Chief Justice John Roberts was hospitalized last month after injuring his head in a fall

 

Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. suffered a fall at a Maryland country club last month that required an overnight stay in the hospital, a Supreme Court spokeswoman confirmed Tuesday night.

 

The 65-year-old chief justice was taken by ambulance to a hospital after the June 21 incident at the Chevy Chase Club, which was serious enough to require sutures. He stayed at the hospital overnight for observation, and was released the next morning.

 

Roberts has twice experienced seizures, in 1993 and in 2007, but Supreme Court spokeswoman Kathleen Arberg said doctors ruled out that possibility in the latest incident. Doctors believe he was dehydrated, she said.

 

Roberts did not publicly disclose the matter, and the court’s confirmation came in response to an inquiry from The Washington Post, which received a tip.

 

The scene was apparently witnessed by some at the club, whose list of politically connected members includes another justice, Brett M. Kavanaugh. The person who told The Post about the incident said Roberts’s head was covered in blood

 

The statement from Arberg said: β€œThe Chief Justice was treated at a hospital on June 21 for an injury to his forehead sustained in a fall while walking for exercise near his home. The injury required sutures, and out of an abundance of caution, he stayed in the hospital overnight and was discharged the next morning. His doctors ruled out a seizure. They believe the fall was likely due to light-headedness caused by dehydration.”

 

Roberts suffered a seizure in July 2007 at his vacation home in Maine. He fell from a dock after experiencing what the court described as a β€œbenign idiopathic seizure.” That means there was no easily identifiable cause for the seizure, such as a tumor.

 

Arberg said in 2007 that Roberts quickly recovered from the incident, though he spent the night at the hospital for observation.

 

At that time, Arberg said that the chief justice, who has presided over the court since 2005, received minor scrapes from the fall but that a β€œthorough neurological evaluation … revealed no cause for concern.”

 

Newsweek reported in November 2005 that Roberts suffered the 1993 seizure while golfing. A friend said Roberts was not allowed to drive for several months after the seizure and took the bus to work. The magazine quoted a senior White House aide as describing the episode as an β€œisolated, idiosyncratic seizure.”

 

Senators said they had been told of the incident at the time of Roberts’s confirmation in 2005, and none felt it was serious enough for further investigation.

 

Roberts has not released detailed information about his health or whether he takes medication because of those incidents.

 

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, for instance, has been open about her many medical issues, which include several bouts with cancer. The 87-year-old was recently diagnosed with a gall bladder condition that required hospitalization. She participated in one of the court’s teleconference hearings in May from her hospital room.

 

Because of the coronavirus pandemic, the justices have not been seen in public since early March. They closed the Supreme Court to visitors and canceled scheduled oral arguments in March and April.

 

The court has gone into overtime to finish its work this term, and still has five more cases to decide. Some decisions will be released Wednesday, although that is likely not the court’s final day.

 

Roberts has been in the public eye more than usual, since he had a constitutional role to play in overseeing the Senate impeachment trial of President Trump.

 

The chief justice has played a dominant role this term, where he is now its pivotal member. He joined the court’s decision that said federal anti-discrimination law covers gay, bisexual and transgender workers, and that struck down a restrictive Louisiana abortion law.

 

He wrote the court’s decision that stopped the Trump administration’s plan to end the program that protects undocumented immigrants who were brought to this country as children. He recently authored the court’s decision that said the president has the unrestricted right to fire the director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

China Inks Military Deal With Iran Under Secretive 25-Year Plan

 

Last August, Iran’s Foreign Minister, Mohammad Zarif, paid a visit to his China counterpart, Wang Li, to present a roadmap on a comprehensive 25-year China-Iran strategic partnership that built upon a previous agreement signed in 2016. Many of the key specifics of the updated agreement were not released to the public at the time but were uncovered by OilPrice.com at the time. Last week, at a meeting in Gilan province, former Iran President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad alluded to some of the secret parts of this deal in public for the first time, stating that: β€œIt is not valid to enter into a secret agreement with foreign parties without considering the will of the Iranian nation and against the interests of the country and the nation, and the Iranian nation will not recognize it.” According to the same senior sources closely connected to Iran’s Petroleum Ministry who originally outlined the secret element of the 25-year deal, not only is the secret element of that deal going ahead but China has also added in a new military element, with enormous global security implications.

