The DNC’s memo clearly stated its goal:

 

For the first time ever in a Presidential cycle, the DNC is investing in Democrats Abroad.

 

The DNC is doing the work to win in battleground states across the country.

 

With under 100 days until Election Day and ahead of the Democratic National Convention, the DNC announced a significant six-figure investment in Democrats VoteFromAbroad, for the first time ever in a Presidential cycle, helping fund their efforts to win the votes of approximately 9,000,000 Americans– of which only about 8% are registered voters from 2020 – who are living or serving outside of the United States.

 

Here’s the problem with the DNC’s stated goal:

 

The DNC’s stated goal of winning the votes of approximately 9 million Americans through its Democrats Abroad website seems impossible, given that according to a recent report by the federal government FVAP website, only 4.4 million US citizens reside overseas, and only 2.8 million of those are of voting age.

 

Reuters recently wrote about the DNC’s plan to spend $300,000 to register “9 million” UOCAVA voters leading up to the 2024 election. According to the government website FVAP, there are only 2.8 million eligible UOCAVA voters. Let’s assume that half of those eligible voters would vote Democrat (a generous assumption given the state of the US economy); that’s only 1.4 million eligible voters in the 2024 election. The 1.4 million number doesn’t account for how they would vote or even if they would vote, given that a meager number of eligible overseas voters actually vote.

 

Curiously, the DNC memo claims that “over 1.6 million Americans from the battleground states of Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin” live overseas, adding that they plan to “fight for every vote.”

 

They share the chart with their UOCAVA population estimates for each battleground state.

A US Navy Boeing EA-18G Growler electronic warfare aircraft, operated by Electronic Attack Squadron (VAQ) 130 "Zappers", crashed "on a mountainside" east of Mount Rainier, Washington.

 

On the 16th of October around 12:30pm PDT the crash site was located, SAR teams examined the site and looked for the crew. The status of the two crewmembers remains unknown.

 

Rescue operations are still being conducted. It is unclear the extent of the damage to the aircraft, but it is assumed that the aircraft has been destroyed.

Zelensky is currently promoting his ‘victory plan’ to Ukraine’s Western backers, which he argues can end the conflict with Russia.

 

Bild has now revealed that a Ukrainian official involved in weapons procurement claimed “a few months ago” that Kiev was willing to go nuclear.

 

“We have the material, we have the knowledge. If the order is given, we will only need a few weeks to have the first bomb,” the unnamed official said, according to the German tabloid. He added that the West should “think less about Russia’s red lines and more about ours.”

 

Zelensky’s adviser Dmitry Litvin denied Bild’s report, however, telling the Ukrainian outlet Strana on Thursday that it was “nonsense” and suggesting that the German tabloid “can be confused with Russian propaganda.”

 

In his speech on Thursday, Zelensky claimed to have informed US Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump about Kiev’s possible atomic aspirations.

 

“Speaking to Donald Trump, I told him: What is the way out for us? Either Ukraine will have nuclear weapons, and they will serve as protection, or we need to be in some kind of an alliance. We don’t know any effective alliances except NATO,” Zelensky said. He also claimed that Trump agreed with him.

Massive Teachers Union Used Taxpayer-Funded Dues For Pricey Meeting At Legendary Casino

A union representing roughly 1.8 million teachers and other educational workers used taxpayer-funded dues to book a trip to a famous casino and to pay for meals at luxury restaurants.

 

The American Federation of Teachers (AFT) spent over $370,000 on expenses at Caesars Palace, a luxury hotel and casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, disclosure forms show. In addition, the AFT also used dues collected from its members to help pay for trips to Europe and South America, as well as to pay off five-figure tabs at upscale restaurants.

 

“My suspicion is that this is a case of ‘rank hath its privileges,'” Capital Research Center research director Michael Watson, an expert on organized labor, told the Daily Caller News Foundation. “If you are one of the union officers or delegates who has shown loyalty to the union, who has served the union’s interests, they will fly you out, you get to go to the big convention, you get to clap as people give speeches, say how much you support Randi Weingarten and you get these rewards. Of course, it’s coming out of the dues checks of working teachers.”

 

Randi Weingarten, who heads the AFT, took home a salary of roughly half a million dollars between July 2023 and June 2024, according to the union’s most recent disclosure. Nearly all of AFT’s income during this period came from per capita tax fees collected from its regional affiliates. These fees paid by local unions are, in turn, funded by dues from public school teachers and other educational workers.

