Qatar approves setting up global data centre for Microsoft

The Qatari cabinet yesterday approved plans to set up a global data centre for Microsoft’s cloud platform Azure and took measures to draft a law to create a Media City.

The cabinet said in a statement that the Media City will have an independent budget and its borders and coordinates will be determined by the Council of Ministers.

The Media City aims to manage and develop media activity and attract international media and technology companies as well as research and training institutions in the fields of media and digital media.

South Africa’s Cape Town and Johannesburg were also among Abu Dhabi and Dubai as newly announced Middle Eastern and African regions that Microsoft have secured. Azure has 54 regions worldwide and is available in 140 countries.

Bennet helped give Pelosi a send-off at the elegant embassy Wednesday as she was to become the first lawmaker since the powerful Sam Rayburn to take on the speakership for a second time.

Antifa destroys bar rented to German populist party to fight “fascism”

The Schneiders, a married couple, came onto Antifa’s radar because they rented a hall to the right-wing Alternative for Germany for an event in Leipzig.

The bar was attacked by Antifa and had to remain closed for six weeks after the attack.

Multiple windows were broken in the restaurant and hall, tar colour was spread on roughly 100 square meters, all of the furniture was ruined as well as the floor. The damages totalled 55,000 euros.

Prior to the attack people called to take pictures of the premises under false pretences. On 9 November, shortly before the AfD district party convention, the incident took place.

Indymedia a left-wing extremist website celebrated the attack as a fight against fascism because the bar had been rented to the AfD multiple times since 2016 and called for the fight against “fascism” to continue.

The anonymous operators of the website are afraid the AfD will become the second if not strongest party in the state elections in 2019.

Saxony experienced a total of 13 similar incidents since March. Special police units dealing with terrorism and extremism are leading the investigations.

Merkel’s Christian Democrats and their former Prime Minister of Saxony Kurt Biedenkopf are also said to have been to the bar before.

The Schneiders have now installed cameras and alarm systems. They believe there is no way around it anymore.

The FBI is Trying Amazon’s Facial-Recognition Software

The software allows the FBI to go through video surveillance footage much faster than agents can.

The FBI is piloting Amazon’s facial matching software—Amazon Rekognition—as a means to sift through mountains of video surveillance footage the agency routinely collects during investigations.

The pilot kicked off in early 2018 following a string of high-profile counterterrorism investigations that tested the limits of the FBI’s technological capabilities, according to FBI officials.

For example, in the 2017 mass shooting in Las Vegas carried out by Stephen Paddock, the law enforcement agency collected a petabyte worth of data, much of it video from cellphones and surveillance cameras.

“We had agents and analysts, eight per shift, working 24/7 for three weeks going through the video footage of everywhere Stephen Paddock was the month leading up to him coming and doing the shooting,” said FBI Deputy Assistant Director for Counterterrorism Christine Halvorsen.

Halvorsen made those remarks in November at the Amazon Web Services re:Invent conference in Las Vegas, where she described how the FBI is using Amazon’s cloud platforms to carry out counterterrorism investigations. She said Amazon Rekognition could have gone through the same trove of data from the Las Vegas shooting “in 24 hours”—or three weeks faster than it took human FBI agents to find every instance of Paddock’s face in the mountain of video.

“Think about that,” Halvorsen said, noting that technology like Amazon Rekognition frees up FBI agents and analysts to apply their skills to other aspects of the investigation or other cases.

“The cases don’t stop, the threats keep going,” Halvorsen added. “Being able to not pull people off that and have computers do it is very important.”

While Amazon is now a significant supplier of technology to the government—much of it through its cloud business, AWS, which includes the CIA and Defense Department as customers—it is less clear how its facial recognition software is being used in the public sector. The Daily Beast reported the company pitched the software to Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials last summer, a move that has lawmakers and Amazon employees asking questions. The company does not list any federal clients on its customer page, and currently only identifies as a customer one local law enforcement agency, the Washington County Sheriff Office.

Once a customer, the city of Orlando canceled its own pilot of Amazon Rekognition last June after public outcry over civil liberties.

Colombia coca production: US 'deeply concerned' by rise

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo says he is "deeply concerned" about the increased production of coca leaf, the raw material for cocaine, in Colombia.

A Response To FBI Anon

I will make this quick because I know how much you all love to reply with the “You wrote so much text” meme.

I want to directly respond to the supposed “FBI Anon” (or whoever this Anon was), and by extension Q because I want to address the main focus of his post, which was our impatience.

I agree with the “FBI Anon” that some of us may seem a bit impatient but please allow me to highlight why we may seem impatient.

You see, some of us have known that a literal Satanic Cabal has been controlling our government from the inside since 9/11. Some of us knew since the assignation of JFK, and some of us knew even before that and some of us who are Christians, have always known.

What I’m trying to say is this; I appreciate and completely understand why this is taking a long time but please exercise patience with some of us who have been waiting for this moment for a lot longer than the new Q followers. Again, some of us have known long before Q took off, so for those who just jumped on board, I salute you but I also wanted to share that the impatience originates from people who have been dreaming about flushing these sick freakin’ weirdos down the tubes for years, if not decades in some cases.

Even though we may be impatient we are impatient because we can’t wait (as in looking breathlessly forward to), for justice to be served. We’re good people, we’re Americans, we love our country, and some of us love & worship Christ Almighty. I know that if some of us could, we would join you in whatever capacity necessary but for now, we’re still your “digital soldiers.”
