Giuliani famously campaigned with Trump and a group of Republicans to overturn the 2020 election results, citing unverified fraud that later opened him up to defamation suits he settled in court.

'Mayor Rudy Giuliani was the most transformative figure in the history of NY City politics,' Former Deputy FBI Director Dan Bongino wrote.

Infant mortality rate fell to a historic low of 11.05 deaths per 1,000 live births in 2020. Then it rose 37% to 15.11 by 2024. Giulian hospitalized for pneumonia, illness exacerbated by 9-11 toxins and dust, spokesperson

Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani's respiratory illness was exacerbated by his exposure to toxins and dust from the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001, his spokesperson said.

Giuliani, 81, remains in critical but stable condition, the Associated Press reported, after suffering a bout of pneumonia. He's being monitored as a precautionary measure.

Iran launches onslaught of missiles and drones in fiery revenge attack on Trump ally after US military move

Iran launched four missiles at a US-backed Middle Eastern ally on Monday and blew up a major oil port, following Donald Trump's move to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

The United Arab Emirates issued a missile alert on Monday morning, the first since the fragile ceasefire between the US and Iran was announced last month.

The UAE's Defense Ministry said it intercepted three missiles, while a fourth 'fell into the sea.' An official noted that the country's air defenses 'are currently dealing with missile attacks and incoming drones from Iran.'

Tehran's decision to launch these attacks officially resumes hostilities between Iran and the US in the Middle East.

Authorities also announced that a massive fire broke out at the Fujairah Oil Industry Zones on Monday following a drone attack from Iran. Rescue teams were deployed to contain the inferno, Reuters reports.

A senior US official said that US warships and aircraft protected several commercial vessels from Iranian attacks earlier on Monday, according to the Wall Street Journal. Sources said an Iranian drone successfully struck an Marshall Islands-linked oil vessel named the JV Innovation while it was attempting to move through the strait.

US warships responded to the cruise missile fire by sinking six small Iranian boats, Central Command told reporters. The number of casualties from the Iranian attacks remains unclear.

The ongoing military aggression from Iran comes after Trump's announcement that the US military would begin escorting stranded oil vessels through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical waterway that handles one-fifth of the world's oil transport.

The Daily Mail has contacted the White House for comment.

Trump responded to Iran's aggression by claiming it would be 'blown off the face of the earth' if the regime attacks US ships guiding vessels in the strait.

Trump launched an effort on Monday to guide commercial tankers through the Strait of Hormuz, where hundreds have been stuck since the Iran war began on February 28.

Tehran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) responded by warning that any ship found violating the regime's maritime rules will be stopped by force.

US Central Command later confirmed the Navy would help commercial ships transit the Strait of Hormuz under an operation dubbed 'Project Freedom,' advising them on how to avoid mines and protecting them from Iranian attacks.

The uncertainty over control of the strait comes as two US-flagged vessels have successfully passed through waterway, the US military said on Monday.

The closure of the strait has driven gas prices to some of their highest levels since 2022, averaging $4.40 a gallon, up 30 cents in a week.

'Project Freedom' will reportedly include a vast number of guided-missile destroyers, drones, more than 100 land and sea-based aircraft, and the infantry support of 15,000 troops, CENTCOM announced.

Another US official told Axios that military officers have been authorized to strike immediate threats to naval assets, including Iran's speedboats.

Iran has managed to effectively close off the Strait of Hormuz in recent months through a combination of small attack boats, drones, and sea mines laid in the narrow waterway.

US forces have also established an 'enhanced security area' that advises oil vessels to cross the waterway through Omani waters.

However, vessel traffic remains at a standstill, with most ships transiting Hormuz using the Iranian traffic separation scheme rather than Trump's "Project Freedom" corridor closer to Oman.

Israeli Extremist Shoved and Kicked Nun in Latest in String of Attacks on Christians

Israel: A Jewish man wearing a tzitzit religious garment ran up behind a Catholic nun and forcefully shoved her to the ground, walked away, and then returned to kick her. Reports on X named Yonah Schreiber, 36, as the suspect who was arrested for the crime.

The Religious Freedom Data Center says that attacks like that on the nun are common, and last year numbered 181. So far this year, the center has recorded more than three dozen attacks.