 

The bulk of the AFT’s spending at Caesars Palace is marked as meeting expenses, with an additional couple thousand dollars in “non-itemized transactions,” according to the disclosure forms. Caesars Palace says that the rooms available to groups holding meetings on its grounds make “every guest feel like an emperor” and range from “high-end suites” to “plush villas.”

 

Caesars Palace has appeared in numerous films like “Ocean’s Eleven,” “Rocky III,” and “The Hangover.”

 

The hotel says on its website that its name has become “synonymous with Las Vegas.” The hotel has a casino boasting 185 table games, 1,324 slot machines and sports betting, according to its website. Additional amenities available to hotel guests include poolside bars, on-site spa service, a hair salon, a limo service, a nightclub, in-room massage service and a sauna.

 

On top of the trip to Las Vegas, the AFT also paid off hotel stays in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and Geneva, Switzerland, according to disclosures. The AFT also used over $20,000 in union funds to cover bills at spendy restaurants between July 2023 to June 2024.

 

At Carmine’s, an upscale Italian eatery in D.C. where the union spent roughly $16,000, items as simple as a plain Caesar salad or garlic and oil pasta run approximately $30, according to its menu. The restaurant also offers a 45-ounce porterhouse steak that can be ordered in four different styles.

 

The AFT spent an additional $5,548 at The Palm Restaurant, a famous steakhouse in Chicago, disclosures show. The cheapest cut of beef offered at The Palm is a $57 eight-ounce filet while its most expensive item is a $149 36-ounce porterhouse steak, according to its menu.

 

During the same period the AFT spent big on ritzy food and lodging, only about one-third of its expenditures went toward “representational activities,” which are operations related to collective bargaining and member recruitment. The rest of the union’s spending went toward line items like overhead, administration, lobbying and political activities.

 

The AFT spent $38,104,649 on lobbying and political activities between July 2023 and June 2024, disclosures show. The union, for instance, gave roughly $2.4 million to For Our Future Action Fund, a climate-focused pro-Democratic super PAC, between November 2023 and April 2024. Additionally, campaign finance records show that the AFT’s PAC has funneled millions into federal and non-federal Democratic committees during the 2023-2024 election cycle.

 

As a result of Janus v. AFSCME, a 2018 Supreme Court case, public school employees can no longer be compelled to pay union dues that end up going toward expenditures like luxury getaways for union bosses and contributions to left-of-center political committees.

“At least, in theory, thanks to Janus the forced dues problem is gone,” Watson, the labor expert, told the DCNF. “Public school teachers no longer have to pay the union a fee in order to keep their jobs.”

 

The AFT did not respond to the DCNF’s requests for comment.

Airmen, Guardians showcase indigenous STEM talent at AISES National Conference

The Department of the Air Force emphasized the importance of varied voices in science, technology, engineering and math, or STEM, education during the American Indian Science and Engineering Society National Conference in San Antonio, Oct. 3-5.

This three-day conference brought together thousands of indigenous students, educators and professionals to promote opportunities and celebrate achievements in STEM.

The DAF’s participation in this year’s conference, themed “Rivers of Resilience: Sustaining Indigenous Innovation,” aimed to foster stronger connections with Native American and Alaska Native communities.

 

“My journey, like a river, took many turns and cut its own path; at times it was turbulent, and other times calm, or for my Civil Engineering folks, laminar flow,” said Jacqueline Melcher, Indigenous Nations Equality Team co-lead and chief of the 88th Civil Engineering Group’s Installation Management Division during her keynote to students during an awards luncheon.

“You will experience the same thing, and I promise you, your peers, your mentors and your tiyospaye (Lakota word for family) will teach you how to swim instead of sink.”

 

Members from several groups across the DAF, to include INET, Air Force Recruiting Service, Air Force Research Laboratory, Air Force Personnel Center and more, showcased various pathways to STEM careers within the Air Force and Space Force, both as military personnel and civilian employees.

The DAF offered information about scholarships, internships and career tracks in aerospace engineering, cybersecurity, space operations and more.

Enlisted, officer and civilian Airmen and Guardians also shared their insights and experiences, as well as the various DAF essential roles that require STEM skills.

 

Additionally, the team hosted an immersive “From Sky to Space with America’s Airmen and Guardians” STEM workshop where participants explored various disciplines and professional opportunities across the Air Force and Space Force.

DAF members from a variety of STEM specialties introduced some of the DAF’s cutting-edge tools and technologies and guided them through hands-on exercises.

“This event is an opportunity to expose the Air [Force] and Space Force to young people and show them it’s a place where they can not only thrive professionally, but also celebrate their heritage and culture,” Melcher said.

