Obama Holdover Made the Call to Fly Coronavirus Patients Back to the US from Japan – Then Boasted About It

President Trump was reportedly furious after a State Department doctor ignored the President’s orders and allowed Americans, sick with the coronavirus, to return to the US from Japan.

Dr. William Walters, Executive Director and Managing Director for Operational Medicine for the Bureau of Medical Services at the U.S. Department of State, made the decision to bring the patients back to the US.

Dr. William Walters is a holdover from the Obama administration.

The good doctor made the call despite the president’s wishes and then went out and bragged about it.

Daniel Greenfield at Frontpage Magazine reported:

Dr. William Walters is still on duty. In 2017, Walters was boasting of prepping more Ebola evacuations even over President Trump’s opposition to the practice. And he was once again at the wheel now.

“The question was simply this: Are these evacuees?” Walters explained the decision to evacuate coronavirus patients to the United States. “And do we follow our protocol? And the answer to that was yes on both accounts.”

Consulting President Trump was not part of the protocol even on a major national security issue.

In a Congressional briefing, Walters boasted that, “the Department executed the largest non-military evacuation of U.S. citizens in its history. The safe and efficient evacuation of 1,174 people from Wuhan, China and people onboard the Diamond Princess cruise ship in Japan is a testament to the agility, proficiency, and dedication of our workforce to accomplishing our core mission – advancing the interests of the American people.”

And the triumph of the administrative state and its bureaucratic protocols over the President.

At a State Department briefing, Walters stated that, “The chief of mission, right, through the U.S. embassy, is ultimately the head of all executive branch activities.”

That is the problem. Right there.

Walters got his job in 2011. He’s a relic of the Obama era. That doesn’t mean that his politics are those of his former boss. But this is not about him. It’s about the reality that the White House doesn’t make many of the most vital decisions and doesn’t even know that they’re being made until it’s too late.

And what that means, beyond the politics of the moment, is that the people don’t decide.

You can vote one way or another and the real decisions that matter will still be made by the head of a directorate that is a subsection of a bureau that you never heard of, but that has a budget in the hundreds of millions, a small army as its disposal, and will follow whatever the protocol is.

This is how the country is really run. And that’s the problem.

Russia seeks to ‘create conditions so that NOBODY wants to fight us’ – Putin

Vladimir Putin has confided that US President Donald Trump privately lamented the "insane" US military budget. He also says Russia protects itself by making the costs of attacking the country too high for anyone to contemplate.

“The US has outstripped us” in terms of annual defense expenditure, the Russian president said in a new episode of news agency TASS's ‘20 Questions to Vladimir Putin’ series. But being the world’s largest military spender doesn’t really make Donald Trump particularly happy, Putin said.

“Donald told me that they have adopted an insane [military] budget for the next year, $738 billion.”

The US commander-in-chief, who likes to talk up his country's military hardware during overseas trips while bragging about the armed forces, tends to be more reserved in private, according to Putin. “He told me that the costs were too high, but he had to do it,” he said, describing his counterpart as “an advocate of disarmament, as he says.”

In terms of military spending, Russia trails behind China, Saudi Arabia, the UK, France, and Japan, with a defense budget worth $48 billion, although its lower cost base gives it more purchasing power than most western states. “Moreover, our annual expenditures are falling. In contrast, other countries’ spending has been rising,” Putin stated.

We are not going to fight against anyone. We are going to create conditions so that nobody wants to fight against us.

Putin also explained why Trump – who already dismantled the landmark Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty the US signed with the old Soviet Union – is reluctant to talk non-proliferation and arms control.

“That is another question, this is a question which relates to the understanding of security and how to ensure it… We can discuss this topic,” the Russian president replied without going into details.

Furious Canadians slammed the government for failing to cancel flights from Iran, presently the country with the worst outbreak outside China, and other policies that suggest a dangerously blithe response from the government, perhaps as a consequence of PM Trudeau's commitment to 'woke' policies (many have slammed travel bans as racist).

