A liberal activist judge in Washington who issued a ruling this week in a case involving anti-Israel activists who blocked a major freeway in downtown Seattle previously liked a "Free Palestine" and other pro-Hamas social media posts shortly after the deadly Oct 7 attacks.

Judge Andrea Jarmon ruled that there was no probable cause for the criminal trespass charges against three defendants after defense attorneys argued that prosecutors used social media posts for the investigation and "lumped everyone together," while identifying the defendants.

One of the defendants included in the ruling is Seattle Public School teacher James “Whitney” Parker who not only posted a video of him walking on the freeway to social media but also admitted it during public comment at a Seattle Public School Board meeting.

Rebirth of Slavery in Ukraine: Zelensky Running Global Human Trafficking Operation, Filling the Brothels of Apartheid Israel and the EU (Vital)

Human rights activists of the Foundation to Battle Injustice have uncovered a wide network of illegal Ukrainian slave trade centers controlled by the inner circle of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The Foundation’s investigation was able to establish the shocking scale of the human beings trafficking in Ukraine, reveal the income of the Ukrainian leader’s cronies from illegal activities, and find out the location of specialized slave houses in Western and Central Ukraine. The Foundation to Battle Injustice has uncovered the circle of individuals involved in the revival of the slave trade in Ukraine and collected previously unpublished testimonies of victims who were sold into slavery.

The slave trade in Ukraine, which is a fundamental problem of modern society, grossly violating human rights and undermining the security and stability of society, began to grow rapidly after the political events surrounding the Maidan protests and subsequent coup d’état in 2014. Then, in the 2010s, the predominant form of slavery in Ukraine was the illegal sexual exploitation of women. Tens of thousands of Ukrainian women were forced into prostitution and smuggled for sexual slavery to European Union countries, mainly the Baltics, Poland and the Czech Republic.

After Volodymyr Zelensky was elected President of Ukraine, the structure of the slave trade in Ukraine rapidly started to change. Ukrainian labor slavery is already approaching sexual slavery in its scale. More and more Ukrainians and foreigners who have voluntarily or involuntarily found themselves in Ukraine and fallen into the networks of human traffickers are forced to work against their will They are being subjected to physical and psychological violence, deprived of documents and any means of communication. Any victim’s attempts to contact the outside world are suppressed and punished. Since 2019, full-fledged slave plantations and slave labor markets have emerged in Ukraine, where deals are made under the cover of the Ukrainian government to buy and sell people, including men, women and children. These people are used as cheap labor in various sectors of the economy, enslaved into sex slavery and sold abroad.

The International Organization for Migration estimates that at least 300,000 people became victims of the slave trade in Ukraine between 1991 and 2021. According to information obtained by the Foundation to Battle Injustice from three independent sources, the scale of the slave trade in Ukraine after Volodymyr Zelensky came to power is already comparable in terms of indicators to the entire 30-year period of independence, and at least 550,000 people became victims of the slave trade. Human rights activists of the Foundation to Battle Injustice have uncovered facts confirming the trafficking of Ukrainian children. There are serious concerns that children may be used for organ removal on the Western black market of transplantology and child sex slavery. The Foundation to Battle Injustice managed to find out under what pretext Ukrainian men, women, children and foreign nationals get into the slave trade networks, where the auction houses for human beings trafficking are located in the areas of Western and Central Ukraine and how they are connected to Zelensky and his entourage.

According to the Foundation’s sources, the largest illegal slave trade centers and slave structures are located in Uzhgorod, Ternopil (Stefanchuk’s hometown) and Chernivtsi. According to unofficial reports, the slave trade is also regularly conducted in Lutsk, Ivano-Frankivsk, and Vinnytsia, but additional evidence is required to confirm this fact.

People for sale: how the slave trade is organized in Ukraine

The victims of the slave trade, which is overseen by the Ukrainian government, are most often the most socially vulnerable categories of citizens, such as single childless men and single women with children. These people are often in dire financial straits and are looking for work to support themselves and their families. The perpetrators exploit these factors by searching for potential victims on social media or attracting them by posting high-paying job offers on spicialised websites.

