North Carolina County Passes Resolution Declaring That They Are Now a ‘Gun Sanctuary County’

 

Officials in Cherokee County, North Carolina, have passed a resolution declaring that they are now a “Gun Sanctuary County.”

 

The Cherokee County Board of Commissioners’ resolution is similar to a sanctuary city declaration — but asserts that they will not accept federal or state funds to be used to “infringe on the right by the people to keep and bear arms as described.”

 

In a Facebook post earlier this month, Cherokee County Commissioner C.B. McKinnon wrote that “any regulation of the right to keep and bear arms or affiliated firearm rights that violates the Second, Ninth, Tenth, or Fourteenth amendments to the US Constitution, that violates Article I, Sections 5, 16, and 30 of the North Carolina Constitution, or that violates numerous related US Supreme Court Decisions including those listed above shall be regarded by the People of, on, or in Cherokee County to be unconstitutional, a transgression of the Supreme Law of the Land and its spirit of individual sovereignty, and, therefore by necessity, unenforceable and invalid from the outset.”

 

The post also explained that the criminal misuse of firearms is “due to the fact that criminals do not obey laws” and is not a reason to abridge the unalienable rights of law abiding citizens.

 

“Therefore, the Cherokee County Government will not authorize or appropriate government funds, resources, employees, agencies, contractors, buildings, detention centers or offices for the purpose of enforcing or assisting in the enforcement of any element of such acts, laws, orders, mandates, rules or regulations, that infringe on the right by the people to keep and bear arms as described and defined in detail above,” McKinnon explained.

Hey guys… am I the only one who thinks there may a little more to Q's spelling errors than he lets on? Even, or perhaps especially, including those which he says to ignore. What if we make a list of all Q's typos and examine them collectively and find the missing letters or mispelled words spell out a hidden message??? The letter "i" seems to be of import: think C_A (missing i, not exactly a typo but nonetheless), several of his actual typos involved the letter i, and even his most recent, SRIKE, contains the letter. Britain is providing “engineering support” for UK-supplied aircraft operated by the Royal Saudi Air Force, responsible for killing innocent people in Yemen, a British government minister has revealed.

Shooter spent a full 6 minutes at the mosque. He was so relaxed and chill, he knew where the police stations were. He knew they were distracted at HS and Hospital. That's why he drove around the park to Linwood mosque, which is the long way, instead of through the park.

 

First shots 1:40pm. Suspect arrested 2:15pm, 36 min after call in. Police would have been to mosque for 1:47/1:48 and been coming from all directions to dean st if police statement was true.

 

I believe they had a 6 min response time to the hospital and the papanui highschool, just so they had an excuse to let the shooter drive a circle around town and almost escape.

NZ Police “Happened to Be in a Training Session” When Mosque Shooting Began

 

Police in New Zealand happened to be holding a drill in the city center when the shooting began, just miles from where the massacre unfolded.

 

It took police officers in New Zealand 36 minutes to catch the terrorist who murdered 50 people in two Christchurch mosques last week. Dramatic footage shows that just two officers—only one of whom had a gun—apprehend the suspect after his bloody rampage. We are now learning that this response time would have been longer, but police happened to be conducting a drill nearby practicing for a similar attack.

 

In what can be described as an extremely strange “coincidence,” Chris Cahill, a detective inspector who is president of a local labor union for police officers, explained that officers were involved in a drill near the city center when the shooting broke out.

 

According to the NY Times,

 

The police said a special armed tactical unit arrived at Al Noor Mosque four minutes after the first officers, or 10 minutes after the initial emergency call.

 

Mr. Cahill said it normally would have taken longer, with team members summoned to a police station to suit up. On Friday, though, they happened to be in a training session in the city center and wearing their gear, he said.

 

“Any police force in the world — to get to the scene in six minutes, a specialist team there in 10 — that would be a success,” Mr. Cahill said.

 

Police in New Zealand don’t typically carry firearms, much less dress in tactical gear, so officers holding a drill with all their tactical equipment and weapons at the ready was a helpful coincidence indeed.

