The statement "not even the angels in heaven know" is a central part of Jesus' teaching regarding the timing of His return. According to the Gospels of Matthew and Mark, the precise day and hour of the Son of Man's coming are unknown to all except God the Father. This includes the angels in heaven, who are explicitly stated to lack this knowledge.

The verse from Matthew 24:36 affirms that "no one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father".

Similarly, Mark 13:32 states, "But of that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father".

This teaching emphasizes the divine secrecy surrounding the event. and calls for constant vigilance and readiness among believers.

This is what is taught but here is the higher meaning:

Oregon's Thursday filing explains the panel's earlier decision-making when granting the Trump administration the stay, at length:

The panel majority held that defendants were likely to prevail under 10 U.S.C. § 12406(3) because the record showed a colorable inability to execute federal law. Central to that determination was the majority's acceptance of defendants' averments that protests had forced the redeployment of115Federal Protection Service officers, "nearly 25% of FPS officers nationwide," to Portland. The dissent noted that defendants' declaration on the actual extent of the deployment was "carefully worded" to the point of "vague." But defendants' counsel emphasized at oral argument the "magnitude" and "unsustainab[ility]" of having115FPS offices redeployed; then, when asked directly whether all115officers remained in Portland, counsel stated only that "some" had gone home but "many" remained.

Those numbers, as it turns out, were greatly exaggerated.

In discovery produced Wednesday night, the government "admitted that115FPS officers have never been redeployed to Portland." Rather, the Beaver State says, "[o]nly a fraction of that number was ever in Portland at any given time before the President's directive."

Citing four separate time frames, the discovery showed deployments of27troops,31troops,29troops, and20troops in Portland at any given time between the middle of June and end of October.

Scientists reveal all the strange behaviors of interstellar visitor 3I/ATLAS that deepen the mystery of its origins

The interstellar object traveling through our solar system has just made its most startling move yet, appearing to reverse thrust as it disappeared behind our sun.

It's the latest in a growing list of puzzling clues that some scientists have claimed prove that the object dubbed 3I/ATLAS is not just an ordinary comet from a distant solar system.

Harvard physicist Avi Loeb has been among the leading voices maintaining that there is enough evidence to say 3I/ATLAS has shown signs of being guided by an unknown intelligence.

The next clue could emerge on October 29, when the object is projected to reach its closest point to the sun.

Loeb told the Daily Mail that if 3I/ATLAS comes out of this blind spot in a completely different place than gravity was taking it, it would be a clear sign the object was artificial and likely powered by some kind of engine.

Most astronomers have been reluctant to consider the possibility of an extraterrestrial origin, noting that the space rock has shown the classic signs of being a comet, including having a tail and a coma, a large cloud of gas and dust surrounding it.

Previous studies throughout the summer have concluded that 3I/ATLAS's strange chemical makeup, rich in carbon dioxide gas, is merely a result of forming in a solar system completely foreign to our own.

However, Loeb contends that those in the scientific community who have dismissed the more extraordinary possibilities are more concerned with being right and avoiding criticism than alerting the public to a potentially world-changing event.

'Here we are talking about a potential for something that could affect humanity in the future in a dramatic way, and so you shouldn't apply the same approach of being as conservative as possible,' Loeb explained.

'I don't want to be their therapist, but they're trying to obviously protect their reputation, not take risks, and also pretend that they know the answer in advance,' he added.

Daily Mail reached out to several scientists who have been studying the alleged comet, but did not receive a response to our request to comment on the latest findings.

A study in August detected an unusual nickel plume from the object. Unlike natural comets, which always emit nickel alongside iron, 3I/ATLAS showed the metallic element without any detectable iron.

The new study, published by astrophysicists in Chile, found that 3I/ATLAS is shedding nickel at roughly five grams per second and cyanide at 20 grams per second, with both rising sharply as the object moves closer to the sun.

Researchers noted that the mechanisms driving these emissions are not typical of natural cometary processes.

Scans of 3I/ATLAS, released the same month, suggested it is likely an unusual comet that's much smaller than it previously appeared and is unexpectedly releasing loads of carbon dioxide gas (CO2).

The large amount of CO2 pouring out, about 940 trillion molecules per second, was a major finding, suggesting 3I/ATLAS formed in a star system that doesn't look anything like ours, where comets are much different than the ones we see orbiting our sun.

Based on all the light coming from 3I/ATLAS, scientists originally suspected the object was more than 12 miles in diameter/ However, NASA's most powerful telescopes have cut that estimate down to 1.7 miles.

