Russia not seeking Ukraine’s surrender – Putin

Moscow wants Kiev to acknowledge the “realities on the ground,” the Russian president has said

Russia is not seeking Ukraine’s surrender, President Vladimir Putin has said.

During a plenary panel on Friday at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, Putin was asked whether Moscow has been seeking Ukraine’s “unconditional surrender,” as US President Donald Trump is demanding from Iran.

“We are not seeking the surrender of Ukraine. We insist on recognition of the realities that have developed on the ground,” Putin said, noting that the Ukraine conflict was “completely different” from the ongoing escalation in the Middle East.

During a Q&A session, Putin was also asked about Moscow’s military plans and the advance beyond the former Ukrainian territories that became part of Russia as a result of referendums in 2022. Putin did not give a direct answer, suggesting that in a certain sense, the entirety of Ukraine is Russian.

“I have said many times that I consider Russians and Ukrainians to be one people, in fact. In this sense, all of Ukraine is ours,” he said, stressing that Moscow has never denied Ukraine’s right to be an independent country.

The president did not rule out seizing the Ukrainian city of Sumy and pushing the “buffer zone” designed to protect Russia’s border areas from attacks deeper into Ukrainian territory.

“We don’t have the goal of taking Sumy, but in principle, I don’t rule it out,”Putin stated.

Russian troops entered Sumy Region earlier this year, after expelling Kiev’s invasion force from Russia’s Kursk Region, which Ukraine attacked last August. According to the Russian president, the “buffer zone” in Sumy Region is 10-12km deep already.

The attack on Kursk Region has only created more problems for the already thinned-out Ukrainian troops, Putin said, adding that the ranks of Kiev’s military are currently filled to only 47% on average. The invasion of Kursk turned into a “catastrophe” for the Ukrainian military, which lost around 76,000 troops there, he went on to say.

Israel on Friday launched a fresh wave of strikes on Iran and appeared to continue its campaign against Iran’s nuclear program, with reports emerging from Tehran that an IDF drone targeted and killed an Iranian nuclear scientist who had been holed up in a safe house.

The strike came as Defense Minister Israel Katz said that he instructed the IDF to “intensify strikes on regime targets in Tehran” to “destabilize” the Iranian regime.

An Iranian news website said a drone had struck an apartment in a residential building in central Tehran on Friday, but did not give details.

According to The Wall Street Journal, the scientist who was attacked specialized in weaponry and was being kept in a hiding spot outside of his home. An official speaking to the Journal refused to provide the scientist’s name.

The Israel Defense Forces have not yet commented on the reported strike, but the military has already confirmed the assassination of 10 Iranian nuclear scientists who were killed during the opening attack of Israel’s campaign against Iran in “Operation Narnia.”

Several news outlets, including the IRGC-controlled Fars News Agency and the semi-official Mehr news agency, carried a statement attributed to Shamkhani. Last week, the same agencies reported that he had been killed in Israel’s initial wave of airstrikes on June 13.

“I am alive and ready to sacrifice myself,” read the statement attributed to Shamkhani.

The news outlets claimed that he is recovering from serious wounds sustained in the Israeli strike and that he is in stable condition.

‘Destabilize the regime’

Meanwhile, Defense Minister Israel Katz said Friday morning that he instructed the IDF to “intensify strikes on regime targets in Tehran” to “destabilize” the Iranian regime.

“We must strike all symbols of the regime and its mechanisms of oppression, such as the Basij, as well as the base of the regime’s power, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps,” Katz said during an assessment with IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir and other top officers.

Katz said Israel must bring about “a mass evacuation of the population from Tehran in order to destabilize the regime and increase deterrence in response to missile fire on Israel’s home front, while continuing to target facilities and scientists to thwart Iran’s nuclear program, until all objectives of the operation are fully achieved.”

Katz’s remarks are notable, as Israel has not stated officially that the toppling of Iran’s authoritarian and Islamic regime is one of its goals in the current offensive, alongside destroying the country’s nuclear program and ballistic missile infrastructure.

The air campaign also saw some 25 Israeli fighter jets destroy on Friday morning some 35 missile launchers and storage sites in Iran’s Tabriz and Kermanshah, the military said. The IDF issued evacuation orders to local residents the previous night.

The IDF also said on Friday that air force strikes in Tehran earlier in the week struck Iran’s “Internal Security headquarters” and the headquarters of Iran’s “special internal security unit,” which are part of Iran’s armed forces.

Israeli airstrikes also reached into the city of Rasht on the Caspian Sea early Friday, Iranian media reported.

The Israeli military had warned the public to flee the area around Rasht’s Industrial City, southwest of the city’s downtown.

But with Iran’s internet shut off to the outside world, it’s unclear just how many people could see the message.

Moreover, the International Atomic Energy Agency said on Friday in a post on X that it has information that key buildings at Iran’s Arak heavy water research site in Khondab were damaged in Israeli strikes, including the distillation unit.

The information is an update on an assessment from Thursday, in which the IAEA said the reactor had been hit, but there were no radiological effects.

Iran did not immediately acknowledge the losses, and has not discussed the damage done so far to its military in the weeklong war.