 

For those who may be unaware, the significance of the drill is important due to the fact that most terror attacks in recent history have coincided with drills very similar to the actual terrorism that unfolds.

 

In November of 2015, during the tragic attacks on Paris, it was later reported that Paris-area emergency personnel and ambulance crews were taking part in a simulated emergency exercise on the very same day. The exact nature of the drill was a simulated mass shooting attack, according to Dr. Mathieu Raux, emergency room chief at the Pitié-Salpetrière hospital in Paris.

 

Also, during the 9/11 attacks on the U.S., North American Aerospace Defense Command’s (NORAD) was in the midst of a training exercise called Vigilant Guardian, which “coincidentally” simulated planes being hijacked by terrorists.

More than 15 journalists, several U.S. government officials and multiple lawmakers were shown or given the Steele dossier during the 2016 presidential campaign or shortly after.

Fusion GPS and Christopher Steele disseminated the dossier far and wide in an apparent attempt to insert the document’s salacious allegations into the media.

Newly unsealed court filings show how widespread this effort was.

 

Court documents released last week in a lawsuit involving the Steele dossier revealed new details about the campaign to disseminate the infamous anti-Trump report to the press and within the U.S. government.

 

Much was already known about Fusion GPS and dossier author Christopher Steele’s efforts to seed the dossier with reporters and government officials. Fusion GPS founder Glenn Simpson orchestrated several meetings between Steele and Washington, D.C.-based journalists prior to the 2016 election. It has also been widely reported that Steele and Simpson met with government officials in an attempt to ensure that Steele’s unverified findings landed on the government’s radar.

 

A deposition given by David Kramer, a longtime associate of former Sen. John McCain, shed light on even more contacts with reporters and government officials. Kramer’s Dec. 13, 2017, deposition was released on March 14 along with a batch of other documents from a dossier-related lawsuit against BuzzFeed News.

 

By giving the dossier to government officials, Fusion GPS and Steele were able to create news hooks for journalists to write stories airing the dossier’s unverified allegations.

 

That was the case with Yahoo! News, Mother Jones, CNN and BuzzFeed News, all of which published stories not about the underlying claims made in the dossier, but about the fact U.S. government officials were handling the document.

 

Here are all of the contacts that Steele, Simpson and Kramer had with government officials and the press.

Thirty-four years ago, Rupert Murdoch showed up in Hollywood with $250 million, buying a stake in the 20th Century Fox film studio — even though he had little interest in making movies.

The scrappy Australian newsman, then known for his clamorous tabloids, was viewed with suspicion. Skeptics assumed he was a corporate raider intent on stripping value from the studio. Instead, Murdoch rescued a threadbare operation from financial ruin and turned it into the centerpiece of a growing empire that has reshaped the entertainment industry.

Now, Murdoch is dismantling his life’s work: a kingdom worth more than $100 billion. On Tuesday, his largest company, 21st Century Fox, will be broken apart. Walt Disney Co. will absorb Fox’s legendary movie and television production studios, with their deep trove of titles that includes “Avatar,” “Deadpool,” “Family Guy” and “The Simpsons.” The Murdoch family will create a new entity, simply known as Fox, that will include Fox News Channel, the Fox broadcast network, national Fox Sports channels, TV stations and the 50-acre Fox studio lot in Century City.

The landmark sale seemed unthinkable to many. But the 88-year-old mogul was never enamored of the clubby movie business. He wanted the film studio to support his global push into television, where he has left a more indelible mark. Along the way, he has relished his influence and his image as an outsider, a rascal who took big swings and thumbed his nose at the establishment.

“Rupert has been the most influential person in Hollywood in the last 25 years,” Peter Chernin, Murdoch’s former deputy who now owns his own media company, said in an interview. “He has been the key driver of trends that now define the industry.”

On the Fox Studios lot, Rupert Murdoch is the godfather.

A throwback to an earlier era, he’s the only boss most employees can remember. Murdoch’s original company, News Corp., purchased the historic film studio in 1985, midway through the mogul’s long campaign to buy and launch properties that now span the globe and touch the lives of hundreds of millions of people.