The comet seemed larger because over 99 percent of the light observed came from a large, bright cloud of dust and gas surrounding it, called a coma. 3I/ATLAS is currently about 298 million miles from Earth.

Not only is the interstellar object much smaller, but a new study by NASA's SPHEREx telescope discovered that 3I/ATLAS is releasing a large amount of CO2 and is covered in water ice.

This month, NASA's Perseverance rover on the Martian surface sent back photos of the object, showing what appears to be a massive cylindrical shape.

Stargazers on social media shared color-enhanced images of the object, dubbed 3I/ATLAS, which showed the interstellar visitor having a green glow as it passed Mars and heads closer to the sun.

Loeb analyzed the Perseverance rover's photos by calculating its distance, speed, and camera settings.

According to his initial study, Loeb was not convinced that 3I/ATLAS is actually a massive cylindrical object, noting that the strange shape might have been a trick of the rover's camera stretching out its shape.

He explained that the apparent cylinder from the rover's 'Navcam' was likely caused by the camera stacking hundreds of images of 3I/ATLAS over a period of about 10 minutes, making it look more like a log than a ball.

The professor added that 3I/ATLAS is likely smaller and rounder, but still massive, with a potential diameter of more than 28 miles across.

More than five studies, with dozens of researchers involved, have concluded that the object is just a unique, natural comet, which many other scientists have been echoing for months.

Jonathan McDowell, an astronomer and astrophysicist working at the Harvard–Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, previously claimed: 'It is clearly a natural comet; suggestions to the contrary are laughed at by people who are actual comet experts.'

UCLA research David Jewitt recently agreed with the comet theory, publishing a paper that explained the object's shifting tail as it moved behind the sun as normal cometary behavior.

An international team of researchers also concluded that the increasing dust activity around 3I/ATLAS, its changing color, and apparent lack of a tail were due to our perspective from Earth at the time of the scans, not the comet acting strangely.

First spotted on July 1, 3I/ATLAS is just the third recorded object to travel through our solar system from another point in the Milky Way galaxy.

The other two, Oumuamua in 2017 and the comet Borisov in 2019, were nowhere near the size and mass of 3I/ATLAS, which Loeb has calculated to be at least 3.1 miles long and 33 billion tons.

Loeb explained that the object's size is yet another clue that it may not be a comet, as there isn't enough rocky material in interstellar space to have created such a structure naturally.

'It's bigger than the asteroid that killed a dinosaur 66 million years ago, and such objects are extremely rare. It would have been on the order of 10 million times more massive than Oumuamua and 10,000 times more massive than Borisov,' Loeb revealed.

However, the scientist said his first clue that something wasn't adding up with 3I/ATLAS was the sheer brightness of the object while it was still far away from our planet and the sun.

The supposed comet's backward 'anti-tail,' its strange course taking it close to three planets, and its unique chemical combination of nickel and carbon dioxide have all contributed to a growing belief that 3I/ATLAS is not a floating space rock.

Loeb noted that one oddity would be explainable, but he calculated that there were no fewer than eight anomalies with this space rock.

The scientist calculated that the odds of these strange occurrences happening at the same time were one in 10,000,000,000,000,000 (that's 10quadrillion).

Despite not being projected to collide with the planet, NASA took the extraordinary step of adding 3I/ATLAS to the list of threats tracked by a United Nations-endorsed group focused on planetary defense against near-Earth objects.

The decision has helped to mobilize all of the world's telescopes to observe the interstellar visitor, with 227 observatories already tracking it.

Loeb noted that 3I/ATLAS will make its closest approach to Earth on December 19 and NASA is planning to take even more detailed readings of the object as it approaches the Juno spacecraft near Jupiter on March 16, 2026.

'We should not miss an opportunity, because this is a gift from interstellar space,' the Harvard professor explained.

Loeb concluded by saying the arrival of 3I/ATLAS and the recent visit of Oumuamua just eight years ago cannot be dismissed as random events in the cosmos.

'What nature is trying to tell us is that we don't understand something.'

The First Interstellar Car in NASCAR’s History

On October 25, 2025, I attended the NASCAR car race in Bakersfield, California.

The racers were all ecstatic about the interstellar object 3I/ATLAS because of its high speed of 68 kilometers per second on its approach to perihelion on October 29, 2025.

3I/ATLAS is 600 times faster than the best of these cars.