The attack was the latest in a series of harassment and violence against Christians. Last month, an Israel Defense Forces (IDF) soldier appeared to destroy a statue of Jesus with a sledgehammer in Lebanon. Kiev conducted rocket and drone strikes on an agricultural facility in Bryansk Region, Aleksandr Bogomaz has said

Seven workers from an agricultural facility in Bryansk Region, Russia were wounded after Ukrainian forces carried out a “barbaric” rocket strike, Governor Aleksandr Bogomaz reported on Monday.

The attack targeted the Miratorg agro-industrial holding in the village of Brovnichi, Klimovsky District, causing damage to production facilities. While the injured were being evacuated, Kiev launched a follow-up drone attack.

“Inhumanity and terrorism are the methods of the Kiev regime,” Bogomaz wrote on Telegram, adding that the wounded have been hospitalized and are receiving treatment.

Hours earlier, Bogomaz reported another attack on a Miratorg truck in the settlement of Senchury, Suzemsky District. The driver was wounded when a kamikaze drone deliberately struck his moving vehicle.

Ukrainian UAVs also attacked the territory of a Russian Post office in the village of Demyanki, injuring a driver and a postal worker, Bogomaz said. Both of the victims have been taken to the hospital to receive medical care.

Last week, another Miratorg facility in the region was attacked by a Ukrainian drone in the village of Brakhlov. One company employee was killed in the strike and equipment was damaged.

Since the start of the conflict with Russia, Ukrainian forces have repeatedly targeted Russian border regions. Since mid-March, Kiev has intensified its attacks, deploying hundreds of fixed-wing UAVs on a daily basis, targeting critical infrastructure, manufacturing facilities, and residential areas.

Russian officials have described the aerial incursions as desperate “terrorist attacks” meant to compensate for the setbacks the Ukrainian military has been suffering on the battlefield.

250 Years: Old North Church Is the Living Story of America

Best known for its role in the American Revolution, the Christ Church in the City of Boston is still home to a thriving Episcopal congregation.

The American Revolution started in a church.

Two lanterns in the steeple of Boston’s Old North Church signaled the movement of British troops on April 18, 1775, providing early warning for the Patriots.

Our celebration of America’s 250th anniversary would be incomplete without some mention of this historic house of worship, which now welcomes more than half a million visitors each year as a National Historical Landmark.

But the Old North Church is not merely a museum. It’s a living, breathing Christian congregation and the oldest Episcopal church in the city.

Its story did not begin or end with the exploits of its Patriot members. This is a generational saga of perseverance in the face of challenge, adaptation to continual change, and, above all, unwavering fidelity to the vision of its founders.

It is a story of faith and a story of liberty. The story of Old North Church is the story of America.

Prosperous Colonies, Flourishing Faith

Old North Church, formally known as Christ Church, was created by growth in the British Province of Massachusetts Bay and its principal city, Boston.

By 1723, when the church was founded, the region had been inhabited by colonists for more than 100 years. King’s Chapel, the first Anglican church in Boston, was bursting at the seams.

Christ Church was established to accommodate the expansion of the city and its body of Anglican worshipers. The Rev. Dr. Timothy Cutler dedicated the church with the biblical vision to be “a House of Prayer for all people.”

The church continued to grow along with the country, which was in the midst of a religious revival that came to be known as the Great Awakening.

English minister Charles Wesley, who had founded Methodism in Britain along with his brother John Wesley, preached at Christ Church multiple times in 1736 during a speaking tour of the colonies.

Christ Church is located in Boston’s well-to-do North End and drew wealthy merchants and sea captains as well as farmers and sailors. Some freedmen and some enslaved blacks worshiped at Christ Church, too, as slavery was still legal in the British colonies.

While people of color were welcome to attend services, they were relegated to the second-level gallery. Wealthier members, some of whom were slaveholders, purchased reserved pews on the main level.

The congregation added a steeple in 1740, making Christ Church the tallest structure in Boston at the time. Ten years later, a 15-year-old Paul Revere became a bell ringer at the church.

Loyalists and Patriots

The late 1700s were marked by political tension in the increasingly prosperous British colonies. Patriots agitated for independence. Tories were loyal to the crown.

Christ Church contained both.

Robert Newman, the church sexton, was a Patriot. He sat in a pew on the east side of one aisle. Gen. Thomas Gage, commander of the British forces in Boston, sat on the west side.

The political tensions reached a breaking point when British forces prepared to move on a colonial arsenal in the town of Concord.

Mather Byles, the loyalist pastor, resigned on April 18, 1775.

That night, Newman and John Pulling Jr., another church leader, lit the famous lanterns in the church steeple.

