A congressional source last week said, “I don’t see any way the investigation can be aboveboard if Mifsud isn’t a Russian agent.”

Horowitz said all four of the FISA warrant applications for Carter Page relied upon a core probable-cause argument based on the idea that the FBI was conducting a legitimate investigation into Russian election interference.

We also asked those FBI officials involved . . . whether the FBI received any other information, such as from members of the USIC, that the FBI relied upon to predicate Crossfire Hurricane. All of them told us that there was no such information. . . . We also asked [James] Comey and [Andrew] McCabe about then-CIA Director John Brennan’s statements. . . . Comey and McCabe both denied this, telling Horowitz they did not remember being told about Carter Page. With regard to Lynch’s recollection of a conversation, Comey said “he did not think it was possible for such conversation to have occurred in the spring of 2016 because the FBI did not receive the [tip from Alexander Downer] concerning Papadopoulos until late July.”

At the bottom of page 310, Horowitz describes an unusual communication to the FBI by a “former” confidential informant:

[A] former FBI CHS . . . contacted an FBI agent in an FBI field office in late July 2016 to report information from “a colleague who runs an investigative firm . . . hired by two entities (the Democratic National Committee [DNC] as well as another individual . . . [who was] not name[d]) to explore Donald Trump’s longstanding ties to Russian entities.” The former CHS also gave the FBI agent a list of “individuals and entities who have surfaced in [the investigative firm’s] examination,” which the former CHS described as “mostly public source material.”

3 GOP Senators Want Interviews With Obama Officials Over Hunter Biden and Ukraine

Former Obama administration officials are being asked to give interviews to three top Republican Senators about whether they can shed light on allegations surrounding former Vice President Joe Biden’s son Hunter Biden and Burisma Holdings, a Ukrainian gas company that employed him as a board member.

In a statement on Wednesday, Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Chairman Ron Johnson (R-Wis.), Senate Finance Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), and Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) said they are seeking officials who had worked in former President Barack Obama’s State Department and in Biden’s office.

“These interview requests continue the chairmen’s oversight efforts … related to potential conflicts of interest and political influence by Ukrainian elements, including the natural gas firm Burisma, which employed Hunter Biden as a board member while his father was vice president and the public face of the Obama administration’s handling of Ukraine,” the statement from the three senators said.

On Dec. 6, the same Republican senators asked for records and interviews with Democratic National Committee consultant Alexandra Chalupa and former Ukrainian embassy official Andrii Telizhenko amid their inquiry into whether Ukraine interfered in the 2016 election.

Chalupa and Telizhenko were reportedly involved in Ukraine’s effort to sabotage the campaign of then-candidate Donald Trump in 2016, according to an extensive investigative report by Politico, which Grassley cited in July 2017.

Italian Bonds Tumble On Fears Another Government Collapse Is Imminent

For years, reformers have been pushing for changes to the Italian government structure that would, among other changes, reduce the number of seats held by lawmakers. Back in October, Giuseppe Conte's coalition government voted in favor of a plan to reduce the number of lower house members from 630 to 400, and the number of senators from 315 to 200.

Throughout modern political history, examples of legislative bodies voluntarily accepting reforms that would knowingly curtail the powers and privileges of its members are few and far between, and Italy is no exception. Not long after the vote, a group of mostly opposition members tried to crash the government and hold a new snap election to save their seats. I mean, what other choice did they have? They're politicians…do you really expect them to go out and get a real job?

Of course not.

So the group of lawmakers filed a petition and successfully challenged a reform that would have rendered them redundant, forcing the government to hold a referendum vote if it wants to follow through.

The referendum can be held between April 15 and June 15. But by insisting on the vote, Conte is raising the likelihood of a rebellion that could collapse his government, which is what the market's afraid of.

And so it is that Italy’s 10-year yield climbed 5bps to 1.39%, its highest level since August, on Thursday, widening the BTP-bund spread 3bps to 162bps.

Multiple Ohio middle school students were injured during an active shooter drill, according to the school’s principal.

New Richmond Middle School Principal Court Lilly wrote a letter to parents explaining that a few students fell to the ground and “sustained some bumps and bruises” during a drill Tuesday. Another student suffered a cut on her eyebrow.

Emergency personnel treated two students at the scene, WXIX-TV reported

The school participated in an ALICE drill, which stands for alert, lockdown, inform, counter and evacuate.

An alarm went off in the school’s cafeteria during the first lunch period and then Lilly entered, acting as a shooter, the letter said.

“I pose as the active shooter,” Lilly wrote. “I utilize air horns to simulate the noise level that would take place in a real event.”

Some students weren’t aware of the proper evacuation procedure which led to “a chaotic few moments,” he wrote.

Lilly said it’s “obvious” that the school needs to develop a more effective evacuation plan for the cafeteria.

Censorship: Instagram and Facebook Crack Down on Second Amendment Influencer Marketing

Cam Edwards of Bearing Arms reported that Facebook and Instagram have now banned influencers from promoting firearms, tobacco, and vaping products through “branded content” on these social media platforms.

This move could prove to be detrimental for firearms companies since it could disproportionately impact their marketing and advertising strategies. Additionally, influencer’s ability to make money on these platforms could also be dramatically affected.

CNBC reported:

Instagram announced Wednesday it would no longer allow “branded content” that promotes those goods on either platform…

This change closes a loophole in Facebook’s advertising policies. Even though Facebook’s ad policies have banned the advertising of vaping, tobacco and weapons, private users can post about them, and until now advertisers could theoretically put paid promotion behind those posts.

The company said it would begin enforcement of the new rule “in the coming weeks.” An Instagram spokesperson said this is the first time it’s implementing restrictions around the type of items that can be promoted for branded content.