Murdoch in 2013 divided his holdings into two separate companies: News Corp., the publishing unit that includes the New York Post and Wall Street Journal; and 21st Century Fox, the entertainment arm. The Murdoch Family Trust controls both through its ownership of 39% of the companies’ voting shares. Murdoch agreed to the corporate split to appease Wall Street, which agitated for him to sell his newspapers — something he refused to do.

So when word leaked, in late 2017, that Murdoch was planning to unload much of his Hollywood operation, many were stunned. Staff members cried as they struggled to process the news. The heaviness saturated Fox’s annual holiday party that December, which was held on the studio backlot known as New York Street.

Strings of lights stretched between the worn facades, lending a surreal feel to the night.

“It was really reminiscent of the Vito Corleone backstory that takes place in Little Italy,” said John Landgraf, chief executive of FX Networks, referring to the titular character in “The Godfather.”

“I remember just standing there thinking that this has been a place in which films have been made for a long time,” Landgraf said. “And even though Fox will still exist, this Fox isn’t going to exist in the same way.”

Murdoch was not available for comment. Bloomberg News estimates the mogul’s fortune (including family trust holdings) at $19.5 billion, putting him at No. 46 on Bloomberg’s billionaires list.

He is most associated with Fox News, the conservative leaning outlet, which he has helped run since Roger Ailes was forced out in 2016 amid a sexual harassment scandal. But Murdoch also is a towering presence at Fox Studios in Los Angeles.

John Candreva, executive director of Fox’s studio facilities, recalled that Murdoch used to walk four miles from his home, then in Beverly Hills, to the Pico Boulevard lot.

Poll: New York State Voters Overwhelmingly Oppose Illegals Getting Drivers Licenses

 

A majority of New York State voters, according to a newly released Siena College poll, overwhelmingly oppose illegal immigrants receiving driver’s licenses. Sixty-one percent of New York voters say they do not believe non-citizens should receive driver’s licenses. While 49 percent of Democrats support issuing driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants, 84 percent of Republicans and 71 percent of Independents oppose such a policy.

 

“Overwhelmingly, Republicans and Independents, upstaters and downstate suburbanites, oppose allowing undocumented immigrants to get driver’s licenses. Democrats and New York City voters are closely divided on the issue,” Siena Research’s Steven Greenberg said. “White voters strongly oppose; black and Latino voters support it by small margins.” New York’s WGRZ TV conducted their own poll last year when New York State Democrat lawmakers pushed for licenses for illegal immigrants and their viewers overwhelmingly opposed it.

 

Siena’s numbers were released one month after immigrant advocate groups did another push for driver’s licenses for illegal immigrants now that Democrats have the majority of both chambers in the New York State legislature. In 2017, a bill that would have allowed licenses to illegal immigrants was filed in the lower chamber by Democratic Assemblyman Francisco Moya, but the legislation died in the state Senate, which was controlled by the Republicans at the time.

 

New York State Comptroller Scott Stringer is an advocate for the measure. “For many of us, a driver’s license is nothing more than a piece of plastic tucked in between our credit cards, but for undocumented immigrants it means better job opportunities, a safe way to get your child to school, and to the hospital in an emergency – all without fear of deportation during a routine traffic stop,” Stringer said at a rally with Fiscal Policy Institute (FPI) officials in Manhattan last month, according to The New York Post. Stringer and FPI pointed to reports that showed the state would rack up extra money totaling $9.6 million through additional driver’s license fees.

 

The new Siena poll, however, shows a majority of New York State voters don’t like the leftward direction the New York State is going in, either. Just 36 percent say that the Empire State is not moving too far to the political left, while 51 percent says the state is moving too politically leftward. “While Democrats disagree, a strong majority of independents and an overwhelming majority of Republicans say that Democratic control of the governor’s mansion and both houses of the legislature are moving the state too far to the left,” Greenberg said. “Two-thirds of voters — including a majority of Democrats — say that Democratic control of the state makes it harder for businesses to be successful.” This Siena College Poll was conducted between March 10-14 by telephone calls conducted in English to 700 New York State registered voters. It has an overall margin of error of +4.2 percentage points.

