Wow.

 

After decades of Dr. Stanley Plotkin and his vaccinologist disciples insisting vaccines are the most well studied products on the planet, they just penned an article admitting precisely the opposite.

 

They just admitted vaccines are not properly studied—neither pre-licensure nor post-licensure. They admitted, for example, “prelicensure clinical trials have limited sample sizes [and] follow-up durations” and that “there are not resources earmarked for postauthorization safety studies.”

 

That is an incredible reversal. But let me provide context so nobody is fooled at what they are clearly up to:

 

For decades, the medical community insisted vaccines are the most thoroughly studied product ever; for example, Dr. Paul Offit said, "I think we should be proud of vaccines as arguably the safest, best tested things we put in our body.”

 

For decades, parents of vaccine injured children, vaccine injured adults, and other stakeholders contested these claims only to be shunned and attacked by the medical community and health agencies.

 

In 2018, I had the unprecedented opportunity todeposethe architect of our vaccination program and the Godfather of Vaccinology, Dr. [Stanley] Plotkin, and lay bare the evidence that showed what these authors are now finally admitting about the utter lack of vaccine safety trials and studies. After this deposition is made public, Dr. Plotkin goes on a tirade, making demands that FDA add “missing information on safety and efficacy” in vaccine package inserts and that CDC exclude harms from its Vaccine Information Sheets, “lobbying the Gates Foundation to support pro-vaccine organizations,” working to have WHO list vaccine hesitancy as a global threat, lobbying AAP, IDSA and PIDS to “support training of witnesses” to support vaccine safety, etc. See https://icandecide.org/article/dr-stanley-plotkin-the-godfather-of-vaccines-reaction-to-being-questioned/.

 

The problem is, it doesn't work. It doesn’t work because, at bottom, there are no proper safety studies. So, there is no safety data to add to the FDA package inserts, and hiding harms by removing them from CDC inserts doesn’t make them go away. Parents and other adults don’t simply stop believing what they have seen with their own eyes because CDC, WHO, the Gates Foundations, etc., won’t acknowledge them, or worse, they attack them.

 

That brings us to the present in which Plotkin and his disciples realize they can’t cast voodoo on the public. They can’t hide the truth. So, their only option is to try and co-op the truth they have lied about for decades by now admitting that the studies to show vaccines are safe do not exist. But in making that admission, they conveniently fail to admit that for decades they lied, gaslit, defrauded (and I don’t use that word lightly) the public by claiming that vaccines are probably the most thoroughly safety tested products on the planet and that people should rest assured, no stone on vaccine safety was left unturned.

 

Thus, in their article just published, they pretend they never lied about vaccine safety. They pretend they are now just pointing out vaccine safety has never really been conducted, as if that was not known to them before.

 

Don’t be fooled. Their real agenda is plain, and it is not to study vaccine safety, but rather to confirm that which they already believe. This is crystal clear from the fact that, while their article admits the studies have not been done, they write in the same breath that serious vaccine harms are “rare.” But if the studies have not been done, how do they know that? The answer is, they don’t, and they don’t care to know the truth. Their goal is to protect the products they have spent their careers defending and worshipping and that have brought them fame and riches.

 

They also ignore the mountain of studies and data which already exist that clearly show serious vaccine harms.Just take a moment to review the large body of science around one of the adjuvants used in vaccines which multiple studies show can cause serious harm. Finally, just look at their proposed solution. After making the a priori conclusion that harms are “rare,” ignoring all the existing studies showing harm,these folk have the audacity to want to raid the federal vaccine injury compensation fund to presumably pay themselves and their compatriots hundreds of millions of dollars to conduct the studies that would, no doubt, seek to confirm their prior conclusion that vaccine harms are “rare,” while ignoring the studies that already show serious harm.

So, with that in mind, and sorry for the long wind-up, here are the things they admit in this article for maybe the very first time:

 

“[T]he widespread vaccine hesitancy observed during the Covid-19 pandemic suggests that the public is no longer satisfied with the traditional safety goal of simply detecting and quantifying the associated risks after a vaccine has been authorized for use.”

 

Comment: The parents of vaccine injured children, vaccine injured adults, and others were never “satisfied” with seeking to assess “risks after a vaccine has been authorized.”

 

“Postauthorization studies are needed to fully characterize the safety profile of a new vaccine, since prelicensure clinical trials have limited sample sizes, follow up durations, and population heterogeneity.”

 

Comment: Let me translate: the clinical trials relied upon to license childhood vaccines are useless with regard to safety since they virtually never have a placebo control, typically review safety for days or weeks after injection, and often have far too few participants to measure anything of value, just see www.icandecide.org/no-placebo; amazingly, I just had a dispute with a Plotkin disciple not long ago in which they were clearly still not ready to admit the above truth https://x.com/AaronSiriSG/status/1673483027618623489.