That was just the beginning of the church’s role in the war.

Two months later, Gage watched the Battle of Bunker Hill from the church steeple. His trusted subordinate, Maj. John Pitcairn, was fatally wounded in the fighting. Pitcarin, also a member of Christ Church, was buried in the church crypt.

The building served as a British military hospital during the hostilities, according to local lore.

Byles left for Nova Scotia in 1776. Others moved away, too, leaving only a handful of Christ Church families in Boston.

The church closed the day the lanterns were lit and remained closed for three years.

New Country, New Church

Christ Church reopened in August 1778 after a former chaplain in the British army switched sides and swore allegiance to the United States. Prayers for the Continental Congress soon replaced prayers for the king in the church’s prayer book.

Yet when the war ended, little returned to normal for either the church or the fledgling nation.

The former colonies disagreed on how to form a government. Christ Church grappled with divisions too.

After the war, an influx of Huguenots nearly overwhelmed the weakened congregation, threatening a shift away from its historic expression of the Christian faith. But former members were returning in numbers great enough to maintain their Anglican traditions.

In 1789, Christ Church became part of the newly formed Protestant Episcopal Church in the United States, formalizing its break with the official church of England but maintaining its beliefs and worship practices.

Boston itself was changed by the war.

The North End had become home to many of the thousands of immigrants arriving in the country. Wealthier families relocated to Beacon Hill, leaving their old neighborhood one of the poorest in the city.

By 1803, Christ Church was in “a state of feebleness and depression,” a pastor later reported.

Urban Renewal

Fortunes changed for the church with the arrival of a new pastor in 1805.

The Rev. Dr. Asa Eaton led the church through a period of expansion—not among wealthy merchants but among the immigrants who provided labor for America’s growing industrialization.

Eaton started a Sunday school, which was open to young people of all denominations, including black students. In those days, Sunday schools were the only education available to many working people and focused on reading, writing, and arithmetic.

The church embraced the new ministry. The congregation formed the Fragment Society to provide suitable clothing for poor students. Children would pick up the clothing to wear on Sunday and return it on Monday.

When Christ Church celebrated its 100th anniversary in 1823, it was a congregation of about 500.

Eaton recorded more than 650 people baptized and 240 couples married between 1805 and 1823. More than 1,000 children attended the Sunday school in its first nine years, and more than 3,000 books were distributed.

“That same period has been marked by a corresponding growth in its members in the virtues and graces of the divine life,” Eaton told the congregation in his centennial sermon.

Ten years later, the once financially strapped congregation had enough funding to undertake an extensive renovation of its historic building.

Conflict and Attrition

Twenty-eight states were added to the Union during the 19th century. But the rapid expansion intensified the debate over slavery, which erupted into civil war in 1861.

The trajectory of Christ Church was similar.

Though the church had regained its footing, it, like the nation, had not come to grips with the issues of race and slavery.

In 1933, the church hosted Rev. William Levington, a black Episcopal minister from Baltimore. Levington was raising money for his church, which was also used as a school for black children.

Yet historians note that Levington may have been permitted to speak at Christ Church only on the strong recommendation of Eaton, the beloved pastor who had by then moved to another parish.

A newspaper announcement of the event noted that people of color would still be required to sit in the gallery.

When the Massachusetts Anti-Slavery Society sought meeting space in Boston churches in 1837, the leader of the Episcopal mission responded that Episcopal churches were to be used for religious purposes only.

He stated that although the anti–slavery clause was benevolent, it was political.

“The 19th century Episcopal Church never took a firm stance on slavery,” historian Jaimie D. Crumley said in a Feb. 24 video. “Perhaps the ministers believed that abolition was not a spiritual cause.”

The church sank into a period of decline. By 1843, Sunday attendance had slipped to 381. Factions within the church quarreled with one another, leading to a series of lawsuits in the 1850s.

Meanwhile, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow’s poem “Paul Revere’s Ride” was published in 1860, and the Old North Church gained national attention for its role in the Revolution as a result.

As the 20th century opened, the church’s condition mirrored that of 100 years before—dwindling in congregation numbers, financially challenged, and struggling to maintain an aging facility.

The church’s Sunday school closed in 1907, and its pastor, who found himself preaching to nearly empty pews, resigned. Some argued that the church should be closed and the building used exclusively as a historic site.

However in 1912, an Episcopal bishop stepped in to organize a renovation, raising more than $25,000 for the purpose.

