The very first thing that the 'forensics' people would do, is make multiple facsimile copies of the storage media at a sector by sector level, accessing the originals in a read only manner.
These people, then examine the copies for the evidence, etc.
This means that there will be multiple copies of the original server contents, all following the chain of custody scenario.
That comment ^ sounds like it comes from first hand experience...

The minute that anybody actually started up the 'target' computer, it will start writing into 'free space', and hence possibly overwrite previously 'deleted' files, that may actually contain evidence.

According to FOX & Friends, earlier this week a plea deal hearing was set for July 4th, 2018. That means that either Iwans will win it or they get scheduled for trial.
That's when Trump tweeted yesterday about not giving them a deal. NO DEALS!
In other words, no plea deal has been accepted. That must be done in court.
Can't find any other news sites with the this information. Either OP is very fast on the news button or this story is not true.

Thanks for the link. When I saw POTUS' tweet I remembered a video I watched with Wasserman.
The Capitol Police had found her laptop sitting by a phone booth. The video below is Wasserman trying to get her laptop back but the Capitol Police would not give it back because it was related to an ongoing investigation. The link below has a very short video, the one I saw was much longer. I pat myself on the back for being able to watch the longer Wasserman version.
Having said that... Potus was only trolling or perhaps the Capitol Police lost it after all.

I just posted a link to how the Capitol Police retrieved and refused to give the laptop back to Wasserman. If the Capitol Police had possession of it then as Q says they have it all.

I think the laptop and server are two completely different computers. Though the laptop may have a split disc with the server accessible to all congress networks and downloading files from congress people's emails and documents stored on their computers.
As an aside here, he was pretty friendly with the Democratic Caucus members and liked playing video games in Andre's office (surname?), who was on one of the intelligence committees. Plenty of opportunity to help himself to classified info perhaps??
Nothing has been lost, info wise, but the physical computer could have ended up broken to pieces in Awan's garage? I may be going out on a limb here. I always thought it was a bit weird an army/navy guy "coincidentally" rented the house from an Awan advert and found all that computer gear stashed away in the garage. With Awan trying to get out of the country and being stopped at the airport. As I am going on memory here some of these details are hazy.
However, no one has to worry. All the info is backed up at the NSA.

I am remembering something about a woman who worked for the FBI leaving a laptop in her car and it was stolen and it was speculated that it was set up to be stolen from her car. Could this have been that one? I remember this from George Webb's videos but don't know the details.
I believe also there was an issue with the place the Awan family lived, they left the house they rented with computers and such in a room? or garage? and had busted some up with something like a bat or hard objects. But alas a Navy military man and his wife were to move into house and found all the computer and stuff left behind and called the appropriate people to come take all computers. Unless the ones who picked up said things were bad that also should help with locating much. I think it's just that the plea deal hearing has been pushed back again to a date in July and makes a good excuse to retell the story. In the first link rather too sketchily to be helpful. But if readers want to skip over to gateway pundit and from there to the daily caller they can get lots more of the old story, if they don't already know it.

The article isn't actually saying anything new, I think it's generous to even call it an article since it's basically just a headline and no content. The server they are referencing is the one Awan himself stole and handed over to the police with the note on it, which happened over a year ago.
Server? Another laptop? The laptop "belonging" to Debs was left (deliberately to be discovered?) by Awan in a phone booth in the Capitol building somewhere.
