Moronic Republican David Schweikert Proposes Obamacare On Steroids, Forced ‘Auto-enrollment’ No Consumer Choice

Think Obamacare was an expensive failure and disaster already? Well some Republicans wish to make it far WORSE!

New legislation before Congress, H.R. 3467, should alarm anyone who cares about protecting Americans’ health and autonomy.

The bill, sponsored by Rep. David Schweikert (R-Ariz.) and introduced in May, would automatically enroll new Medicare beneficiaries into the lowest-premium Medicare Advantage plan available in their ZIP code unless they actively opt out. Even more troubling, it would lock them into that plan for three full years, limiting their ability to switch back to traditional Medicare or select a new plan except under narrowly defined hardship circumstances.

At first glance, “auto-enrollment” sounds efficient, with fewer decisions to make at a confusing time. But when you dig deeper, this proposal removes freedom rather than simplifying a decision. Many would find themselves stuck in private insurance plans they never chose, possibly unable to access trusted doctors, specialists or hospitals outside their network.

While Medicare Advantage plans can provide valuable perks such as dental, hearing and fitness benefits, they often impose narrow provider networks, prior-authorization hurdles and higher out-of-pocket costs when care is needed most. If an older adult doesn’t realize they’ve been automatically enrolled or assumes they can switch later, they could discover the hard way that their longtime cardiologist, oncologist or local hospital isn’t covered.

This bill doesn’t simplify Medicare, it substitutes an algorithm’s decision for an informed human choice.

Currently, Medicare beneficiaries can review or change coverage annually during open enrollment. That flexibility is essential: people’s health and finances change. But H.R. 3467 would remove that freedom for three years after auto-enrollment.

Imagine being 72, recently diagnosed with cancer, and realizing your plan doesn’t cover your preferred specialist — then learning you can’t change it for two more years. That’s not a “benefit” it’s a communistic bureaucratic trap.

And the fallout won’t stop with the individual enrollees. Family caregivers, already juggling appointments, medications and appeals, will face greater strain when a loved one is locked into an unsuitable plan. Nearly one in five Americans now provides unpaid care to an adult aged 50 or older. Instead of easing their workload, this bill would multiply their stress.

This bill remains in committee and has not advanced to a full House vote. There’s still time for lawmakers, Democrats and Republicans alike, to step back and reconsider the long-term consequences.

Justice Department again asks judge to unseal Epstein grand jury testimony after Congress passes law

The Justice Department has asked a federal judge in Florida to reconsider unsealing grand jury materials related to an investigation into Jeffrey Epstein, as the agency faces a congressionally-mandated deadline to release all documents related to the accused sex trafficker next month.

A judge in the Southern District of Florida previously denied a request by the DOJ to make public transcripts from the case, which federal prosecutors asked for due to “extensive public interest” but not as part of a judicial proceeding.

Epstein committed many of his crimes in Florida. When a Florida judge denied the DOJ’s original request, she said her “hands are tied” because the Justice Department sought to release the sealed evidence due to “extensive public interest,” not as part of a judicial proceeding, which is the usual standard. In a filing on Friday, the Justice Department cited the passage of a law early last week of a law mandating the release of all of its Epstein files within 30 days, arguing, “public production of the grand jury material is therefore required.”

“In light of the Act’s clear mandate, the Court should authorize the Department of Justice to release the grand jury transcripts and lift any preexisting protective orders that would otherwise prevent public disclosure,” the filing says.

But the legislation, which President Donald Trump signed into law last week, does not specifically mention grand jury materials.

The law, formally titled the Epstein Files Transparency Act, was passed by the House of Representatives almost unanimously earlier this month. The Senate then passed the bill through unanimous consent.

It is not clear what files the Justice Department will release or if it won’t release some due to ongoing investigations.

Trump has asked the DOJ to investigate Epstein’s ties to many other high-profile figures associated with the Democratic Party including “Bill Clinton, Larry Summers, Reid Hoffman, J.P. Morgan, Chase, and many other people and institutions.”

The grand jury testimony that the department seeks to release, however, is only a small portion of the thousands of documents related to the Epstein investigation and criminal case. Many of those documents are already in Justice Department custody and may not have been presented to the jury in Florida.

(Reuters) - Rizvi Traverse Management LLC, managed by secretive investor Suhail Rizvi, has halved its stake in Twitter Inc and increased its holding in mobile payments company Square Inc, regulatory filings showed on Friday.

When Twitter's IPO was in the works, Suhail Rizvi quietly amassed a stake of more than 15 percent in the microblogging phenomenon for himself and his investors, Reuters reported.

Rizvi also played a role in convincing Kingdom Holding Co, Saudi Prince Alwaleed bin Talal's investment company, to buy additional Twitter stock, Reuters reported in 2013.

His private-equity firm owned 1.4 million Twitter shares as of June 30, down 50 percent from March 31, according to a filing. That would give him a stake of about 0.2 percent, according to a Reuters calculation.

The firm's stake in Square rose to 1.05 million Class A shares from about 44,000. That works out to a stake of about 0.3 percent.Both Twitter and Square are run by Jack Dorsey.

Twitter recently reported its slowest quarterly revenue growth since going public in 2013 as it struggles to attract users, while Square posted a big jump in revenue and a smaller loss.

