ukraine in the war and also donated medicines to the nation while suspending u201call activitiesu201d in Russia.

 

Other former Ziegler lobbying clients like Visa, Inc., Vanguard Group, Pfizer, Sanofi, Owens & Minor, Merck, and Blue Cross Blue Shield have issued corporate statements on the war, doing things like cutting off business in Russia, donating profits from Russian business to charity, offering up charitable donations for Ukrainians, and more.

 

Another one of Ziegleru2019s former clients, a connectivity and sensors company called TE Connectivity, actually has a warning that the Russia-Ukraine war might affect u201cforward-looking statementsu201d about the companyu2019s operations in press statements like this December 2023 press release. Among the things listed that the company says are u201c[e]xamples of factors that could cause actual results to differ materially from those described in the forward-looking statements include, among others, the extent, severity and duration of business interruptionsu201d are u201cnatural disasters and political, economic and military instability in countries in which we operate, including continuing military conflict between Russia and Ukraine resulting from Russiau2019s invasion of Ukraine or escalating tensions in surrounding countries; developments in the credit markets.u201d

Another highly controversial client of Ziegleru2019s, per the public disclosures, was a group called the News Media Alliance. Williams & Jensen, the broader lobbying firm for which Ziegler worked, is a lobbying outfit that was previously, as Breitbart News reported in 2022, connected to efforts to undercut conservative media through a ploy called the Journalism Competition and Preservative Act (JCPA). The group pushing this was the News Media Alliance, and now it can revealed that Johnsonu2019s top policy adviser was one of the lobbyists for Williams & Jensen pushing this highly controversial proposal. Johnson has not publicly stated where he stands on the JCPA, and it is unclear if Ziegler has had any conversations with the Speaker about this dangerous proposal.

 

The fact of the matter is these revelations are particularly disturbing and probably will lead to more investigation and more facts to come out in the coming days, weeks, and months ahead. Some sources with knowledge of the matter expect ethics referrals about this in particular, but whether that goes anywhere remains to be seen.

 

Itu2019s worth noting that among the questions that Shah, on Johnsonu2019s behalf, refused to answer from Breitbart News about this include whether Ziegler filed or received any waivers that allowed him to ethically move from a lobbyist position right into being the Speakeru2019s top policy aide, and whether or not Johnson himself would stand in the way of any possible forthcoming congressional ethics investigations into these matters from either the Office of Congressional Ethics or the House Ethics Committee if either body decides to investigate. Shah has also refused to answer whether Johnson informed House Republican members of these lobbying connections of his top policy aide.

Ziegleru2019s Number Two: The Ukraine Whisperer

 

Josh Hodges, who serves Johnson as his national security adviser but reports to Ziegler in the Speakeru2019s office, also previously worked for Johnson, from 2017 to 2018. He left Johnson to serve in the Trump administration, where he worked in the intelligence community. Hodges served at the Department of Energyu2019s National Nuclear Security Administration, the United States Agency for International Development, and as a member of the National Security Council as senior director for Western Hemisphere affairs.

 

Hodges holds a M.A. in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College, and a B.A. in international studies from Louisiana State University.

 

He reentered Johnsonu2019s orbit as a congressional aide through the Judiciary Committee, a panel of which Johnson was a member before elected Speaker.

 

Hodges is the brain behind many of the most controversial Johnson policy decisions related to funding foreign wars, FISA, foreign affairs, and national security, a source familiar with the Speakeru2019s officeu2019s inner workings told Breitbart News. According to Legistorm, Hodges handles Johnsonu2019s armed forces and national security portfolios.

“I just reviewed a portion of Biden’s classified documents that were taken from his basement by Special Counsel Hur,” the Florida Republican wrote on X.

 

The material in the documents – which date back to Biden’s long tenure in the Senate and his eight years as vice president – was still pertinent to existing threats, according to Waltz.

 

“They were HIGHLY CLASSIFIED and relevant to current national security threats,” the House Intelligence Committee member said.

 

“We need an immediate damage assessment from the Intelligence Community,” he added, calling on federal agencies to review the risks to the nation that Biden’s mishandling of the documents posed.

 

The documents viewed by Waltz were related to Intelligence Community-derived information provided to Biden, andlawmakers are still fighting for access to White House-derived classified memos and documents, a person familiar told The Post.

