Rep. Michele Bachmann’s former campaign manager has joined the bipartisan chorus criticizing the Minnesota Republican for questioning the loyalty of State Department aide Huma Abedin and alleging she has ties to the Muslim Brotherhood.

“I have been a practitioner of tough politics for many decades,” Ed Rollins wrote in an op-ed for FOX News. “There is little that amazes me and even less that shocks me. I have to say that Congresswoman Michele Bachmann’s outrageous and false charges against a top aide to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Huma Abedin reaches that threshold.

“Her unsubstantiated charge against Abedin, a widely respected top aide to Secretary Hillary Clinton, accusing her of some sort of far-fetched connection to the Muslim brotherhood, is extreme and dishonest,” he continued.

Rollins, like Sen. John McCain in a floor speech earlier today, called out Bachmann for writing a letter urging the State Department to investigate whether Abedin — a Muslim American and wife of former Rep. Anthony Weiner — and other officials were trying to influence U.S. foreign policy to aid Islamist causes.

Rollins demanded Bachmann apologize for the letter, which was signed by four other GOP lawmakers, and compared Bachmann’s claims to Joe McCarthy’s hunt for communists in the 1950’s.

“Having worked for Congressman Bachman’s campaign for president, I am fully aware that she sometimes has difficulty with her facts, but this is downright vicious and reaches the late Senator Joe McCarthy level,” he wrote.

In early 2013, while Ehud Barak was entering the final months of his term as Israel’s Minister of Defense, he was being privately courted by international private banks in Davos, Switzerland, who sought to use his political connections to attract ultra-wealthy individuals as new clients. In March 2013, soon after he resigned from the defense ministry, Barak received a “rainmaker” agreement from Boris Collardi, then-CEO of Julius Baer Group, a Swiss private bank based in Zurich.

Barak, however, was not a big fan of de Rothschild. He sent Epstein an article on Edmond de Rothschild’s $300 million investment fund for Africa, in which Ariane explained that the bank hoped to invest in a booming consumer economy, not endless war for resources. “Africa will be the equivalent of China. What is of interest to me is that it is not led any more by mines and energy, but that banks and insurance companies are developing,” she said. Barak was horrified, captioning the article: “Globalization of cultural and media consumption.”

Epstein was similarly chagrined. “I am aware,” he lamented. “She is lost.” It’s no mystery why Epstein and Barak disagreed with de Rothschild’s take on Africa; the two men were simultaneously engaged in mining and energy investments in several African countries, selling Israeli security technology to embattled presidents in Nigeria, Côte d’Ivoire, and beyond. Creating a booming consumer economy in Africa was not on their agenda.

In his emails to Barak, Epstein indicated he viewed Ariane de Rothschild as a misguided byproduct of nepotism. He compared Benjamin de Rothschild’s decision to appoint her as chairman of the bank, to Barak putting his son-in-law (a classical cellist) in charge of the Israeli military: “[She] has many interfamily battles as well as biz. it would have been like you making Yoed [Nir], the defense minister because he was family.”

Whatever misgivings Epstein had about de Rothschild, they didn’t impede his desire to leverage her resources for grander ambitions. Epstein was a super-connector of the world’s elite, and began building a relationship between the former prime minister and the private banking heiress. He invited Barak and de Rothschild to dinner at his New York mansion on September 23, 2013.

Epstein reassured Barak that he was in good company with former U.S. military leaders with lucrative careers peddling intelligence-linked cybersecurity products: former NSA and CIA director Michael Hayden and US cyber commander Keith Alexander. The U.S. biotech company Atlas Data Storage has launched a synthetic DNA storage system capable of holding 1,000 times more data than traditional magnetic tape.

The product, called Atlas Eon 100, claims it will store humanity’s “irreplaceable archives” for thousands of years.

These include family photos, scientific data, corporate records, cultural artifacts and the master versions of digital artworks, movies, manuscripts and music.