‘Rage and victory’

The Iranian regime appeared to try and put on a show of support, with state media reporting rallies in several cities, describing them as rallies of “rage and victory,” and “solidarity and resistance.”

Thousands of people joined a protest against Israel in the Iranian capital on Friday after weekly prayers, chanting slogans in support of their leaders, images on state television showed.

“This is the Friday of the Iranian nation’s solidarity and resistance across the country,” the news anchor said.

Footage showed protesters in Tehran holding up photographs of commanders killed since the start of the war with Israel, while others waved the flags of Iran and the Lebanese terror group Hezbollah.

“I will sacrifice my life for my leader,” read a protester’s banner, a reference to supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

According to state television, protests took place in other cities around the country, including in Tabriz in northwestern Iran and Shiraz in the south.

Beersheba hit again

Iran’s ballistic missile attacks on Israel have repeatedly targeted civilian infrastructure, with the most recent strike hitting Beersheba on Friday, injuring seven and causing major damage to residential buildings.

IDF Spokesman Brig. Gen. Effie Defrin said in a press conference on Friday that Iran was planning a larger attack on the southern city, but Israeli strikes foiled the plan.

“The Iranians planned this morning a larger barrage at Beersheba. Before the launch, we identified preparations of three primed launchers… we destroyed them,” he said, adding that the Israeli Air Force’s continued strikes on Iran “reduce the harm to the home front.”

The continued firing of Iranian missiles since Friday has disrupted Israel’s economy, causing Danish shipping giant Maersk to announce that it is temporarily suspending vessel calls in Haifa port due to the conflict.

Maersk said it made the decision after “careful analysis of threat risk reports in the context of the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran, specifically regarding the potential risks of calling Israeli ports and the ensuing implications for the safety of our vessel crews.”

“At the moment, we are not experiencing further disruptions to our scheduled operations in the region,” it added in a statement.

Haifa and the surrounding area have sustained repeated ballistic missile attacks from Iran over the past week.

On June 13, Israel launched a campaign of airstrikes in Iran to decimate the Islamic Republic’s nuclear and ballistic missile programs, which Jerusalem characterized as an imminent, existential threat.

Iran has responded with deadly barrages of ballistic missiles at civilian population centers and military targets in Israel.

Iran, which vows to destroy Israel, has always denied any ambition to develop nuclear weapons, but its enrichment levels reach far beyond any civilian purpose, and the IAEA says it has obstructed inspectors from visiting its nuclear sites.

Israel says its sweeping assault on Iran’s top military leaders, nuclear scientists, uranium enrichment sites, and ballistic missile program is necessary to prevent the Islamic Republic from realizing its avowed plan to destroy the Jewish state.

Iran has retaliated by launching over 450 ballistic missiles and around 1,000 drones at Israel.

So far, Iran’s missile attacks have killed 24 people and wounded thousands in Israel, according to health officials and hospitals. Some of the missiles have hit apartment buildings, causing heavy damage.

G7 is ‘unviable’ – Kremlin

Moscow has no interest in the format as the members no longer represent the global majority, spokesperson Dmitry Peskov has said

Russia has zero interest in the ‘Group of Seven’ (G7) format, as it is no longer viable, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov has stated. He explained that the global dominance of the countries making up the group is nearing its end.

Established in the 1970s, the G7 comprised Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the US and the UK. In 1998, with Russia’s inclusion the group was expanded to a G8.However, the country’s membership was suspended in 2014 following Crimea’s reunification with Russia, following a referendum on the peninsula.

On Friday, Peskov said that “our attitude toward the [G7], it’s well known.It has long since stopped being an interesting and in-demand format.”

According to the Kremlin spokesperson, “Russia does not consider such a format viable because global trends indicate that the G7’s share in global affairs and global economy will be inexorably shrinking.”The official noted that “this is not seasonal volatility,” but a long-term trend.

Alternative formats, such as BRICS, which comprises Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, the United Arab Emirates and Indonesia as full members, have already overtaken the G7 in terms of their combined share in global economy, Peskov argued.

The presidential spokesperson’s comments echoed those made at the 28th annual St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF 2025) by Maksim Oreshkin, the deputy head of President Vladimir Putin’s administration, on Wednesday.

Our first drone radar may have been discontinued, but it’s still driving everything that comes next. ELVIRA sent us soaring, in 2D, into the defence and security market all the way back in 2014.

It laid the groundwork for some of our core technologies and achievements: from micro-Doppler classification and rapid prototyping to real-world deployment under pressure.

ELVIRA taught us how to move fast without compromising, to innovate boldly, and think with those on the front lines of airspace defence and security.

Now, as we commit full focus to the unique combination of 360° coverage and 3D insights, we celebrate the undeniable legacy ELVIRA leaves.

An emerging and elusive threat

In 2014, drone use was advancing fast. Their availability and commercialisation were surging, with elusive builds and increasingly capable flight powers. They were fast becoming a formidable threat to airspace safety and security everywhere.

Back then, we used drones in testing cycles (and still do). We knew our radars could detect them, and that we had the potential to help. But, could we build a radar that distinguishes drones from birds, classifies them accurately and tracks their erratic flight?

