Very few can escape the toll of addiction in this country. It is not something any parent is prepared to handle either, and you want so desperately to save your kid from their own destruction. He lived in the guest house, they put him in rehab etc, but what he did not do (from the beginning) was to kick him out and not help at all until the KID made his own decision to quit. It wasnt until i tossed him out and told him to never come home until he was clean that he actually chose to get clean (heroin) and worst of all he was an actual functioning addict. But the day i kicked him out, he barely weighed 100 lbs and was 6’2” and his skin was literally grey, he was a nightmare to look at and be around. I thought i was going to die from heartbreak. Or that the next time i would lay eyes on him was in his coffin. Today 10 years later, he is clean, he has a child and a happy marriage and a great job. I made the right decision to kick him to the curb, i just didnt do it fast enough.

I do feel bad for the Reiner family but they waited too long and let the manipulation continue and the son never was going to stop because he had no reason to.

In May, 2021, during a so-called “trusted build” update of her county’s Dominion ballot tabulation machine software, Tina Peters sought evidence that the machines were capable of being manipulated by wireless internet.

 

She made copies of the hard drives and published passwords online, exposing proprietary software and sensitive system information.

 

She was indicted in 2022 on 13 counts and convicted in August of 2024 on seven counts.

 

Judge Matthew Barrett threw the book at her, handing the then-69-year-old grandmother a nine-year stretch in state prison. His spoken remarks at sentencing included:

D.C. Appeals Court Pauses Boasberg's Contempt Hearings On Trump Deportations

 

A federal appeals court has granted an emergency motion sought by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) to halt contempt hearings scheduled to start this week over the deportation of suspected Venezuelan gang members.

 

U.S. District Judge James Boasberg had scheduled contempt hearings for Dec. 15 and 16, over the Trump administration’s deportation of Venezuelan gang member under the Alien Enemies act in March of this year.

 

Boasberg had issued restraining orders on the deportation of two planeloads of suspected Tren de Aragua gang members, after the planes were already airborne.

 

When the Trump administration followed the written orders but not the judge’s oral instructions, which DOJ attorneys said were defective, and allowed the deportation flights to complete their mission to transport the detainees to a maximum security prison in El Salvador.

 

The Supreme Court had ruled that Boasberg lacked jurisdiction and vacated the orders but the judge still scheduled contempt hearings, which were temporarily blocked by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, in a 2-1 ruling on Friday.

 

In its emergency motion, filed last week, the DOJ condemned Boasberg’s escalation of the matter and said, “This long-running saga never should have begun; should not have continued at all after this Court’s last intervention; and certainly should not be allowed to escalate into the unseemly and unnecessary interbranch conflict that it now imminently portends.”

 

The filing continued, “This Court should therefore again grant mandamus relief, this time foreclosing any further inquiry. The Court should also order the case to be reassigned given the strong appearance that the district judge is engaged in a pattern of retaliation and harassment, and has developed too strong a bias to preside over this matter impartially.”

 

Attorney General Pam Bondi called Boasberg’s actions “lawless judicial activism” and warned that the judge’s latest order threatened the separation of powers as well as attorney-client privilege.

Israel obtained, ignored Hamas document laying out Oct. 7 attack plan, report alleges

 

Israeli officials had intelligence that Palestinian terror group Hamas was preparing a wide-ranging attack before its October 7 assault but dismissed the information, The New York Times reported Thursday.

 

A document obtained by Israeli authorities at least a year before the attack “outlined, point by point, exactly the kind of devastating invasion that led to the deaths of about 1,200 people,” the newspaper reported.

 

The 40-page document, which was reviewed by the newspaper, did not specify when the attack might happen. But it provided a blueprint that Hamas appears to have followed: an initial rocket barrage, efforts to knock out surveillance, and waves of gunmen crossing into Israel by land and air.

 

Some 3,000 Hamas terrorists burst into Israel on October 7 under cover of heavy rocket fire, attacking army bases and invading communities at a music festival. Some 1,200 people, most of them civilians, were brutally slaughtered in the unprecedented assault, and another approximately 240 people were taken hostage.

 

The Times said the document, which included sensitive security information about Israeli military capacity and locations, circulated widely among the country’s military and intelligence leaders, though it was not clear if it was reviewed by senior politicians including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

 

A military assessment last year determined it was too soon to say the plan had been approved by Hamas, and when an analyst with the country’s signals intelligence unit warned the group had carried out a training exercise in line with the plan, her cautions were dismissed.

 

She warned it was a “plan designed to start a war,”the newspaper said, but a colonel reviewing her assessment suggested they were drilling for an unrealistic scenario and told the analyst they would “wait patiently.”

 

The warnings did not suggest that Hamas was likely to carry out the plan imminently, and the intelligence community continued to believe that Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar was not interested in pursuing war with Israel, the Times said.It likened the intelligence failure to those in the United States before the September 11, 2001 attacks.

I had success revitilizing a lawn mower this year.

I had broken the blade and it shook when I started it.

I priced new ones and figured out for $100 I could get a bunch of parts, fix something that were annoying (like the way the wheels worked) and gave it a tune up. I did all that. I took the broken blade off and then, after the tune up, tried to start it (oil change, new filter, new spark plug).

It would not start.

The reason, I quickly determined, is that without the blade there is no mass to hold the angular momentum. The blade, it self, being properly installed (and ballanced) is key to getting the motor to start!

I put on the new blade. It still didn't start. Then I remembered that I'd taken the wire off in order to make sure it would be safe to put the blade on. Two pulls and it started!

I saved 250 dollars and my old mower works great.

PS: old mowers that people leave out in front of their houses to throw them away often only need to have the oil drained and replaced and maybe a new spark plug or blade to make them function again.

Following the death of Cardinal John Cody, Pope John Paul II appointed Bernardin Archbishop of Chicago on July 8, 1982, and he was installed on August 25, 1982.

He was elevated to the cardinalate on February 2, 1983, becoming Cardinal-Priest of Gesù Divin Lavoratore in Rome.

Known as a master mediator, Bernardin worked to reconcile divisions within the American Church and was influential in shaping the Church’s post-Vatican II engagement with the modern world.

He advocated for a "consistent ethic of life," later known as the "seamless garment" ethic, which emphasized the interconnectedness of issues such as abortion, capital punishment, nuclear disarmament, and poverty.

In 1993, he was named in a lawsuit by a former seminarian, Stephen Cook, who alleged abuse in the 1970s; however, Cook later retracted the claims, stating his memories emerged under hypnosis, and the two reconciled.

Diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 1995, Bernardin became an "unofficial chaplain for cancer patients" and faced his death with dignity, teaching many about how to die well.

 

He was recognized for his commitment to interfaith dialogue, particularly with the Jewish community.