 

“It is critical to examine adverse events following immunization (AEFIs) that have not been detected in clinical trials, to ascertain whether they are causally or coincidentally related to vaccination.”

 

Comment: No shit and you have been claiming for decades this was being done!

 

“When they are caused by vaccines (vaccine adverse reactions), the risk attributable to vaccination and the biologic mechanism must be ascertained. That science becomes the basis for developing safer vaccines, if possible, and for determining contraindications to vaccination and the compensation that should be offered for AEFIs.”

 

Comment: Again, no shit, and you have also been claiming for decades this was being done!

 

“Currently in the United States, when the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) recommends a new routine vaccine, the only automatic statutory resource allocations that follow are for vaccine procurement by Vaccines for Children (VFC) and for the Vaccine Injury Compensation Program (VICP). Although the ACIP acknowledges the need, there are currently no resources earmarked for postauthorization safety studies beyond annual appropriations, which must be approved by Congress each year.”

Comment: Again, shameless to pretend parent groups have not been yelling about this issue for decades only to be ignored and attacked.

Comment: They have always been given to millions or billions of people, and the studies showing the harms they cause are not rare and they already exist, but you don’t really care about that reality as vaccine safety is not really the goal.

 

If they are really interested in the truth about what injuries vaccines cause and the rate at which these injuries occur, then they should welcome convening a bipartisan panel which could first review all the very concerning studies and hard data that already exists on this topic (often by scientists not on pharma’s doll) and we could design additional studies together and have them run in the open so everybody has to live with the result.

 

(Among other reasons to demand the study be conducted in the open is that I have witnesses firsthand what happens when a study comparing vaccinated and unvaccinated children in large multi-million person datasets, using historical insurance data, showed vaccinated children had multiple times the rate of numerous chronic diseases – the study gets buried hence the need to do it in the open.)

 

Plotkin and company should welcome studies which can show vaccines have not contributed to the rise in chronic childhood disease (many of which are immune mediated diseases) from 12% of children in the early 1980s (when CDC recommended 7 routine childhood injections) to over 50% of children now (when CDC recommends over 90 routine childhood injections).

 

And I think they do welcome such studies if they can assure that the outcome would show vaccines do not cause these harms. Alas, the reality is that (as they know) studies showing vaccines contribute to this rise already exist. But their goal, in any event, is not to really study safety. Rather it is to prove their prior assumption that vaccines are safe and harms are “rare.” This approach is how they designed VAERS, V-SAFE, VSD, and every other “safety” system.

 

As is transparent from their article, the only reason they even pretend to care about vaccine safety is that they want to avoid reduction in vaccine uptake – not actually assure safety.

 

That all said, if they are really well-meaning, I would welcome collaborating. To be fair, I will email all four of them to request a meeting to review existing science and design studies mutually agreed upon. If they are really interested in vaccine safety, they should welcome that (I have no hard feelings despite their attacks on me and I hope they can rise above any hard feelings they have for the sake of protecting children). Most importantly, I'm willing to live with the results of those studies. Are they?

BREAKING: AT&T has announced that the company believes a hacker stole records of calls and texts from nearly all of AT&T’s wireless customers, according to a financial filing from the company.

 

“The data does not contain the content of calls or texts, personal information such as Social Security numbers, dates of birth, or other personally identifiable information,” AT&T said in their statement released early Friday morning. “These records identify the telephone numbers with which an AT&T or MVNO wireless number interacted during these periods, including telephone numbers of AT&T wireline customers and customers of other carriers, counts of those interactions, and aggregate call duration for a day or month.”

 

AT&T says it has taken “additional cybersecurity measures” in response to this incident including closing off the point of unlawful access.

 

AT&T confirmed that it will provide notice to its current and former impacted customers.

The survey, which is being conducted this week and was commissioned by the Biden campaign’s analytics team, is believed to be the first time since the debate that Mr. Biden’s aides have sought to measure how the vice president would fare at the top of the ticket. It was described by three people who are informed about it and insisted on anonymity because of the sensitive nature of the information. They did not specify why the survey was being conducted or what the campaign planned to do with the results.

 

The effort, which comes as a growing number of prominent lawmakers call for Mr. Biden to step aside or suggest he should reconsider his plans to run, indicates that his campaign may be preparing to wade into a debate that has consumed the Democratic Party behind closed doors: whether Mr. Biden should step aside for his vice president.

 

While some of Mr. Biden’s top aides have quietly argued that Ms. Harris could not win the election, donors and other outside supporters of the vice president believe she might be in a stronger position after the debate, and could be a more energetic communicator of the party’s message.

 

In memo to campaign staff on Thursday, Mr. Biden’s campaign chair, Jennifer O’Malley Dillon, and his campaign manager, Julie Chavez Rodriguez, wrote about the “path ahead.”