The challenge was steep, but the answer became ELVIRA.

Although ELVIRA was carefully considered, it was born from a burning need and innovated at lightning speed. Amazingly, within a year of beginning the project, our specialised 2D radar had landed in the defence and security market.

Robin Radar System Specialist, Wouter Keijer, was one of the engineers leading ELVIRA’s rapid launch. He said, “We wanted to get a robust and capable CUAS radar to market as soon as possible.

That meant reusing a lot of components from our avian radar and relying on COTS (commercial off-the-shelf) parts for the rest.

“The real innovation was in its micro-Doppler technology, which allowed ELVIRA to classify drones by their propeller signatures. That was a wholly new concept for us at the time.

“We aimed to keep things simple: a 2D rotating radar using FMCW (Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave) technology, low power, and micro-Doppler capability. We made it affordable, capable, and reliable.

In that sense, ELVIRA did what few radar systems could do at the time.”

Deployments that put ELVIRA on the map

Once launched, ELVIRA quickly proved its worth in mission-critical environments. The system gave us a solid foothold in the defence and security sector, going on to establish our name as a trusted provider worldwide.

Plenty of high-profile deployments presented unique logistical challenges. Every one of them demanded an advanced detection system that could be trusted under pressure, and ELVIRA delivered every time.

Some favourites in ELVIRA’s montage of real-world missions:

2016 – Hanover Fair, Germany

ELVIRA played a central role in securing the world’s largest industrial technology trade fair during a state visit by U.S. President Barack Obama and German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

With thousands of attendees and global media coverage, it presented a complex security landscape in a densely populated urban setting.

2017 – G20 Summit, Hamburg

Amid widespread demonstrations and elevated geopolitical tensions, ELVIRA formed part of the multi-layered surveillance protecting heads of state and government at this important summit.

2018 – NATO Summit, Brussels

This important NATO Summit required coordinated international security efforts across multiple jurisdictions. ELVIRA’s detection capabilities reinforced the integrity of highly protected airspace during the summit’s critical decision-making sessions.

How it reached its deployment position was just as impressive as the radar’s performance itself (involving a helicopter and a very brave engineer)!

Engineering breakthroughs

Let’s rewind to the gruelling engineering that made every deployment a success. Though ELVIRA was created at pace, that certainly didn’t detract from any of the glaring innovations of its time.

Over the years, ELVIRA continued to undergo pivotal advancements that enhanced capabilities, durability, and integration potential.

Micro-Doppler capability: Micro-doppler refers to movements within a moving target. Radars like ELVIRA can detect speed differences within the reflecting target, and that's how it identifies the presence of rotor blades and rotating parts.

Established in ELVIRA, we now use and refine the very same technology in IRIS.

Dyneema radome: ELVIRA was our first radar system to incorporate a radome made from Dyneema®, an ultra-high-molecular-weight fibre known for its exceptional strength-to-weight ratio. The very same material is used in bulletproof vests (and IRIS).

Integration of optional camera: A modular upgrade introduced the option to mount a high-resolution camera directly atop the radome. This feature provided real-time visual confirmation alongside radar detection, enhancing situational awareness in complex monitoring scenarios.

Transition to brushless DC drive: Later versions replaced the traditional 220V AC motor with a brushless DC (BLDC) drive. That meant a critical step in energy efficiency, as well as establishing noise-free operation.

High-efficiency power amplifier: ELVIRA’s already-respectable range benefited from successive power amplifier upgrades. As well as greater detection range, the improvements laid the groundwork for our next-generation avian radar, MAX, which inherited the same one.

Real-time API integration: ELVIRA became the first in our lineup to feature real-time APIs, supporting seamless interoperability with third-party software and control systems.

Triumphs in testing

Every engineering milestone ELVIRA made was sealed in hundreds of testing cycles. Some sent us back to the drawing board, others made leaps and bounds in formidable detection, classification and tracking powers.

From rapid prototyping under time constraints to performance trials in extreme environments, here are a few stand-out moments:

Rapid Prototyping: ELVIRA is the only radar prototype we’ve had up and running within a day. A functional prototype was constructed in under 24 hours, bringing field tests forward significantly.

Micro-Doppler in action: Developing a wholly new technology is always nail-biting. So, when ELVIRA detected Doppler signatures of drones in real-life testing, it's safe to say the team were elated.

Field trials at Oberjettenberg for G7 Summit: ELVIRA was selected for integration testing at Oberjettenberg, a key location in Germany’s Alpine region, ahead of the 2015 G7 Summit. These trials ensured ELVIRA could meet the demanding standards of high-security international deployments. It did, and then some.

First vehicle-mounted radar: By the end of 2016, ELVIRA became the first Robin radar to be integrated into a vehicle platform. This adaptation required redesigning mounting systems to stabilise the radar and allow defence and security teams to move and deploy it rapidly.

The radar that brought Robin into three dimensions

Our decision to discontinue the 2D ELVIRA underscores a laser focus on full, 360 awareness in 3D going forward. But we didn't take it lightly.

ELVIRA was our first jump into a challenging market, a proving ground for radar innovation, and a launchpad that propelled us into the defence and security space.