“I’m proud that the DAF is not only leading the way in STEM research, but also has INET to demonstrate its desire to promote opportunities and remove barriers for indigenous Airmen and Guardians.”

Russian MPs vote to ban ‘child-free propaganda’

 

Lawmakers have unanimously backed legislation to tackle the promotion of childlessness in the media and online

 

According to Volodin, 388 legislators backed the bill, with no votes against. The draft law proposes adding “child-free” ideology to six existing laws banning “pedophilia, LGBT and gender reassignment propaganda,” the official said.

 

“We continue to create a unified legal space to protect children, families and traditional values,” Volodin wrote on his Telegram channel. “It is important to protect people, especially the younger generation, from the ideology of refusing to have children imposed through the Internet, media, films and advertising.”

 

The legislation will introduce administrative fines for spreading “child-free ideology” of up to 400,000 rubles (about $4,100) for individuals, up to 800,000 rubles ($8,200) for officials and up to five million rubles ($51,000) for entities which promote such ideas, the State Duma chairman said.

 

Elvira Aitkulova, a member of the State Duma Committee on Education, suggested during the discussion in parliament that with the newly passed bill, Russian “families will have freedom of choice without pressure from media.”

 

According to Yury Boyarsky, a member of the ruling United Russia Party, ideology that promotes not having children runs counter to the national policy on protection of motherhood and childhood.

 

Presenting the bill, MPs insisted that it would only target the dissemination of “destructive” child-free ideology, rather than personal lifestyle choices.

 

“The decision on whether to have children or not should be made by a woman,” Volodin stressed. “But there should be no propaganda which puts pressure on a woman when she makes a decision to have a child, as it is happening now in the US and Europe.”

 

The bill banning “propaganda of the ideology of childlessness” was introduced to the State Duma in September. To become a law, it has to pass two more readings in the lower house, gain approval in the upper house, and be signed by the president.

 

Earlier, the initiative was backed by Valentina Matvienko, speaker of the upper chamber of the Russian parliament, the Federation Council. Matvienko criticized modern feminism, stating that it has turned into a “struggle against men” and “traditional values.”

A man who says he was wrongfully accused of a potential assassination attempt on former President Trump at a California campaign rally Saturday has filed a lawsuit against the sheriff who made the accusations.

 

"They essentially dropped a nuclear bomb into my life where my life will never be the same, regardless. You know, there's a legal word called restitution, which means to make you whole again after a calamity like this. And there is no ultimate restitution in this," Trump supporter Vem Miller told Fox News Digital. "You know, the internet is forever. Essentially, they did incredibly damaging things to my life."

 

Miller, of Nevada, was arrested for possessing firearms outside the Republican presidential nominee's rally in Coachella over the weekend, and says he was given a VIP pass to the rally and has an extensive media and political history.

 

"They keep saying that I was trying to get into the Trump rally with guns, which is highly inaccurate. The accurate description of what I was trying to do is that I was trying to go to a private parking lot, park my car, then walk at least a quarter-of-a-mile," Miller said.

 

Miller said if he was estimating correctly, the parking area was at least half a mile away from the actual perimeter of the rally, which he says was intentionally set up that way.

 

"It is set up purposefully that way, because guns are not the only way to assassinate people. It's also car bombs. So you don't want to have cars like a Timothy McVeigh-style situation near the rally. So these are two distinctly separate locations," Miller explained. "So that has to be characterized correctly, because I would not be so foolish to think that. And I think people know at this point from my talk, my demeanor and all that stuff, my work that I've done, like, I'm not going to make a stupid mistake like that."

 

When he was stopped on his way into the rally, Miller told officers he had a shotgun, a loaded handgun, and a high-capacity magazine. Miller claims he has never fired them, but he started keeping them with him when he started getting death threats.

 

"The guns, by the way, that we're talking about, which is, I don't know, like a four-foot-long shotgun and a Glock. None of them are automatic. None of them are rifles. None of them are even the kind of accuracy you would need in order to execute something of this sinister proportion that I was initially being accused of. They're not even the right guns for that. So it's like, you know, there's so many flaws in this," Miller said.

 

Miller says his life has been turned upside down since Saturday, and he is living in constant fear for his life and those he cares about, fearing "crazy guys trying to protect Trump" would try to "off him" because they think he was trying to kill Trump.