One critic even accused Ottawa of "flying in" the virus by refusing to cancel flights. Yesterday, Canadian public health officials confirmed four new cases of the virus, each diagnosed at hospitals in Greater Toronto. That brought Canada's total to 24.

"As a result of the co-ordinated efforts of our health care and public health system, all individuals who have tested positive have been quickly assessed and isolated," the province’s ministry of health said in a statement.

All of Canada's cases have been definitively tied to travelers. One patient, a man in his 50s who is a Toronto resident temporarily living in Vaughan, Ontario, where he is under self-isolation, is the brother of a Toronto man who had traveled to Iran recently, Global News reports.

Another man, this one in his 60s, was diagnosed at North York General Hospital after an emergency department visit with symptoms on Friday. He had also recently visited Iran.

German interior minister REFUSES TO SHAKE MERKEL’S HAND amid coronavirus scare

German Interior Minister Horst Seehofer declined a friendly handshake with his boss Chancellor Angela Merkel, as Germany scrambles to contain the spread of the deadly coronavirus.

A short video shows Merkel approaching Seehofer and extending her hand. The German minister then signals that he’s not interested – prompting laughter from bystanders. Merkel herself seemed to be amused by the anti-germ-spreading tactic, and reportedly told Seehofer afterwards that it was “the right thing to do.”

On Friday you gave yourself the option to ease and provided a bit of calm to the stock market. It won’t work. Don’t make the mistakes the BoJ and ECB have made in trying to paper over structural problems with liquidity. If you do, your actions will be deflationary and you will devalue your monetary tools. Your real structural problems are rising inequality and the number of ‘zombie’ companies.

The virus will have a major economic impact. Global growth may fall on par with the GFC. It will, with a lag of 6-9 months, justify you easing through the employment dimension of your mandate. It will not, however, be disinflationary. Getting Fed Funds down to 1.25% would put your monetary policy back to a slightly accommodative setting.

However, moving too early, in order to support confidence (let’s admit it, stocks), will put you in a currency war you cannot win. Other central banks, who are missing their inflation targets will follow swiftly, reducing the FX benefit of your easing. By moving to support “confidence” (stocks) and “transmission” (spreads) you will in fact be generating deflationary forces.

Your easing since the GFC has allowed zombie companies to continue their lumbering, groaning, slow-motion takeover of the economy. By no means are we saying you need to shoot them (hike), but equally don’t support them just to satisfy your urges for a roaring SPX. Instead society needs them to bow out gracefully (let PE take the risk). Equities will perform better in the long run if you let the zombies die.

By cutting rates on March 18th, you will be telling the market a) that, all else equal, the underlying value from this level is dubious, and b) that you are determined to support asset bubbles. You will be advocating leveraged longs of failing companies. Your rate cuts will reduce the neutral Fed Funds rate once again. You are choosing to dive into a liquidity trap, racing to 0% Fed Funds and a QE restart. Yield curve control (another market vol killer) should also be avoided. Please learn the lessons from your international counterparts. The water in the liquidity trap isn’t lovely, don’t dive in!

Reporters asked Senator Graham if he was going to investigate FISA abuses which involve Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein.

“Will you investigate surveillance abuse allegations, including those involving the Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein?” a reporter asked Lindsey Graham.

“Yeah, I told him I want to give a deep dive on the FISA warrant problem as I see…” Graham said.

“Will you bring Rosenstein to testify under oath before he leaves?” a reporter asked.

Graham responded, “I’m going to do a deep dive on the FISA issue and I think he’ll be a part of it.”

Of course Rosenstein should be questioned under oath–he signed the June 2017 FISA renewal app and until this day, 20 pages of those FISA docs are redacted!

We recognized a year ago that Lindsey Graham was full of contradictions. On one hand Graham said Mueller is doing a great job and will be fair to President Trump, and on the other hand he acknowledges there was FISA abuse.