But as the threat landscape continues to evolve, so do we. We firmly believe that the future of drone detection is three-dimensional, where azimuth, elevation and range intersect in complex airspace with no room for doubt and no time to second-guess.

That’s why we’re pivoting innovation efforts fully to radars like IRIS, designed from the ground up to deploy faster than ever, offering 360° coverage with precise 3D insights.

Importantly, IRIS inherits and amplifies every lightbulb moment that made ELVIRA a true trailblazer in the C-UAS radar space.

In that way, ELVIRA will echo on in every scan, detection, and breakthrough the next generation of Robin Radar systems make.

Amman: A source from the Jordanian Armed Forces confirmed on Thursday that an explosive-laden drone crashed in the Azraq area after it failed to reach its intended target.

The drone veered off course due to a technical malfunction in its operating system, according to experts from the Royal Engineering Corps.

It fell next to a home in the Urban Development Zone, injuring two children and causing material damage.

The resulting explosion created a crater 3.2 metres wide and 90 centimetres deep, with debris scattered as far as 200 metres. Shrapnel also damaged the façade of a nearby house.

Civil Defense personnel, engineering teams, and security forces responded swiftly, evacuated the injured, and launched an investigation into the incident.

Another Suspected Drone Discovered in Kazakhstan’s Mangistau Region

On June 19, fragments of a suspicious object resembling an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) were discovered in the Karakiyan district of Kazakhstan’s Mangistau Region, near the Bolashak border station.

According to the Mangistau Region Police Department, the UAV debris was found in a remote area, far from populated settlements.

Authorities emphasized that “no damage” was reported. The incident is currently under investigation in cooperation with the relevant agencies.

Potential Iranian Link Suggested

While officials have not confirmed the origin or type of the device, speculation is growing. The KazTAG news agency reported that the shape of the debris may resemble that of an Iranian Shahed-136 drone.

These drones have been reportedly supplied by Iran to Russia since late 2022 and used extensively in the war in Ukraine.

According to independent sources, Russia may have paid Iran approximately 1.8 tons of gold, worth around $104 million, for a consignment of Shahed-136 drones.

Despite denials from both Moscow and Tehran, the drones’ deployment in Ukraine has been documented by independent journalists and military experts.

Meanwhile, pro-Kremlin sources have speculated that it could be a British Banshee drone used by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

Pattern Emerges Along Western Border

This is not an isolated occurrence. Since early 2024, at least three similar incidents have been recorded in the West Kazakhstan Region (WKR). UAVs or drone parts were discovered in the villages of Ualy (February 18), Atameken (March 18), and Zhanibek (March 25).

Regional media have noted that some of the discovered objects bear a resemblance to French-made Crecerelle reconnaissance drones, produced by Sagem. However, no official conclusions have been issued.

Broader Security Implications

The repeated discovery of drone-like objects in Kazakhstan raises broader security concerns, particularly given the proximity of Russian regions frequently targeted by Ukrainian drones. Strategic installations in Russia’s Saratov region, including airfields and oil depots, have been hit multiple times.

In this context, the unexplained appearance of aerial objects near Kazakhstan’s borders is concerning. Experts stress the need for transparent investigations and enhanced monitoring of airspace, especially near critical infrastructure and transportation corridors.

Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Defense previously stated that UAV fragments found in February and March 2025 may have originated from activities at Russia’s 929th State Flight Test Center, located near the Kazakh border.

The facility, named after Chkalov, is used by the Russian Ministry of Defense for testing military aircraft.

Chinese exports of rare earth magnets slumped further in May, with shipments to the US showing an especially steep drop due to the trade war with Washington.

Rare earth minerals, and the products that use the elements, have been at the center of the dispute since early April, when China imposed export controls in retaliation for punitive tariffs levied on Chinese goods. The two countries have since sought to reset relations, culminating in a meeting in London in early June, which prompted US President Donald Trump to declare that issues around rare earths had been resolved.

China accounts for about 90% of the world’s rare earth products, most of which are magnets, and whether it allows supplies to flow more freely after the agreement reached in London will be a key focus for governments and markets in the weeks and months to come.

Chinese customs data on Friday showed the extent of the impact on supplies of rare earth magnets in particular, an item vital for high-tech industries from carmakers to defense contractors. The controls have affected sales to all countries, with China’s total exports roughly halving in April, and then halving again in May, to 1,238 tons.

That comes to about $60 million, the lowest-value month in data going back to 2015, barring February 2020 and the onset of the pandemic.

The US portion by volume in May was just 46 tons, less than one-tenth of the magnets it imported in March. Other countries including Vietnam, host to a number of Chinese companies, and Germany saw their supplies hold up much better. Those two countries were the top destinations last month, accounting for 19% and 17% of sales, respectively.

Drone shots show stunning Buckie Harbour as Viking ship arrives ahead of Odyssey filming

The largest Viking ship in the world has docked at Buckie Harbour ahead of filming of The Odyssey.

Draken Harald Harfagre arrived at the town on Thursday afternoon, a few days after it was spotted at the Inverness Marina.