In liberal-leaning Hollywood, there are plenty of detractors who disagree with Murdoch’s politics and resent Fox News’ influence in American politics.

Last summer, Steve Levitan, co-creator of the hit ABC show “Modern Family” (a Fox production), wrote in a Twitter message that he was “disgusted” to be part of a corporate family with Fox News.

“I do not remotely share Rupert’s politics, but he was an excellent boss of a creative operation because creativity involves risk, and Rupert understood risk,” said Tom Rothman, a former Fox movie chief who now is chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment’s Motion Picture Group. “And I admire him for that.”

Rothman and other Fox veterans credit Murdoch for encouraging them to take risks. And, they say, his conservative politics didn’t influence programming decisions — unlike at his publications and Fox News.

“Rupert was never a micromanaging boss,” said Chernin, who worked with Murdoch from 1989 to 2009.

His rebellious spirit infused the company’s DNA.

“He was fun, he was wild, and he really wanted to do bold things,” Chernin said. “If you presented him with a plan, Rupert would say, ‘Great, let’s do it.’”

His appreciation for storytelling and controversy was honed as a youth and during his early career when he was a newspaper editor, several people said.

“Fox has always had a pugnacious attitude,” Landgraf said. “And Rupert is not someone who operates out of fear. He really believes in the value of making bets. We are not a box company.”

Matt Groening, creator of “The Simpsons,” said he’s grateful for Murdoch’s support for his show, the longest-running scripted series in prime time. Other networks wouldn’t have touched such an unorthodox cartoon, he said. The mogul even voiced the animated Rupert Murdoch character, introducing himself in one episode as “the billionaire tyrant.”

“He was a good sport. He liked the show, so that was a help,” Groening said. (Disney will own “The Simpsons,” but the show will continue to air on Fox.)

Murdoch shrugged off problems that might have rattled others. When the budget for James Cameron’s epic “Titanic” was ballooning, Murdoch told Chernin: “Don’t let it overwhelm you. Keep your head down and keep going.”

He had strong opinions, and he made them known. At the 2002 Super Bowl in New Orleans, Murdoch was frustrated that Fox network programmers hadn’t ordered a TV show that his daughter in London, Elisabeth, had recommended. “What’s going on with that show?” Murdoch demanded. He ordered his lieutenants to buy the rights and told them not to change the format. It became Fox’s biggest hit, “American Idol.”

Murdoch didn’t hide his disdain for the film business.

“Murdoch was always railing against Hollywood in our weekly meetings with all the heads of the company,” said Bill Mechanic, who ran the Fox movie studio in the mid-1990s. “He’d attack me or the movie business. He said, ‘You guys never take any chances.’ That was crazy, considering the movies I was making.”

Bob Greenblatt, who is now chairman of WarnerMedia Entertainment, worked at Fox in the early 1990s when he was a young TV executive.

“He would come in and talk about what shows he liked, or what shows he didn’t like,” Greenblatt said. One particular show, “Party of Five,” about five siblings trying to make it after their parents were killed by a drunk driver, didn’t escape Murdoch’s critique.

“He would be like, ‘Let’s get rid of it; the ratings are terrible,’” Greenblatt recalled. “But everyone else was so fervent about keeping the show. Rupert never stood in the way of decisions like that. He let us do our jobs.”

Murdoch’s career began unexpectedly in 1952 upon the death of his father, a respected Australian newspaper editor. Sir Keith Murdoch controlled two newspapers, but one was sold — over Rupert’s objections — to satisfy tax obligations. (Rupert’s mother, Dame Elisabeth Murdoch, was 103 when she died in 2012.)

Murdoch, then 22, returned from Oxford University (where he kept a bust of Lenin in his room to cultivate a rebel image) to run the Adelaide News, earning the nickname “boy publisher.” He would thunder around town in a bulky American car with a Great Dane named Webster.

Soon, he was on a buying spree of newspapers around Australia as well as TV stations. In 1968, Murdoch returned to Britain and bought his first London tabloid, News of the World, and then a second, the Sun. In the ’70s, he had crossed over to America, buying magazines and papers, including the New York Post, Chicago Sun-Times and the Village Voice. A 1977 Time magazine cover portrayed Murdoch as a gorilla stomping across the New York skyline, under the headline: “Extra!!! Aussie Press Lord Terrifies Gotham.”