 

In March, Special Counsel Robert Hur announced that he had opted against leveling criminal charges against the 81-year-old president over the scandal in part because Biden would come off as an “elderly man with poor memory’” at trial.

 

Hur’s investigation uncovered that Biden “willfully retained and disclosed classified materials” as a private citizen.

 

“These materials included (1) marked classified documents about military and foreign policy in Afghanistan, and (2) notebooks containing Mr. Biden’s handwritten entries about issues of national security and foreign policy implicating sensitive intelligence sources and methods,” the special counsel’s report stated.

Investigators found that Biden stashed documents classified up to the “Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information” level in boxes at his office at the Penn Biden Center think tank in Washington, DC, his Wilmington, Del., garage and in unlocked drawers and cabinets in the basement den of the home.

No more Russian language on air in three months – Kiev

Ukraine’s goal of eradicating bilingual media content has almost been achieved, the government has claimed

 

Ukraine’s ban on using the Russian language in the media will take full effect three months from now, Kiev’s state language protection commissioner, Taras Kremin, has said.

 

Since gaining independence,Ukraine has been a bilingual nation, with most citizens able to speak or understand both Russian and Ukrainian. After the US-backed coup in Kiev in 2014, the new nationalist authorities adopted policies aimed at suppressing the Russian language, on the grounds of national unity and security.

 

The restrictions include a requirement for national media to predominantly use Ukrainian in broadcasts. The permitted share of content in Russian has declined from 40% in 2016 to an almost complete ban, which will come into force in July – the deadline that Kremin referred to in his statement on Wednesday.

 

“Today national television channels practice bilingual Ukrainian-Russian programming, in which participants use the Russian language without a translation or subtitles,” he said. “Starting on July 17, this practice will end. There will be more Ukrainian language!”

 

The push by Ukrainian nationalist leaders to impose the state language on Russian-speakers living in the east of the country was a major reason for locals’ rejection of the post-coup authorities. One of the first acts of those who seized power in Kiev was to abolish a law adopted in 2012, which gave the Russian language official regional status.

 

The new authorities have been adopting laws to eradicate Russian from all spheres of public life, including education, entertainment, and even services provided by private businesses.

 

In an interview last year,Kremin denied that some Ukrainian citizens could be called Russian-speaking, describing the term was “a marker introduced by Russian ideology,” and declared that “everyone in the country must have a command of the Ukrainian language.”

 

In contrast, this week theleader of another post-Soviet nation, Kazakhstan, rejected the notionthat one language spoken by his people should be favored over others.

 

“Young people now are fluent in the state [Kazakh] language, in Russian language, in English and other languages, and that is good,” President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said on Tuesday. “It’s ridiculous to ramp up hysterics over a language, let alone fight against one, as they did in some other states. We all see what they have now as a result.”

 

The Kazakh leader did not specify which other nations he was referring to.

World Health Organization’s ‘Global Governance’ Gambit Is A Threat To Democracy

The World Health Assembly is set to vote on giving WHO the sole ability to determine public health emergencies and the global response.

 

The left loves to call any person or policy they disagree with a “threat to democracy.” Put aside the fact the United States is not a democracy but a constitutional and federal republic. The biggest threats to our form of government — and one being pushed by the Biden administration and largely ignored by Congress — are the upcoming votes on two World Health Organization (WHO) instruments that violate our representative system.

 

Each element of our constitutional system is at risk if the White House and Congress fail to stop the WHO’s global governance scheme.

 

The instruments under consideration by the WHO are amendments to the International Health Regulations (IHR) and the concurrent Pandemic Treaty, both of which will be voted on by the World Health Assembly (made up of the 196 member states) in less than two months. The purpose of these documents is to give the WHO director-general the sole ability not only to declare public health emergencies of international concern (PHEIC) but to mandate for every nation the global response such as lockdowns, travel restrictions, mandatory testing and vaccinations, and border closures. In addition, nations will be forced to spend billions of dollars to implement this global governance framework based on the principle of “equity.”

 

First, this is a threat to our constitutional republic because it removes the people’s elected representatives from their decision-making roles. Our elected officials on the local, state, and federal level will no longer control when and what is considered a public health emergency or what the government response will be.