The impressive vessel joins the fleet of smaller Greek-style wooden ships spotted at the harbour earlier this month.

It is understood the ships will be used during filming of Christopher Nolan’s new blockbuster The Odyssey, which is set to debut in 2026.

There has also been activity at Buckie Loch, where equipment as well as trailers and tents have been spotted.

The Odyssey will be director Christopher Nolan’s first film since Oppenheimer.

It follows an ancient Greek tale – originally a poem by Homer – and details the journey of the ancient Greek King Odysseus, as he returns to his wife following the Trojan War.

Filming has already taken place in Morocco and Italy. A-list stars such as Tom Holland, Matt Damon and Zendaya have all been signed on for the project.

The Draken Harald Harfagre is called the “largest Viking ship sailing in modern times”.

In 2008, Norwegian entrepreneur Sigurd Aase worked with ship builders and historians in Scandinavia to start the project of creating a “really seaworthy” Viking ship.

Building of the ship began in Norway in 2012 and it launched in 2012. It has 25 pairs of oars and, under sail, it requires a crew of 30 people.

On their website, Sigurd Aase said:

“The aim of the Draken Harald Harfagre project is to explore the world and embrace the Viking spirit – to look beyond the horizon and seek adventure and to inspire people to take on challenges.”

NEW YORK/LONDON (Reuters) -Wall Street indexes tracked global stock markets modestly higher on Friday while oil dipped after U.S. President Donald Trump held off on a decision of whether to involve the U.S. military in the Israel-Iran conflict.

Israel and Iran continued trading attacks one week on from an Israeli assault on Iran, but markets took comfort after the White House said Trump will decide in the next two weeks whether the U.S. will intervene on Israel's side.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.42% in early trade, the S&P 500 popped up 0.24%, and the Nasdaq Composite edged up 0.1%.

"Any news flow that's going to lean in the direction of de-escalation is going to be a market positive, and we're seeing that to a certain extent here," said Art Hogan, chief market strategist at B. Riley Wealth.

Oil took a breather, with Brent down 2.9% to $76.56 per barrel, but the preceding days' surge still left it on course to post a weekly gain.

Europe's main bourses ended their session higher, (.EU) following similar gains across Asia, although it was touch and go whether MSCI's main world index would still rack up a second-straight weekly loss.

Uncertainty as to whether Trump would jump quickly into the Middle Eastern conflict, along with concerns about tariff-driven inflation flagged by the U.S. central bank, prompted market volatility earlier in the week.

Fears of disruption to global oil supplies had boosted prices. "Brent crude is down 2.5% today in the clearest sign that fears over an imminent escalation in the Israel/Iran conflict have eased," MUFG strategist Derek Halpenny said.

European foreign ministers were meeting their Iranian counterpart in Geneva on Friday, seeking a path back to diplomacy over its contested nuclear programme.

Asian shares had gained overnight thanks to a 1.2% jump in Hong Kong's Hang Seng, and as newly elected President Lee Jae Myung's stimulus plans saw South Korea's Kospi top 3,000 points for the first time since early 2022.

China's central bank held its benchmark lending rates steady as widely expected in Beijing, while data from Japan showed core inflation there hit a two-year high in May, keeping pressure on the Bank of Japan to resume interest rate hikes.

That in turn lifted the yen and pushed down the export-heavy Nikkei in Tokyo.

TREASURIES LOSE OUT

In the U.S. bond market, which was open again after a federal holiday on Thursday, benchmark 10-year notes rose 2.8 basis points to 4.423%, from 4.395% late on Wednesday.

"There's a bit of a risk-on trade going on, meaning people aren't really piling into Treasuries," said Tom di Galoma, managing director at Mischler Financial Group.

Yields had edged higher on Wednesday when Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell said borrowing costs are still likely to fall in 2025.

Powell cautioned against holding on too strongly to forecasts and said he expects "meaningful" inflation ahead as consumers pay more for goods due to the Trump administration's planned import tariffs.

The dollar was set for its biggest weekly rise in more than a month despite Friday's modest decline, indicating some investors still sought traditional safe havens.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against a basket of currencies including the yen and the euro, rose 0.15% to 98.82, with the euro up 0.1% at $1.1505.

But gold, another traditional refuge, fell 0.13% to $3,365.89 an ounce.

Misunderstanding Trump?

Many are now demanding that Trump act abroad in the way they think he had promised and campaigned–which can be mostly defined as how closely he should parallel their own version of MAGA.

But Trump’s past shows that he never claimed that he was either an ideological isolationist or an interventionist.

He was and is clearly a populist-nationalist: i.e., what in a cost-to-benefit analysisis in the best interests of the U.S. at home and its own particular agendas abroad?

Trump did not like neo-conservatismbecause he never felt it was in our interests to spend blood and treasure on those who either did not deserve such largess, or who would never evolve in ways we thought they should, or whose fates were not central to our national interests.

So-called, optional, bad-deal, and forever wars in the Middle East and their multitrillion-dollar costs would come ultimately at the expense of shorting Middle America back home.