Once again, the church found a way to carry on, organizing a hospitality society to provide entertainment and accommodations for soldiers and sailors.

Visitors and Worshipers

At the close of World War II, the presiding bishop faced a dilemma. Under the bylaws, the church was owned by the pew holders, of whom there were fewer than 40—and most attended other churches.

So in 1946, the bishop reorganized the congregation under a new constitution and bylaws. The bishop also made improvements to the building. The church could be toured by the public but would still be the congregation’s place of worship.

The federal government added Christ Church to the list of National Historical Landmarks in 1961.

President Gerald Ford visited Old North on the 200th anniversary of Revere’s ride—April 18, 1975. The president spoke of America as a great experiment.

“Over the decades, there were challenges to that experiment,” Ford said, speaking of the nation and, perhaps unknowingly, describing the church as well.

“Could a nation half-slave and half-free survive? Could a society with such a mixture of peoples and races and religions succeed? Would the new Nation be swallowed up in the materialism of its own well-being?”

The congregation of Christ Church grappled with those questions around the time of its 300th anniversary in 2023.

Longtime member Ann Sheets commented on the congregation’s journey, Vicar Matthew Caldwell reported at the time.

“Adaptation to changing times is a principle of our history, alongside our contribution to the nation and its development,” Sheets said.

“We have wrestled with what it means to be a symbol of freedom, knowing that many of our earliest members were far from free,” Caldwell said.

Today, the congregation is like many others, despite its fame as a historic site. On a Sunday, the pews may be filled, with perhaps half of the attendees being visitors.

In addition to Sunday worship, Christ Church conducts young adult and children’s ministries, holds Bible studies, and provides financial support and volunteers to charitable organizations.

“Through these ministries we grow in our understanding and practice of the Christian faith, deepen our worship experience and appreciation of the sacred, strengthen and support each other, and serve our neighbors nearby and across the world,” the church website states.

“Many find themselves and their story somewhere in our story,” Caldwell said.

“This majestic church has witnessed 300 years of history, of triumphs and struggles, of division and reconciliation, the evil of slavery, the lights of freedom and abundant, amazing grace.

“Through it all, we have endeavored to be a house of prayer for all people shining ever brighter as beacons of justice and light.”

GOP Senate report says Obama officials gave Iran access to US financial system

A new Senate GOP-authored report alleges that top officials in the Obama administrationsecretly authorized Iran to convert assets to the U.S. dollar, even after the officials repeatedly assured Congress that no such financial transactions would take place under the 2015 nuclear deal.

Sen. Rob Portman (R-Ohio), chairman of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, unveiled the new report on Wednesday, claiming top government officials granted a “license” that would allow the “conversion of Iranian assets worth billions of U.S. dollars using the U.S. financial system.” {mosads}

“Senior U.S. government officials repeatedly testified to Congress that Iranian access to the U.S. financial system was not on the table or part of any deal,” the report reads.

“Despite these claims, the U.S. Department of the Treasury, at the direction of the U.S. State Department, granted a specific license that authorized a conversion of Iranian assets worth billions of U.S. dollars using the U.S. financial system,” it continues.

The transactions didn’t go through, however, because two U.S. banks refused to comply with the administration’s request to convert the money over legal and reputational concerns, the report says.

The report cites multiple instances where top officials such as Treasury Secretary Jack Lew pledged before Congress and the public that Iran would not have access to the U.S. financial system, both before and after authorizing the license.

“The Obama administration misled the American people and Congress because they were desperate to get a deal with Iran,” Portman said in a statement.

Under President Obama, the U.S. and several other nations signed the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) with Iran in the summer of 2015, a pact that aimed to curb development of Iran’s nuclear program. In exchange, the U.S. agreed to lift some of its economic sanctions issued against Iran.

Despite this financial relief, most of the U.S. sanctions directed at Iran generally remained in effect, which barred U.S. persons, financial institutions and other groups from conducting business with Iran and its parties.

The Omani Bank Muscat, on behalf of Iran, asked that the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) convert $5.7 billion in assets, a request that came shortly after the JCPOA went into effect, because foreign banks were having problems converting Iran’s assets, the report says.

Iran wanted to convert the Omani rials to euros, but the Omani rial’s value is tied to the U.S. dollar. In order for the conversion to be complete, the rials had to be converted to U.S. dollars, which would then be converted into euros. The report says that this conversion process was not allowed under U.S. sanctions and that there were other options available to convert such funds — just less efficient.