 

The director general will have the sole authority to make declarations not only for actual pandemics but for any issue that has the potential to affect global health. Think climate change, gun violence, food security, abortion laws, rules for transgender medical interventions, and any other so-called threat to public health. The WHO has already weighed in on the “global health risks” tied to each of these hot-button political issues. There will be no ability for citizens to vote for or against the decision-makers, undermining the very concept of representative democracy.

 

In addition, these documents are a threat to the constitutional protections we now enjoy. The establishment of a global surveillance state by the WHO threatens the basic privacy rights of all Americans while the requirement in these accords for nations to “combat false, misleading, misinformation or disinformation” could easily violate our First Amendment freedom of speech. Each nation will be required to share intellectual property for use by other countries, decimating our unique American patent rights. Our constitutional protections will be undermined if the WHO gets its way.

 

Finally, under our federal system, the regulation of health care is under the purview of the states, including regulating the licensure of doctors, pharmacies, and hospitals and determining what vaccinations are required for school attendance. We experienced this clearly during the Covid crisis, when state and local leaders had, for the most part, the ability to decide when and how businesses and schools would reopen. Under the Pandemic Treaty and accompanying IHR amendments, this authority will be stripped from the states and given to an international organization in clear violation of the 10th Amendment to the Constitution.

 

To add insult to the very real injury about to befall us is the fact that the White House plans to sign onto the Pandemic Treaty and IHR amendments by “executive agreement” rather than submit them to the Senate for its constitutionally mandated advice and consent. And the U.S. Senate appears willing to accept this usurpation of their power. Last March, Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., offered an amendment to require a Senate vote on the Pandemic Treaty, but it failed to gain even one Democrat vote. This dereliction of duty on behalf of the Senate should not be excused.

 

Is there a “threat to democracy” facing our country today? Yes, indeed. It is the threat to our very constitutional republic by the World Health Organization via its proposed Pandemic Treaties and the refusal of the administration and Senate to do anything to stop it. This threat is not rhetorical but very real. And we, as Americans, must unite against it.

Insurers claim ‘government’ could have sabotaged Nord Stream – Kommersant

Lloyd’s of London and Arch Insurance have reportedly refused to pay compensation following the destruction of the gas pipelines

 

Insurance policies for the Nord Stream gaspipelines sabotaged in 2022 do not cover destruction or damage caused during military hostilities, Russian newspaper Kommersant reported on Thursday, citing a claim filed at the High Court in London by two major Western companies.

 

The reported claim by Lloyd’s of London and Arch Insurance comes in response to a court filing in March by Nord Stream AG, the pipeline’s operator.

 

The enterprise, which is 51% owned by Russian energy giant Gazprom, alleged at the time that insurers had failed to pay about €400 million ($438 million) for damage caused by the explosions at the pipelines, according to the Financial Times. Nord Stream AG reportedlyestimates it would cost over €1.2 billionto fully repair the infrastructure and replace the lost gas inventory.

 

In response, the two insurers are said to have claimed that “loss or damage directly or indirectly occasioned by, happening through, or in consequence of war” cannot be covered by the policies. They added that Russia-Ukraine conflict, which began in February 2022, “satisfies the terms war, invasion hostilities or military power.” The insurers also argue the damagecould have beencaused “by or under the order of any government,”according to Kommersant. (Insurance carriers can not guess and then refuse to pay, they have to conclusively prove it. They cannot prove the Russian owners were involved. This is not the end.)

 

Commenting on the report, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said major concerns have been raised over the credibility of Western insurance giants.Any refusal to pay liabilities adds to a series of hostile acts towards Russia, according to Zakharova, including the seizure of state assets and private property, as well as alleged threats to damage civilian infrastructure.

 

Built to deliver Russian natural gas directly to Germany via the Baltic Sea, the Nord Stream pipelines were damaged by unknown perpetrators in a series of explosions in September 2022. The blasts left three out of four pipelines inoperable, causing what is believed to be the largest single methane leak ever.

 

Shortly after the sabotage, Germany, Denmark and Sweden – in whose economic zones the attack took place – launched separate investigations, although no results have been published. Earlier this year, Denmark and Sweden said they had closed their probes.

 

The Russian authorities have claimed the US had the most to gain from the sabotage, pointing to the opposition to the pipelines repeatedly voiced by the White House. Moscow has also accused the West of stonewalling the investigation.

