Israel itself cannot bring down the Iranian regime, Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar told The Times of Israel on Wednesday, adding that the Iranian people need outside help to bring down the Islamic Republic.

 

“Ultimately, we cannot topple the regime, only the Iranian people can,” said Sa’ar. “At the same time, we must say that without external assistance they have no chance to topple the regime.”

 

The US and Israel launched a bombing campaign on Iran on February 28 following a massive US military buildup in the region and repeated threats by Trump to strike Iran, first over its bloody crackdown on anti-regime protesters in January and more recently over its nuclear program.

 

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has repeatedly told the Iranian public in video messages that the time will soon come for them to rise against the regime. On Tuesday, he wrote on X thatIsrael would in the coming days “create the conditions for you to grasp your destiny.”

 

“When the time is right, and that time is fast approaching, we will pass the torch to you,” he wrote.

Loss of U.S. KC-135 Over Iraq

 

TAMPA, Fla. – U.S. Central Command is aware of the loss of a U.S. KC-135 refueling aircraft. The incident occurred in friendly airspace during Operation Epic Fury, and rescue efforts are ongoing. Two aircraft were involved in the incident. One of the aircraft went down in western Iraq, and the second landed safely.

 

This was not due to hostile fire or friendly fire.

 

More information will be made available as the situation develops. We ask for continued patience to gather additional details and provide clarity for the families of service members.

.S. intelligence agencies believe Iran’s government remains firmly in control despite nearly two weeks of sustained military strikes that killed senior leaders and commanders, according to officials.

 

Sources familiar with the reports told Reuters on Thursday that the clerical regime remains cohesive and in authority across the country even after the killing of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in the opening hours of the conflict on February 28.

 

A “multitude” of intelligence reports provide “consistent analysis that the regime is not in danger” of collapse and “retains control of the Iranian public,” one source told Reuters on Monday.

 

The most recent assessment was completed within the past few days, the source added.

 

The findings come as political pressure grows on President Donald Trump to bring the largest U.S. military campaign since the 2003 Iraq invasion to an end, amid rising oil prices and uncertainty over the war’s objectives.

 

Since the operation began, U.S. and Israeli forces have targeted Iran’s air defences, nuclear infrastructure and senior leadership figures, killing dozens of officials and high-ranking commanders in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

 

Earlier this week, Iran’s Assembly of Experts, a powerful body of senior clerics, declared Mojtaba Khamenei, son of the slain leader, as the new supreme leader.

A U.S. military KC-135 refueling plane has crashed in western Iraq in an incident involving two aircraft, according to the Pentagon. Six crew members were on board, but there was no immediate word on their condition.

 

U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said Thursday that the incident happened in friendly airspace and was not caused by hostile fire or friendly fire. One of the aircraft went down in western Iraq, while the second landed safely.

Western banks in Dubai have evacuated staff from their offices amid a warning from Iran that it will target US and Israeli economic centres across the Middle East.

British bank Standard Chartered, US multinational Citi and two other companies told employees to leave their offices in the DubaiInternational Financial Centre (DIFC) and in Oud Metha on Wednesday.

 

London-based Standard Charteredhas ​a large presence in the United Arab Emirates ⁠and offices, including in the DIFC, a financial hub home to large international ​banks and law firms.

 

Many staff ‌at ⁠foreign and local businesseshave been working from homefollowing US and Israeli attacks on Iran, which prompted Tehran to fire missiles at targets ​across the Middle ​East, causing ⁠damage and deaths across the Gulf and travel chaos.

 

The creation of the ​DIFC in 2004 kick-started Dubai's push to ​draw ⁠financial firms. By the end of 2025, DIFC hosted more than 290 banks, 102 hedge funds, 500 ⁠wealth ​management firms and 1,289 family-related ​entities.

 

The evacuation comes as the Islamic Republic vowed to unleash a 'painful response' on American and Israeli banks after the US hit Iran with the 'most intense' day of strikes yet.

 

Iran has already attempted to cripple the world's economy as it forces shut the Strait of Hormuz, a vital passageway which transports around 20 per cent of the world's oil.

 

And the regime claims sites of economic interest linked to the US will be the 'next targets' of its bombing onslaughts following an alleged US-Israeli overnight attack on Bank Sepah in Tehran, an Iranian bank with ties to the country's military.