“This is the culmination of more than ten years of product development and innovation across multiple disciplines,” Bill Banyai, Founder of Atlas Data Storage, said in a statement. “We intend to offer new solutions for long-term archiving, data preservation for AI models, and the safeguarding of heritage and high-value content.”

Fundamentally, all digital data is just a series of 1s and 0s in a defined sequence. DNA is similar in that it is made up of defined sequences of the chemical bases adenine (A), cytosine (C), guanine (G) and thymine (T).

DNA data storage works by mapping the binary code to these bases; for example, an encoding scheme might assign A as 00, C as 01, G as 10, and T as 11. Artificial DNA can then be synthesized with the bases arranged in the corresponding order.

For Atlas Eon 100, the DNA is then dehydrated and stored as a powder in 0.7-inch-tall (1.8 cm) ruggedized steel capsules. It is rehydrated only when it needs to be sequenced and its bases translated back to binary.

More useful than magnetic tape

Just one quart (one liter) of the DNA solution can hold 60 petabytes of data the equivalent of 10 billion songs or 12 million HD movies. This makes Atlas Eon 100, 1,000 times more storage-dense than magnetic tape.

For context, about 15,500 miles (25,000 km) of 0.5-inch-wide (12.7 mm) LTO-10 tape, a standard high-capacity storage medium, would be needed to hold that same amount of data.

This storage density will make transporting large quantities of data easier than it would be with typical hard drives or tape reels. DNA is also known to keep its form for centuries, making it a remarkably stable medium for preserving data over very long periods.

Atlas Data Storage says its product is stable in an office environment with 99.99999999999% reliability, but the capsules can also endure temperatures as high as 104°F (40°C). Magnetic tape, on the other hand, decays in about a decade even with temperature and humidity controls.

Optical media, such as CDs and DVDs, typically degrade within 30 years, while hard drives last about 6 or 7 years before showing signs of deterioration. In less than 3 hours at 158°F (70 °C), a flash memory cell can ‘age’ as much as it normally would in a month.

Atlas also argues that its DNA storage service offers an easier way to make backups of its customers’ data than other media do. Indeed, once one strand is encoded, enzymes can be used to make more than a billion copies in just a few hours.

A solution for a data-hungry society?

According to Atlas, society generates 280 PB of data every minute. It presents its DNA data storage as a potential solution to the proliferation of digital data, which has been exacerbated massively by the generative AI boom.

Sequencing is notoriously expensive it costs about $30 USD to read one gigabase of DNA currently, the equivalent of about 250 GB of data. It also takes a long time, with another recent DNA storage resolution reporting that it takes 25 minutes to recover a single file.

A lot of technological progress is needed and I have not seen anyone with an economically viable solution yet however it is a matter of time.

The Symmetric Jet Structure in Hubble Images of 3I/ATLAS

Seventeen images of the interstellar object 3I/ATLAS, taken by the Hubble Space Telescope on November 30, December 12 and December 27, 2025, are accessible here. They reveal an intriguing configuration of evolving jets.

On large scales out to 100,000 kilometers, the most prominent jet is an anti-tail directed towards the Sun, but on a scale that is 10 times smaller, there are three jets — one pointing roughly away from the Sun and two others pointing sideways in directions that are oriented +/-120 degrees relative to each other.

The equal angular separations of 360 degrees divided by 3 among these three jet axes is puzzling. The orientation of the three axes is changing over time, presumably as a result of the rotation of the nucleus.

The natural comet interpretation associates the jets with major pockets of ice on the surface of a rotating nucleus. The one that points at the Sun creates a prominent anti-tail jet that extends out to 100,000 kilometers.

The activity of the other jets could be triggered by heat conduction through the body of the nucleus.

The rotation period of 3I/ATLAS is about 16 hours (as reported here).