 

“In addition to what we believe is a clear pathway ahead for us,there is also no indication that anyone else would outperform the president vs. Trump,” they wrote. “Hypothetical polling of alternative nominees will always be unreliable, and surveys do not take into account the negative media environment that any Democratic nominee will encounter. The only Democratic candidate for whom this is already baked in is President Biden.”

 

The memo also appeared to acknowledge an erosion of Mr. Biden’s support.

 

“The movement we have seen, while real, is not a sea-change in the state of the race,” the memo says.

 

As the White House and the Biden campaign try to project a unified front, some of their supporters are engaged in a tough assessment of who should top the ticket.

 

Mr. Biden’s political future will be determined in part by his performance during Thursday’s news conference at the NATO summit in Washington at 6:30 p.m., which party lawmakers, officials and donors have said they will closely monitor. It will be his longest unscripted appearance since the faltering debate performance two weeks ago.

There is ample evidence to show that routine childhood vaccines cause sudden infant death syndrome, or SIDS, and have done so for decades. Yet that evidence is ignored or suppressed.

 

In 2011, Dr. Raymond Obomsawin gave a lecture during which he provided several scientific studies to show the harm, including sudden death, that childhood vaccines are causing.

 

Dr. Obomsawin believed that most cases of shaken baby syndrome are also caused by childhood vaccines. “We see this epidemic of accusations against parents, and there are large numbers of people now in prison, in which they’re claiming they shook their babies and killed them. Most of these parents loved their children and I believe didn’t do it,” he said.

Project 2025, the Heritage Foundation-led initiative for the next conservative president to follow to transform the federal government, has received growing attention in the lead-up to the 2024 presidential election. Some of the plan’s goals would be to fire thousands of federal workers and replace them with conservatives, abolish the Department of Education and eliminate federal funding for abortion providers.

 

The Adolph Coors Foundation, Walton Family Foundation and ExxonMobil Foundation have all donated to the Heritage Foundation in the past. However, only the Adolph Coors Foundation has donated to the organization since the think tank publicly announced Project 2025.

 

 

The Adolph Coors Foundation names the Heritage Foundation as one of the organization’s “featured projects” on its website. The Adolph Coors Foundation notes that Joseph Coors was one of the Heritage Foundation’s founders.

 

The 2023 grant list for the Walton Family Foundation isn’t yet available. However, neither the organization’s 2022 grant list or its 2022 tax forms indicate any donations to the Heritage Foundation.

 

The Walton Family Foundation’s website says the organization donated to the Heritage Foundation almost every year between 1992 and 2018.

 

Each year, ExxonMobil releases its “Worldwide Giving Report” that lists the organizations the corporation donates to through the ExxonMobil Foundation. The 2022 report, its most recent, includes a list of think tanks, public information and policy research organizations to which the ExxonMobil Foundation has granted money. The Heritage Foundation is not included in that list.

 

ExxonMobil’s 2012 Worldwide Giving Report shows the company’s foundation gave to significantly more think tanks and similar organizations that year, including a $50,000 donation to the Heritage Foundation.

 

The Heritage Foundation did not appear in ExxonMobil’s giving reports from 2017 to 2022.

 

While it’s possible members of the Walton family and executives at ExxonMobil have made their own donations separate from the broader charitable organizations, there is no obligation for individuals to reveal their donations to the public.

Senate Committee Votes Against Biden-Nominated Judge Who Allowed Male Rapist In Female Prison

The Senate Judiciary Committee voted on Thursday against a judicial nominee who had allowed a male serial rapist, who identifies as a woman, to be housed in a female prison.

 

President Joe Biden nominated Sarah Netburn to the U.S. District Courtfor the Southern District of New York, but the nomination wasblocked by the Senate Judiciary Committee in a 10-11 vote. In August 2022, Netburn recommended the transfer of male inmate William McClain, who goes by July Justine Shelby, into a female prison despite his record of sex crimes, according to the Washington Free Beacon.

 

Democratic Sen. Jon Ossoff of Georgia broke away from his fellow Democrats to vote against Netburn.

 

“So you took a six-foot-two serial rapist, serial child rapist, with male genitalia, and he said ‘You know, I’d like to be in a women’s prison,” Republican Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas said during a committee hearing on Netburn’s judicial confirmation in May. “And your answer was, ‘That sounds great to me.’”

 

McClain was convicted in 1994 of molesting a 9-year old boy and raping a 17-year old girl, the Beacon reported. McClain was released in 2015, then was later sentenced in 2017 for distributing child pornography.

 

McClain has reportedly sexually harassed female inmates in the women’s prison, the Beacon reported.

 

Federal prison officials objected to the transfer, butNetburn claimed that concerns about the transfer being “traumatizing and possibly dangerous” were “overblown,” the Beacon reported.

 

When confronted by Cruz during the committee hearing, Netburn referred to the male defendant as a “she” and said that “every person who is incarcerated has a right to feel safe in their space.”

 

“It is clear, on your record, your political ideology matters a heck of a lot more than the rights of those women that you endangered,” Cruz said during the committee hearing. “I think you’re a radical. I think you have no business being a judge.”