The town hall will be filmed at a venue called the Reid Barn in Cumming, Georgia, on Tuesday and air on Wednesday at 11 a.m. ET on "The Faulkner Focus." Ahead of the event, Faulkner underscored the importance of the female vote and for presidential candidates to have the opportunity to explain their platforms to the demographic.

 

"Women constitute the largest group of registered and active voters in the United States, so it is paramount that female voters understand where the presidential candidates stand on the issues that matter to them most. Social Equality Minister May Golan, along with MKs Tally Gotliv, Osher Shkalim and Hanoch Milwidsky, confirmed to Haaretz that they will attend the event. The invitation also mentions that six other Likud MKs are expected to participate.

The Nachala movement stated that "the event is not just a theoretical conference, but a practical exercise and preparation for renewed settlement in Gaza." The movement added that "the return to settlement in Gaza is no longer just an idea but a process that is already in advanced stages, with government and public support."

According to the movement's announcement, ministers Itamar Ben-Gvir, Bezalel Smotrich, Amichai Eliyahu, and Yitzhak Wasserlauf are also expected to attend the event.

The event is slated to include a tour of Kibbutz Nirim, but the kibbutz issued a statement saying, "No tour was coordinated with Nirim. The security coordinator has not been contacted, and we do not agree to this, so it will not take place."

Two people were injured and buildings were damaged, state media reported citing a military statement.

 

SANA claimed that Syrian anti-aircraft defense intercepted “hostile targets” in the skies above Latakia.

The governments of the United States and Canada said this week that a group tied to the anti-Israel protests on college campuses nationwide is tied to a terrorist group.

 

U.S. Department of the Treasury stated in a press release on Tuesday that the Samidoun Palestinian Prisoner Solidarity Network is a “sham charity that serves as an international fundraiser for the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) terrorist organization.” Treasury named Samidoun a terrorist entity in conjunction with Canada, a designation that makes it illegal for Americans to have a financial relationship with the group.

 

“Organizations like Samidoun masquerade as charitable actors that claim to provide humanitarian support to those in need, yet in reality divert funds for much-needed assistance to support terrorist groups,” Acting Under Secretary of the Treasury for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence Bradley T. Smith said.

 

The Department of the Treasury said the Vancouver-based Samidoun is a “front for the [PFLP] in countries where the PFLP is declared a terrorist organization. While the organization ostensibly supports Palestinian prisoners and their family members, in practice Samidoun provides financial support to the sanctioned PFLP.”

 

It said PFLP is “committed to terrorist activity through its armed apparatus, the Martyr Abu Ali Mustafa Brigades, and the group has been active in the Israel-Hamas conflict, to include participating in the horrific attacks against Israeli civilians on October 7, 2023.”

 

Samidoun co-founder Charlotte Kates told NBC earlier this month that “there’s nothing wrong with being a member of Hamas,” and was seen at a rally saying, “Long live October 7th.” She referenced “colonialism” — language that has become popular among U.S. left-wing activists on college campuses — more than 40 times in an interview with NBC.

 

Also on Tuesday, Canada specifically named Kates’ husband, Khaled Barakat, as a member of PFLP’s leadership. PFLP is a Marxist-Leninist group.

 

Samidoun used the Arizona-based Alliance for Global Justice (AFGJ) as a financial pass-through in the United States. Last month, House Republicans asked the IRS to rescind the nonprofit status of the “anti-capitalist” Alliance, whose status is also put at risk by the Treasury designating Samidoun a terrorist group.

 

The Capital Research Center, which authored a report on the financial backing of the college campus protests last month, highlighted Samidoun as a key group. CRC researcher Ryan Mauro wrote Wednesday that “AFGJ supports virtually every anti-U.S. government, including North Korea. It is fully supportive of the Iran-backed dictatorship in Syria and defends Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.”

 

CRC said the group has been funded by the Democratic Party’s biggest players, including the Tides Center, which has given $6.5 million to AFGJ since 2019; the Tides Foundation, which has given $3.62 million since 2018; the New Venture Fund, which has given $750,000 since 2020; and George Soros’ Open Society Foundations, which has given AFGJ $250,000.

 

Among examples of AFGJ’s involvement in campus demonstrations, CRC pointed to Columbia University, where “In March, Kates, Barakat, and [Within Our Lifetime] leader Nerdeen Kiswani held a joint event for Columbia University Apartheid Divest, a pro-terrorism coalition of over 115 groups. The three spoke in support of terrorism, especially PFLP, with Barakat hailing airplane hijackings as “one of the most important tactics that the Palestinian resistance have engaged in.”