 

It warned people in the Middle East to stay at least 1km away from the institutions as it threatened to destroy them.

An attack on the Thailand-flagged bulk carrier Mayuree Naree from an 'unknown projectile', which was reported at 4.35am GMT, happened 11 nautical miles north of Oman and resulted in a fire onboard the ship.

 

Authorities are searching for three missing crew members from the Mayuree Naree after 20 were rescued by the Omani navy.

 

 

No group or military has yet claimed responsibility.

 

Earlier, the Japan-flagged container ship One Majesty had sustained minor damage from an unknown projectile 25 nautical miles northwest of Ras Al Khaimah in the United Arab Emirates, two maritime security sources said.

The United States has acknowledged that one of its aircraft has crashed in western Iraq, amid the country’s joint military offensive with Israel against Iran.

 

On Thursday, US Central Command, which oversees operations in the Middle East and parts of Asia, issued a brief statement announcing the aircraft’s crash, as well as rescue efforts.

 

There was no immediate indication whether there were fatalities or survivors.

 

“U.S. Central Command is aware of the loss of a U.S. KC-135 refueling aircraft,” the statement said.

 

“The incident occurred in friendly airspace during Operation Epic Fury, and rescue efforts are ongoing.”

 

The statement appeared to suggest that the crash involved two planes, possibly colliding or engaging in close manoeuvres. The second plane, it said, “landed safely”.

 

“This was not due to hostile fire or friendly fire,” the statement added.

 

Before the aircraft crash, the US military had reported that seven service members had died in the ongoing military campaign. Another 140 have been wounded overall, with Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell counting eight that face severe injuries.

 

Thursday’s crash is the latest to befall the US military since it began operations against Iran on February 28.

 

Already, three fighter jets were downed in an apparent friendly fire incident on March 1, just one day into the war.

 

Central Command explained that the jets, three F-15E Strike Eagles, were “mistakenly shot down by Kuwaiti air defences” during an active combat situation, as Iran issued retaliatory attacks across much of the Middle East.

 

In that incident, the six aircraft personnel on board the fighter jets ejected safely and were recovered in stable condition.

Western Leaders Pivot To Blaming "Putin's Hidden Hand" As Iran War Not Going To Plan

 

Western intelligence officials believe Russia's role in supporting Iran amid the US-Israeli military campaign is deepening, alongside potential expanding involvement by China.

 

Bloomberg, citing officials, writes in a fresh Thursday report: "Moscow is currently providing Iran with various forms of intelligence, including satellite imagery and drone targeting tactics, in an effort to help Iran hit back at US forces in the region, according to people familiar with US and Western intelligence."

 

Within the first week of Trump's Operation Epic Fury it was widely alleged that Russia was giving Iran targeting information concerning US bases and assets in the region.

 

While there's nothing in the way of smoking gun proof, all are in agreement that American bases have been hit hard, with US installations as far away as Jordan having suffered severe missile impact damage.

 

Western political leaders are now seizing on these allegations, to do more 'Putin is a global menace' hype. As a case in point:

 

“No one will be surprised to believe that Putin’s hidden hand is behind some of the Iranian tactics and potentially some of their capabilities as well,” UK Defence Secretary John Healey said at a military briefing in London on Thursday.

 

“Patterns of Iranian attack have the hallmarks of the way Russia is attacking Ukraine,” he said, adding that was to be expected “knowing how closely that alliance of aggression has been growing over the last few years.”

 

And they are also quickly saying the same of the 'China menace' - according to more from Bloomberg:

 

Following an intelligence briefing on Iran earlier this week, Senator Richard Blumenthal, Democrat of Connecticut, said Russia seems to be aiding Tehran “actively and intensively, with intelligence and perhaps with other means” and added that “China may also be assisting Iran.”

 

Trump's Iran gambit is certainly not going to plan, and may drag Washington into another (predictable) Middle East quagmire.

 

These flurry of recent reports accusing Russia and China of rushing to to aid the Islamic Republic's military machine seem motivated at least in part by a Washington political class who is completely unwilling to admit their own mistakes and stupidity.

