CASE UPDATE: MINNESOTA FRAUD SCHEME

 

The FBI is aware of recent social media reports in Minnesota. However, even before the public conversation escalated online, the FBI had surged personnel and investigative resources to Minnesota to dismantle large-scale fraud schemes exploiting federal programs. Fraud that steals from taxpayers and robs vulnerable children will remain a top FBI priority in Minnesota and nationwide.

 

To date, the FBI dismantled a $250 million fraud scheme that stole federal food aid meant for vulnerable children during COVID. The investigation exposed sham vendors, shell companies, and large-scale money laundering tied to the Feeding Our Future network.

 

The case led to 78 indictments and 57 convictions. Defendants included Abdiwahab Ahmed Mohamud, Ahmed Ali, Hussein Farah, Abdullahe Nur Jesow, Asha Farhan Hassan, Ousman Camara, and Abdirashid Bixi Dool, each charged for roles ranging from wire fraud to money laundering and conspiracy.

 

These criminals didn’t just engaged in historic fraud, but tried to subvert justice as well. Abdimajid Mohamed Nur and others were charged for attempting to bribe a juror with $120,000 in cash. Those responsible pleaded guilty and were sentenced, including a 10-year prison term and nearly $48 million in restitution in related cases.

 

The FBI believes this is just the tip of a very large iceberg. We will continue to follow the money and protect children, and this investigation very much remains ongoing.

 

Furthermore, many are also being referred to immigrations officials for possible further denaturalization and deportation proceedings where eligible.

But it is drawing to an end. Western enthusiasm for “Poor Ukraine,” is at the point of public, political, and diplomatic exhaustion. “The collective West,” has collectively had enough of Zelenskyy’s continuous demands and huge shopping lists.

 

“We can win if you give us this or that or the next thing,” has grown old and tiresome. It’s impossible for the Cocaine-fuelled Shrimp Zelenskyy and his crew of retarded Banderites not to see this.

 

The moment will come when Zelenskyy will have to leave the country or risk being captured or strung from a Lamppost in Kiev by his own people. If we in the West have had enough, the Ukrainian people must certainly have had enough. He has achieved nothing and lost everything.

KYIV, Ukraine — As the war in Ukraine enters its fourth year, an estimated five million Ukrainians are facing food insecurity, with the greatest needs concentrated in areas near the frontlines. According to data collected by the UN World Food Programme (WFP), millions of people are resorting to coping mechanisms, sacrificing their own meals so their children can eat. Others are going into debt to buy sufficient food supplies to feed their families.

WFP continues to provide food and cash assistance to nearly 1.5 million Ukrainians each month, mostly in the frontline regions. Despite these efforts, more than half of the people in the Kherson region in the south face severe hunger, and, two out of every five individuals face hunger in Zaporizhzhia as well as the Donetsk region in the east.

 

"Families in frontline regions are struggling to put food on the table, forcing them to make heartbreaking choices just to get by," said Richard Ragan, WFP Country Director in Ukraine. “As we look forward to sustainable peace in what is considered to be one of the world’s historical breadbasket regions, we must face the reality that humanitarian aid continues to be a lifeline for millions.”

 

According to WFP monitoring, 72 percent of those who receive food assistance reported having to cut back on food, buy less nutritious food, skip meals, or borrow money to feed their family. Across six frontline regions almost a third of all people are food insecure.

 

In areas close to the war, commercial supply chains are disrupted, infrastructure is often damaged or destroyed, and the opportunities to earn money are scarce. Where supermarkets are accessible and stocked, many families cannot afford nutritious food. The cost of basic food items rose by 25 percent in the last year, with some staple vegetables more than doubling in price.

 

Since March 2022, WFP has provided assistance in Ukraine equivalent to 3.3 billion meals and distributed 445,000 metric tons of food.

 

Meanwhile, the challenges of delivering lifesaving assistance near the frontlines have been growing. In the last six months, WFP food distribution points and the vehicles or assets of its local humanitarian partners have been hit by drones, shelling or missiles more than 20 times, putting humanitarian operations at risk.

 

The United Nations World Food Programme is the world’s largest humanitarian organization, saving lives in emergencies and using food assistance to build a pathway to peace, stability and prosperity for people recovering from conflict, disasters and the impact of climate change.

A former Russian diplomat has been sentenced to 12 years in a high-security penal colony after being convicted of passing state secrets to the United States, which allegedly happened during his stint as an assistant to Russia's consulate general in Houston, where he worked between 2014 and 2017.

 

The Federal Security Service (FSB) announced Friday that 38-year old Arseniy Konovalov has been found guilty of treason. He was detained in March last year on suspicion of providing classified information to American intelligence, and the newly released video of the moment he was detained by the Russian security service while inside a vehicle upon his return to Russia has gone viral. He has a look of utter shock and horror on his face upon realizing what was happening.

 

The FSB in its statement alleged that “AS Konovalov, an employee of the Russian foreign ministry, during a long-term foreign assignment in the United States, proactively transferred secret information to American intelligence for money.”

 

The video release further showed Konovalov placed in a holding cage at Moscow's Lefortovo district court by masked officers after being taken from the vehicle.

