This practice was known as the Kentler experiment — named after Helmut Kentler, an academic who argued that pedophilia could have “positive consequences” on children. The unruly and “feeble-minded” children would benefit from adult sexual attention, according to Kentler.

Despite the absolutely horrid implications of putting children in the care of pedophiles, in 1969, Kentler managed to persuade West Berlin’s ruling Senate that troubled youths would be glad to be put into situations in which they would be sexually abused.

The children would be “head over heels in love” with their new father figures, Kentler claimed.

According to the Sun:

This arranged for boys to move in with three known West Berlin pedophiles so they could then “learn to live proper, unremarkable lives”.

Later he explained he believed the “three men would do so much to help ‘their’ boys because they had a sexual relationship with them”.

It is not clear whether the West Berlin’s Senate voted on the experiment or agreed to it behind closed doors.

For decades, this experiment was secretly carried out and very little was known about it until 2015. When the details started to emerge, according to the Irish Times, it prompted Berlin’s state authorities to commission a youth researcher to review the files and write a report. “The results are sobering,” said Dr Teresa Nentwig of the University of Göttingen who led the research.

“Men who had been convicted of sexual contact with minors were appointed by the Berlin leadership as guardians. Children and young people, who lived on the street before that, had to “pay” for a warm bed, good food and clean clothes, engaging in sexual relationships with their caregivers,” Nentwig said.

Two of the victims are now in line to receive compensation from the Berlin Senate, according to Der Tagesspiegel.

“There is targeted work to ensure that there is a solution that meets the interests of those affected,” said Iris Brennberger, spokeswoman for the education administration. How the compensation will look in detail and who exactly pays it is still open.

One of the victim’s lawyers is reportedly pressing for a lump sum of €100,000 ($113,071) plus a monthly pension of €2,500 ($2,826). Tragically, however, no amount of money will ever be enough to compensate the damage done from deliberately handing vulnerable children over to child rapists.

According to the report:

The legal proceedings refer to one boy called Marco, who had been taken into care in 1989 after fleeing his violent dad. Aged six, he was placed with his foster father, Fritz H, who began going into his room for a “cuddle” which heralded years of abuse. In an interview with Der Spiegel, Marco said for ten years he was repeatedly beaten and raped by Fritz H, until he grew up and fought back.

Another of his victims, known as Sven, was abandoned by his parents at the age of seven and contracted hepatitis B on the streets of Berlin. Authorities in 1990 then gave him to a pedophile and he suffered repeated sexual assaults which were allegedly videoed. Boys in the care of Fritz, who has since died, were kept isolated from the outside world.

Despite the practice reportedly running through 2003, Berlin officials say they have no idea as to who in the agency agreed to run such a monstrous experiment. Despite launching the investigation several years ago, there have been almost no details officially released.

When Kentler died in 2008, he referred to his experiment as a “success” while at the same time admitting he knew he was breaking the law.

“It was a crime to put these people into this kind of care,” Berlin’s youth-affairs minister, Sandra Scheeres said. “It is simply unimaginable that something like this happened with state oversight.”

On the video of the hair dryer breathing to stop the Covid-19, I have a sinus infection that wouldn't go away and I can't take systemic antibiotics. Neti pot wasn't working. I tried the hot air breathing for 5 minutes last night, because why not.

Concord Management and Consulting LLC and Concord Catering were among three companies and 13 individuals charged in February 2018 by Mueller. Their alleged criminal effort included social media postings and campaigns aimed at dividing American public opinion and sowing discord in the electorate, officials said, although no impact on voters was ever demonstrated.

Of the 13 Russians and three Russian companies charged by Mueller in the social media disinformation effort, Concord was the sole defendant to enter an appearance in Washington’s federal court and contest and the allegations. Mueller's 37-page indictment said the actions detailed by prosecutors dated back to 2014. (Mueller later brought separate charges in the summer of 2018 against other entities related to a hack of Democrats' emails.)

President Trump noted that no Russian collusion with his campaign was ever proven, and Republicans and even left-of-center commenators argued that Russian disinformation was mostly irrelevant, given that social media and other platforms are already rife with inaccuracies.

I work in a large metro county local gov Public Health department. The County Manager seems desperate, managers seem in way over their heads, employees seem skeptical but following orders.

Yesterday they made everyone working for the county watch a video about not spreading coronavirus that said the coronavirus causes the common cold. Later in the day I asked a division manager about this and he got mad and said there are lots of variants of the coronavirus (which is true) and that the numbers coming out of china and Italy show this is much more dangerous than the regular version. I asked why they would send out a video saying it was basically the common cold and he said 'when was that video made? the situation is changing by the hour.' He went on to say they think between 200K and 2M will die from this, with 200K being if we stop the spread with all these drastic measures of shutting everything down. Today, the county shut down every public facing window, but told everyone to report to work as every process by which the public is served is going to be rework for the future way of doing business (after years of stopping every effort to move services online).

Point is, the narrative is coming apart at the seams, they cant even agree on the narrative, and the people who have been able to use anger and fear to control people, knowing their version of the truth will be enforced by a consensus shoved down everyone's throats by the MSM, are finding themselves on standing on shifting sands. Sadly, I suspect their efforts to catch up on 30 years of work to modernize their processes and ways of interacting with the public in a couple of days will fail spectacularly. But hey, its government; when they fail, they just get more money. Maybe in the end someone besides people who depend on the government to service their needs will pay attention who is elected and put someone in office who actually care about effective government instead of buying votes from those they can give the most 'free' stuff to.

