Illinois state senate president Don Harmon (D.) over the weekend sent a letter to the state's congressional delegation asking for $10 billion for the state's chronically underfunded public pension system. Mumford, President of the Center for Research on Population and Security. This is the first time that it has been made available to the public.

 

Because of his position and the length of his tenure, Professor Siegel is considered among the world's foremost authorities on the development of World Health Organization policy. In this interview, he reveals the influence of the Vatican in shaping WHO policy, particularly in blocking adoption of the concept that overpopulation is a grave public-health threat – a concept which, in WHO's early years, enjoyed a broad consensus among member countries.

 

Without this separation of population dynamics from WHO public-health policy, the Vatican would have found it much more difficult to subsequently manipulate governments on such issues as family planning and abortion. National leaders would have been able to refer to the international consensus, as demonstrated by WHO policy. WHO, they could have insisted, has determined that family planning and abortion – like clean water, good nutrition, and immunizations – are necessary to protect public health.

 

Professor Siegel decided to speak out on the subject. As he was involved in the WHO at an early stage, his personal experience provides ample evidence that the Vatican influenced WHO policy development from the outset, during the early period of the Interim Commission in 1946. In its 63-year history, this international health body has had a deplorable record in family planning. Its commitment has been minuscule, and even today family planning accounts for only a tiny fraction of its budget.

 

Professor Siegel joined the World Health Organization in 1946, when it was still in its formative stages – under the umbrella of the United Nations, created just the year before. Because of his earlier work in North America and the Middle East, he was asked, in effect, to be one of WHO's "founding fathers". So he came on board on the senior staff of the Interim Commission. Dr. Brock Chisholm of Canada was the Executive Director of the Commission, which set up the permanent organization with headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. I've often wondered how substances that are considered 'safe' pass the tests when it's clear that halting the use of them is a way to start the healing.

 

the thing that is never mentioned is how fat keeps the old stuff in your body that you consumed long ago.

and people who are fat that have been storing bad fat (not good fat that doesn't have the bad ingredients from bad food) when those people get sick, they start to burn off that fat. Maybe the stuff that 'passes' as 'safe' , like High Fructose Corn Sugar, has a level of toxicity upon it being burned as fat!

The blog reported a sleep experiment with an innocent ending: the admission that the Uberman schedule was incompatible with the experimenter's schedule and goals. Yet the meme was picked up in a Kuro5hin article in 2002. Phrased in a simple and well-structured language, this time it was noticed. Again, the post ended with "Uberman's sleep schedule is a potentially dangerous way to increase your waking hours". That did not prevent a frenzy of new followers ready to gain years of waking time. The catchy theme of the concept is that, indeed, if you succeeded in sleeping 3 hours per day instead of the prescribed 8, starting at 20 years of age, you would gain over 11 years in an average Western lifespan. The idea is very attractive. No wonder then that as such it seems to be gaining momentum.

 

Polyphasic sleep

 

More and more frequently, Uberman's Sleep Schedule was being referred to as polyphasic sleep (the term popularized by research and book by an Italian chronobiologist Dr. Claudio Stampi).

 

Polyphasic sleep is known to sleep researchers as a variant of a sleep pattern that is set in opposition to monophasic sleep. In monophasic sleep, an individual or an animal sleeps in a single block during a single wake-sleep cycle of 24 hours. Polyphasic sleep is also set apart from a biphasic sleep in which there are two blocks of sleep in 24 hours, i.e. the night sleep and the typical Latin siesta - the "6th hour nap".

 

Polyphasic sleep is quite widespread in animal kingdom. In a recapitulation of phylogeny, human babies also sleep polyphasically, and gradually lose their nap slots until they become roughly biphasic around the age of one. Human adults, as much as all great apes, are largely biphasic. Although a majority of westerners do not nap on a regular basis their alertness shows a slump in alertness in the middle of the subjective day. This slump can consolidate in a short block of sleep in free-running conditions.

 

The theory behind the Uberman's Sleep Schedule is that with some effort, we can entrain our brain to sleep along the ancient polyphasic cycle and gain lots of waking time on the way, mostly by shedding the lesser important stages of sleep (e.g. shortening Stage 1 of NREM, which seems to be just a transition state to the more "useful" stages of slow wave sleep).

“We don’t want their gunboats surrounding our boats, and traveling around our boats and having a good time,” Trump told reporters Wednesday evening at the White House. “We’re not going to stand for it. … They’ll shoot them out of the water.”

 

The International Crisis Group, noting the tensions, urged both countries to create a deconfliction hotline to avoid a possible military confrontation.

 

“In the absence of a major diplomatic breakthrough, an indirect military communications channel could go some way toward ensuring, at least, that a single incident will not spark a wider conflagration,” it said in a report Thursday.

 

Iran in the past has rejected idea of a hotline.

 

Meanwhile, the Guard surprised analysts by sending a satellite into space on Wednesday from a previously unused launch pad and with a new system. While Iran stresses its program is peaceful, Western nations fear such a program will help Iran build intercontinental ballistic missiles.

 

State television on Thursday said Iran received signals from the satellite, without elaborating. While American officials haven't acknowledged the satellite reached orbit, open-source data from the U.S. military suggested the "Noor," or "Light" satellite now orbited the Earth.

 

Uzi Rubin, fellow at the Jerusalem Institute for Strategy and Security and the founder of Israel’s missile defense program, said the launch showed the Guard's “further gain in wresting for power and in building its own state within a state.”

 

“The very act of launching a military satellite in the midst of the coronavirus crisis that is affecting Iran too is a statement of self confidence and perseverance by the ayatollahs to the West but mainly to its own population,” Rubin said.

2 things help a lot:

scoll to almost the end of the bread, but don't be at the end of the bread.

In the week ending April 18, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 4,427,000, a decrease of 810,000 from the previous week's revised level. The previous week's level was revised down by 8,000 from 5,245,000 to 5,237,000. The 4-week moving average was 5,786,500, an increase of 280,000 from the previous week's revised average. The previous week's average was revised down by 2,000 from 5,508,500 to 5,506,500.

 

The dashed line on the graph is the current 4-week average. The four-week average of weekly unemployment claims increased to 5,786,500.

 

This was higher than the consensus forecast. The second graph shows seasonally adjust continued claims since 1967 (lags initial by one week while increasing sharply). At the worst of the Great Recession, continued claims peaked at 6.635 million, but then steadily declined.

 

Continued claims have already increased to a new record high of 15.976 million (SA) and will increase further over the next few weeks - and likely stay at that high level until the crisis abates.

The U.S. Army may seem like an unlikely patron of the humanities, but over the last century the service branch has accumulated an unrivaled treasure trove of captured and commissioned war art. The U.S. government’s attic counts a slew of collections like this across the country, under Park Service, Smithsonian, Archives, and Library of Congress stewardship. They’re generally overly bureaucratic affairs, tightly sealed to the public eye in an unfortunate compromise between preservation and security. The Army’s warehouse is a surprising exception to the norm, and they regularly allow journalists and researchers to come take a look. And when fundraising and construction of the Army Museum are complete in a few years the collection will be a national treasure accessible to anyone.