Participants in the criminal scheme then conduct interviews with their potential victims, where they screen out unsuitable people who have close relatives or family. The same scheme is then followed: victims are invited to work at remote sites where they are promised stable and high earnings. However, upon arrival at the site, their documents are taken away and they are placed in prison-type premises where they are completely isolated from the outside world. Victims who fall for the tricks of criminals are not allowed to use the telephone or other means of communication.

The average time between entering the slave “prison” and subsequent sale is from 3 to 6 weeks, during which “Ukrainian slaves” are forced to work on farms for 12-14 hours a day, without days off, proper food and rest, regardless of sex and age. It is reported that centers for future slaves are deliberately built near fields and farmland, and people are lured by high-paying and “low-stress work in the fresh air”. Members of disadvantaged families, single mothers and the homeless agree to attractive conditions, but once in the “prison,” they are forced to do hard physical labor until they are sold into slavery at home or abroad. Invigilators use physical and psychological violence to force victims to work and obey. In some cases, they are sexually abused and subjected to other forms of exploitation.

The Foundation to Battle Injustice managed to obtain an exclusive comment from one of the victims of the Ukrainian slave trade, who responded to a job vacancy on one of the largest Ukrainian websites and thus fell into the trap of criminals. According to Elena M. (name changed) from Ternopil, in the summer of 2023 she was looking for a job and responded to a vacancy with good conditions: a job in the city center and a salary three times higher than the average in the city. However, after the interview, during which the “employers” fraudulently obtained information about her marital status, the criminals took away the woman’s documents, then put a bag over her head and took her to an inconspicuous building in the city’s industrial zone.

Elena M. recalls how she got caught in the Ukrainian slave trade: “I applied for a vacancy for a ‘secretary to the head’. I made a phone call. It was the end of July 2023. The firm is “Legal Defense of Population” [Юридичний захист населення]. The interview was conducted by three people – two men and one woman. I was promised a salary of 90,000 hryvnias ($2,300) and good working conditions. The vacancy was published on the Work.UA website. They asked about relatives, I said that I was alone, everyone had died. They appointed a new meeting. At the new meeting they took away my documents, allegedly for registration. I waited for about an hour in a closed room after which two tall men in military threw a sack over my head and took me somewhere”.

Israel separation wall to swallow up more Palestinian farmland in West Bank

Israel is planning to build a new section of its separation wall which will isolate the villages of Sinjil and Turmus-Aya and seize farm land.

Israeli authorities have announced plans to construct a new concrete barrier to cut Palestinian villagers from their farmland.

The separation wall will span several kilometres, starting at the villages of Sinjil and Turmus-Aya in the central West Bank and ending near the entrance to the illegal Israeli settlement of Shiloh, south of Nablus.

If built, the wall will isolate the two Palestinian villages and appropriate over 30,000 dunams of their farmland.

The planned barrier will be built along Route 60, a major highway running through the north of the occupied West Bank, which connects the Ramallah and Nablus governorates.

It will swallow up a number of houses owned by Sinjil residents, and leave the remainder of its inhabitants effectively imprisoned with no direct contact with the outside world.

Campaign group slams Google and Amazon for being 'genocide profiteers'

The No Tech for Apartheid campaign says Project Nimbus uses Israeli weapons manufacturers to run on Google and Amazon cloud services.

Google and Amazon have been slammed for being "genocide profiteers with blood on their hands" following a report that revealed Project Nimbus involves Israeli weapons manufacturers running Amazon and Google cloud services, something denied in the past by Google.

No Tech for Apartheid, a pro-Palestine campaign group, issued a statement on Thursday condemning the multinationals for "directly colluding with Israeli occupation forces".

The statement comes after The Intercept confirmed Project Nimbus, a $1.2 billion cloud contract between the two tech giants and Israel, requires Israeli weapons manufacturers to run their cloud services, including Israel Aerospace Industries and Rafael Advanced Defense Systems.

