Italian journalist Stefania Maurizi has worked with WikiLeaks for nine years on the Podesta emails and other revelations. Here’s an insider’s view of the publisher, which has incensed rulers around the world, desperate to hide their corruption.

Many media outlets continue to report that the Podesta emails were released only minutes after the Access Hollywood video aired, hinting at some sort of coordination between WikiLeaks and the Trump campaign. In a indictment issued last Friday, Robert S. Mueller III, the special counsel investigating the alleged Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. elections, charged 12 officers of the Russian military intelligence service, GRU, for having allegedly hacked both the DNC and Podesta emails and allegedly passed them on to WikiLeaks for publication.

I have no idea who WikiLeaks’ sources were for the Podesta emails: the whole concept of WikiLeaks is based on the submission of secret or otherwise restricted documents by anonymous sources. Assange said numerous times that his source for the Clinton emails was not the Russian government nor a state party.

As I worked on the Podesta emails, I do know that their publication was not a last-second decision. I had been alerted the day before, and their staggered release was a choice WikiLeaks made after the organization was harshly criticized by mainstream media for publishing the DNC documents all at once. This time the emails would trickle out to make them easier for the public to digest. But that was criticized too by the U.S. media and the Democrats as an attempt to leave Clinton bleeding a few weeks before the elections.

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has restored grazing permits for the Hammond family from Oregon after losing the right to graze following federal charges that were later pardoned.

The announcement was made on Jan. 28 that Hammond Ranches would be able to graze their BLM allotments again. The BLM had stripped the right to graze after Dwight and Steven Hammond were convicted of felony arson in 2012. They were sentenced to five years imprisonment under the Antiterrorism and Effective Death Penalty Act of 1996.

“In light of a full and unconditional presidential pardon, the reissuance of the Hammond Ranches’ grazing permits is the final step in righting the egregious injustices the Hammonds faced. This is the culmination of years of effort on behalf of this industry to restore a family's livelihood. We speak on behalf of the livestock producers nationwide in saying thank you to Acting Interior Secretary David Bernhardt and his team who worked to correct the hardships this family faced.”

Those thoughts were echoed by Ethan Lane, Senior Executive Director of PLC and NCBA Federal Lands.

“The Hammonds have asked me to convey their appreciation to Acting Secretary Bernhardt and the Bureau of Land Management for reissuing their grazing permits. The United Farm Workers union has been ousted from the first Napa Valley vineyards it successfully unionized more than four decades ago, a move that could further erode the union?s influence in Wine Country.

The state Agricultural Labor Relations Board on Wednesday certified the results of an election removing the UFW from representing workers at Vista Vineyard Management in St. Helena.

Of the 60 workers who voted in the June 2008 election, 39 voted against the union, 18 voted to keep it and three votes were contested, said Sam Turner, the company?s president.

?I?m glad that the workers got to decide for themselves their representation,? Turner said.

Most workers who voted against the union resented paying the UFW 2 percent of their wages, Turner said.

But UFW organizer Casimiro Alvarez said the vote is another example of big wine companies turning to contract labor forces to undermine the union founded by Cesar Chavez in the 1960s.

?In the Napa and Sonoma areas, I?m very clear the grape industry is fighting against the union,? Alvarez said. ?They are putting a lot of money to destroy the union.?

The vote is the latest setback to the UFW?s efforts to hold on to gains it made unionizing farmworkers in Wine Country. The union was ousted from Sonoma-Cutrer in 2003 and from Saralee?s Vineyards in Windsor in 2007.

But the union has proven itself skilled at thwarting efforts to pry it loose from some vineyards. In 2004, it reversed a vote to evict it from E&J Gallo?s vineyard operations in Sonoma County. It has also blocked a similar 2007 vote by Gallo vineyard workers in Sonoma County, although an anti-union worker has appealed the vote.

And last year it reversed its 2006 ouster at Charles Krug Winery, winning the reinstatement of its 24 workers.