Over 3 Million Australians Face Food Insecurity in 2024 - Food Relief Organization

 

The number of Australians facing food insecurity has reached 3.4 million this year, marking a protracted food crisis in the country, Australian food relief organization Foodbank said.

"In 2024, 32% of Australian households (an estimated 3.4 million households) experienced food insecurity (either moderate or severe). Food insecurity appears to be recovering from a high in 2023 (36%), returning to relatively similar levels seen in 2022 (33%)," the organization said in its annual report released on Tuesday.

The statement added that around 2 million households are experiencing severe food insecurity.

"This is no longer a crisis of temporary hardship but a prolonged, systemic issue affecting millions of Australians. These households live with the daily anxiety of not knowing where their next meal will come from, forced to choose between essentials like food, housing and utilities," the head of the organization, Brianna Casey, noted.

According to the report, "97% of respondents were worried about running out of food before they had the money to buy it, and 93% could not afford "balanced meals."

Food insecurity is a global problem. The United Nations said in 2023 that about 282 million, or 21.5% of the world's population, faced acute food insecurity. This figure reportedly increased by 24 million compared to 2022.

Kroger’s Plan to Use Facial Recognition Raises Concerns About Surge Pricing

Democratic congresswoman Rashida Tlaib recently sent a letter to Kroger over the grocery giant’s purported plan tointroduce digital price tags that could be changed in an instant to raise or lower prices for shoppers based on the time of day, the weather, or any other number of factors. But one particular detail in Kroger’s plan is raising the most eyebrows: The company intends to put cameras in stores that would be used for facial recognition.

 

News leaked over the summer that grocery giant Kroger was partnering with Microsoft to use electronic shelf labels, shortened in the grocery industry as ESLs, as part of an AI push to institute dynamic pricing at its grocery stores. The plan also includes so-called Enhanced Display for Grocery Environment (EDGE) shelf displays that would reportedly include cameras to capture customer information, including images of faces to better tailor ads.

 

But Rep. Tlaib, whose home state of Michigan has 120 Kroger locations, expressed concern about these technologies in her letter dated Oct. 11 and shared Tuesday for the first time publicly.

 

“Studies have shown that facial recognition technology is flawed and can lead to discrimination in predominantly Black and brown communities,” Tlaib said in her letter. “The racial biases of facial recognition technology are well-documented and should not be extended into our grocery stores.”

 

Kroger is the largest grocery store chain in the U.S. by revenue and owns a number of different brands, including Ralphs, Fred Meyer, Pick’n Save, Food 4 Less, and Dillions, among a host of others. Tlaib is worried that ESLs will allow Kroger’s stores to “use customer data to build personalized profiles of each customer” in such a way that it will be able to “determine the maximum price of goods customers are willing to pay.”

 

The plan for dynamic pricing and highly individualized advertising has drawn comparisons to the 2002 futuristic sci-fi movie Minority Report, in which Tom Cruise’s character gets served ads targeting someone with a Japanese surname because he’s been implanted with another man’s eyes.

 

Kroger told Gizmodo in an emailed statement on Wednesday that the company’s business model “is built on a foundation of lowering prices to attract more customers,” claiming that “customers are shopping more with Kroger now than ever because we are fighting inflation and providing great value.”

 

But Kroger didn’t agree with claims that ESLs would be used to raise prices.

 

“To be clear, Kroger does not and has never engaged in ‘surge pricing.’ Any test of electronic shelf tags is designed to lower prices for more customers where it matters most. To suggest otherwise is not true,” the statement continued. That quote is identical to a statement CNN received from an unnamed Kroger spokesperson defending the technology in August.

 

Tlaib’s letter isn’t the first from lawmakers expressing concern about facial recognition. Senators Elizabeth Warren and Bob Casey, both Democrats, sent a letter to Kroger back in August asking questions about the company’s plans. As the lawmakers phrased it, facial recognition could be used to “exploit sensitive customer data.”

 

The letter from Warren and Casey noted that analysts are worried dynamic pricing for grocery stores means food could soon be priced like airline tickets, creating a sense of urgency and scarcity that wouldn’t otherwise exist with static prices. It’s unclear whether Warren and Casey have received satisfactory answers to their lists of questions.

 

Kroger is under increased scrutiny over the company’s $24.6 billion merger with Albertson’s, which is currently making its way through state courts in Washington and Colorado over anti-trust concerns. Two Kroger executives took the stand in Denver District Court on Tuesday arguing that it needs to acquire Albertson’s as a way to compete against Walmart’s grocery business, according to the Denver Post. The FTC has also challenged the merger, arguing that it would reduce competition and raise prices for consumers.