However, Trump’s first-term bombing of ISIS, standing down “little rocket man”, warning Putin not to invade Ukraine between 2017-21, and killing off Qasem Soleimani, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, and many of the attacking Russian Wagner Group in Syriawere certainly not Charles Lindberg isolationism but a sort of Jacksonian—something summed up perhaps as the Gadsen “Don’t tread on me”/ or Lucius Sulla’s “No better friend, no worse enemy” .

Trump’s much critiqued references to Putin—most recently during the G7, and his negotiations with him over Ukraine—were never, as alleged, appeasement (he was harder in his first term on Putin than was either Obama or Biden), but art-of-the-deal/transactional (e.g., you don’t gratuitously insult or ostracize your formidable rival in possible deal-making, but seek simultaneously to praise—and beat—him.)

Similarly, Churchill initially saw the mass-murdering, treacherous Stalin in the way Trump perhaps sees Putin, someone dangerous and evil, but who if handled carefully, occasionally granted his due, and approached with eyes wide open, could be useful in advancing a country’s realist interests—which for Britain in 1941 was for Russia to kill three-quarters of Nazi Germany’s soldiers, and, mutatis mutandis, for the U.S. in 2025 to cease the mass killing near Europe, save most of an autonomous Ukraine, keep Russia back eastward as far as feasible, and in Kissingerian-style derail the developing Chinese and Russian anti-American axis.

Trump was never anti-Ukraine, but rather against a seemingly endless Verdun-like warin which after three years neither side had found a pathway to strategic resolution—a war from the distance fought between two like peoples, one with nuclear weapons, and on the doorstep of Europe.

African state calls for global financial reform

Mozambique’s minister of planning and development has invited Russia and developing nations to collaborate in building a fair world economic system

The statement was made by Mozambique’s minister of planning and development, Salim Vala, during the ‘Business dialogue Russia-Africa’ panel discussion at the 28th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) on Thursday.

Vala noted that while Mozambique holds substantial reserves of natural gas, rubies, gold, and coal, its most valuable asset remains its people. He highlighted the importance of unlocking the country’s full economic potential to improve the well-being of its 33.4 million citizens.

“We have a 20-year strategy,” Vala stated, explaining that Mozambique does not want to rely solely on oil and gas. Instead, the focus is on modernizing agriculture and advancing industrialization. “We must work together with Russia, with other African countries, and with other developing nations to create a new financial architecture, to develop enterprises and the private sector.”

Vala called for a shift in global perception, proposing a new narrative of “an Africa that is more educated, healthier, an Africa with the human capital and technologies that can ensure prosperity for its people.”

He added that cooperation with Russia and other African partners is essential for developing both social and economic infrastructure, which can in turn attract greater investment, generate employment, and reduce poverty and inequality.

Earlier in June, Eugenio Alberto Macumbe, the head of the Digital Governance Division at Mozambique’s Information and Communication Technology Regulatory Authority, also underscored the value of Russian engagement in development initiatives.

Speaking to RT, he saidMozambique is actively pursuing digital transformation and artificial intelligence strategies, and stressed the importance of learning from countries like Russia, which he said is “very advanced in this process.”

Usually, Trump prefaced the war as a nonsensical wastage of life, at staggering human cost that his supposedly more humane and sophisticated critics never mentioned all that much.

At best, one could say Trump really did lament the horrific loss of life, and at the least, as a builder and deal-maker, wars for him rarely made any practical business sense, i.e., it seems wiser to build things and mutually profit than to blow them up and impoverish all involved.

Add it all up, and what Trump is doing vis-à-vis Iran seems in line with what he has said and done about “America First”.

He sees Israel’s interests in neutering the nuclear agendas of the thuggish and dangerous Iran as strategically similar to those of our own and our allies—but not necessarily tactically in every instance identically so.

Thus, Trump wants the Iranian nuclear threat taken out by Israel—if feasible. And he will help facilitate that aim logistically and diplomatically.

If it is not possible for Israel to finish the task, in a cost-to-benefit analysis he will take it out—but, again, only after he is convinced that the end of Iran’s nukes and our intervention far outweigh the dangers of a superpower intervention, attacks on U.S. installations in the region, a wider, ongoing American commitment, spiraling oil prices, or distractions or even injury to his ambitious domestic agenda.

Trump is willing to talk to the Iranians, rarely insults their thuggish leaders, and wants to show that he always preferred exhausting negotiations to preemptive war.

That patience allows him to say legitimately that force was his last choice—as he sees all the alternatives waning.

Thus, Iran’s fate was in its own hands, either to be a non-nuclear rich state analogous to the Gulf States but no longer a half-century rogue terrorist regime seeking to overturn and then appropriate the Middle East order and to threaten the West with nukes.

Tactically, Trump thinks out loud. He offers numerous possible solutions, issues threats, and deadlines (some rhetorical or negotiable, others literal and ironclad). He alternates between sounding like a UN diplomat and a Cold War hawk, and sometime pivots and reverses himself as situations change.

All this can confuse his allies, but perhaps confounds more his enemies.

In sum, he believes as far as enemies go, public predictability is dangerous—unpredictability even volatility being the safer course.

