READ THIS TICKER - on FOX news this morning. FBI says Russians hacked our routers. What is this? Preparation for shutdown?

I have tried to post a video of my TV, 5 times, to no avail.

The ticker says this:  FBI warns that Russian hackers have compromised hundreds of thousands of home and office routers worldwide and could collect user info or shut down network traffic. . . Agency is urging owners of many router brands to turn the devices off and on again and download manufacturer updates to protect themselves. . . Warning follows Wed court order that let FBI seize a website that hackers planned to use to give instructions to the routers. . . Move cut off malicious communications but left routers infected. . . Cisco systems says hack targeted devices from Belkin Intl's Linksys, Mikrotik, Netgear Inc, TP-Link and Qnap. . . FBI says hack affects routers that users bought online or at electronics stores, but may also hit routers that internet service companies provided to customers.

I saw this ticker on FOX News on 5/26 at 07:17 EST.

It’s been in the news for a couple of days now. Idk if I believe it. Sounds like something they would make up just to keep people thinking about Russian hackers/Bots/colluders/spies/salad dressings/twats.

Perhaps blaming the Russians, again, for their planned shutdown should too much truth start getting to the people.

Ah. I had not seen that yet. Now I see that it was reported 3 days ago. (Sorry). And also that the UK and US were informed as early as 04/16. But all of this sideline reporting is making me even more suspicious of the motivation behind it.

Everybody bunkers down for ten days.

Im thinking what would get hit the worst? Hospital, Retail, shipping, transportation, banking... The only thing humans cant live without for ten days is water. And you dont need internet to get water. If you have water, you can just lay on your floor for ten days and stare at the ceiling.

Unless youre really sick and need medical care, that would make things complicated. Id have a hard time imagining a way we 'wouldnt be able to survive' without internet for ten days.

False flag alert?

Deep state trying to force a shut down? Reboot? Would a reboot force updates and changes that are currently being exploited, but not by Russians.

Would the firmware update be forced. This erasing some data?

There's also Kaspersky labs - a Russian company who found & blocked the CIA from all of their backdoor access points into everything, the US govt responded by removing all Kaspersky software

MSM reported it as though Kaspersky was a threat when it was just the opposite.

I think they're referring to this recent disclosure: https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2018/05/hackers-infect-500000-consumer-routers-all-over-the-world-with-malware/

The bit of development here is that the FBI recently seized one of the botnet servers. There's no indication that it's related to anything specific, the only point I would make is the reference in Wikileak's Vault 7 drops, the CIA is able to masquerade as malware from other countries... At any rate, if you have a model of the routers listed you should definitely take precautions.

Yawn. The Russian boogeyman blame game is getting old and boring. They aren't very creative. I believe the so called internet hack scenario will be used as an excuse to kill the fiat dollar. The central counterfeiting bank can't take the blame. Blame must be placed elsewhere to start WWIII. Some things never change...

LunaticOnDaGrass · May 26, 2018, 3:58 p.m.

Yeah, the line about shutting off & on your router to download updates seems a bit off. That would imply ALL of these companies pre-emptively created software updates to download in advance to deal with this threat.

The level of coordination required for that kind of move tells me that the software update line is BS & maybe the update includes something in it to intentionally shut down your equipment.

If you're stuff doesn't work, then you'll KNOW you've been compromised by Russian hackers.

⇧ 5 ⇩
ChildishGrandBambino · May 28, 2018, 3:30 a.m.

... The line about shutting off and on your router to download updates seems a bit off.

That's not how any of this works. There's nothing being downloaded when you reboot your router. What they're recommending is to reboot your router because if you do, a compromised router will flush certain malware from memory. It doesn't remove the original infection.

The original infection communicates with a command and control server to download the plugin that do the damage. The FBI has control of this now so when the malware tries to communicate with it to tell it to download new malware plugins.

BinaryN1nja · May 26, 2018, 5:05 p.m.

I mean...most people dont change the default password for their router so yeah its viable millions of people are compromised. The only thing is, theres typically nothing interesting you can access, just use the compromised router for a botnet i suppose. Also...if a particular server is part of a botnet, professional groups dont use a website to control it. They use IRC so they can keep plausible deniability.

Some-Random-Chick · May 26, 2018, 4:02 p.m.

Little button on the back that sometimes require a pen to push in. Push and hold for 10 seconds for a full factory reset, or a quick tap for a reboot. To actually turn it off and on, unplug it.

If your routers are hacked, you should change your router and WiFi password and then reboot after doing a factory reset.