Supreme Court justices are not supposed to be “politicians” the way elected officials are, as their job is to faithfully apply the Constitution as it is written.

 

In reality, however, these justices are still very much influenced by outside political forces, as they do not like being criticized by the media.

To be sure, there are some justices on the Supreme Court who have the courage to stand up to Biden, and would relish the chance to do so.

 

But they sadly do not represent a majority, as there are other justices like John Roberts and Brett Kavanaugh who prefer to just play it safe.

 

This reality has reared its head yet again as new leaked information shows the Court may allow Biden to crack down on so-called “ghost guns.”

 

According to the BBC, “The US Supreme Court signalled its willingness to uphold a major gun control policy implemented by the Biden administration that regulates so-called ‘ghost guns’ in the same way as other firearms.

 

“The rule being challenged requires that ghost guns – largely untraceable firearms that can be assembled at home using kits – are subject to the same regulations as commercially-made firearms.

 

“Under that rule, ghost gun manufacturers are required to include serial numbers on the kits and perform background checks on the purchasers.”

 

The only possible reason the Biden administration could be so concerned about these guns is that they want all guns to be trackable.

 

They don’t like the idea that some people might own guns that they do not know about.

 

The article continues, “On Tuesday, in the first case of its term, the US’s top court considered whether this rule had been applied fairly to ghost guns, in a challenge brought by gun rights groups.

 

“All three of the courts’ liberal justices, as well as several of the six-member conservative majority, sounded skeptical of the challenge.”

 

“Conservative Justice Samuel Alito pressed Ms. Prelogar on the interpretation that a parts kit can be readily converted into a weapon that is regulated as a firearm.”

 

“But Chief Justice John Roberts, a conservative, seemed unconvinced by Mr. Patterson’s primary claim.”

 

The fact that Roberts is the main obstacle to getting conservative rulings on important issues is nothing new.

 

Roberts has spent practically his entire tenure on the Supreme Court trying to appease the left, and he is apparently doing it yet again in this important Second Amendment case.

 

It’s unfortunate that he, and other justices, are not committed to protecting the Constitution in full, and it leaves the Constitution open to even more attacks from the Biden administration.

McKinsey Nears $500 Million Settlement With DOJ Over Opioid Probe

 

McKinsey is going to be paying "at least $500 million" to settle probes into the company about its role in helping opioid makers boost their sales.

WASHINGTON – WASHINGTON (AP) — Mitch McConnell said after the 2020 election that then-President Donald Trump was “stupid as well as being ill-tempered," a “despicable human being" and a “narcissist,” according to excerpts from a new biography of the Senate Republican leader that will be released this month.

 

McConnell made the remarks in private as part of a series of personal oral histories that he made available to Michael Tackett, deputy Washington bureau chief of The Associated Press. Tackett’s book, “The Price of Power,” draws from almost three decades of McConnell’s recorded diaries and from years of interviews with the normally reticent Kentucky Republican.

 

The animosity between Trump and McConnell is well known — Trump once called McConnell " a dour, sullen, and unsmiling political hack." But McConnell's private comments are by far his most brutal assessment of the former president and could be seized on by Democrats before the Nov. 5 election. The biography will be released Oct. 29, one week before Election Day that will decide if Trump returns to the White House.

 

Despite those strong words, McConnell has endorsed Trump’s 2024 run, saying earlier this year “it should come as no surprise” that he would support the Republican party's nominee. He shook Trump’s hand in June when Trump visited GOP senators on Capitol Hill.

 

McConnell, 82, announced this year that he will step aside as Republican leader after the election but stay in the Senate through the end of his term in 2026.

 

The comments about Trump quoted in the book came in the weeks before the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol. Trump was then actively trying to overturn his loss to Democrat Joe Biden. McConnell feared this would hurt Republicans in two Georgia runoffs and cost them the Senate majority. Democrats won both races.

 

Publicly, McConnell had congratulated Biden after the Electoral College certified the presidential vote and the senator warned his fellow Republicans not to challenge the results. But he did not say much else. Privately, he said in his oral history that “it’s not just the Democrats who are counting the days” until Trump left office, and that Trump’s behavior “only underscores the good judgment of the American people. They’ve had just enough of the misrepresentations, the outright lies almost on a daily basis, and they fired him.”

 

“And for a narcissist like him,” McConnell continued, “that's been really hard to take, and so his behavior since the election has been even worse, by far, than it was before, because he has no filter now at all.”