‘Morally & politically bankrupt’: New report slams ‘broken’ UK voting system, says millions being ignored

Nearly half the UK electorate – 14.5 million people – in the 2019 general election were denied proper representation due to a “morally and politically bankrupt” voting system, according to new research.

The survey by the Electoral Reform Society (ERS), an organization that campaigns to end the ‘first-past-the-post’ system, claims that 45 percent of the UK electorate cast a vote for a non-elected parliamentary candidate.

Dr Jess Garland, the director of research and policy at the ERS, has called for a reform of the “broken” voting system and urged all political parties to get behind a move to proportional representation (PR) to help bring about “real democracy” in Westminster.

It is no wonder trust in politics is at rock bottom; the vast majority of people’s votes are being systematically ignored by a voting system that is morally and politically bankrupt.

The organization’s audit, titled ‘Voters Left Voiceless’, in combination with data from the pollsters YouGov revealed that 32 percent of voters “held their nose” and voted tactically, rather than selecting their preferred party or candidate.

Garland said that the research “exposes the scale of disenfranchisement” that currently occurs under a “one-party-takes-all voting” system, insisting PR would help ensure seats in parliament reflect how people actually want to vote.

The organization highlighted Jeremy Corbyn’s Labour Party, with the concentration of their support in certain areas meaning that it took on average 50,835 votes to return a Labour MP — compared to 38,264 for a Conservative MP.

The ERS also insisted that smaller parties such as the Greens, Lib Dems and Brexit Party were “penalized” by the current system at the last general election in December 2019, despite an increase in vote share on 2017’s snap poll.

CDC Accidentally Releases 'Diamond Princess' Evacuee Who Tested Positive For The Virus

This doesn't exactly inspire confidence in the federal government's virus response, and certainly doesn't bode well for American officials' ability to suppress the virus.

Early Monday, the CDC admitted that it had mistakenly released an infected coronavirus patient from the San Antonio Texas Center for Infectious Disease the day prior after the patient twice tested negative for the virus. At that time the patient had no symptoms and technically met the criteria for release, and so was allowed to leave, ABC 7 reports.

However, the patient was soon returned to isolation after a subsequent lab test came back positive for the novel coronavirus, the virus that causes COVID-19. So the CDC decided to bring them back to quarantine "out of an abundance of caution."

According to CNN, the patient was one of the evacuees from Wuhan, who was evacuated to Texas's Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio , been kept in quarantine on military bases in California, Texas and Nebraska.

So, why was the patient released if they still had a lab pending? The agency didn't offer any kind of explanation.

"The fact that the CDC allowed the public to be exposed to a patient with a positive COVID-19 reading is unacceptable," said San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg said.

The CDC said the individual, who is currently being retested, had some "limited contact" with healthy individuals on the outside. School Cop Tasked with ‘Protecting’ Young Children, Arrested for Child Sex Trafficking

Poplar Bluff, MO — There are so many cases each week of police officers getting caught with child porn or sexually assaulting children that TFTP cannot report on all of them. However, the following case out of Missouri is so disconcerting that we felt it was necessary to make a point. Child predators often seek out positions of authority which allow them to carry out their sick desires while garnering the trust of those around them. Poplar Bluff police officer Brandon Michael Hopper was one of these predators.

Last week, the 39-year-old was charged with the unclassified felony of first-degree sexual trafficking of a child, the Class B felony of first-degree promoting child pornography and two Class D felonies of possession of child pornography by Butler County Prosecuting Attorney Kacey Proctor.

Hopper was a ten year veteran of the department who had requested and received the position as a School Resource Officer (SRO) at Poplar Bluff Middle School last year. The school district welcomed this child predator to “protect” young children with open arms, because, after all, his badge made him a pillar of the community.

Investigators reportedly received a cyber tip that Hopper was engaged in the transfer of child pornography and looked into the claims. What they found was utterly sickening.