Despite this, OFAC provided Bank Muscat with a specific license in February 2016, authorizing roughly $5.7 billion worth of Iranian assets to be processed through the U.S. financial system, the report says.

U.S. officials at OFAC then tried to encourage two banks to make such conversions.

Putin Fears Drone Assassination Attempt, Coup, Intelligence Leak Claims

Russian President Vladimir Putin reportedly fears an assassination attempt, including the possible use of drones, as well as a potential coup attempt from within Russia’s political and security elite.

The claims are based on a leaked European intelligence report cited by Russian outlet Important Stories [Vazhnyye Novosti] and CNN.

According to the publication, the document describes the “real state of affairs” inside the Kremlin and was allegedly leaked by a source linked to a European intelligence agency.

The source reportedly holds an official position in a European government and risks professional consequences if the document proves to be part of a disinformation effort.

Important Stories noted that the authenticity of the material cannot be independently verified, but said it had reviewed the report in full. Kyiv Post wasn’t able to independently verify the claims.

Fears of assassination and internal conspiracy

According to the report, since early March, the Kremlin has been increasingly concerned about leaks of sensitive information and the possibility of a conspiracy or attempted coup against Putin.

It specifically states that Putin fears a potential assassination attempt involving drones, allegedly linked to members of Russia’s political elite.

In response, the Federal Protective Service (FSO) has reportedly significantly tightened security measures around the Russian president.

Security tightened around Putin

The report outlines a series of alleged security changes around Putin and his inner circle.

According to the document, visitors to the presidential administration now undergo two levels of screening, including full searches conducted by FSO officers.

It also claims that the list of locations Putin regularly visits has been significantly reduced. The report says that neither Putin nor his family are currently staying at their usual residences in the Moscow region or in Valdai.

Instead, it alleges that since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Putin has frequently been based in modernized bunkers, including facilities in the Krasnodar region, where he can reportedly work for extended periods while Russian media continue to use pre-recorded footage.

It further claims that no visits to military facilities have been organized this year, in contrast to frequent trips in 2025, and that internet and communication shutdowns are periodically imposed in parts of Moscow.

Security measures are also said to include extensive FSO sweeps, with canine units deployed and personnel stationed along the Moskva River to counter potential drone attacks.

The report adds that the FSO is responsible for monitoring and approving media content involving Putin under a secret decree.

Staff working in close proximity to the Russian president are reportedly banned from using mobile phones and are required to use offline devices.

They are also said to be prohibited from using public transport and must rely exclusively on FSO vehicles, while surveillance systems are allegedly installed in the homes of personnel such as cooks, photographers, and security staff.

Concerns over coup risks and elite tensions

The report also links growing internal tensions to former Defense Minister and current Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu.

It claims that Shoigu is associated with potential coup risks due to his continued influence within the military leadership.

The arrest of his former deputy Ruslan Tsalikov on March 5 – on charges of embezzlement, money laundering, and bribery, according to Russia’s Investigative Committee – is presented in the report as a sign of weakening informal protections among the elite.

However, no evidence is provided linking Shoigu, who was previously considered one of Putin’s closest allies, personally to any wrongdoing.

CNN also references the June 2023 mutiny led by Wagner Group head Yevgeny Prigozhin, describing it as a failed coup attempt against Putin.

The intelligence report further claims that concerns over the safety of senior military officials have intensified tensions between Russia’s security agencies.

Following the assassination of Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov in December 2025, Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov reportedly called for a Security Council meeting to address internal security failures.

Internal disputes within security leadership

At a closed Security Council meeting held in December, the report claims senior officials blamed one another for gaps in protection systems exposed by Ukrainian attacks.

Federal Security Service (FSB) Director Alexander Bortnikov reportedly said it is impossible to fully prevent such attacks and criticized the Defense Ministry for lacking dedicated protection units for senior officers.

Rosgvardia chief Viktor Zolotov reportedly rejected responsibility for protecting Defense Ministry officials, sparking tensions with Gerasimov.

Putin is said to have urged calm and ordered officials to submit proposals to improve the situation.

Expanded protection for senior officials

Following the meeting, Putin reportedly held discussions with FSO Director Dmitry Kochnev. It was decided to expand the list of individuals under enhanced protection.

Previously, such protection applied only to Gerasimov. According to the report, it has now been extended to ten senior generals, including three deputy chiefs of the General Staff.

Claims of corroboration

Important Stories said some details in the report are supported by independent sources.