 

Before those Georgia runoffs, McConnell said Trump is “stupid as well as being ill-tempered and can’t even figure out where his own best interests lie.”

Trump was also holding up a coronavirus aid package at the time, despite bipartisan support. “This despicable human being,” McConnell said in his oral history, “is sitting on this package of relief that the American people desperately need.”

 

On Jan. 6, soon after he made those comments, McConnell was holed up in a secure location with other congressional leaders, calling Vice President Mike Pence and military officials for reinforcements as Trump supporters stormed the Capitol. Once the Senate resumed debate over the certification of Biden's victory, McConnell said in a speech on the floor that “this failed attempt to obstruct the Congress, this failed insurrection, only underscores how crucial the task before us is for our republic.”

 

McConnell then went to his office to address his staff, some of whom had barricaded themselves in the office as rioters banged on their doors. He started to sob softly as he thanked them, Tackett writes.

 

“You are my family, and I hate the fact that you had to go through this,” he told them.

The former president was to deliver the keynote speech at what the NRA titled a “Defend the 2nd” event, a reference to the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution that protects the right of Americans to own firearms. A Trump campaign official said the event was canceled due to a scheduling conflict.

The next month, McConnell gave his harshest public criticism of Trump on the Senate floor, saying he was “ practically and morally responsible ” for the Jan. 6 attack. Still, McConnell voted to acquit Trump after House Democrats impeached him for inciting the riot.

 

In a statement to the AP on Thursday, McConnell referenced two fellow Republican senators — JD Vance of Ohio, the vice presidential nominee, and Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, both of whom are strong Trump allies after harshly criticizing him during his first run in 2016.

 

“Whatever I may have said about President Trump pales in comparison to what JD Vance, Lindsey Graham, and others have said about him, but we are all on the same team now,”McConnell said. (What does that mean?)

 

McConnell also had doubts about Trump from the start. Just after Trump was elected in 2016, as Congress was certifying the election, McConnell told Biden, then the outgoing vice president, that he thought Trump could be trouble, Tackett writes.

 

The book channels McConnell’s inner thoughts during some of the biggest moments after Trump took office, as McConnell held his tongue and as the two men repeatedly fought and made up.

 

In 2017, as Trump publicly criticized McConnell for the Senate's failure to repeal the Affordable Care Act, Trump and McConnell had a heated argument on the phone. Weeks went by with no contact. Then Trump invited McConnell to the White House and called a joint news conference without telling him first. McConnell said the event went fine, and “it’s not hard to look more knowledgeable than Donald Trump at a press conference.”

 

After the passage of a $1.5 trillion tax overhaul that same year, McConnell said, “All of a sudden, I’m Trump’s new best friend.”

 

He blamed Trump after House Republicans lost their majority in the 2018 midterm elections, Tackett writes. Trump ”has every characteristic you would not want a president to have,” McConnell said in an oral history at the time, and was “not very smart, irascible, nasty.”

 

In 2022, as Trump continued to criticize McConnell and made racist comments about his wife, former Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao, McConnell told Tackett that “I can’t think of anybody I’d rather be criticized by than this sleazeball.”

 

“Every time he takes a shot at me, I think it's good for my reputation,” McConnell said.

 

Also in 2022, McConnell said in his oral history that Trump's behavior since losing the election had been “beyond erratic” as he kept pushing false allegations of voter fraud. “Unfortunately, about half the Republicans in the country believe whatever he says,” McConnell said.

 

By 2024, McConnell had again endorsed Trump. He felt he had to if he were to continue to play a role in shaping the nation’s agenda.

 

“It was the price he paid for power,” Tackett writes.

 

This story has been corrected to reflect that the size of the tax overhaul under Trump was $1.5 trillion, not $1.5 billion.

To the Litigation Attorneys representing all of the people in North Carolina who lost everything because of the flood and who will not have money to rebuild because they didn’t have flood insurance: There are a few things that you need to know.

 

A)FEMA didn’t update the flood zone maps for decades so the people who purchased their properties didn’t know they bought land in a flood zone. FEMA didn’t do their job.- Maria in the Morning interview 10-15-2024

 

B)Duke Power opened the dam that caused the water that created mudslideswhich then caused the roadways to fail and rivers to flood.

 

C)The River monitors were broken and had been brokenand were reported by homeowners in the area near Chimney Rock.

 

D)No evacuation was given until after Duke Power opened the dam after the mudslides began.

 

E) Video testimony exists of victims who didn’t receive evacuation notices until the mudslide events were in progress.