One of the qualified NASCAR racers, Alex Malycke, was so impressed by the 8 anomalies of 3I/ATLAS described in my research (summarized here), that he chose to feature images of me and 3I/ATLAS on the hood of his car.

He labeled it the first “interstellar car” in NASCAR’s history.

On January 2, 2025, the Minor Planet Center catalogued a new near-Earth asteroid, only to realize a day later that it is the Tesla Roadster car launched by SpaceX under the leadership of Elon Musk as a dummy payload on the Falcon Heavy rocket.

The Tesla Roadster will remain a solar system car because it is bound by the Sun’s gravity. However, the Milky Way galaxy might have hosted a more accomplished space entrepreneur than Elon Musk over the past few billion years.

If so, the Rubin Observatory might discover interstellar cars as they enter the inner Solar System at a speed that is hundreds of times faster than found in NASCAR races.

If Alex had been able to launch his car above the escape speed of the solar system from Bakersfield Speedway, then his car would have been truly interstellar.

The required speed is comparable to that of 3I/ATLAS. A major challenge at that speed would have been to survive the fireball generated by the friction of the car with the Earth’s atmosphere.

Given the existential risk posed by this fireball, the limited horsepower of Alex’s car engine should be regarded as a blessing since it keeps Alex down to Earth.

Alex got me into his car and taught me how to drive it while this crash course was filmed by Netflix for a documentary to be released by mid 2026.

Next to Alex’s car, I met one of the contenders to the NASCAR championship, Vito Cancilla, a 14-year-old high-schooler who started racing at age 4 following a family tradition — as his grandfather was a hall-of-fame racer.

I told Vito that if he has any questions on how physics might help to enhance the performance of his car, I will be glad to serve as his scientific advisor.

“I did not have a class in physics as of yet,” Vito admitted with a smile, to which I replied: “Physics works irrespective of whether both of us understand it.”

Alex gave a brilliant tutorial on various techniques used to improve the performance of race cars.

It occurred to me that there might be room for future improvements, taking advantage of small effects like heat redistribution on the expansion of the car’s frame.

Following Alex’s tutorial, I asked Alex and Vito whether a self-driving car could in principle win the NASCAR championship by optimizing its racing strategy with the aid of suitable sensors and artificial intelligence.

The answer is likely in the affirmative, if only someone had the incentive to develop such a car. But as in any sport, the goal in car racing is to compare human performances even when machines can outperform them.

Will a truly interstellar car be guided by artificial or natural intelligence? It is reasonable to expect that out-of-this-world machines might be favored over biological pilots for long-duration interstellar journeys given the harsh conditions of space.

Here’s hoping that future data on interstellar objects, like 3I/ATLAS, would deliver a reliable answer to this question. As on the NASCAR Speedway, the outcome of interstellar races is decided through observations.

As I was leaving the parking lot, Alex and Vito came to shake my hand and ask: “Is 3I/ATLAS a natural comet or alien technology?” I replied that a picture is worth a thousand words.

The highest resolution images of 3I/ATLAS were taken by the HiRISE camera onboard the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter on October 2, 2025 with 30 kilometers per pixel and a first sideway view relative to the direction of the Sun. Unfortunately, the release of this data is delayed by the U.S. government shutdown.

The disappointment on the faces of Alex and Vito made it clear that delay is contradictory to the NASCAR spirit. Gladly, the brilliant congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna promised to expedite the release of NASA’s data in a message that she sent me at the end of the race.

On the way back to my hotel, I received an email that was the cherry on top of my delightful day. It read as follows:

“Dear Professor Loeb,

I know it’s probably a nuisance of me to send fluff to your professional email, however I couldn’t find a better way to get in touch and felt compelled to at least write a few words of appreciation after enjoying your work and media appearances for the last few years and seeing you come frequently under fire from your peers and sections of science media.

It has been refreshing and in some way comforting to see a tenured Academic pushing the envelope on scientific inquiry and open minded dialogue around the possibility of recent cosmic phenomena being of technological origin.

Whether you are right or wrong, the importance of having someone of your credibility maintain and encourage these conversations I think can’t be understated.

I’m not sure how many people write to you to say thanks for your work (and by the looks of things you probably get quite a few emails that state quite the opposite), but as someone with a deep lifelong passion for the natural sciences, in particular astrophysics and all the wonderful ideas that branch out from it, your work, ideas and discussions have been more valuable to me as a curious person, than some of the cold hard scientific discoveries of the last few years.

Please do not stop, no matter how much people cry about it. It’s fun, interesting, and if you end up being right, boy are some people going to feel stupid.

