Senate Hearing Shocker: $1 Trillion Lost Annually, Where’s the Outrage From the Swamp? – Hawley

Sen. Josh Hawley pressed fraud prevention expert Haywood Talcove during a hearing over what he described as the misappropriation of $1 trillion in taxpayer funds each year, asking where the money is going and how criminal networks are accessing it.

“Where’s this money going? I mean, we know where some of it’s going. In Minnesota, went overseas. It went to Somalia, went to it went to NGO fronts. We know where it’s gone in some other states. California gave away millions, billions of dollars to a pro-Hamas NGO, where? But a trillion dollars nationally. Where’s this money going to?” Hawley asked.

Talcove responded directly.

“I appreciate that question, because most people don’t ask that question. It goes to terrorism, it goes to child trafficking, it goes to drugs, it goes to terrorism, and then it’s used to purchase luxury items, cars, purses, homes, that’s all funded by people like me that pay taxes.”

“So it’s you’re telling me that the electrician who goes to work every day and clocks in and works his butt off and tries to earn just enough to be able to, you know, make his rent, maybe have a kid or two, put food on the table, his tax money is being used to buy other people luxury items, cars, yachts, whatever else, and is going to fund terrorism and child trafficking.”

“Yes, sir,” Talcove replied.

A trillion dollars a year on this stuff.”

“$115 million an hour,” Talcove responded.

“$115 million an hour. How do they get in their hands on it? What? What are we talking about here? Trends, national organizations, criminal networks. How do they get their hands on this?” Hawley asked.

Talcove said fraudsters exploit outdated systems.

“They they take advantage of antiquated government systems and processes. They go into programs that they know elected and appointed officials won’t touch and they can steal at scale. And what happened really was, during the pandemic, between the PPP loans and the unemployment insurance, they learned a really valuable lesson. Government never runs out of money, and the probability of getting caught is virtually zero. I have it at 110 of 1%.”

Hawley then asked about solutions.

“So come back to the recommendations that you mentioned in your opening statement. What do we need to do to to put a stop to this hemorrhaging of people’s hard earned money going overseas to finite finance child trafficking and luxury yachts. What needs to happen here?”

Norway has been rocked by the release of millions of files that allegedly show politicians and top diplomats had extensive contact with convicted US sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

The files indicate that Norway's former prime minister, Thorbjoern Jagland, and Epstein's assistants made detailed plans in 2014 to visit the American in Palm Beach, Florida.

This week, in its effort to rewrite the most disastrous day in Israel's history – one that took place under its watch – the Netanyahu government turned to semantics.

In doing so, it revealed what it is concealing at home while showcasing abroad.

A representative of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday asked at a Knesset panel to remove the word "massacre" from the title of a bill commemorating the Hamas October 7 attack on Israel, instead opting for the more understated "Simchat Torah Events – October 7," which in Hebrew sounds somewhat less jarring. He argued that not only killings took place that day, but also fighting by Israeli forces to repel the attack.

On Thursday, Likud Minister Miki Zohar backed the move in an interview on Kan radio, saying that while Israelis can be vulnerable, "we do not get slaughtered," adding, "I do not want to be victimizing ourselves."

This verbal whitewashing has produced confusing, even paradoxical twists. Senior right-wing opposition lawmaker Avigdor Lieberman said that Netanyahu "joins antisemites" around the world who deny October 7.

But above all, it exposes something more sinister and hypocritical. Simcha Rothman, a senior member of Netanyahu's coalition, said he opposed airing the videos, calling them "Hamas propaganda aimed at harming us." At the same time, Likud lawmaker Tally Gotliv told families of Israeli hostages "to shut up" and stop their public campaign for their loved ones, warning that it will delay their return.

Yet on that very day, the Israeli consulate in New York and the Foreign Ministry purchased a billboard in New York City's Times Square to showcase a video released by Hamas of Israeli hostage Evyatar David. The text on the billboard read: "Hamas is starving the Israeli hostages," adding that it was "ignored by the media too busy echoing Hamas propaganda."

Netanyahu and his allies are not acting in a vacuum. Israel is not only isolated diplomatically and culturally, but also subject to a quarantine of consciousness. While much of the world has seen the utter destruction of Gaza – and the indiscriminate killing of tens of thousands of Palestinians as revenge for, yes, the massacre of Israelis – little of that, if any, has reached Israelis' living rooms or iPhones.

Those who seek to shape how history is told are also those who most fully appreciate its weight and live under it. Netanyahu's war on history over his failure to protect Israelis on October 7 only emphasizes how responsible he was for this disaster. And Israelis are following his lead by flatly denying their country's responsibility for what it did in Gaza. The country can begin to heal and find solutions to its never-ending and mutual animosity toward Palestinians only when both its leaders and its citizens confront these burdens honestly.

Only three months before the Hamas massacre, Netanyahu was interviewed on an American podcast and remarked on what he believed was the most important thing to study before entering political life.

"You have three things you have to study," the prime minister stressed: "History, history and history."

I've been talking a lot recently about how H1Bs are taking American jobs. Well you wouldn't believe what just happened to me. I got a call from229-228-4511and some Indian chick was asking me about certifications. To her credit, her English was better than most. She had a proposition for me, about recertifying some of my expired certs. I would use her service, pay their fee and the exam fee, and someone would take the exam for me, and I've had six months to pay everything back. I've asked her to follow up in an e-mail for me to give me time to think about it. She said she could mention everything except the part of the other person taking the exam in the email, so I said ok. For them to cold call me, it must be a pretty big business. This is why I am getting beat out on job interviews, much of the labor pool credentials are fake.
