As Sony Corp. (6758)’s Kazuo Hirai delivers his first keynote address at the International Consumer Electronics Show today, he’ll push a message he’s delivered before: a breakup of the consumer electronics giant isn’t in the cards.

Since taking over as chief executive officer in April 2012, Hirai has trumpeted what he calls a One Sony vision – that he can deliver better returns making televisions, mobile phones and consoles under the same roof as movies and TV shows, video games and music.

His challenge this time around: A $180 million quarterly loss at Sony Pictures Entertainment gave credence to calls made last year by activist investor Daniel Loeb, who urged the company to separate the unit from electronics. While exclusive films and TV shows helped Sony gain an early lead in a new generation of TVs called 4K, the second-quarter loss makes One Sony a harder sell in Las Vegas.

“His CES keynote speech is certainly going to be an important stage for Hirai,” Junya Ayada, a Tokyo-based analyst at Daiwa Securities Group, said by phone. “It’s uncertain whether he can deliver a strong message that can impress investors.”

To make One Sony a reality, Hirai has increased collaboration at the company’s disparate units. In 2012, he sent camera engineers to the company’s phone division to give the Xperia Z handset advanced photography capabilities.

‘Mission Statement’

Sony’s electronics and entertainment teams created the Ultra HD Media Player in eight months, unveiling a device capable of downloading and storing about 100 ultra high definition movies. The player, stocked with Sony movies, has helped spur sales of 4K, or ultra high definition, TV sets.

The company has the unique ability to develop products products customers can’t even imagine, Mike Fasulo, president of Sony Electtronics, said yesterday at a CES press conference. The company introduced Lifelog, an app that connects to Sony products and online services, ranging from fitness to music and games, and offer recommendations based on users’ habits.

At CES, Hirai will try to convince reporters, retailers and investors there are more successes to come. Just talking about mobile phones and 4K TVs won’t be enough to break new ground, Daiwa’s Ayada said.

“Kaz will present a revitalized mission statement,” said Richard Doherty, principal at researcher Envisioneering Group. “We’re going to see a multilingual guy who knows the world markets and is not breaking a sweat. Still, he’s only been in the seat 18 months and still finding how many messes were being covered over.”

Common Sense

Common Sense[1] is a pamphlet written by Thomas Paine in 1775–76 advocating independence from Great Britain to people in the Thirteen Colonies. Written in clear and persuasive prose, Paine marshaled moral and political arguments to encourage common people in the Colonies to fight for egalitarian government. It was published anonymously on January 10, 1776, at the beginning of the American Revolution, and became an immediate sensation.

Guys I'm a little conflicted with the latest developments.

It was a little disconcerting seeing Trump at the rally yesterday with a bunch of Q signs around instead of MAGA signs.

I know that Truth and Disclosure are our ultimate goals, but its pretty risky to conflate the Q movement with the Trump movement in order to gain popularity for the Q movement. What if we risk diminishing the power of the Trump movement by focusing on Q? We are already seeing how the MSM will conflate Q (and by virtue of that, all Trump supporters) with "fringe groups".

This question might more easily be framed if we first assess and then compare each movement and their relative strengths:

Firstly, we have a strong movement right now, that is, the Trump / MAGA movement. The Trump agenda is working perfectly, Trump has delivered on his promises, the Trump supporters are winning credibility with the masses by displaying the virtues of our demands, and Trump is demonstrating how our philosophy leads to better government. In my opinion, we are now poised for many more electoral victories.

On the other hand, the Q movement has been a Great Awakening for many. But not so much for the rest. We have done a great job of uncovering many conspiracies, but what prospects do we have of achieving further goals? And, what specifically are those goals? And what do we risk by pushing for those goals?

Let me put it differently, we ALL win by promoting the MAGA movement. Having Trump and the movement be strong is our best chance for Draining the Swamp and clearing out many of the conspiracies we discuss in Q Research. But do we ALL win if we start to conflate Trump with Q in the minds of the rest of the country?

Q seems pretty credible. But has he demonstrated any proofs beyond a number of 'coincidences' as he says? Enough proofs to demonstrate to the masses of normalfags that this is legit when they start to dig into it after seeing us at Trump rallies? Will what they find encourage them to support the Trump movement more, or less?

Has Q demonstrated enough credibility to risk pinning him onto the identity of the MAGA movement?

That is my question for you, anons. Do we trust this thing enough to risk it all. What are the intentions of Q once he gains mainstream credibility? Do we have control over the Q movement once that happens? How do we KNOW we can trust this as nothing has been proven to us for CERTAIN.

Should we press on with making this mainstream without more concrete evidence of what we are actually involved in here?

(CNN)If you watched any of President Donald Trump's campaign rally in Tampa, Florida on Tuesday night, you likely caught a glimpse of people holding up signs with "Q" or "QAnon" printed on them. Those people are adherents of a broad-scale conspiracy theory that pits President Trump against a global elite seeking to murder him.

Yes, you read that right.

With QAnon moving from the fringes of Internet thought into something much closer to the mainstream, I reached out to the Daily Beast's Will Sommer, who has been writing and thinking smartly about QAnon since its inception. (Read his full explanation of QAnon here.) Our conversation, conducted via email and lightly edited for flow, is below.

Cillizza: Let's start simple: Where the heck did QAnon come from? And do we have any sense how many "members" it has or whether it is growing?

Sommer: QAnon started last October, when an anonymous person or group of people called Q started posting cryptic clues on 4Chan. Trump supporters eventually found these clues, which they call "breadcrumbs," and spun them into a whole counter-narrative that's contrary to just about everything that's actually happening in the world.
