Threats Against Covington Students Possibly Felonious, Prosecutor Says

People who threatened violence against the students of Covington Catholic High School may face up to five years in prison thanks to a Kentucky law that elevates threats against schools and students to felonies.

Commonly, violent threats are treated as misdemeanors in the state (pdf), where the private religious school is based.

But Kentucky law (pdf) has a special category of “terroristic threatening in the second degree” that pertains to threats of acts “likely to result in death or serious physical injury to any student group, teacher, volunteer worker, or employee of a public or private … school.”

The crime is deemed a Class D felony, which corresponds with a punishment ranging from one to five years in state prison, according to Kenton County Prosecutor Rob Sanders, who holds jurisdiction over Covington.

The claim of suicide was made by relatives to try and ensure their own safety. No one actually believes there was a suicide. Was it arranged by the mogul? You know the term suicide by cop? This was pretty similar. Show yourself and get yourself killed or the family goes and then they will come and find you anyway after. They launched their killing spree from a yacht moored in Vilanova Grand Marina. Guess who the yacht is registered to? The laws that the SEC have are merely so that these company's have to prove what they claim. Enforcing these laws has been a big issue over the years. Not so much with the filing of forms as those are typically filed and no drama occurs. It's when it gets into insider trading and the other activity that is expressly illegal according to those rules. A proposal to overthrow the constitutionally mandated system for electing the president and vice president of the United States—known as the Electoral College—without going through the effort of amending the U.S. Constitution has three-fifths of the support its backers say it needs to become a reality.

According to a group called National Popular Vote (NPV), the proposal “would guarantee the Presidency to the candidate who receives the most popular votes in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.” Currently, 48 states give all their electoral votes to the candidate who prevails in the popular vote in that state. Nebraska and Maine use a different formula, awarding some of their electors by congressional district.

According to a tally maintained by NPV, enabling legislation has been adopted in 11 states plus the District of Columbia, representing a total of 172 electoral votes. Those states are California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Massachusetts, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Washington.

The plan, NPV claims, would become effective when enacted by several more states with 98 more electoral votes.