 

Last year, award-winning US journalist Seymour Hersh accused Washington of being behind the bombing, although the White House dismissed the allegations. Several Western media outlets later reported that Ukrainian citizens had been involved in the sabotage. Kiev has denied any connection to the attack.

 

As a result of the sabotage, gas supplies from Russia to Germany via Nord Stream 1 were halted. Nord Stream 2 had never been put into operation due to EU bureaucratic setbacks.

Self-Assembled Nanoparticles

Nucleic Acid Self-Assembled Nanoparticles

Self-assembled nanoparticles have a well-defined size which may be precisely controlled as the nucleic acid strands may be easily reprogrammable. For example, the optimal particle size for a cancer-targeting nanodelivery carrier is 20-100 nm as a diameter greater than 20 nm avoids renal clearance and enhances delivery to certain tumors through enhanced permeability and retention effect. Using self-assembled nucleic acid nanoparticles a single uniform population in size and shape having a precisely controlled spatial orientation and density of cancer-targeting ligands for enhanced delivery. As a non-limiting example, oligonucleotide nanoparticles were prepared using programmable self-assembly of short DNA fragments and therapeutic siRNAs. These nanoparticles are molecularly identical with controllable particle size and target ligand location and density. The DNA fragments and siRNAs self-assembled into a one-step reaction to generate DNA/siRNA tetrahedral nanoparticles for targeted in vivo delivery. (Lee et al., Nature Nanotechnology 2012 7:389-393; herein incorporated by reference in its entirety).

In one embodiment, the polynucleotides, primary constructs and/or mmRNA disclosed herein may be formulated as self-assembled nanoparticles. As a non-limiting example, nucleic acids may be used to make nanoparticles which may be used in a delivery system for the polynucleotides, primary constructs and/or mmRNA of the present invention (See e.g., International Pub. No. WO2012125987; herein incorporated by reference in its entirety).

 

Cell-Penetrating Polypeptides

The primary constructs or mmRNA disclosed herein, may encode one or more cell-penetrating polypeptides. As used herein, “cell-penetrating polypeptide” or CPP refers to a polypeptide which may facilitate the cellular uptake of molecules. A cell-penetrating polypeptide of the present invention may contain one or more detectable labels. The polypeptides may be partially labeled or completely labeled throughout. The polynucleotide, primary construct or mmRNA may encode the detectable label completely, partially or not at all. The cell-penetrating peptide may also include a signal sequence. As used herein, a “signal sequence” refers to a sequence of amino acid residues bound at the amino terminus of a nascent protein during protein translation. The signal sequence may be used to signal the secretion of the cell-penetrating polypeptide.

In one embodiment, the polynucleotides, primary constructs or mmRNA may also encode a fusion protein. The fusion protein may be created by operably linking a charged protein to a therapeutic protein. As used herein, “operably linked” refers to the therapeutic protein and the charged protein being connected in such a way to permit the expression of the complex when introduced into the cell. As used herein, “charged protein” refers to a protein that carries a positive, negative or overall neutral electrical charge. Humans are not doing a great job lowering carbon emissions, so scientists are searching for ways to buy the world time to kick its nasty fossil fuel habit.

One idea is marine cloud brightening (MCB), and a new study says that MCB could also create cloud cover, making it an even better ‘painkiller’ for climate change that previously thought.

However, there’s a lot scientists still don’t know about MCB, including how it could affect ocean circulation patterns and rainfall on land.

Coming as a surprise to no one, 2023 was the warmest year on record. And that’s just another step in an already disturbing trend that sparked the creation of the Paris Climate Accord in 2015. There’s just one problem: the world is falling behind its emission-reducing commitments.

 

The world is currently on track for 4.8 degrees Celsius warming by the end of the century, which is far above the 2.7 degree Celsius goal. To realize that less-apocalyptic goal, the world needs to cut 28 percent of the greenhouse gas emissions that it’s currently on track to produce, according to NPR. It’s undeniable that the world is in a bit of a time crunch, so some scientists are pursuing a Plan B—solar geoengineering. If successful, it could buy humanity time to fully kick our addiction to fossil fuels and embrace the green energy revolution.