 

One of the secret elements of the deal signed last year is that China will invest US$280 billion in developing Iran’s oil, gas, and petrochemicals sectors. This amount will be front-loaded into the first five-year period of the new 25-year deal, and the understanding is that further amounts will be available in each subsequent five year period, provided that both parties agree. There will be another US$120 billion of investment, which again can be front-loaded into the first five-year period, for upgrading Iran’s transport and manufacturing infrastructure, and again subject to increase in each subsequent period should both parties agree. In exchange for this, to begin with, Chinese companies will be given the first option to bid on any new – or stalled or uncompleted – oil, gas, and petrochemicals projects in Iran. China will also be able to buy any and all oil, gas, and petchems products at a minimum guaranteed discount of 12 per cent to the six-month rolling mean average price of comparable benchmark products, plus another 6 to 8 per cent of that metric for risk-adjusted compensation. Additionally, China will be granted the right to delay payment for up to two years and, significantly, it will be able to pay in soft currencies that it has accrued from doing business in Africa and the Former Soviet Union states. β€œGiven the exchange rates involved in converting these soft currencies into hard currencies that Iran can obtain from its friendly Western banks, China is looking at another 8 to 12 per cent discount, which means a total discount of around 32 per cent for China on all oil gas, and petchems purchases,” one of the Iran sources underlined.

Americans Defund Democrats in Statehouse Elections as Democrats Seek to Defund Police

 

Americans significantly decreased contributions to Democrats running for state legislature seats in the second quarter as the Democrat Party has turned hard left, fundraising information announced this week shows.

 

The lackluster performance by Democrats at the state level could have broader national implications. First off, state-level political trends sometimes forecast later looming national trends—”from the State House to the White House,” the saying goes.

 

But more importantly, the state legislatures elected this year will handle redistricting next year heading into the 2022 cycleβ€”influencing the direction of and perhaps control of the U.S. House of Representatives for the next decade.

 

The drop-off in Democrat Legislative Campaign Committee (DLCC) fundraisingβ€”which has Democrats $20 million shy of their stated cycle-long goal of $50 million totalβ€”comes as their Republican counterparts nearly doubled the total raised by Democrats in the second quarter.

 

The DLCC and its affiliated organizations in the second quarter of 2020 pulled in just $5.8 million, the party committee responsible for electing Democrats to state House and state Senate chambers nationwide announced this week. That means the DLCC has pulled in around $30 million total this whole cycle, $20 million short of the committee’s stated $50 million cycle-long goal.

 

The DLCC’s second quarter fundraising was dwarfed by its Republican counterpart, the Republican State Leadership Committee (RSLC), which announced it and its affiliated organizations hauled in nearly double the amount of the Democrats at more than $10.5 million in the second quarter. The RSLC and its affiliated organizations have pulled in $35 million cycle-to-date, meaning that the Democrats were on par with the Republicans on this front until the second quarter of this year dried up, leaving the Democrats $5 million behind.

 

β€œPlacating the woke Left’s tirade against America may play well on Twitter and cable news, but it looks like anarchy is too tough a sell for liberal enablers like the DLCC to persuade donors to keep contributing to their radical mission,” Lenze Morris, the national press secretary for the RSLC, told Breitbart News. β€œDefunding the police, overreaching economic shutdowns, and shaming those who are proud of their country – it’s all a bridge too far for Americans, and state Democrats right now own every bit of this ludicrous agenda.”