I really enjoyed your book ET — The First Sign of Intelligent Life. It was a great read — I also got the audiobook (but you should’ve been the narrator!).

Your book made me want to jump into a discussion about the ideas as I was reading it, but it is very hard to find minds that are both scientifically sound and intellectually humble enough to admit that there are things that we cannot know until we rule them out. Lockhart, famous for playing other nurturing characters on two other CBS shows in the 1960s — the matriarch on the sci-fi drama Lost in Space and the “lady doctor” on the rural sitcom Petticoat Junction — died Thursday of natural causes at her home in Santa Monica, a family spokesperson announced.

Her father was the great character actor Gene Lockhart — he received an Oscar nomination in 1939 for Algiers and appeared in such classics as His Girl Friday, Abe Lincoln in Illinois, Meet John Doe and Miracle on 34th Street — and her mother was actress Kathleen Lockhart (Lady in the Lake).

Her parents, who were introduced to each other by Thomas Edison when they barnstormed for him as he trotted out one of his inventions, the phonograph, appeared together as husband and wife Bob and Emily Cratchit in MGM’s A Christmas Carol (1938), and June made her movie debut in that film as one of their kids.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced Sunday that he has reached a “very substantial framework” with Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng on a deal aimed at easing trade tensions between the world’s two largest economies.

Mr. Bessent said the Trump administration will withdraw its threat to impose a 100% tariff on Chinese imports and Beijing will shelve its plans to restrict rare earth exports. He emphasized that the agreement would benefit American farmers and bolster efforts to combat the fentanyl crisis.

“I think we’ve reached a substantial framework for the two leaders who will meet in Korea next Thursday,” Mr. Bessent said on ABC’s “This Week.”

See Comet Lemmon cross paths with a cosmic serpent tonight

Comet Lemmon will cut through the neck of a cosmic serpent on the night of Oct. 26, when it passes through the stars of the constellation Serpens Caput ahead of its close approach to the sun in early November.

The wandering comet Comet C/2025 A6 (Lemmon) was discovered on Jan. 3 earlier this year and has been brightening dramatically over the course of its subsequent headlong dive into the inner solar system.

The brightening occurred as an increase in heat radiation from the sun vaporized icy materials embedded in its structure, creating a gaseous shell around its nucleus.

The cometary material was then caught up in the solar wind, leading to the formation of a visually spectacular tail that shines in the reflected light of the sun.

Comet Lemmon is currently estimated to have a magnitude of around +4.3 according to the Comet Observation Database (COBS) run by the Crni Vrh Observatory in Slovenia, which should make it visible to the unaided eye from dark sky locations.

Look to the western horizon from a dark sky location at sunset on Oct. 26 to find Comet Lemmon's hazy light shine directly beneath the triangle formation of stars representing the head of the great snake in the constellation Serpens Caput.

By the following night, the comet will have cut through the neck of the celestial serpent to approach the constellation Ophiuchus, the "snake bearer".

Serpens is the only constellation that appears in two halves in the night sky, with Serpens Caput appearing to the right of the constellation Ophiuchus, with Serpens Cauda — the tail — appearing to the snake bearer's left.

"Don't blame me, I voted for Kodos"

"Foolish, Earthlings!" The line most commonly uttered by two drooling aliens who have become a staple of "The Simpsons"' famed Treehouse of Horror episodes – Kang and Kodos.

No, literally, they're in every single one, which is an impressive feat, 34 and counting. From major plotlines to brief cameos, they are the unofficial "Where's Waldo?" of Matt Groening's world and beloved (albeit feared) figureheads of the spooky specials.

On a much deeper level, Kang and Kodos are Springfield's answer to the spinning top of "Inception", the calling card that helps you realise, 'phew, I'm watching a Halloween special of "The Simpsons" and this isn't, actually, real life at all.'

But seeing Kang and Kodos is also just a bit of fun, if you don't want to get that deep.

Growing up with Treehouse of Horror, from fresh episodes to spending my pocket money on the comic books, I've developed a complicated relationship with the aliens that I love, but also think are kind of gross.

And, as we reach over 30 years of Treehouse of Horror (the original episode aired on October 25, 1990), it feels important to take a look back on what Kang and Kodos have actually taught us about space, how they fit into sci-fi history, and what we've learnt about extraterrestrial life.

Kang and Kodos are two aliens from Rigel VII, and while in season seven, Kang referred to Kodos as his sister, despite only having a slightly higher-than-Kang voice, they've established themselves as gender ambiguous.