Add it all up, and there is a reason why Putin did not invade Ukraine during Trump’s first term;why for the first time in nearly 50 years the Middle East has some chance at normality with the demise of the Iran’s Shia crescent of terror; and why Europe and our Asian allies may be more irritated by Trump than by Obama and Biden, but also probably feel that he is more likely to defend their shared Western interests in extremis, and will lead a far stronger and more deterrent West than his predecessors, one that will prevent war by assuring others that it is suicidal to attack the U.S.

CDC Advisers Ousted By RFK Jr. Voted On Vaccines Despite Conflicts

Multiple people who until early June served on a federal vaccine advisory committee cast votes on vaccines despite receiving or recently receiving money from pharmaceutical companies that stood to be affected by the votes, according to an Epoch Times review.

Dr. Helen Y. Chu, a professor of medicine and allergy and infectious diseases at the University of Washington, reported throughout 2024 receiving funds from Merck, among other pharmaceutical companies. In October 2024, in her first meeting as a member of the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), Chu voted in favor of expanding recommendations for vaccination against pneumococcal disease.

Merck manufactures multiple pneumococcal conjugate vaccines.

Chu did not submit any conflict of interest disclosures for the meeting, according to a CDC database.

ACIP advises the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on vaccines. Members “are required to declare any potential conflicts of interest that arise in the course of ACIP tenure,” according to the CDC’s website. Members who declare perceived or actual conflicts of interest, the site says, “will be asked to recuse themselves from participating in the discussion and decision-making of the issues relating to that interest.”

ACIP rules state that to be considered for appointment to the panel, potential members must resign from any roles with a vaccine manufacturer, with exceptions for service on data monitoring boards and participation in clinical trials. The rules refer to a federal law that says special government employees such as ACIP members are barred by criminal statute “from participating personally and substantially in an official capacity in any particular matter in which, to his knowledge, he or any other person specified in the statute has a financial interest, if the particular matter will have a direct and predictable effect on that interest.”

Speaking on Friday at a plenary session of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, Putin stated that throughout the past several decades, the so-called ‘golden billion’ has been pumping out resources from other nations to benefit the interests of a narrow circle of elites. He pointed to the example of the US, saying the country’s “super incomes” never actually reached ordinary citizens or the middle class.

The Russian president insisted that changes in the political sphere should be reflected in the people’s quality of life, in education, science, and infrastructure. He called for a “fundamentally new development model, one that is not built on the rules of neocolonialism.”

Putin added that the old mechanisms of the globalization era have outlived their usefulness, and there isn’t even an effort to modernize them. Instead, it is now necessary to create a new model, taking into account the national interests of all states, he said.

The Russian president stated that the global economy is already undergoing its biggest transformation in decades, with the balance of power shifting and BRICS emerging as a leading force.

Putin went on to say that BRICS now accounts for 40% of the global economy, and that this share will only grow given the rise of the Global South.

Unveiling the Biblical and Moral Flaws of Christian Zionism

Christian Zionism: A Theological Contradiction and Political Liability

In recent decades, a growing number of American evangelicals have embraced what’s commonly called Christian Zionism—the belief that Christians are biblically obligated to support the modern political state of Israel. At first glance, this alliance appears rooted in shared values, spiritual heritage, and prophetic fulfillment. Yet when examined under the scrutiny of Scripture, Church History, and moral consistency, Christian Zionism emerges as a theological oxymoron. It is also, arguably, a subtle rejection of the very gospel it claims to uphold.

I. Christian Zionism Is Unbiblical

From a biblical standpoint, Christian Zionism crumbles under New Testament teaching.

Abraham’s Promises Are Fulfilled in Christ

Christian Zionists often cite Genesis 12:3—”I will bless those who bless you”—as justification for their unwavering support of Israel. But Paul clarifies in Galatians 3:16 that “the promises were made to Abraham and to his seed… and that seed is Christ.” He further declares in verse 28 that in Christ, “there is neither Jew nor Greek… for you are all one in Christ Jesus.”

This means that the Abrahamic covenant is not fulfilled in a secular nation-state but in Christ’s body-the Church. Romans 9:6 states, “Not all who are descended from Israel are Israel.” To reattach God’s promises to ethnic or geopolitical lineage is a form of theological regression.

Jesus rejected nationalistic kingdoms

In John 18:36, Jesus says, “My kingdom is not of this world.” His mission was not to restore a physical kingdom of Israel but to inaugurate the Kingdom of God. Christian Zionism inverts this, rooting its eschatology in nationalist politics rather than in the crucified and risen Christ.

The Church is the New Israel

The Apostle Peter refers to the Church as “a chosen race, a royal priesthood, and a holy nation” (1 Peter 2:9), a language once reserved for ethnic Israel. Paul calls the Church the “Israel of God” in Galatians 6:16. This was the unanimous view of the early Church Fathers—Augustine, Justin Martyr, and Origen among them. They affirmed supersessionism (or fulfillment theology): that the Church has inherited Israel’s role, not through replacement, but through fulfillment in Christ.

A former military officer who lost his career as a result of the COVID-19 shot mandate may now lose his second career over his objection to the so-called vaccine.