 

F) FEMA Spokesman on Fox interview 10-14-2024 said that the Governor has to request FEMA.Governor RoyCooper was partying in New York and did not call in FEMA Searchand Rescue causing many people who could have been rescued to lose their lives.

 

G)Many of the Representatives in North Carolina were conveniently out of state or townincluding the Mayor of Chimney Rock. – Video testimony exists.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky addressed the Ukrainian parliament on Wednesday and unveiled his so-called "victory plan," but there’s no sign any of Ukraine’s Western backers will support his proposals.

 

Zelensky’s plan includes five points and three classified sections that he did not make public. The plan is essentially a list of demands that Zelensky has been making of the US and NATO for months. He claimed that if the plan was implemented, Ukraine "may be able to end the war no later than next year."

 

One point is for Ukraine to receive a formal invitation to join NATO, but there’s no sign the alliance will be willing to do that anytime in the near future, and Ukrainian neutrality will be a key Russian demand for any peace deal.

 

The plan calls for more air defenses and for NATO countries to help shoot down Russian missiles over Ukraine, which would mean direct NATO involvement in the war. NATO countries have previously rejected Ukrainian requests to intercept Russian missiles and drones.

 

Another point in the plan calls for support for Ukraine to use NATO-provided missiles to launch long-range strikes inside Russia, an escalation that would risk nuclear war. So far, the US and the UK have rejected Zelensky’s repeated request for help with long-range strikes.

 

Ukrainian MP Oleksii Honcharenko, a member of the European Solidarity party, criticized Zelensky’s plan. "First of all, it’s not a plan. Plan means something with concrete steps," he said, according to The Associated Press. "It’s kind of a wish list from Ukraine for our partners, how they can and should support us. And it doesn’t look realistic. We were waiting for some real serious conversation about the situation and the strategy, and this is not that."

A Georgia judge struck down several rules recently passed by the State Elections Board (SEB) Wednesday, measures that were a subject of fierce debate between Trump and Harris surrogates in the key battleground.

Fulton County Superior Court Judge Thomas A. Cox ruled the new provisions "illegal, unconstitutional and void" in an opinion released Wednesday evening, according to multiple outlets.

 

It comes hours after he weighed two lawsuits related to the rules, one led by the Georgia Democratic Party and a second by civil rights groups that included current and former GOP state officials.

 

One of the measures, a requirement for all ballots to be hand counted by three county election officials after they had been machine tabulated to ensure the totals match, has become a political lightening rod in recent weeks.

 

That rule was temporarily blocked in a separate ruling Tuesday night challenging the SEB’s new measures. Fulton County Superior Court Judge Robert McBurney did not take issue with the rule’s intent but argued it would be untenable at this late stage.

 

Cox’s ruling invalidates that measure, while also invalidating a rule directing county officials to conduct a "reasonable inquiry" before certifying election results and giving them the ability "to examine all election related documentation created during the conduct of elections."

 

Cox also blocked new signature and photo ID requirements for people dropping off absentee ballots for others.

 

The rules were passed last month in a 3-2 vote by the Republican majority on the elections board.

 

Democrats had accused the GOP officials of trying to sow doubt and chaos in the election process, while supporters of the rule changes said they were necessary guardrails to ensure voter confidence.

 

In the wider ranging of the two cases Wednesday, led by Eternal Vigilance Action, a group founded by former GOP state legislator Scot Turner, the plaintiffs argued the SEB was out of its scope of authority in establishing the new rules.

 

"Three members of the state election board, kind of like Napoleon, they put a crown on their head and say, ‘We are the emperors of election,’" the plaintiffs’ lawyer said. "No, that is not the way our system of government works."

 

But the defendants and supporting groups, including attorneys for the Georgia Republican Party, argued the state’s General Assembly gave the SEB the scope to craft such rules.

 

"They don't say which one of those statutes should be found unconstitutional because, remember, to rule in favor of the plaintiffs here, you're going to have to find that the General Assembly's grant of authority to the agency was unconstitutional," a lawyer for the GOP said.

 

"They don't say which one of the three powers we have that they violated. Could be all three of them. Could be one of the three. And if it's a constitutional challenge, you can't have something that's that vague to bring into a court to ask you to declare it to be unconstitutional."

 

Both former President Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaigns have dedicated significant time and resources to Georgia, which President Biden won by less than 1% in 2020.

 

Harris’ campaign lauded Tuesday's ruling that blocked the hand-counting ballots rule, declaring, "Our democracy is stronger thanks to this decision."