He used his media outlets to amass enormous political power and was instrumental in breaking the print unions in London in the mid-1980s. Later, he helped launch a satellite TV service, now known as Sky, to challenge the venerable BBC.

He collected friends and enemies in the British Parliament. When his tabloids got caught in a cellphone hacking scandal nearly a decade ago, a committee of Parliament called Murdoch “unfit” to run a news organization.

He would later become an unofficial advisor to President Trump, a devoted Fox News viewer.

Murdoch was the first to build a truly international media conglomerate.

“He was the first person who really understood the power of combining content creation and distribution,” Chernin said. Fox was a major investor in Sky until last fall (when Comcast Corp. won a hard-fought bidding war for the service). His company controlled DirecTV for two years in the early aughts and built the Star India television service into a juggernaut.

Explaining his Hollywood strategy in the 1990 book “Outfoxed: Marvin Davis, Barry Diller, Rupert Murdoch, Joan Rivers, and the Inside Story of America’s Fourth Network” by Alex Ben Block, Murdoch said: “I went [into] entertainment not to get into entertainment. It was part of a broad strategy to get into the media industry — the heart of the media industry.”

For Murdoch, “​​​​​buying the [Fox] studio wasn’t about rubbing elbows with Hollywood stars. Fox, for him, was always a business deal,” Block said in an interview. “He recognized that compelling content was key to gaining economic and political power.”

In September 1985, Murdoch’s News Corp. bought Denver oilman Marvin Davis’ 50% stake in the studio for $325 million, gaining full control.

Because he was a foreigner, Murdoch wasn’t allowed to own television stations. That obstacle was expeditiously removed, also in September 1985, when he became a U.S. citizen in a federal courthouse in Manhattan with 185 other immigrants.

His company quickly snapped up an independent TV station group and scurried to launch the fourth network, Fox Broadcasting Co.

“When the Fox network first went on the air, a lot of people didn't even get the station. People would put tin foil on their antenna, and move it around to try to get a picture,” said Ed O’Neill, who starred as Al Bundy in “Married … With Children,” one of Fox’s original hits. “When I’d go back to visit my family [in Ohio], no one knew I had a television show. They saw me in a couple beer commercials — that’s what made me famous.”

Fox didn’t become a force in television until it lured an NFL football package away from CBS in 1993 in an eye-popping $1.6 billion, four-year deal. Then came the edgy FX cable channel, the launch of Fox News and the purchase of the Los Angeles Dodgers baseball team, which Murdoch used to launch regional sports networks before selling the team in 2004.

The company bought the social network Myspace in 2005 for $580 million, which famously crashed. Murdoch unloaded it six years later for just $35 million. In 2007, Murdoch claimed the Wall Street Journal through the $5-billion acquisition of Dow Jones & Co. Within two years, Murdoch’s company took a write-down of nearly $3 billion on that investment.

Fox also teamed with NBC to launch the streaming service Hulu, which Disney will soon control.

“To say he’s a driven man is an understatement,” Rothman, the former studio chief, said. “The thing he would say to me the morning after a big hit was, ‘What’s next?’”

With the future in mind, Murdoch concluded nearly two years ago that his company would be too small to effectively compete with rising tech giants such as Netflix, Amazon and Apple.

The Murdoch family will become among Disney’s largest shareholders, giving it an interest in yet another major entertainment company.

The asset sale to Disney also helps alleviate a thorny issue of succession. Murdoch’s two sons no longer will have to share management of the enterprise. Instead, his oldest son, Lachlan, will oversee the slimmed-down Fox as its chairman and chief executive. And his younger son, James, plans to strike out on his own after two decades of working for his father.

Minnesota Democrats Reportedly Want Ilhan Omar Out — She Blames Trump

 

Democratic Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar blamed President Donald Trump on Sunday after reports that members of the Minnesota Democratic Party are considering removing her from congressional office for her repeated anti-Semitic statements.