 

On top of the sizeable prison sentence, the court also fined Konovalov 100,000 roubles. The security service did not specify the nature of the information which was allegedly handed over to the US side, nor did it make any supposed evidence public.

 

US officials have also not commented on or confirmed the case, but there has been speculation on Russian Telegram channels that Konovalov was recruited by the CIA at some point.

 

There are reports that espionage and treason investigations and cases overseen by Russian authorities have jumped significantly since the start of the Ukraine war, which is about to reach completion of its fourth year.

Update (1730ET): Following a call with Russian president Putin and meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelensky, at his Mar-a-Lago estate, President Trump said early Sunday that he made “a lot of progress” in talks with Ukraine and Russia, and that they were getting "closer" to settling the status of the disputed Donbas territory, but that it remained challenging.

 

"It's unresolved, but it's getting a lot closer. That's a very tough issue, but one that I think will get resolved," Trump told reporters in response to a question about the Donbas..

 

Asked if Putin was committed to peace despite the attacks, Trump said:

 

"He's very serious."

 

"I can say that I believe Ukraine has made some very strong attacks also, and I don't say that negatively. I think you probably have to," Trump said outside his estate.

 

Speaking next to Zelensky, who stood a step below him at the entrance in front of waiting cameras, Trump said that an emerging agreement would also be good for Ukraine.

 

"There will be a security agreement. It'll be a strong agreement," Trump said.

 

"And the European nations are very much involved in that. They'll be very much involved in protection, et cetera," he said.

 

Zelenskiy said the peace framework is “90% agreed” and that “US-Ukraine security guarantees” are “100% agreed”, with the military dimension also “100% agreed”.

 

Trump said he has offered to address Ukraine's parliament to push the latest peace plan forward, saying "I'm not sure that it would be really necessary, but if it would help save 25,000 lives a month, or whatever it may be, I would certainly be willing to do that."

 

Trump said a deal is “very close,” and that he and Zelensky plan to speak again over the coming weeks, with Trump also saying he could envision a trilateral meeting with Zelensky and Putin.

 

Zelensky later took to X to "thank @POTUS Donald Trump for a great meeting."

 

"We had a substantive discussion on all issues, and we much appreciate the progress achieved by American and Ukrainian teams in recent weeks. Special thanks to Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner for their engagement and full commitment, as well as to our team — first of all, to Rustem Umerov and Andrii Hnatov.

Kremlin reveals details of Putin-Trump call

 

Both presidents have agreed to push for a lasting peace over a temporary ceasefire, according to Yury Ushakov

 

The two presidents held a “friendly, well-wishing and businesslike” conversation for an hour and 15 minutes, during which they expressed mutual interest in reaching a lasting peaceful settlement in the Ukraine conflict, according to Ushakov. Putin stressed the need to rely on the understandings reached between the presidents at the summit in Anchorage earlier this year, he added.

 

Both the Russian and US leaders agreed that a temporary ceasefire as proposed by Ukraine and its European backers “would only prolong the conflict and risk a resumption of hostilities,” according to the Kremlin aide.

 

Putin agreed to a proposal from Trump to continue the settlement process by forming two “working groups” to tackle security and economic issues, Ushakov said.

 

Earlier on Sunday, Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social that he had a “very productive” conversation with Putin.

 

The presidents also agreed to talk again after the US leader’s meeting with Zelensky.

 

On Saturday, Putin said during a meeting with top generals that some “smart people” in the West were offering Kiev “decent” peace terms that included “good framework security guarantees,” an economic recovery scheme, and a roadmap for restoring relations with Russia. However, Kiev is still in “no rush” to settle peacefully despite the favorable terms, he said.

 

If the Ukrainian authorities eschew a peaceful resolution, Russia will achieve its goals on the battlefield, Putin warned.

The Charlottesville Police Department is ending its use of a license plate reading camera system amid concerns that the data collected could be accessed by the federal government and used to identify illegal immigrants.

 

During a city council meeting earlier this month, council members voted not to move forward with a yearlong pilot program for the Flock Safety license plate reader system, despite law enforcement officials citing its success in solving crimes.

 

“I just think that the concerns are much bigger than us,” Charlottesville Police Chief Michael Kochis said, according to CBS 19. “Most of the feedback we got was very positive from folks in the community. That being said, there were some concerns.”

 

Those concerns centered on the possibility that data gathered through the system could be obtained by federal agencies and used for purposes beyond local law enforcement, including tracking individuals who are in the United States illegally. Kochis did, however, admit that the technology had proven effective during the pilot program.

 

“It’s helped us solve our homicide in the city. It has helped us recover a missing child. It has helped us recover missing people. It does help us recover stolen cars in time frames that actually have meaning,” he said.

 

Despite ending the program, Kochis said the department plans to explore alternative license plate reader systems that may address the concerns raised by council members and residents. One option under consideration is a similar system offered by Axon, a company that makes body cams for officers.

 

“We trust Axon. We have for many years for our body-worn camera footage,” Kochis said. “They also have a similar program, so that would be something we would roll out and speak to council about.”