'Moderate' Gov. Abigail Spanberger Expected To Sign Sweeping Gun Ban Into Law

 

Now that the Virginia General Assembly has passed what it calls “assault weapon ban” legislation, all that’s needed is for Gov. Abigail Spanberger to sign it into law, which is all but a given. Once signed, Senate Bill 749 will likely take effect as soon as July 1, 2026.

 

The law will ban the sale, import, manufacture, purchase, and transfer of what it describes as “assault firearms,” and it will treat high-capacity magazines that can hold 15 rounds or more in the same way. It will make any violations of the law a “Class 1 misdemeanor,” which could mean up to a year in jail and a $2,500 for a first offense.

 

While SB 749 does not explicitly ban AR-15 rifles, since the popular long rifle falls under the bill’s definition of assault weapons, it will be effectively banned.

 

A Bangladeshi immigrant who has served in the Virginia Senate since 2024 is the sponsor of the massively aggressive gun control legislation. Saddam Azlan Salim came to America when he was 10 years old, settling with his family in Fairfax County.

 

His bill, which will make guns with pistol grips, retractable stocks, and large magazines illegal for sale in Virginia, passed the state’s Senate on Feb. 9 by a close vote of 21-19.

 

On March 4, the House voted 59-35 for a substitute version of the bill, and on March 9, the Senate approved the substitute bill. This means the legislation is one signature away from law and the inevitable court fight that Second Amendment advocates hope will go all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court.

 

Gun Owners of America (GOA) pointed out that what’s being banned is not “rare or unusual,” emphasizing that “these are not unusual items.”

 

In a statement in the wake of the legislation’s passage, GOA said in part:

 

SB 749 is a blatant, unconstitutional attack on the people of Virginia and a direct violation of our God given right to keep and bear arms. It is the latest attempt by an anti gun Democrat legislature to strip citizens of their rights while pretending they are making anyone safer.

 

Instead of targeting criminals, it targets you. It punishes peaceful Virginians for exercising a constitutional right.

 

And make no mistake, this bill will trigger lawsuits resulting in years of expensive litigation for Virginia taxpayers, who will be forced to fund the Commonwealth’s legal defense of obviously infringing legislation.

UN Security Council Passes Iran War Resolution, Yet With No Mention Of US Or Israel

 

Many independent pundits have long complained of the emptiness of the United Nations as some kind of 'moral authority' - given it often claims to be just this. The vacuous nature of UN statements connected to war is on display once again as the Security Council (UNSC) issued a formal condemnation of the Iran war on Wednesday, but without mentioning either the United States or Israel at all.

 

For this reason, Iran quickly slammed the vote, also as Russia and China abstained. The passed resolution demands an end to Iranian attacks across the Gulf, and notably made zero reference to US or Israeli strikes on Iran.

 

It was tabled Bahrain and backed by 135 countries, and calls for "the immediate cessation of all attacks by the Islamic Republic of Iran against Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Jordan."

 

It further condemns actions or threats by Iran "aimed at closing, obstructing, or otherwise interfering with international navigation through the Strait of Hormuz."

 

The measure passed 13-0, and a second draft resolution was proposed by Moscow, which called on all sides to cease hostilities, however it failed to pass.

 

US Ambassador to the UN Mike Walz stated: "Iran's strategy of sowing chaos, of trying to hold their neighbours hostage, trying to shake the resolve of the region, has clearly backfired, as shown by this vote today."

 

China's UN envoy Fu Cong said the text "does not fully reflect the root cause and overall picture of the conflict in a balanced manner."

 

The US and Israel attacked Iran on February 28, without warning, and while Iran was engaged in several rounds of nuclear talks with Trump envoys.

GOP Senators Approve Coast Guard Commander Promotion Despite Whistleblower Retaliation

 

UPDATE: Millard's nomination passed the Senate Commerce Committee on Thursday afternoon on a party-line vote, with 15 Republicans voting for his promotion and 13 Democrats voting against it. The nomination now moves to the U.S. Senate for a full vote.

 

A promotion to captain for Coast Guard Lt. Cdr. Jesse Millard remains on the table and will be in the U.S. Senate's hands.