Trans inmate serving life for killing parents goes on hunger strike to protest being removed from women's prison for having sex with female inmate in Washington

Washington State’s prison officials removed Bryan Kim, a trans-identifying male sentenced for murder from the women’s prison and transferred Kim back to a men’s prison after Kim was caught having sex with a female inmate.Kim went on a hunger strike to protest the move and this marks the first time the agency has removed a transgender person from “gender-affirming” housing.

 

On March 14, 35-year-old Bryan Kim, who now goes by Amber FayeFox Kim, was busted having sex with 25-year-old Sincer-A Marie Nerton at the Washington Corrections Center for Women (WCCW).

 

According to the Spokesman-Review, Kim was convicted in 2008 on two counts ofaggravated first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison for fatally stabbing father Richard Kim, and bludgeoning and strangling mother, Terri Kim in their Mount Spokane home in 2006. After the murders, Kim attempted to clean the crime scene and conceal the parents' bodies. The following day Kim went shopping and used the father's debit card to withdraw $1,000, according to the Daily Mail.

 

Kim was originally housed at a men's facility but was transferred to a women’s facility in Purdy, Wash. in February 2021 under the state Department of Correction's gender-inclusion policy, which was approved by Washington's Democratic Governor Jay Inslee. The policy allows male convicts to be admitted to the female facility if their gender-dysphoria diagnosis is accepted by an administrative panel.

 

According to National Review, a corrections officer found Kim “laying on the floor completely nude from the waist down with their cellmate Nerton Sincer-A on top of them also nude from the waist down actively having sex.”

 

The report obtained by the outlet stated, “I/I [Incarcerated Individual] Kim's hands were on I/I Nerton's buttox in a spread open position while I/I Kim's erect penis was penetrating I/I Nerton's vagina.” Engaging in a sex act with another person within the facility is against the facility’s rules “except in an approved extended family visit.”

 

Following Kim's transfer to the women’s facility, in December 2021 reports surfaced of complaints by women inmates of sexual exploitation by male inmates who identified as female.One woman told the outlet of numerous cases of sexual assault by convicted transgender felons.

 

One inmate, known as Jonathan or Jazzy, received multiple complaints from female inmates of grooming, making persistent sexual advances, and committing sexual assault, including one incident where a female prisoner woke up to find Jazzy with an erection touching her inappropriately.

 

Purdy officials have denied having any such complaints on file. However, according to heavily redacted documents obtained through a Public Disclosure Request by The Ari Hoffman Show on Talk Radio 570 KVI, there are approximately 62 trans-identifying males prisoners in Washington. As of October 2023, trans-identifying males account for approximately 0.5 percent of the prisoner population. According to the documents, some of the crimes that landed them in jail included rape, rape of a child, viewing and dealing child pornography. In the documents were also multiple substantiated instances of "inmate-on-inmate sexual harassment."

 

Despite the convictions for murder, rape, child rape, and child exploitation, the Huffington Post published an article sympathetic towards Kim and other trans-identifying males titled: Inside The Brutal Struggle For Trans Care In Prison.

 

Not to be outdone, Seattle’s far-left outlet The Stranger published an article portraying Kim as a hero to the trans community for going on a hunger strike to protest being moved to the men’s prison. The outlet didn’t even mention Kim’s crime or life sentence until the second to last paragraph of the more than 1,700-word article.

Mrs Watanabe will not be best pleased again this morning as it appears - having dumped billions of dollars into the FX markets overnight to try and maintain the momentum higher in yen - the Bank of Japan is 'intervening' in the currency markets. USDJPY just puked almost two big figures after the hotter than expected PPI print. Comments overnight from Japan’s top currency official, Masato Kanda, who stuck with a strategy of trying to keep market players guessing, prompted a spike lower also but that failed very fast. He told reporters in Tokyo on Thursday night that he wasn’t in a position to say if the move was intervention. “Our practice is basically not to say whether we have intervened or not,” he said Thursday. “While some believe the move was a reaction to the CPI results, others say that other forces may have been at work.”

He followed up with comments early Friday, saying that given the yield gap between the US and Japan, speculation was probably behind the moves.

TV Asahi, a Japanese broadcaster, reported officials had stepped into the currency market.

Daily newspaper Mainichi Shimbun also reported an intervention, citing an unidentified Japan government official. More problematically, according to a Bloomberg analysis of central bank accounts, the scale of intervention was probably around ¥3.5 trillion ($22 billion), based on a comparison of Bank of Japan accounts and money broker forecasts.

“Right now we are seeing two-way activity in the market but no clear directional bias,” said Ruchir Sharma, London-based global head of FX option trading at Nomura International Plc.

Sharma added that there was “palpable nervousness in the market” in recent sessions from hedge funds looking to protect carry trades for scenarios like the one that just played out.