I found a discussion about their formation on a rail forum.

Earlier this month, Watco took over operations from Norfolk Southern. Their new territory encompasses the former New York Central between Columbus, Ohio and Dickinson, WV and the former Virginian between Dickinson and Elmore, WV. This new operation is called the Kanawha River Railroad (KNWA)

Earlier this year, NS stopped running mixed freights on the route between Dickinson and Columbus. As a result of this, manifest traffic was routed the long way from Dickinson south towards Elmore and then west from Elmore to Williamson where traffic is able to run north to Columbus. While it is neat to see mixed freights run between Dickinson and Elmore as it had been years since that type of traffic ran over the line but I can also imagine that customers along the line were not enthusiastic about a longer shipping time.

From what I understand, the current goal is the restore traffic between Columbus and Dickinson. Until then Watco will continue moving manifest traffic to and from the Kanawha Valley south from Dickinson to Elmore for interchange with NS.

In this video, we see a southbound KNWA manifest on the former Virginian pulled by a trio of EMD SD45s that were rebuilt at some point to SD40-2 specs. I believe these were former Southern Pacific locomotives?

Experimental Drug Promises to Kill the Flu Virus in a Day

Even if drug lives up to claim, it likely won’t be available in U.S. until next year at earliest~~Feb. 10, 2018

As Americans suffer through the worst influenza outbreak in almost a decade, a Japanese drugmaker says it has developed a pill that can kill the virus within a day. But even if the experimental drug lives up to the claim, it likely won’t be available in the U.S. until next year at the earliest.

A late-stage trial on Japanese and American flu patients found that for the people who took the Shionogi 4507 0.75% & Co. compound, the median time taken to wipe out the virus was 24 hours. That is much quicker than any other flu drug on the market, including Roche AG RHHBY -7.36% ’s Tamiflu, which the trial showed took three times longer to achieve the same result. Quickly killing the virus could reduce its contagious effects, Shionogi said.

Also, Shionogi’s experimental drug requires only a single dose, while patients need to take two doses of Tamiflu a day, for five days.

Both Shionogi’s compound and Tamiflu take roughly the same amount of time to entirely contain flu symptoms, but Shionogi says its compound provides immediate relief faster.

Scientists at the Japanese company leveraged their work on a blockbuster anti-HIV drug to create the compound, which works differently from existing flu medicines.

Switzerland’s Roche has acquired the international license to distribute Shionogi’s experimental drug.#### (different than other drugs that target after the hijacking cell to replicate itself)

Shionogi scientists began researching a novel flu drug more than a decade ago, shelving almost 2,500 compounds in the process. Then, the 140-year-old Osaka company, which has created blockbuster drugs used to treat HIV and high cholesterol, had a breakthrough.

J&J’s drug division, Janssen, last month began late-stage trials involving one anti-flu compound named pimodivir, which blocks a different enzyme that allows the flu virus to multiply inside the human body, said Brian Woodfall, head of Janssen’s infectious disease development.

Results from an earlier trial demonstrated that pimodivir “significantly decreased viral load over seven days,” a company spokeswoman said. Pimodivir worked better in combination with Tamiflu. J&J will take several years to enroll patients in the trial, the spokeswoman said.

Separately, Janssen is researching a biologic injectable, which AstraZeneca and Merck-backed Visterra Inc. are also developing. These injections act like antidotes, attaching themselves to foreign invaders, such as viruses, and then disabling them, while leaving healthy cells alone.

AstraZeneca’s biologics unit said it is evaluating preliminary results from a mid-stage trial in patients. Future plans depend on the findings. Cambridge, Mass.-based Visterra said it began enrolling hospitalized flu patients in December for a mid-stage trial.

Shionogi scientists knew from their research that an anti-HIV drug the company had developed with a joint venture of Pfizer Inc. and GlaxoSmithKline Co. worked by blocking a metallic enzyme that HIV uses as a weapon to hijack human cells. They found the flu virus was also exploiting a metallic enzyme.

“So we said, ‘why don’t we build on our HIV knowledge to find a way to treat the flu?’ And we did,” said Takeki Uehara, who led the compound’s development.

Laurie Weir, 40, said she filmed the video March 9 around 11:30 p.m. at the subway station entrance at Joralemon and Court Streets in Brooklyn.

"It was garbage night so lots of bags out lining Joralemon St. I saw two rats, and this one was carrying something big in his mouth so I grabbed my phone and starting filming him on his pursuit down the stairs," Weir wrote in an email to USA TODAY.

"He deserves it," one onlooker says in the video posted Friday as the rat appears to make its way down the stairs.

Another onlooker asks what the rat is carrying, and the first responds that it's a McDonald's Egg McMuffin.

Weir said she and her friend, Rachel Noonan, 41 are the ones who can be heard in the video as they were coming home from a late dinner. She said she nor the video were tied to any promotion for McDonald's.

Responses to the video were positive as people praised the rat for being a "hard workin mom making sure she bring home a treat for her kids on this Friday morning. Bless."

Others praised the rat amid the new coronavirus outbreak.