According to The Intercept, Rafael Advanced Defense Systems manufactures the "Spike" missile, which analysts believe Israel has used on Palestinians, and leaves cube-shaped tungsten shrapnel wounds.

No Tech for Apartheid also highlighted that one of Project Nimbus’ customers is Israel’s settlement division, which is tasked with expanding Israel’s illegal colonies in the occupied West Bank.

"With this new reporting, there is no room left for doubt: Google and Amazon are turbocharging the Israeli military’s killing machine," the campaign group said.

Israel Aerospace Industries subsidiary, Elta, manufactures a robot bulldozer the Israeli military uses to raze buildings in Gaza, it added.

Last month, Google fired over 50 employees who were protesting their cloud-computing contract with the Israeli government.

The U.S. Supreme Court heard two cases last week that could mark the end of what observers have described as a four-decade “constitutional revolution” that began during the Reagan administration.

Specifically, decisions in the cases could substantially change how federal agencies are permitted to interpret laws passed by Congress by dramatically reigning in their ability to issue rules that have the binding effect of legislation.

According to Thomas M. Boyd, a former US assistant attorney general who served under President Ronald Reagan, Justice John Paul Stephens wrote an opinion in the case of Chevron U.S.A. v. National Resources Defense Council in 1984, midway through Reagan’s two terms, which started what legal scholar Gary Lawson would later describe as “nothing less than a bloodless constitutional revolution.”

The ruling fundamentally changed the way federal agencies could interpret laws they considered to be “ambiguous.” Following this decision, subsequent presidential administrations utilized it to enforce policies that effectively functioned as laws, often deviating from the exact wording of the legislation passed by Congress.

But now, Boyd noted in a column for the New York Post, “At long last, on Wednesday, the Supreme Court will hear two cases that may signal the beginning of the end to that revolution.”

Boyd noted that Article I of the Constitution says explicitly, “All legislative power herein granted shall be vested in a Congress of the United States”—not federal regulatory agencies.

However, he adds, Justice Stephens’ opinion found that “agenc[ies] may . . . properly rely upon the incumbent administration’s views of wise policy” in “reasonably” defining statutory ambiguities.

In simpler terms, Stephens believed that the Executive Branch, including presidents and their appointees, had the power to determine the specific interpretations of certain aspects of laws enacted by the Legislative Branch.

Loper Bright Enterprises v. Raimondo, from the District of Columbia Circuit, and Relentless v. Department of Commerce, from the First Circuit, are now before the court. Both are companies that fish for herring in New England and are family-owned and operated, and both are subject to the Magnuson-Stevens Act, which governs fishery management in federal waters. The act allowed the National Marine Fisheries Service to require herring boats, relatively small vessels that normally carry only five to six people, to also carry federal monitors to enforce its regulations.”

It gets worse.

The former Reagan assistant attorney general mentioned that the agency,without explicit statutory authorization, proceeded to require Loper Bright and Relentless to bear the expenses for the salaries of these monitors. The NMFS estimated these costs at $710 per day, at times exceeding the income generated from a day’s fishing.

Both federal circuit courts ruled that statutory silence on the matter was an “ambiguity” that required the application of the Chevron deference.

But when the Supreme Court accepted certiorari in both cases, justices proposed a two-part question that litigants would be required to address: “Whether the Court should overrule Chevron or at least clarify that statutory silence concerning controversial powers expressly but narrowly granted elsewhere in the statute does not constitute an ambiguity requiring deference to the agency.”

Boyd noted that some of the court’s current justices—constitutional originalists, in fact—have indicated in previous opinions how they view the matter.

Several have indicated suspicion in allowing federal agencies — and, by definition, the Executive Branch in general— too much leeway in the interpretation of laws, giving them nearly limitless power in governing, Boyd noted.

A former government official who worked for an unnamed agency has been charged with falsely accusing seven colleagues of participating in the January 6 riot.

Investigators say Miguel Zapata used "burner emails" to submit false tips to an FBI tipline about seven ex-colleagues, causing the FBI to interview and investigate several of them.