The spike on Thursday shared similarities with this year’s previous interventions, in which the Ministry of Finance bought ¥9.8 trillion to stem losses in apparent moves on April 29 and May 1. The yen’s Thursday rally was the biggest on a one-day basis since May 1.

Not much bang for their buck and the PPI 'beat' ruined the momentum this morning, with USDJPY stalling at yesterday's lows.

“Certainly the extent of the move does suggest it could well have been intervention,” said Jane Foley, head of currency strategy at Rabobank.

“It’s quite exciting and does cause ripples on our trading desk.”

However, the lack of follow-through makes us wonder if the BoJ running out of ammo (or fortitude) to maintain any control of its currency?

Artist’s Monument to Women Beheaded at University of Houston

Artist Shahzia Sikander’s monumental sculpture “Witness” (2023) was beheaded in the early hours of Monday morning, July 8, on the grounds of the University of Houston campus.

 

The 18-foot-tall sculpture depicting a female figure in a hoop skirt and jabot with braided hair shaped into ram horns and vine-like appendages was installed for a temporary exhibition at the university earlier this year. In February, anti-abortion groups denounced the Pakistani-American artist’s work as a “satanic abortion idol” and threatened to protest the display, resulting in the university’s decision to cancel Sikander’s campus lecture for the opening reception.

 

“Witness” was vandalized as Hurricane Beryl made landfall along the Texas coast, causing power outages and damages across the campus and city, said Shawn Lindsey, associate vice president of Media Relations for the University of Houston.

 

“The damage is believed to be intentional. The University of Houston Police Department is currently investigating the matter,” Lindsey told Hyperallergic. “Conservators have also been called in to advise on the necessary repairs. We have been in contact with the artist to repair the artwork as quickly as possible.”

 

The sculpture’s head is in the university’s possession, a spokesperson confirmed.

 

Sikander has not yet responded to Hyperallergic’s request for comment.

 

“Witness” is among three works included in Sikander’s 2023 project Havah … to breathe, air, life, co-commissioned by the Public Art University of Houston System and the Madison Square Park Conservancy, and initially displayed at the park in Manhattan’s Flatiron District.

 

Referencing the overturning of Roe v. Wade, and the death of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Sikander said in her statement about the project that she sought to capture the “spirit and grit” of the women fighting to maintain rights over their bodies. She added that the works “demand a reimagining of the feminine not simply as Lady Justice with her scale, but of the female as an active agency, a thinker, a participant as well as a witness to the patriarchal history of art and law.”

 

“We anticipated that on a university campus, a center of learning, there would be important dialogue around ‘Witness’ and the artist’s practice. We did not anticipate this extreme, violent act,” Brooke Kamin Rapaport, the Conservancy’s artistic director and chief curator, told Hyperallergic.

 

Earlier this month, an artist’s sculpture of the Virgin Mary on view in an Austrian cathedral was also beheaded by an unknown vandalfollowing protests by conservative religious groups who viewed the artwork as “blasphemous.”

FIRST ON FOX: House lawmakers are urging the Biden administration to do more to push back against countries,including China, who fail to take back their illegal immigrantsamid an influx of nationals across the southern border.

 

The 14 Republican lawmakers, led by Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas, are raising concerns about the record number of Chinese migrants that have flooded across the U.S. border in recent months, and that it is one of a number of "recalcitrant" countries who fail or who are uncooperative in taking back their illegal immigrants.

 

"This is concerning as China and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) pose grave threats to the United States’ economic and national security. In fact, China is one of 13 countries considered uncooperative or "recalcitrant," systematically refusing or needlessly delaying the repatriation of their citizens," they say in a letter to Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

 

Fiscal Year 2023 set a record for the number of Chinese nationals coming across the border, with 24,314 nationals. With FY 24 still not finished, that mark has already been surpassed. It has raised a number of national security concerns, with lawmakers and officials warning that it could open the door to Chinese espionage.

 

Recently, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) touted a new charter flight of Chinese nationals, which it says was the first large charter flight since 2018. The lawmakers cite reports that fewer than 150 illegal immigrants were on the flight, while only 288 Chinese nationals were removed in FY 2023, only a small fraction of the tens of thousands coming across.

 

DHS said that the flight was the result of efforts by Mayorkas to engage China "on areas of mutual interest" and the countries are working to reduce illegal immigration and disrupt smuggling.

 

"We will continue to enforce our immigration laws and remove individuals without a legal basis to remain in the United States," Mayorkas said in a statement announcing the flights. "People should not believe the lies of smugglers."

 

The lawmakers note that federal law allows for the administration to stop granting visas to a recalcitrant country until they begin accepting their nationals back to the U.S., but in some cases existing visa sanctions have been lifted, namely for Laos.

 

"Ensuring a timely return of removable aliens should be a priority for the administration. The administration should ensure every country accepts all its repatriated citizens, with no exceptions," they say.