Joshua Zermeno, a former Space Force officer, served in the U.S. military for 13 years. In August 2021, when the Department of Defense (DoD) issued the COVID-19 shot mandate for all service members, he told The Gateway Pundit, he questioned its efficacy and legality—and chose not to comply.

Within months, he received two Letters of Reprimand (LORs), a “Do Not Promote” recommendation that blocked his promotion to Major, and was banned from government buildings, forced to telework.

In October 2021, Zermeno said, the Department of the Air Force introduced a voluntary separation option for those who refused the shot. He applied with his squadron commander’s approval, but base leadership and the Director of the Secretary of the Air Force Personnel Council denied it, citing it was “not in the best interest of the Air Force and Space Force.”

Seven days later, base leadership initiated Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) action against him, a process that lasted 11 months. In January 2023, former Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin rescinded the mandate and ordered the removal of all punishments and correction of records. However, Zermeno’s chain of command did not comply, passing him over for promotion a second time due to his refusal of the shot. Seven months later, he was involuntarily separated, a decision disguised as a “failure to promote” despite documentation showing his refusal as the sole reason.

When President Donald Trump announced the reinstatement of service members separated for refusing the COVID-19 shot, Zermeno admitted he immediately drove to Vandenberg Space Force Base to inquire about reinstatement. But according to him, “Not a single office could provide guidance, leading me to contact the Air Force’s Total Force Service Center, which handles Space Force matters.”

“They also reported having ‘zero guidance’ from the Department of Defense but opened a ‘ticket’ to follow up, [and] for two months, weekly calls yielded the same response,” he shared.

In the early morning hours of June 14th, Senator John Hoffman and his wife Yvette were shot in the entryway of their Champlin home. Their adult daughter, Hope, was present and was also threatened by the shooter. Senator Hoffman is in critical but stable condition; Yvette Hoffman is in stable condition, as well. But now in recovery from their injuries, they are releasing the following statement for the record:

Because we have been hospitalized and receiving medical care, we have not been able to provide much information regarding the horrible circumstances of June 14th, but would now like to provide a statement offering more clarity of what happened.

After having attended the Humphrey Mondale dinner on Friday, June 13th, we returned to our home, joined there by our adult daughter, Hope. At approximately 2:00 a.m., we were all awakened by the sounds of pounding on the front door and shouts of someone seeking entry, identifying himself as a police officer. When the door was opened, all three of us were in the entryway. John initially lunged at the gunman as the weapon was pointed directly at him, getting struck nine times. As John fell, Yvette reached out to push the man and shut the door, succeeding before she was also hit eight times by gunfire. Hope then rushed to shut the door and secured the lock; she got to the phone and shared with the 911 operator that Senator John Hoffman had been shot in his home. Her brave actions and quick thinking triggered the notice to public safety officials that a politically-motivated act was potentially underway.

As we continue to receive medical care, we are deeply grateful for those providers, for the first responders and for all those in law enforcement who worked so quickly, professionally and selflessly to safeguard others and to apprehend the shooter, starting with our own

officers in Champlin and Brooklyn Park.

We are heartbroken to know that our friends Melissa and Mark Hortman were assassinated. Our daughter Hope and Sophie Hortman went to school together, and we know that they – along with Colin Hortman – will have each other’s support as we all work through the devastating consequences of that horrific night. We want to thank all those at Fernbrook School behind the GoFundMe account – you will be helping us pick up the broken pieces of our lives. We are uplifted by the prayers and support from so many across the state of Minnesota and the country: thank you.

Choosing to work in the public sector, even in as limited a way as John’s career as a senator, has always meant sacrificing a level of privacy. Telegram founder and CEO Pavel Durov has announced plans to leave his fortune to the more than 100 children he has fathered. However, they won’t have access to their inheritance until 30 years from now, the Russian-born entrepreneur told French newspaper Le Point on Wednesday.

Durov, who holds Russian, French, UAE, and St. Kitts and Nevis passports,said he is the official father of six children with three different partners – though he added that he has fathered over 100 children in 12 countries through sperm donation.

Boeing secures target drone contract update

The U.S. Air Force has awarded Boeing a $10.2 million contract modification related to its production of QF-16 full-scale aerial targets, according to a June 4 announcement from the Department of Defense.

Ilhan Omar Deletes Juneteenth Post After Called Out for Present Day Slavery in Somalia

Somalia refugee Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) deleted a Juneteenth post on slavery Thursday after being called out for slavery currently being practiced in her home country. A different Juneteenth message by Omar that did not mention slavery remains online.

Omar originally posted, “160 years ago on June 19, 1865, slavery ended in this country. Today, we celebrate Black freedom, resilience, and achievement, and continue the work to root out systematic racism from our policies and institutions.”

At 1:10 p.m. EDT, MAGA poster Gunther Eagleman replied, “Somalia still has slaves. Ilhan should go fight to free her own people.”

At 1:23 p.m., Eagleman posted, “She deleted her post.”

Another Juneteenth post by Omar remains, “On Juneteenth, we remember that freedom is not always swift but it is always worth the fight. It’s a powerful reminder of how long justice can take to reach those who deserve it most.

Today, we celebrate Black freedom, resilience, and achievement, and continue the work to root out systematic racism from our policies and institutions.”