Rizvi, once a dealmaker focused on Hollywood, is known for being super-secretive.

Reuters has reported that he once hired a person to scrub his picture from the internet.

Rizvi also owns stakes in Elon Musk-led SpaceX, Snapchat, Playboy and fitness device maker Jawbone and previously held a stake in Facebook Inc

CIA Analyst and Senator, Elissa Slotkin, appears on ABC’s Face the Nation to defend herself from accusations of unlawful conduct following a video she produced telling military and intelligence officers to defy President Trump’s orders.

Senator Slotkin’s behavior is classic tradecraft when she appears in media.

Slotkin claimed the video was intended to draw attention to the unlawful orders that President Trump has used;however, when asked to give an example of a illegal order issued by President Trump, Slotkin nervously admits there aren’t any. WATCH (prompted):

There is such things as illegal orders. That’s why it’s in the Uniform Code of Military Justice. Going back to Nuremberg, right? And it’s just a — it’s a totally benign statement. And if the president is concerned about it, then he should stay deeply within the law. But I think it’s important to know it’s not hypothetical, right?

This president in the last administration, his last administration, asked his secretary of defense and his chairman of the Joint Chiefs to, quote, “shoot at their legs at unarmed protesters in front of the White House that he wanted moved.”

RADDATZ: Actually, I know I know you’re talking about Mark Esper’s book. He didn’t exactly say that. He said the president suggested that, but they were never ordered to do that.

SLOTKIN: And he got out of the Oval Office quickly so that he wasn’t told to actually do it. And I give him a lot of credit for that. I give him a lot of credit.

RADDATZ: I do — so — so, let’s talk right now. Do you believe President Trump has issued any illegal order?

SLOTKIN: To my knowledge, I am not aware of things that are illegal, but certainly there are some legal gymnastics that are going on with these Caribbean strikes and everything related to Venezuela. And I think that’s why —

RADDATZ: And be specific about that. Let me read you what Senator Lindsey Graham said about your video. “You owe it to the men and women in the military to be specific about what you are talking about. What these senators and House members did was unnerving and it was unconscionable to suggest that the President of the United States is issuing unlawful orders without giving an example.”

SLOTKIN: Yeah. So, for me, my primary concern is the use of U.S. military on American shores, on our city — in our cities and in our streets. We’ve seen now the courts overturn the deployment of U.S. military into our streets, including here in Washington, D.C.

When you look at these videos coming out of places like Chicago, it makes me incredibly nervous that we’re about to see people in law enforcement, people in uniformed military get nervous, get stressed, shoot at American civilians. It is a very, very stressful situation for these law enforcement and for the communities on the ground. So, it was basically a warning to say, like, if you’re asked to do something particularly against American citizens, you have the ability to go to your JAG officer and push back.…

(That sounds very insurrectiony lies to me, as Trump said Hegseth and Military are investigating this, and more she admits they basically insinuated a crime, knowing their wasn’t, doesn’t bode well for these corrupt lawmakers.)

Question: how is it possible the Republicans didn’t know what they were planning and doing?

RADDATZ: And with these service members calling you, couldn’t you have done a video saying just what you just said? If you are asked to do something, if — if you are worried about whether it is legal or not, you can do this. It does imply that the President is having illegal orders, which you have not seen.

SLOTKIN: I think for us, it was just a statement widely, right? We say very quickly and very — to all the folks who come to us, this is the process. Go to your JAG officer, ask them for explanation, for top cover, for their view on things. We do that on a case-by-case basis, but we wanted to speak directly to the volumes of people who had come to us on this.

RADDATZ: And it is very clear that no one should follow an illegal order, but it’s very murky when you look at what is an illegal order. And if you go into morally, ethically, that’s a pretty tough thing to look at and say, how do I navigate this?

SLOTKIN: I don’t — I mean, going back to Nuremberg, right, that, well, they told me to do it, that’s why I murdered people, is not an excuse. If you look at popular culture, like, you watch, you know, A Few Good Men, like we have plenty of examples since World War II in Vietnam, where people were told to follow illegal orders, and they did it, and they were prosecuted for it.

So, the best thing for people to do is go to their JAG officer, their local law enforcement or a legal officer in their unit, and ask for some explanation, ask for help. And that’s what we’ve been advising people to do.

RADDATZ: You are on the Senate Armed Services Committee. What are you seeing in terms of Venezuela? Do you think there will be further action by the president?

SLOTKIN: Well, certainly the sheer size of the military buildup in and around Venezuela. I mean, you have to assume that when superpowers put that much force into an area that they’re going to use it. They brought in aircraft carriers, they brought in F-35s.

I think the cost already is a billion dollars to move all that force into theater. Certainly, if we’re going to actually think about prosecuting some sort of war or military action against the mainland of Venezuela, I would hope that the president would want to have that conversation publicly, bring in the American people who are not looking to get into another war, who are not looking to get into regime change. We had Iraq and Afghanistan. I think people generally on all sides of the aisle are exhausted by war. But just have that conversation, be transparent about it. I think that’s what’s been hard about the strikes in the Caribbean.

Many of us would be supportive of going after drug cartels, but a secret list of secret terrorist organizations, you know, just be transparent with the American public.

RADDATZ: OK, thanks very much for joining us this morning, Senator. We appreciate it.