After his arrest, Poplar Bluff Police Department stated:

“The information indicated one of our officers was possibly sharing child pornography. As this involves one of our own employees, we are respectfully requesting the DDCC (Drug and Crime Control Division) handle the investigation. The Poplar Bluff Police Department is cooperating fully with the on-going investigation regarding a now-former employee of its force.”

The investigation led to the arrest of Amber Longhibler, 28, who was also arrested on Wednesday. She was charged with sexual trafficking of a child, promoting child pornography and four counts of possession of child pornography, according to KFVS.

In an interview which took place inside Longhibler’s home, investigators said she admitted to taking pictures of a nude 11-year-old girl.

Longhibler stated she took the photos at Hopper’s request, and sent them to him over the internet, according to KFVS.

When investigators searched both cell phones, they reported they found this conversation between the two:

Hopper asked Longhilber to: “send me some [child’s name] pics to trade, obviously no face pics.”

Longhilber replied: “I’ll send you what I have.”

Longhilber then sent two close up photos of a prepubescent female child’s privates.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan vowed Monday to keep the doors open for migrants heading for Europe, promising he will not hinder anyone heading for the border with Greece.

He warned Europe that it will have prepare to shoulder its part of the migrant “burden.”

“After we opened the doors, there were multiple calls saying ‘close the doors’,” he said. “I told them ‘it’s done. It’s finished. The doors are now open. Now, you will have to take your share of the burden’.”

Some 13,000 migrants, including Afghans, Syrians and Iraqis, massed at Turkey’s border with Greece over the weekend after Erdogan announced Turkey would no longer prevent them from heading towards Europe’s hearland.

Greek Government Labels Alleged Killing of Migrant on Border ‘Fake News’

The Greek government has claimed that a widely spread video claiming to show a migrant fatally wounded along the countries border is “fake news.”

Government spokesman Stelios Petsas commented on the footage, which was released by BBC World Service journalist Mughira Al Sharif on Monday, stating on social media platform Twitter that the alleged killing of a Syrian refugee was Turkish propaganda.

“Video showing fatality on Greek-Turkish border is fake news. We call upon everyone to use caution when reporting news that furthers Turkish propaganda,” Petsas said.

The footage claims that the man in the video is a Syrian asylum seeker named Ahmed Abu Emad who is originally from the city of Aleppo. Mr Al Sharif went on to state that the incident occurred on Monday morning at 9:07 am and the Syrian died after being shot in the throat. The true facts of the case have yet to emerge.

The footage comes as tensions remain high along the land border between Turkey and Greece after Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced that the country would be opening the gates to any and all asylum seekers and migrants who wished to travel to Europe on Thursday.

Since Thursday, there has been a huge surge of asylum seekers heading toward Greece, with Turkish Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu claiming on Sunday that 100,577 migrants had left Turkey to head for Europe.

President Erdogan confirmed initial reports that the border was open for asylum seekers on Saturday saying, “We will not close the gates to refugees,” and added, “The European Union has to keep its promises.”

A video released by the Greek coastguard on Monday also claimed to show a migrant boat being escorted to Greece by a Turkish patrol craft. If proven true, the footage could add credence to claims that migrants travelling from the Turkish interior to the border with Germany are being assisted by the Turkish state railways and long-distance buses.

In response to the allegations, the Greek government released a statement saying, “Turkey, instead of curbing migrant and refugee smuggling networks, has become a smuggler itself.”

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot is on the defensive this weekend after Immigrations and Customs Enforcement announced that a convicted felon, now facing charges of sexually assaulting a toddler in a downtown Chicago McDonalds bathroom, was supposed to have been turned over to ICE and deported — and had been deported before.

“ICE said in a news release Thursday [Christopher] Puente was placed into Chicago police custody in June of 2019 after he was arrested for theft,” according to a Chicago ABC affiliate. “According to ICE, Chicago police were expected to hold Puente until he could be taken into their custody, as Puente was expected to be deported.”

Because Chicago is a so-called “Sanctuary City” and has lenient bail policies, Puente was released back into the community.