 

A past whistleblower complaint and an inspector general’s report caused Democratic lawmakers to revisit the nomination in the days preceding a final vote on Thursday afternoon. The Republican majority on the Senate Commerce Committee vaulted Millard, with 15 Republicans voting "yes" and 13 Democrats voting "no," according to audio recordings and transcripts provided to Military.com.

 

Military.com previously learned that a letter from a whistleblower, former Coast Guard Commander Dr. Kimberly McLear, was written March 2, 2026, and addressed to all members of the Senate Commerce Committee through an online whistleblower portal prior to a markup session. Millard was first nominated for promotion to captain in November 2023, but had that nomination pulled on March 7, 2024.

 

McLear denounced Millard’s nomination and strongly discouraged his being promoted, citing a previous independent investigation by the Department of Homeland Security Office of Inspector General (DHS OIG) finding that Millard engaged in whistleblower retaliation against his subordinate (McLear), amid other accusations including violating the Military Whistleblower Protection Act.

 

In that March 2 correspondence to the committee, McLear painted a bleak picture of government mistrust, saying that a promotion for Millard would “perpetuate a pattern of institutional failure that Congress has already rightfully and strongly condemned.”

 

“I was a high-performing, permanent professor at the Coast Guard Academy with the ability to serve my country in uniform for up to 30 years, but my career was cut short by 10 years because of the abuse I endured and the debilitating PTSD that has followed ever since,” McLear wrote. The report in question never once mentions PTSD.

 

“His career advanced with fanfare, like many others the Coast Guard never held accountable. The Coast Guard has never formally apologized to me, nor have they ever held a single person who harmed me and was found guilty by the OIG and Congress, accountable,” she added.

After a nerve-racking 24 hours, Team USA can exhale.

The U.S. officially punched its ticket to the quarterfinals of the 2026 World Baseball Classic with Italy’s 9-1 win over Mexico on Wednesday at Daikin Park in Houston. With a 3-1 record, Team USA finished second in Pool B and will advance to face Canada in the quarterfinals on Friday at 8 p.m. ET on FOX.

Rep. Jim Clyburn (D-S.C.) will run for reelection this November, he announced Thursday, bucking calls for generational change in his party even as other longtime Democratic Party power brokers plan to leave Washington.

 

“Today I’m going to answer a question that is always asked,” Clyburn said at the South Carolina Democratic Headquarters in downtown Columbia. “What is there unfinished or what more you need to do? Well, it’s in the Preamble of our Constitution. We exist in pursuit of a more perfect union.”

 

Clyburn, 85, was first elected in 1992 and has served 17 terms in the House, including a stint as majority whip. Working alongside Reps. Nancy Pelosi and Steny Hoyer, he helped shepherd many of the key Democratic policy wins of the era, including the Affordable Care Act and the Inflation Reduction Act.

 

The coming legislative session will mark his first without Pelosi and Hoyer as House colleagues. The pair is set to retire next year.

 

Clyburn, a longtime Democratic Party power broker, became the first Black congressman to represent South Carolina in nearly 100 years. He’s evolved into a kingmaker in his home state and for the Democratic Party nationally.

 

He is a fierce defender of the state’s early primary, and his endorsement of Joe Biden in January 2020 helped catapult what was a flagging campaign all the way to the nomination and eventually the White House.

 

Clyburn’s 6th District is heavily Democratic and he will be the big favorite to win again, although some Republicans in the state have sought to target his seat in redistricting.

REPORT: Florida lawmakers just passed one of the boldest medical freedom bills in America, and the move could ripple across the country.

 

The bill, known as the Medical Freedom Act (SB 1756), cleared the Florida Senate in a 23–15 vote and supporters say it marks a major push for medical autonomy.

 

At its core, the legislation creates a new “conscience exemption” for vaccine requirements in K–12 schools, giving parents stronger authority over medical decisions affecting their children. It also requires schools to provide detailed information before a vaccine is administered and before parents apply for an exemption.

 

The bill goes further by reinforcing Florida’s ban on discrimination based on mRNA vaccination status and adding protections against forced vaccinations during future emergencies.

 

Another headline-grabbing provision would allow ivermectin to be sold behind the counter to adults 18 and older without a prescription.

 

A similar bill has been introduced in the Florida House, but its fate there remains uncertain. If it clears the lower chamber and reaches the governor’s desk, Florida could become the first state to implement protections like these.