 

Now, a new study by scientists at the University of Birmingham (in collaboration with other U.S. and European universities) discovered that one of these geoengineering techniques—a technology known as marine cloud brightening (MCB)—could be a more effective “painkiller” for climate change than previously realized. The researchers created a “natural experiment” by closely analyzing cloud behavior as related to the periodic eruptions of Mount Kilauea volcano in Hawaii.

 

These natural injections of aerosols into the atmosphere mimic the overall goal of marine cloud brightening, which (in simple terms) also injects aerosols—in the case of MCB, hyperfine sea salt particles—into clouds to increase their brightness and reflectiveness. However, the team found that MCB actually gets most of its cooling effect from creating cloud cover. The results were published in the journal Nature Geoscience on Thursday.

 

“Our findings show that marine cloud brightening could be more effective as a climate intervention than climate models have suggested previously,” University of Birmingham’s Ying Chen, the study’s lead author, said in a press statement. “We must continue to improve fundamental understanding of aerosol’s impacts on clouds, further research on global impacts and risks of MCB, and search for ways to decarbonize human activities.”

 

Using machine learning to pore over historical satellite and meteorological data, the team created a predictor that showed cloud behavior during inactive volcano periods. Then, the researchers could easily identify how the volcano directly impacted clouds. Turns out, natural aerosols increased cloud cover by 50 percent during volcanic activity, with a cooling effect of -10 watts per square meter (negative is a good thing).

 

“Our findings suggest that MCB may be quite effective for alleviating climate warming, although it would probably manifest as an increase in cloud cover rather than cloud opacity, as the MCB terminology implies,” the paper reads. “This best practice would be particularly effective in tropical oceans where incoming solar radiation is strong and background environment is clean (that is, clouds are more ‘pristine’).”

 

However, any kind of climate tool under the tech umbrella of “geoengineering” will draw some suspicion. Scientists, for example, aren’t sure how MCB could affect ocean circulation patterns, or if it could increase rainfall in some places while reducing it in others. But proponents emphasize that the world is already being geoengineered by human-created greenhouse gasses, and that the side effects of MCB could potentially be preferable to the the devastating costs of climate change.

 

There is one area of agreement between both camps—MCB isn’t a solution to climate change—but evidence is growing that it could be one way to lower the planet’s symptomatic fever while we attempt to treat the carbon-induced disease.

Facing NGC 1232

 

From our vantage point in the Milky Way Galaxy, we see NGC 1232 face-on. Nearly 200,000 light-years across, the big, beautiful spiral galaxy is located some 47 million light-years away in the flowing southern constellation of Eridanus. This sharp, multi-color, telescopic image of NGC 1232 includes remarkable details of the distant island universe. From the core outward, the galaxy's colors change from the yellowish light of old stars in the center to young blue star clusters and reddish star forming regions along the grand, sweeping spiral arms. NGC 1232's apparent, small, barred-spiral companion galaxy is cataloged as NGC 1232A. Distance estimates place it much farther though, around 300 million light-years away, and unlikely to be interacting with NGC 1232. Of course, the prominent bright star with the spiky appearance is much closer than NGC 1232 and lies well within our own Milky Way.

ROME (Reuters) - Italian police arrested a "most wanted" U.S. fugitive last week who was carrying three concealed knives in a crowded St Peter's Square outside the Vatican, a judicial source said on Thursday.

 

The fugitive, now in police custody, was named as Moises Tejada, who is classified as violent by the New York state prison service's investigations unit.

 

He is listed among the department's most wanted individuals.

 

The arrest was first reported by Italy's la Repubblica newspaper and confirmed by the source.

 

Tejada, whose name has the alternative spelling of Teiada, attracted the suspicion of police who detained him and found he was carrying knives that were 20 cm (8 inches) long.

 

St Peter's Square was busy with pilgrims and tourists as Pope Francis was holding a general audience that day, Wednesday April 10. It was not clear if Tejada, who has convictions for robbery and kidnapping, posed any threat to the pope.

 

Investigators have found that he had recently arrived in Rome from Moldova, having previously spent time in Ukraine.

 

He has told investigators he had been in Ukraine since 2022 fighting against the Russian invasion, la Repubblica reported.

 

The Italian authorities are waiting to hear if their U.S. counterparts want to extradite him.