Deutsche Bank agrees to pay $150MN fine over ties to Jeffrey Epstein

 

Deutsche Bank has said it will pay $150 million as part of a settlement with New York regulators, after being accused of violating anti-money laundering rules in its relations with the late disgraced tycoon Jeffrey Epstein.

 

The bank β€œfailed to properly monitor account activity conducted on behalf of the registered sex offender,” the New York State Department of Financial Services (DFS) said in a statement on Tuesday. It added that the financial institution failed to monitor the activity despite having β€œample information” about Epstein’s criminal record and the circumstances surrounding it.

 

Epstein was first convicted of procuring an underage girl for prostitution back in 2008, and US law enforcement has since identified dozens of girls, some as young as 14, whom he allegedly abused. Deutsche Bank worked with Epstein from 2013 onwards and closed his accounts only in 2018 when the financier’s crimes once again fell under the media spotlight.

 

The bank knew Epstein was a β€œhigh risk” client, but still failed to take due effort to monitor his activities, the DFS said, adding that the financial institution β€œprocessed hundreds of transactions totaling millions of dollars,” including those between Epstein and his co-conspirators, while ignoring numerous red flags.

 

β€œThroughout the relationship, very few problematic transactions were ever questioned, and even when they were, they were usually cleared without satisfactory explanation.”

 

In 2016, former Deutsche Bank employee Eric Ben Artzi argued that the bank was β€œstructurally designed by management to allow corrupt individuals to commit fraud.”

 

Now, however, the bank claims that taking on Epstein as a client β€œwas a critical mistake and should never have happened.” The bank also said it conducted internal investigations, which the DFS saw as β€œexemplary.” It has also reportedly invested more than $1 billion in β€œtraining, controls and operational processes” following the scandal.

 

The agreement marks the first enforcement action taken against a financial institution for dealings with Epstein, the DFS noted.

 

The billionaire was arrested once again in July 2019 on charges of sex trafficking of minors. He died in his cell a month later under suspicious circumstances, although his death was declared a suicide. Social media users are sharing a post which claims that BBC News published an article dated in the future, which states that Ghislaine Maxwell, who was recently arrested on suspicion of having assisted Jeffrey Epstein’s abuse of minors, has moved to intensive care for coronavirus. This claim is false. On the BBC News website there is no evidence of this article, which appears to be an edited version of an article about the UK Prime Minister.

The BBC confirmed to Reuters the article was a fake and said it had asked for it to be removed from platforms which were displaying it.

 

The claim has been shared hundreds of times on Facebook and Twitter (here , here , here , here) .

 

The image appears to show a BBC News article dated 11th July, with the headline β€œGhislaine Maxwell moved to intensive care as Coronavirus symptoms worsen”. Below the headline is a picture of Maxwell as well as the first line of the article, which reads β€œFormer socialite and Epstein associate Ghislaine Maxwell has been moved to intensive care in hospital after her coronavirus symptoms β€œworsened”.”

 

Ghislaine Maxwell was arrested on July 2 on U.S. charges of luring underage girls so that the financier Jeffrey Epstein could sexually abuse them (here ). In August 2019 Epstein was found dead in a New York jail cell, where he was being held on sex-trafficking charges (here).

 

No article with this headline or top line appears on BBC News (here).

 

The article appears to be a fake version of a previous piece published by the BBC in April about the UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson

So, the way blockchain works is anyone can create their own blockchain and launch a Token or Coin themselves, although Tokens usually refer to derivatives.

In other words, that's the only way anyone has ever made a new Token/Coin and the reason it works like that is because it's a decentralized technology.

While I'm not claiming any one Token/Coin already in existence could see actual "fiat" use, I think some sort of blockchain-meshed currency is inevitable and that the people sitting around scoffing at anyone that mentions it are doomed to inevitable disappointment.

I'm not sure there's another answer to the question I've posed and I've asked around in a lot of different places which are regularly occupied by a lot of very intelligent people, all of whom can never really give a reasonable answer beyond what we've already described.