 

The lawmakers are requesting the names of all the countries currently deemed recalcitrant, how many aliens are in the U.S. from those countries, and how many have criminal records.

 

They are also asking for any visa sanctions that have been imposed on them, including on China, since 2021.

Planetary nebula Jones-Emberson 1 is the death shroud of a dying Sun-like star. It lies some 1,600 light-years from Earth toward the sharp-eyed constellation Lynx. About 4 light-years across, the expanding remnant of the dying star's atmosphere was shrugged off into interstellar space, as the star's central supply of hydrogen and then helium for fusion was depleted after billions of years. Visible near the center of the planetary nebula is what remains of the stellar core, a blue-hot white dwarf star. Also known as PK 164 +31.1, the nebula is faint and very difficult to glimpse at a telescope's eyepiece. But this deep image combining over 12 hours of exposure time does show it off in exceptional detail. Stars within our own Milky Way galaxy as well as background galaxies across the universe are scattered through the clear field of view. Ephemeral on the cosmic stage, Jones-Emberson 1 will fade away over the next few thousand years. Its hot, central white dwarf star will take billions of years to cool.

UN shown ‘drone evidence’ of Ukrainian attack on Europe’s largest nuclear plant

Moscow has rejected a resolution demanding the return of the Zaporozhye NPP to Kiev’s control

 

Russia has urged the UN not to support Ukraine’s claims to the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant, the largest such facility in Europe, accusing Kiev of launching strikes that frequently jeopardize the safety of the plant.

 

Speaking at a UN General Assembly meeting on Thursday, Russia’s deputy representative to the organization, Dmitry Polyansky, displayed a Ukrainian drone that allegedly hit the plant earlier this year. He said that attacks on the station by Kiev’s forces are “regular and numerous.”

 

“The IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi formulated [principles] for ensuring safety at the Zaporozhye NPP,” Polyansky said, referring to the UN’s nuclear watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency.

 

“One of these principles – the prohibition of attacks on the plant – is regularly violated by Ukraine, as the agency experts at the [site] have the opportunity to verify. There is enough evidence of this – I have in my hands the wreckage of a Ukrainian UAV that attacked the Zaporozhye NPP on April 7,” the Russian diplomat stated.

 

Polyansky urged the assembly not to support the Kiev-pitched resolution, which demands the return of the plant to Ukraine’s control and the withdrawal of Russian troops and personnel from the site. The aim of the resolution is “to try to promote the false Western narrative about the source of threats to nuclear facilities in Ukraine,” the Russian diplomat argued.

 

“If Kiev were truly interested in ensuring nuclear security, it would not regularly carry out reckless attacks on the Zaporozhye NPP… This is the only real threat to nuclear facilities in Ukraine that exists today,” Polyansky stated.He claimed that by calling for Russia to abandon the plant, Kiev’s Western backers are simply trying to “smuggle in their own political agenda” unrelated to the facility’s safety.

 

The Zaporozhye NPP has been targeted multiple times since Russia took control of the plant in the early weeks of the Ukraine conflict. Kiev considers the facility to be illegally occupied, but has staunchly denied attacking it, placing the blame on Russia. Zaporozhye Region is among four former Ukrainian territories which voted to join Russia in 2022.

 

The IAEA maintains an observer mission at the site and has condemned the strikes on the station, but has declined to attribute blame for them, arguing that “indisputable evidence” is needed to establish who is responsible.

 

The 193-member UN General Assembly on Thursday adopted the resolution supporting Kiev’s claims to the plant with 99 votes in favor, nine against, and 60 abstentions.However, the resolution is not legally binding.

NASA Remembers Retired Astronaut, US Air Force Pilot Joe Engle

Retired NASA astronaut and U.S. Air Force Maj. Gen. Joe Engle died July 10, surrounded by his family at home in Houston.

Among his many honors, he is the only astronaut to pilot both the X-15 and space shuttle. He was 91.

Engle became an astronaut at age 32 while flying the X-15 for the U.S. Air Force, becoming the youngest pilot ever to qualify as an astronaut.

When selected as a NASA astronaut candidate in 1966, he was the only person selected that was already engaged in spaceflight operations. He was the last surviving X-15 pilot.

 

“A natural pilot, Gen. Joe Engle helped humanity’s dreams take flight – in the X-15 program, the Apollo Program, and as one of the first commanders in the Space Shuttle Program,” said NASA Administrator Bill Nelson.

“He was one of the first astronauts I met at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston. I’ll never forget his big smile, his warmth, and his courage. We all will miss him.”

 

Engle was born in Dickinson County, Kansas, and attended the University of Kansas, Lawrence, where he graduated with a degree in Aeronautical Engineering in 1955.

He received his commission through the Air Force Reserve Officers Training Course, earning his pilot wings in 1958.

 

As a NASA astronaut, he supported the Apollo Program, and was backup lunar module pilot for Apollo 14.