Puente is now charged with raping a 3-year-old girl in the bathroom of Chicago’s landmark “Rock & Roll McDonalds,” a major tourist destination just north of the city’s downtown, and just west of its “Magnificent Mile” shopping district. Puente allegedly lured the girl away from her father, who was attending to the girl’s brother inside a bathroom stall. Puente, police say, dragged the girl into his stall, locked the door, molested and assaulted her. The girl’s father, alerted by her screams, rescued her, but could not catch Puente, CPD says, who bolted from the bathroom and out the door of the McDonalds, into the street.

“Puente was being investigated for trespassing when police recognized him from the surveillance pictures because he was wearing the same clothes he has on following Monday’s attack,” ABC Chicago said in a seprate story.

Chicago’s branch of ICE says “Puente had been deported to Mexico in 2014 over a prior burglary conviction, but tried to get back in five days later, claiming to be a citizen, and later skipped out on a hearing before an immigration judge. He was ordered deported again in 2017 in absentia,” according to CBS Chicago.

Following some initial questions and answers focused on the alignment of NATO’s military strategy with the 2018 National Defense Strategy of the US, which codified what Wolters called “the malign influence on behalf of Russia” toward European security, Senator Fischer asked about the growing recognition on the part of NATO of the important role of US nuclear deterrence in keeping the peace. “We all understand that our deterrent, the TRIAD, is the bedrock of the security of this country,” Fischer noted. “Can you tell us about what you are hearing…from our NATO partners about this deterrent?”

Wolters responded by linking the deterrence provided to Europe by the US nuclear TRIAD with the peace enjoyed on the European continent over the past seven decades. Fischer asked if the US nuclear umbrella was “vital in the freedom of NATO members”; Wolters agreed. Remarkably, Wolters linked the role of nuclear deterrence with the NATO missions in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere outside the European continent. NATO’s mission, he said, was to “proliferate deterrence to the max extent practical to achieve greater peace.”

In 617, Li Shimin urged his father Li Yuan, the king of Tang, to raise troops in Taiyuan. Within five years, they managed to squash all of the rebellions around the empire. Li Shimin assumed the throne in 626 and took the name Emperor Taizong of Tang.

Tang Taizong is recognized as one of the greatest emperors in Chinese history. He was a military genius capable of commanding a battlefield from thousands of miles away, as well as an excellent poet, writer, and calligraphist.

Emperor Taizong cherished his people and governed accordingly. He founded a literary academy, utilizing it to recruit talented men for his administration. MOSCOW, March 2. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin has submitted an amendment on recognizing marriage as a union between a man and a woman to Russia’s State Duma (lower house of parliament), Vice Speaker Pyotr Tolstoy told reporters on Monday.

"President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin submitted his proposals to the State Duma on the last day when Constitutional amendments can be submitted and on the first day of Great Lent. They are set forth on 24 pages. For me, the most important is the proposal to enshrine the concept of marriage as a union of a man and a woman in the Constitution, and I am happy that this amendment has been initiated by the head of state," Tolstoy said.

Earlier at a meeting with the working group on amendments to Russia’s Constitution Putin supported the idea to legally enshrine the concept of marriage as a union of a man and a woman. He noted that the idea to uphold traditional family values, including family composition, was correct, but pointed to the need to choose the right wording.

On January 23, Russia’s State Duma (lower house) unanimously voted to approve the bill in the first reading on the constitutional amendments submitted by Russian President Vladimir Putin. The document, in particular, stipulates expanding the powers of the legislature and the Constitutional Court, a ban on high-ranking officials holding residence permits in other countries, limiting the number of presidential terms, placing the supremacy of Russia’s Constitution over international agreements and strengthening the state’s social obligations. The presidential bill also provides for a nationwide public vote on the law on amendments to Russia’s Constitution.

The second reading of the bill is expected to be held in the State Duma on March 10, and the nationwide public vote - on April 22. Putin has stressed more than once that the amendments to Russia’s Constitution would come into force only if they were approved by citizens.