In fact, in season 30, Kodos reveals they have 32 sexual identities when growing intimate with Patty, Marge's sister.

Like many alien depictions in popular culture (but not all, here's to you, E.T.), they're pretty hellbent on destroying humanity and taking over the world, or Springfield at the very least.

And let's not forget a few classic alien behaviorisms like probing and the bio-duplication in 1996's Treehouse of Horror VII of then-President Bill Clinton for good measure.

But being evil aliens wasn't always on the cards. In their first-ever appearance, in Treehouse of Horror I, they were merely trying to make friends.

Titled "Hungry are the Damned", the Simpsons family gets abducted by Kang and Kodos and is welcomed aboard the spaceship of the one-eyed, slimy-mouthed, Rigellian-speaking aliens.

Fortunately, and if by writer's magic, Rigellian is an exact match to English, and so we can understand this extraterrestrial chatter.

They explain that they want to take the Simpsons to Rigel IV, "a world of infinite delights to tantalize the senses and challenge your intellectual limitations".

But, as Sherak the Preparer (voiced by the legendary James Earl Jones, I might add), begins to fatten them up with luxurious meals, Lisa grows suspicious.

In one of my favourite moments of Treehouse of Horror history, a misconstrued book seemingly called "How to Cook Humans" is dusted away to reveal it actually says: "How to Cook for Forty Humans", in an amusing homage to the classic Twilight Zone episode "To Serve Man".

It's this assumption of wicked alien behavior from humanity that upsets them, prompting Kang and Kodos to drop the Simpsons back at home and set a target over Springfield for good.

As Lisa so poignantly says at the segment's conclusion: "There were monsters on that ship, and truly we were them".

From there on out, Kang and Kodos were set on a mission to do bad things to the Simpsons and their hometown, seemingly in retaliation for Lisa's accusations.

And so, throughout the last 30 years, they've made numerous attempts to take over the world, and have actually been successful in a couple of them.

Though in keeping with classic Treehouse of Horror episodes, everything returns back to normal after the conclusion of each annual spookfest.

But world domination isn't the only interest of these aliens. We've witnessed them voted in as President or Earth's liberators and even as Selma and Patty's lovers.

That's not the only case of intergalactic romance, either, as who can forget when Kang, in a bid to cement the Rigellians' position in sci-fi history, impregnated Marge and fathered Maggie.

Aside from birthing the show's first hybrid alien-human baby, it also spawned one of my favorite Jerry Springer parody episodes: "Wife knocked boots with Space Stud!".

Most of the time, though, as joked by Kang and Kodos themselves, they are written into the show as background cameos or to simply narrate their observations from their spaceship, laughing at us, maniacally.

According to showrunner and executive producer David Mirkin, these laughs sometimes just serve as a tool to make sure the episodes are the correct length for broadcast.

Sci-fi can certainly just be a little bit of fun with Kang and Kodos becoming Rocky & Bullwinkle, quoting Mork & Mindy ("D'oh. Shazbot"), and dancing in the Charlie Brown parody.

And, in sci-fi moments I'll never forget, there's Kang's daughter taking Bart's virginity in Avatar parody episode, "In the Na'vi", or Selma and Kang making sweet intergalactic love in "When Harry Met Slimy".

There's also a few references that Kang and Kodos are simply hired actors in Treehouse of Horror, normalizing their position in the show and adding light and humor to the aliens, despite their penchant for world domination and evading dissection.

At the end of it all, "The Simpsons" is doing exactly what it does best, making fun of some pretty serious situations.

And given that Space.com itself is actually featured in one of the Treehouse of Horror episodes (well, Thanksgiving of Horror technically), we feel a special bond with these extraterrestrial goofballs.

Our real-life search for aliens has proved a lot less fruitful than those of the Simpson family, but given "The Simpsons" propensity for eerily accurate futuristic predictions like smartwatches, the Apple Vision Pro, and President Trump, who's to say Kang and Kodos aren't out there somewhere, laughing at us with constant drool hanging out of their mouths?

While I don't condone a 30-plus-year grudge, it didn't take all that much convincing for Kang and Kodos to become the invading aliens that have so often been portrayed in popular culture.

But as Kang (or was it Kodos) once said, "In Rigellian, there are no words as yours or mine," so maybe they just want to be loved, included, and praised for their acting prowess, and maybe we're the selfish ones for sometimes nearly forgetting to include them in an episode at all.