Varying the extent of the minor jets by 5,000 kilometers over ~8 hours is possible with a jet speed of ~0.2 kilometers per second associated with the thermal speed of volatile molecules from the sublimation of ice by sunlight.

However, having a coherent anti-tail jet on a scale that is an order of magnitude larger, requires stability over longer periods.

This stability is possible if the rotation axis is nearly aligned with the direction of the Sun and the anti-tail jet precesses in a small cone around the rotation axis like the beam of a lighthouse.

The anti-tail jet is ~10 times longer than it is wide. This suggests that its misalignment with the rotation axis is smaller than 6 degrees.

The required geometric alignment of the rotation axis with the direction of the Sun has a small chance of 0.2% of occurring at random.

Are the symmetric triple-jet inner structure or the unlikely alignment of the rotation axis with the direction of the Sun, technological signatures?

Or can they be a natural outcome of gas dynamics? Time will tell.

NASA's largest library at the Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland, which has been a central research hub for the global space agency since 1959, will be permanently closing on Friday (Jan 2).

An ancient Martian system of canyons and valleys could be home to archaic life forms, a ground-breaking scientific paper has found.

Scientists investigating the Red Planet’s mind-boggling cave system believe they’ve discovered something new – eight karst caves sculpted by extinct watercourses.

The paper, published in the highly-respected Astrophysical Journal Letters, suggests these caves could be alien-hunters’ best bet.

Until now, scientists believed that Mars’ skylights – pits in the surface of mars – were formed by volcanic activity.

But data from Nasa’s orbiters suggests there are karst caves – underground bunkers created when a river diverts down through a planet’s surface.

The discovery has got scientists’ chins wagging.

Why do these caves matter?

Karst caves provide two vital things for sustaining life – shelter from Mars’ intense radioactive rays, and water.

If life on Mars ever existed, it may have needed protection from hostile surface conditions like solar radiation, dust storms, and wild temperature fluctuations.

And we already know that water provides the building blocks for life.

Karst caves may well have provided water and shelter a the same time – roughly 3.5 billion years ago.

The paper’s authors are now urging future Martian ventures to ensure robots head down into these caves.

They hope they will be able to find ‘preserved biosignatures’ – scientific evidence of past or present life in geological materials like rocks, ice, or minerals.

Scientists believe these are water-formed caves for numerous reasons – especially the composition of its surrounding rock.

Data from Nasa’s Thermal Emission Spectrometer (TES) suggests the presence of carbonates and sulfates – probably caused by water flow dissolving soluble bedrock.

What sort of aliens are we looking for?

There is scientific consensus that Mars has had, at a point in its history, the conditions to host organic life.

But what this life looked like, or how complex it may have been, remains hotly discussed,

Some 19th and 20th century astronomers believed modern Mars was teeming with intelligent aliens with nefarious plans to invade Earth.

They mistakenly thought dark linear features on Mars were ‘canals’ and that seasonal colour changes were vegetation.

Better telescopes and the development of probes proved them wrong – but scientific discussion of historic life continued.

Microbes, as they wriggle around on rocks, can create minerals as they gobble up chemicals, leaving behind these mysterious patches.

The findings are noteworthy enough to meet Nasa’s criteria for a sign of ancient life.

And in March, a scientific paper said Nasa’s Curiosity rover had found the largest organic compounds ever seen on the planet.

The material was found inside a 3.7 billion-year-old rock in Yellowknife Bay, which may have once been a habitable freshwater lake.

Onboard tests detected molecules suspected to be remnants of fatty acids, which are produced by living creatures to form cell membranes.

Researchers did however stress that these molecules, though described as organic, could have also formed in chemical reactions that did not involve life.

Typically they basically force you to pay for some shit at some point, or there's pay-to-win, meanwhile in Fortnite even the Battle Pass is free, literally. Or if you buy it once (you don't have to), you just have to play a bit, and get follow-ups for free.

There is also no trickery going on, like casinos for children, like in Counter-Strike made by Valve.