In 1977, he served as commander of the space shuttle Enterprise, which used a modified Boeing 747 shuttle carrier aircraft to release Enterprise for approach and landing tests.

In November 1981, he commanded the second flight of the space shuttle Columbia. He was the first and only pilot to manually fly an aerospace vehicle from Mach 25 to landing.

He accumulated the last of his 224 hours in space when he commanded the space shuttle Discovery in August 1985, one of the most challenging shuttle missions ever.

On that mission the crew deployed three commercial satellites and retrieved, repaired, and redeployed another malfunctioning satellite that had been launched on a previous shuttle mission.

 

“As we mourn the immense loss of Joe, we’re thankful for his notable contributions to the advancement of human spaceflight,” said Vanessa Wyche, center director, NASA Johnson.

“Joe’s accomplishments and legacy of perseverance will continue to inspire and impact generations of explorers for years to come.”

 

Engle flew more than 180 different aircraft types and logged more than 14,000 flight hours.

His military decorations include the Department of Defense Distinguished Service Medal, U.S. Air Force Distinguished Service Medal, and the Air Force Distinguished Flying Cross with Oak Leaf Cluster. He has received the NASA Distinguished Service Medal and Space Flight Medal, as well as the Harmon International Aviation Trophy, the Collier Trophy, the Goddard Space Trophy, the Gen.

 

Thomas D. White Space Trophy, and the Kinchelow Experimental Test Pilot’s Trophy. In 1992, he was inducted into the Aerospace Walk of Honor.

“Joe Henry was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Blessed with natural piloting skills, General Joe, as he was known to many, was at his happiest in any cockpit.

Always with a smile, he lived a fulfilled life as a proud American, U.S. Air Force pilot, astronaut, and Kansas Jayhawk,” said his wife, Jeanie Engle.

“His passing leaves a tremendous loss in our hearts. We take comfort that he has joined Tom Stafford and George Abbey, two of the best friends anyone could ask for.”

Ukraine’s Vladimir Zelensky on Thursday lashed out at Kiev’s foreign backers for their reluctance to lift the remaining limitations on the use of Western-supplied weapons for long-range strikes inside Russia.

 

Kiev already has the greenlight from several Western states to hit “legitimate” targets inside Russia with their weapons, as well as a concession from Washington to strike beyond Russia’s border near the city of Kharkov. However, Zelensky has been pushing for the strike range to be extended – a prospect Moscow has warned would constitute an escalation of the conflict.

 

Speaking at a press conference at the NATO summit in Washington, Zelensky claimed that allowing Kiev to launch unlimited long-range strikes inside Russia is crucial for “having Ukraine on the map” and not allowing Moscow to “attack half of the planet.”

 

“If we want to win, if we want to prevail, if we want to save our country and to defend it, we need to lift all the limitations,” Zelensky stated. He cited week’s tragedy at the Okhmatdet children’s hospital in Kiev, which Ukraine has claimed was hit by a Russian missile. Moscow has insisted that the facility was hit by a Ukrainian air-defense missile.

 

“That is a crazy question why we can’t answer and attack these… military bases from where these guided bombs from jets or missiles came, targeted us and killed our children,” Zelensky argued.

 

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Wednesday that Kiev is deliberately using tragedies in its PR campaigns ahead of important international events to demand more support from the West. Russia’s ambassador to the US, Anatoly Antonov, claimed that Kiev’s Western supporters saw the hospital tragedy as a “perfect gift” to justify escalation of the conflict.

 

US President Joe Biden on Thursday reaffirmed the limits on how Ukraine can use American-supplied weapons, arguing that it “wouldn’t make sense” to allow Zelensky to strike deep inside Russia.

 

“We have allowed Zelensky to use American weapons in the near border regions of Russia. If he had the opportunity to strike Moscow, strike the Kremlin, would that make sense?No, it wouldn’t,” Biden said at a press briefing in Washington.

 

The UK, which has a ban on using its long-range Storm Shadow missiles to hit targets deep inside Russia, has also apparently distanced itself from earlier statements by Prime Minister Keir Starmer. The premier on Wednesday signaled he was loosening restrictions on how the missiles are used, saying “it is for Ukraine to decide how to deploy [them].”However, according to a report by The Telegraph citing Downing Street, UK government policy “had not changed” regarding the deployment of the long-range missiles, and the limitations remain in place.

Kiev’s backers are concerned about growing public discontent with Vladimir Zelensky in Ukraine, an SVR agent has claimed

 

Ukraine’s Western backers have stepped up efforts to find a replacement for Vladimir Zelensky, an operative with Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) has claimed in a declassified report. The document was published in the latest issue of the SVR’s Razvedchik (‘Scout’) magazine.

 

According to an operative using the pseudonym ‘Stone’, the US and EU are “extremely concerned” by “growing discontent” among Ukraine’s population over the protracted conflict and the current leadership’s inability to end it, especially after the expiration of Zelensky’s presidential term last May.