A former FSB officer reportedly told the outlet that the FSO – not the FSB – is behind widespread internet shutdowns in Moscow, although the publication noted it had previously lacked a second source to confirm this.

The outlet also said multiple sources within Russia’s security services confirmed heightened fears of a conspiracy or assassination attempt.

According to the report, internal priorities have shifted, with some surveillance resources redirected toward monitoring government agencies rather than traditional criminal cases.

Authorities arrested Mack in April of 2018 in connection with allegations she was a recruiter of women for the NXIVM sex cult.

She was released from the Federal Correctional Institution, Dublin, in California in July 2023 after serving 21 months behind bars.

Sudan drone strike kills 17 relatives of defector to armed forces

A drone strike blamed on Sudan's Rapid Support Forces has killed 17 members of the family of a former paramilitary officer who defected to the army, witnesses and officials said on Monday.

A separate drone, also suspected to have been launched by the RSF, targeted Khartoum International Airport, leading to operations being suspended, the military-aligned Ministry of Information said. There were no casualties nor material damage, it added.

“Normal aviation operations will soon resume at Khartoum Airport once routine measures are completed,” a statement read.

Video clips posted online show smoke rising from what was purportedly the airport's grounds. The National could not independently verify the footage.

Witnesses and officials said the earlier strike hit the home of Abu Aqla Kaikal in the village of Al Kahly Zeidan, in Al Jazeera state, south of Khartoum, late on Saturday. Among those killed was his younger brother, Azzam.

The brothers had served in Sudan Shield, an auxiliary force allied with the army against the RSF in a civil war now entering its fourth year.

Gen Abdel Fattah Al Burhan, the army chief and Sudan's de facto leader, visited Al Kahly Zeidan on Sunday night to offer his condolences, the military-led Sovereign Council said, blaming the attack on the RSF.

It was not clear whether the defector was in the house at the time of the attack. However, a video clip widely shared on Monday purported to show him in the region of Kordofan, south-west of the capital.

“Targeting women and children is a crime that lays bare the nature of the militia [RSF] and will not negatively impact on combat operations or the morale of the fighters,” he said in the footage.

The home was hit by projectiles launched from a drone, said the witnesses and officials. The RSF has not claimed responsibility for the attack.

Mr Kaikal, an experienced military commander, defected to the army in 2024 and went on to play a pivotal role in recapturing Al Jazeera state, Sudan's agricultural heartland, before pushing towards Khartoum.

His Sudan Shield fighters are now in Kordofan in western Sudan and Blue Nile in the south.

Mr Kaikal had been the most senior RSF commander to defect to the army until this month, when senior general Al Nour Ahmed Adam fled from the RSF-held western region of Darfur and joined the armed forces in northern Sudan.

Saturday's attack appeared to be a reprisal and may signal the start of targeted killings aimed at figures who shape the battlefield, such as Kaikal.

Following his defection, Gen Adam was stripped of his rank and sentenced to death in absentia by a paramilitary court, according to an RSF statement.

The attack on the Kaikal family home also underlined the increasing use by both sides of long-range drones.

In the past, the two sides have occasionally targeted the seats of their rival administrations – Port Sudan, where the military-aligned government is based, and Nyala in Darfur, seat of the RSF-backed administration.

Besides the attack on the Kaikal family home, the latest drone missions blamed on the RSF took place on Friday and Saturday and again on Monday, according to the witnesses and officials.

The targets included the radio and television station and army positions in the city of Al Obeid in Kordofan, as well as military installations in Omdurman, one of the three cities that comprise the greater Khartoum area. The other two are Khartoum and Bahri.

In one attack, a car was hit in a military zone of the greater Khartoum area, killing its six occupants. Emergency Lawyers, a private Sudanese group that monitors the war, confirmed the attack on the car and the death toll. It said the RSF was responsible.

The war in Sudan broke out in April 2023, when months of tension between army chief Gen Al Burhan and RSF commander Gen Mohamed Dagalo over their future in a democratic Sudan boiled over into open conflict in Khartoum before it swiftly spread.

The war has to date killed tens of thousands, displaced more than 13 million people and created the world's worst humanitarian crisis, with some 25 million – about half the population – facing hunger or food shortages.

Both Gen Al Burhan and Gen Dagalo claim to be fighting for a democratic and prosperous Sudan but they are widely believed by opponents to be pursuing their goal of ruling the impoverished though resource-rich country.