 

“I’m sorry Mr. [Donald Trump],” Omar tweeted in response to the reports. “I am for real, you can’t #MuslimBan us from Congress!”

 

Minnesota Democrats are reportedly dismayed that Omar has made a string of bigoted comments about Jews, which have received massive condemnation from both sides of the aisle. Consequently, members of the state party are looking for someone to contest her nomination in 2020 and run a different candidate in her place. Rather than blaming the Minnesota Democrats, Omar focused the backlash on Trump’s 2017 executive order, which has been referred to as a Muslim ban. The executive order suspended U.S. entry of those whose counties do not meet adjudication standards under federal immigration law for 90 days and included exceptions on a case-by-case basis.

 

Omar, along with fellow Democratic Rep. Rashida Tlaib of Michigan, became America’s first Muslim congresswomen when sworn into office in January. Both congresswomen’s time in office has been embroiled in allegations of anti-Semitism. Omar has defended the anti-Semitic statements, such as ones invoking Allah to expose Israel’s “evil doings,” and she is on record stating that Israel is not a democracy. She also gave an interview to a host that referred to Israel as the “Jewish ISIS” and mocked how Americans speak about al-Qaeda and Hezbollah. Both Omar and Tlaib waited until after they won their congressional elections to reveal their support for the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement, which seeks to punish Israel by economically depriving the country for its alleged mistreatment of Palestinians living in the Gaza Strip and West Bank. Boeing Tumbles On Grand Jury Subpoena Probing 737 MAX Approval

 

In the latest blow to both Boeing and the Federal Aviation Administration, the WSJ reported overnight that Federal prosecutors and Department of Transportation officials are scrutinizing the development of Boeing 737 MAX jetliners and in particular its anti-stall (MCAS) system, inquiries described as "unusual" and which come amid probes of regulators' safety approvals of the new plane.

 

The Seattle Times separately reported that Boeing’s safety analysis of a new flight control system on 737 MAX jets had several crucial flaws.

 

According to the WSJ, a "grand jury in Washington, D.C., issued a broad subpoena dated March 11 - a day after the Ethiopian Airlines crash a week ago - to at least one person involved in the 737 MAX’s development, seeking related documents, including correspondence, emails and other messages." The subpoena, with a prosecutor from the Justice Department’s criminal division listed as a contact, sought documents to be handed over later this month.

 

It wasn't immediately clear if the Justice Department’s probe is related to scrutiny of the FAA by the DOT inspector general’s office, reported earlier Sunday by The Wall Street Journal and that focuses on a safety system that has been implicated in the Oct. 29 Lion Air crash that killed 189 people, according to a government official briefed on its status. Aviation authorities are looking into whether the anti-stall system may have played a role in last week’s Ethiopian Airlines crash, which killed all 157 people on board. The WSJ sources add that the inspector general’s inquiry focuses on ensuring relevant documents and computer files are retained.

 

The Justice Department probe involves a prosecutor in the fraud section of the department’s criminal division, a unit that has brought cases against well-known manufacturers over safety issues, including Takata Corp.

 

The news comes at a sensitive time for both the FAA, which was among the last regulators to ground the 737 Max following a broad global response (led by China) and for Boeing, whose stock has tumbled in the aftermath of the latest crash, and as the WSJ notes, "it is highly unusual for federal prosecutors to investigate details of regulatory approval of commercial aircraft designs, or to use a criminal probe to delve into dealings between the FAA and the largest aircraft manufacturer the agency oversees."

 

Probes of airliner programs or alleged lapses in federal safety oversight typically are handled as civil cases, often by the DOT inspector general. The inspector general, however, does have authority to make criminal referrals to federal prosecutors and has its own special agents.

 

Ironically, over the years, U.S. aviation companies and airline officials have been sharply critical of foreign governments, including France, South Korea and others, for conducting criminal probes of some plane makers, their executives and in some cases, even individual pilots, after high-profile or fatal crashes. The FAA’s current enforcement policy stresses enhanced cooperation with domestic airlines and manufacturers—featuring voluntary sharing of important safety data—instead of seeking fines or imposing other punishment.