 

While Western powers will tolerate Zelensky for now since he is “linked to war financing schemes that bring enormous income to both the Kiev regime and Western arms manufacturers,” Stone claimed they had stepped up efforts to find a suitable replacement.

 

According to the operative, the West has already reached out to former Ukrainian president Petro Poroshenko and Kiev Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko, as well as Zelensky’s chief of staff Andrey Yermak, previously described by The Times as Ukraine’s de facto ruler. The countrty’s former top military commander General Valery Zaluzhny and the ex-speaker of the Ukrainian parliament, Dmitry Razumkov, are also on the list of potential Zelensky replacements, Stone claimed.

 

“It is assumed that these persons may be in demand in the event of a sharp deterioration of the situation on the front line and the need for an urgent change of leadership. Then it will be possible to choose one of them, blaming all the failures on Zelensky,” the operative stated.

 

He added that, for the US and EU, the focal point in dealing with Kiev’s leadership is currently “to prevent a critical increase in disappointment among Ukrainians with the failures of pro-Western policies.”

 

While Zelensky’s legal claim to office has been in dispute since the end of May, he has ruled out holding presidential elections, citing martial law. Russian President Vladimir Putin last month predicted that Ukraine’s Western backers would remove Zelensky from power once he has pushed through all necessary “unpopular decisions,” which could be as early as next year. At a press conference during a visit to Vietnam, Putin said Zelensky only remains in power because he has not yet outlived his usefulness.

Scientists design spacesuit that can turn urine into drinking water

A sci-fi-inspired spacesuit that recycles urine into drinking water could enable astronauts to perform lengthy spacewalks on upcoming lunar expeditions.

The prototype, modelled on the “stillsuits” in the sci-fi classic Dune, collects urine, purifies it and can return it to the astronaut through a drinking tube within five minutes.

The suit’s creators hope it could be deployed before the end of the decade in Nasa’s Artemis programme, which is focused on learning how to live and work for prolonged periods on another world.

 

“The design includes a vacuum-based external catheter leading to a combined forward-reverse osmosis unit, providing a continuous supply of potable water with multiple safety mechanisms to ensure astronaut wellbeing,” said Sofia Etlin, a researcher at Weill Cornell Medicine and Cornell University and co-designer of the suit.

Nasa is preparing for the Artemis III mission in 2026, which aims to land a crew on the lunar south pole, with a stated ambition of launching crewed missions to Mars by the 2030s.

Urine and sweat are already routinely recycled on the International Space Station (ISS), but Etlin says an equivalent system is needed for when astronauts are out on expedition.

 

“Astronauts currently have only one litre of water available in their in-suit drink bags,” said Etlin. “This is insufficient for the planned longer-lasting lunar spacewalks, which can last 10 hours, and even up to 24 hours in an emergency.”

There are also longstanding complaints about the current waste management solution, the so-called maximum absorbency garment (MAG), which is essentially an adult nappy.

The garments are reportedly leak-prone, uncomfortable and unhygienic, prompting some astronauts to limit food and drink intake before spacewalks and others to complain of urinary tract infections (UTIs).

 

“If you’re giving Nasa billions of dollars, you’d think they wouldn’t keep the diaper,” said Etlin, who surveyed astronauts while researching the new design.

“It’s commonplace for the MAG to leak,” she added. “The astronauts talk about how at a certain point they can’t tell whether it’s urine or sweat any more. They’re like: ‘Yes, I’m an astronaut and this is a burden I have to bear.’”

Future commercial astronauts may be less likely to take such a stoical view, she suggested.

 

Prof Christopher Mason, of Weill Cornell Medicine, the study’s senior author, said: “Even in the absence of a large desert planet, like in Dune, this is something that could be better for astronauts.”

The proposed stillsuit system comprises a collection cup of moulded silicone to fit around the genitalia, with a different shape and size for women and men. This is contained within an undergarment made of multiple layers of flexible fabric.

The silicon cup connects to a moisture-activated vacuum pump that automatically switches on as soon as the astronaut begins to urinate. Once collected, the urine is diverted to the filtration system where it gets recycled into water with an efficiency of 87%.

The system uses an osmosis system to remove water from urine, plus a pump to separate water from salt.

 

Collecting and purifying 500ml of urine takes only five minutes. In deployment, the purified water could be enriched with electrolytes and returned to the astronaut as an energy drink.

The system measures 38cm by 23cm by 23cm, with a weight of approximately 8kg, which was judged to be sufficiently compact and light to be carried on the back of a spacesuit.

The team are planning to recruit 100 volunteers in New York in the autumn to test the system for comfort and functionality.

“Our system can be tested in simulated microgravity conditions, as microgravity is the primary space factor we must account for,” said Mason.

“These tests will ensure the system’s functionality and safety before it is deployed in actual space missions.”

Details of the prototype are published in the journal Frontiers in Space Technology.
