Brazil’s Bolsonaro Auctions 12 Airports to Private Operators

The far-right president pushes forward the most ambitious plan to privatize public infrastructures in Brazilian history.

Brazil’s President Jair Bolsonaro will auction Friday contracts to operate 12 airports, a measure which is expected to raise about US$921 million in [so-called] private investments.

The auction will be carried out at the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange and concession contracts will be valid for 30 years, according to the National Civil Aviation Agency (Anac).

At least 10 companies submitted on Feb. 12 auction proposals for the 12 airports, public infrastructures which account for 9.5 percent of the domestic market and manage almost 20 million passengers per year.

According to the local newspaper Terra, among the interested companies are the Brazilian Patria, Socicam and Construcap; the French Vinci and Aeroports de Paris; the Swiss Zurich AG; the Spanish Aena; and the German AviAlliance and Fraport.

Some of these foreign companies already have a presence in Brazilian airports. For instance, Zurich manages the Florianopolis and Confins contracts; Vinci runs the terminal of Salvador, and Fraport operates in Porto Alegre and Fortaleza airports.

In order to perform the action, the Brazilian Federal government distributed the 12 airport terminals in three privatization packages.

The Northeast group, which is the most attractive due to its intense flow of tourists, comprises airports in Recife (Pernambuco), Maceio (Alagoas), Aracaju (Sergipe), Juazeiro do Norte (Ceara), Joao Pessoa and Campina Grande (Paraiba).

The Midwest group includes airports in Cuiaba, Sinop, Rondonopolis and Alta Floresta, all of which are in the State of Mato Grosso and are closely related to agribusiness activities.

Finally, the Southeast group oversees two terminals: Vitoria (Espirito Santo) and Macae (Rio de Janeiro).

The Brazilian Federal government will also action 22 more terminals in this fiscal quarter, as reported by Terra.

This new privatization deal will include terminals in Foz do Iguacu, Navegantes, Londrina, Joinville, Pelotas, Uruguaiana, Bage, Manaus, Porto Velho, Rio Branco, Boa Vista, Cruzeiro do Sul, Tabatinga, Tefe, Goiania, Sao Luis, Teresina, Palmas, Petrolina and Imperatriz.

The airport privatization package may even increase in the future as Bolsonaro’s administration continues to talk with Brazilian local authorities to convince them to enter into its concession contracts plan.

Under Michael Temer administration (2016-2018), more than 50 infrastructure privatization projects were planned, although they were not finalized. These proposals were inherited by Bolsonaro, who assumed power on Jan. 1, 2019 and vowed to privatize “everything possible” so as to downsize the Brazilian State.

President Trump’s 2020 campaign urged voters to eye Democrats suspiciously after special counsel Robert Mueller found no evidence of collusion with Russia in the 2016 presidential election, accusing them of orchestrating a “frantic, chaotic, conspiracy-laden roller coaster for two years.”

Campaign manager Brad Parscale said Democrats were caught in a “web of lies and deceit,” before turning his gaze to a series of ongoing probes by House Democrats.

“Their dirty tricks have not ended. Even today Democrats have picked up the disgraceful mantle of investigating, obstructing and destroying the will of the American people at any cost. They failed once and they will fail again,” he said.

The campaign followed up Mr. Parscale’s statement by email-blasting a 40-second video of Democrats claiming there was collusion, followed each time by a Family Feud-style buzzer and the message “Wrong” in big red letters.

The statement offered a preview of how Team Trump will weaponize Mr. Mueller’s findings after the probe into possible collusion loomed over Mr. Trump’s first two years in office.

Mr. Parscale said the president, all the while, has been focused on national security and boosting the economy.

“The American people should take notice: the Democrats have lied to you, while President Trump has been hard at work building a booming economy and making you safer,” he said.

If the old engines are replaced, it would be equivalent to the KC-135 R-model which still flies and does an incredible service to the military.

For the cost of (1) KC-46 tanker – the warfighter could have many re-engined KC-135 E-models.

The KC-135 aircraft may be old, but its bones are strong - with lots of life still left.

The warfighter need tankers, and the KC-135 E-model is a viable option.

We might as well have an appointee you know rather than one you don’t. Plus, everyone I spoke with respected the guy. He’s totally nonpolitical and was never one to grandstand or overcharge a case to advance his career.

Mueller got the top FBI job and served with distinction under both Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama. Bringing him in may be the most intelligent move President Trump’s team has made, even if Trump himself barely got a heads up before the public found out.

Democrats had no choice but to applaud, because many of them had voted for Mueller as FBI director and praised his work.

I don’t know how it will all turn out for Trump, but whatever the outcome, Democrats will have to accept it.

I just want to let you all know that you mean the world to me. It has been a difficult year and a half.

Day to day life has been like holding a secret that nobody believes or cares about. Even those that love you, trust you, and respect your opinion, have largely dismissed your disclosures as noise at best.

It has been an incredibly lonely place for most of us in our day-to-day lives. Finding a fellow Q-follower in the real world has been a rare glimmer of light, often followed by ultimate disappointment at the depth of their understanding.

Many of us have sacrificed our jobs, our emotional and physical health, and our relationships in our efforts to understand and support this movement.

Those of us who have followed this movement intently have lived an emotional roller coaster - digging, speculating, drawing conclusions, making predictions to those we love - only to find ourselves embarrassed, angry, & uncertain. But the true patriots among us never truly lost faith, and we have realized that, despite our misunderstandings and disappointments, we needed to re-review proofs, reassess assumptions, and realize how far Q had already taken us.

Regular self-assessment of our own susceptibility toward cognitive dissonance has been a healthy (though painful) exercise. Having gone through these experiences, we have strengthened our resolve and (more importantly) reinforced our understanding of what our leaders are suffering.

You anons (and fuck most of you salty, jaded bastards) have been a massive emotional support system. Without this board we would all be lost. We’d be disenfranchised assholes who understand the world better than anyone else. Instead, on this board we are a community of assholes that understand the world better than anyone else, but we also understand each other.

You anons have made me a better thinker. You anons have made me a better patriot. You anons have made me a better researcher (sauce?). And you anons have made me a better person.

I hope you all realize that we have made it through the calm (for us in the know, the calm has been the excruciating, rocky storm). The Mueller/Barr report today marks the beginning of the storm. The beautiful, wonderful, fully anticipated storm.

Mueller's Trump report may name Aussies

An eclectic group of characters, including a handful of Australians, are likely to feature in Special Counsel Robert Mueller's much-anticipated report into Donald Trump and Russia's effort to influence the 2016 US presidential election.

The information was allegedly hacked by Russian intelligence operatives.

British-born former 2UE and Australian Associated Press reporter Rob Goldstone found himself in Mueller's sights when it was revealed he help set up the infamous 2016 Trump Tower meeting in New York between a group including the president's son Don Trump Jr and Russian attorney Natalia Veselnitskaya.

Goldstone wrote in an email to Trump Jr the "Crown Prosecutor of Russia" had "offered to provide the Trump Campaign with some official documents and information that would incriminate Hillary and her dealings with Russia and would be very useful to your father".

"If it's what you say, I love it," Trump Jr wrote back to Goldstone.

Mueller's findings, which took almost two years to complete, were not immediately released but US Attorney General William Barr said congressional leaders could be briefed on the report as soon as this weekend.

"I am reviewing this report and anticipate that I may be in a position to advise you of the Special Counsel's principal conclusions as soon as this weekend," Barr wrote in a letter on Friday to the House and Senate judiciary committees.