A Columbus Police Officer is facing federal charges of depriving victims of their Constitutional rights "by kidnapping the victims under the guise of an arrest and forcing them to engage in sex for their freedom." Andrew Mitchell, 55, was arrested at Columbus Division of Police headquarters Monday morning.

 

The charges were charged in federal court Monday afternoon. He faces three counts of deprivation of rights under color of law, two counts witness tampering, one count witness tampering, and one count of making false statements. "The conduct alleged in this indictment is shocking and revolting," FBI Special Agent Todd Wickerham said.

Mitchell is accused of kidnapping three different victims under the guise of an arrest, then taking them to another location and forcing them to engage in sexual acts in order to be released. According to the indictment, he did it to one victim at least twice. Federal investigators say they are still investigating, and they are asking anyone who may have been a victim or have any information about Officer Mitchell or possibly any other officers to come forward.

If found guilty, Mitchell could get life in prison for the charges of Deprivation of Rights Under Color of Law, which is a charge that means he was using his position as a law enforcement officer to commit crimes and deny a victim constitutional rights. "That is a nightmarish breach of trust and that is a federal crime," U.S. Attorney Ben Glassman said in announcing the charges.

Mitchell is also accused of multiple counts of witness tampering, and making false statements during the investigation.

Mitchell, a 30-year veteran, is also under investigation for the shooting death of Donna Castleberry (also known as Donna Dalton) on August 23, 2018 during an alleged prostitution sting. The two were in Mitchell's vehicle at the time, and authorities say Castleberry stabbed him in the hand before Mitchell opened fire. Castleberry was not one of the victims outlined in the indictment.

“Everybody’s biggest fear is what’s it going to look like if meth hits us like fentanyl did,” said Jon DeLena of DEA’s New England office said to the Wall Street Journal. Access to fentanyl, a dangerously potent synthetic opioid, has led to mass overdoses across the country. Many fear that the increased trafficking of meth could result in similar death rates. DEA officials are blaming the situation on Mexican drug cartels, which are more aggressively pushing the drug into the U.S. interior as they attempt to rival South American-made cocaine. The synthetic stimulant is now becoming more prevalent in many regions — such as the U.S. Northeast — where meth was more-or-less scarce.

 

Meth production in the U.S. has generally declined in the past 10 years, but this trend has been offset with an increase in supply from Mexico. “They’re flooding it through tunnels, they’re flooding it through ports of entry, they’re flooding it between ports of entry,” stated DEA Special Agent Doug Coleman.

 

News of meth’s rise follows President Donald Trump’s ongoing battle with Congress to secure the U.S.-Mexico border with a massive wall. Congress allocated just over $1.37 billion to finance 55 miles of border wall in Texas following gridlock between Democratic and Republican lawmakers. Trump accepted that funding in February, but he then declared a national crisis. The president has since requested an additional $8.6. billion for wall construction. Trump vetoed a Congressional resolution that disapproved of his emergency declaration — the first veto of his presidency. The General Federation of Palestinian Labour Unions reported last year that as a result of the siege, unemployment in the enclave almost doubled to 50 per cent, rising from 27.2 per cent before 2007.

 

A report released by the UN last month raised concerns that the Strip is “de-developing” faster than anticipated, such that the 2020 deadline by which it was said that Gaza would be “unliveable” may have already arrived.

 

The Gaza Strip has also been hit by Israel in three major offensives; 2008, 2012 and 2014 wars. These turned the coastal enclave into a pile of rubble.

“It reported that New Jersey real estate developer Charles Kushner had pledged $2.5 million to Harvard University not long before his son Jared was admitted to the prestigious Ivy League school, which at the time accepted about one of every nine applicants. A former official at the Frisch School in Paramus, N.J., where Kushner attended, told Golden that there was no way that Kushner was going to Harvard on merits alone.

 

“His GPA [grade point average] did not warrant it, his SAT scores did not warrant it. We thought, for sure, there was no way this was going to happen. Then, lo and behold, Jared was accepted. It was a little bit disappointing because there were at the time other kids we thought should really get in on the merits, and they did not.’’
