Intelligence chiefs have warned that online extremist rhetoric is 'very similar' to that which was going on in the buildup to the January 6 insurrection on the US Capitol, with increasing calls for violence linked to conspiracy theories about the 2020 presidential election.

Homeland Security Intelligence chief John Cohen told CNN that there has been an increase in comments online such as 'the system is broken,' 'take action into their own hands' and 'bring out the gallows.'

'It's very similar to the stuff we saw prior to January 6,' Cohen said, with many calls for violence to rectify what conspiracy theorists claim was a rigged 2020 election.

It came as a popular QAnon conspiracy that Donald Trump would be returned to power on August 13th and Joe Biden removed from office failed to materialize.

The date was also promoted by MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell, a pro-Trump businessman who has spread misinformation that the 2020 election was a fraud.

'The morning of August 13 it’ll be the talk of the world,' Lindell recently said on the conservative podcast WVW Broadcast Network.

QAnon supporters have previously claimed several other dates that Trump would be back in office, including Biden's inauguration day on January 20, and March 4.

Cohen said that the calls for violence online did not revolve around a specific date.

'Concern from a law enforcement perspective is at a certain point in time, all of the conspiracy theories that point to a change occurring through process are going to sort of wear out. And the question is going to be, are people going to try to resort to violence, in or in furtherance of, that false narrative?' Cohen said.

Cohen's comments came as the Department of Homeland Security issued a new National Terrorism Advisory System (NTAS) Bulletin warning the public about increasingly complex and volatile threats.

DHS is looking ahead at the 'current heightened threat' as the country comes upon the 20th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, attacks on America.Leading up to the 20th anniversary of the attacks on 9/11, DHS is aware of threats 'posed by domestic terrorists, individuals and groups engaged in grievance-based violence, and those inspired or motivated by foreign terrorists and other malign foreign influences.'

Online threats have also been 'also exacerbated by impacts of the ongoing global pandemic,' according to the DHS bulletin.

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas also spoke with CNN saying, 'We are seeing expressions of violent extremism, born of false ideologies, false narratives, ideologies of hate. And we are seeing the potential connectivity to violence, which is where we step in,' explaining that these threats led the department to renew the terrorism warning.

Friday's warning issued an alert of the 'heightened threat environment' until November 20.

Part Two

The NTAS bulletin warns foreign and domestic threats 'continue to introduce, amplify, and disseminate narratives online that promote violence, and have called for violence against elected officials, political representatives, government facilities, law enforcement, religious communities or commercial facilities, and perceived ideologically-opposed individuals.'

'There are also continued, non-specific calls for violence on multiple online platforms associated with DVE ideologies or conspiracy theories on perceived election fraud and alleged reinstatement.'

Like the January 6 attack on the US Capitol, these threats are being circulated, amplified and tracked online.

The bulletin warns: 'Ideologically motivated violent extremists fueled by personal grievances and extremist ideological beliefs continue to derive inspiration and obtain operational guidance through the consumption of information shared in certain online communities. This includes information regarding the use of improvised explosive devices and small arms.'

Following the attack on the US Capitol, many social media platforms announced crackdowns on the spread of baseless or false information, a decision sparked by the flood of false information regarding the election and the pandemic.

Trump himself has been personally banned from Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok, and Twitch

Amazon, Apple and Google removed Parler, the social media app described as 'Twitter without rules.'

Discord, an instant messaging site, banned a server called TheDonald.win with a representative explaining, 'While there is no evidence of the server being used to organize the Jan 6 riots, Discord decided to ban the entire server…due to its overt connection to an online forum used to incite violence and plan an armed insurrection in the United States.'

Other subgroups popped up in its place but Reddit banned the subreddit group r/DonaldTrump on January 8 stating that 'Reddit's sitewide policies prohibit content that promotes hate, or encourages, glorifies, incites, or calls for violence against groups of people or individuals.'

But with the never-ending breadth of the internet, new social media sites continue to arrive and the NTAS bulletin warns that, 'Violent extremists may use particular messaging platforms or techniques to obscure operational indicators that provide specific warning of a pending act of violence.'

Kansas Math Teacher Fined for Resigning Over Mask Mandate and Critical Race Theory Teachings

A Kansas math teacher has been fined after resigning over the school’s mask mandate and Critical Race Theory program.

Josiah Enyart, a 6th grade math teacher at Comanche Elementary School, was pushed to his breaking point on July 25, when the Shawnee Mission School District sent an email renewing a mask mandate for all students and unvaccinated teachers.

“That was my final straw,” Enyart told the Sentinel.

Enyart was a teacher in the district for 13 years and won the Jedel Excellence in Mathematics Education Award last year.

The school has now fined him $1,000 for resigning after a designated final day to do so in his teaching contract. He doesn’t plan to pay it, though.

“I will be bringing my stuff, but I don’t plan on bringing a check,” Enyart said.

The teacher is arguing that the mask mandate changed the terms of his employment, and he resigned a few days after the change was announced.

Enyart’s frustration with the district began several years ago, however.

“It’s all critical race theory stuff,” Enyart said. “That was kind of the start where I realized, they’re really trying to bring this in and make it something.”

The Sentinel reports that the district spent $400,000 implementing Deep Equity Critical Race Theory training for the teachers, which explicitly instructs educators to “reject and resist any parents who disagree with it.”

The teacher did not just quit the district, he also pulled his own children out of their schools.

“I’m not going to continue to have my kids bossed around by these people and have no power as a parent, no power as a teacher, and for my kids to have no say,” he said.

Denmark Abolishes All Corona Measures

Danish parliament recently decided in Copenhagen that all Corona measures should be ended from October 1. There will therefore no longer be a mask requirement and the test regime will be abolished. The Danes will then no longer have to provide evidence of whether they are vaccinated or unvaccinated, or whether they have tested positive or negative.

All Corona measures are being lifted in view of the increasing incidence figures in Denmark, reported RT Deutsch. Since the beginning of July this value has risen from 31 to 107,2 (as of August 8). At the same time, the upper limits of this Corona indicator has increased significantly.

Navy Sea Base Arrives In Nigeria For Anti-Piracy Push

By Tope Alake (Bloomberg) USS Hershel “Woody” Williams, the first ship permanently assigned to Africa, arrived in Nigeria’s commercial capital city of Lagos on Saturday as part of the U.S. government’s support to combat piracy in the Gulf of Guinea.

“Ship visits like this one clearly demonstrate the U.S.’s continued dedication to our partners in the Gulf of Guinea as they strive for the security of their resources, their economy, and their people,” Claire Pierangelo, U.S. Consul General in Lagos, told reporters Saturday.

West African loses about 800,000 tons of fish a year, worth almost $2 billion in gross revenue, to illegal activities by both foreign and domestic vessels, Pierangelo said. This removes vast seafood protein from the region.

Nigerian waters are at the center of the Gulf of Guinea, a vast expanse of the Atlantic Ocean stretching from Senegal to Angola that’s the most dangerous part of the world for sailors, accounting for almost all kidnappings at sea in recent years.

“We’re here to train and work with the Nigerian Navy on anti-piracy, tactics, techniques, and procedures,” Hershel “Woody” Williams Captain Chad Graham said.

The U.S. investments and donations to the Nigerian military are worth more than $559 million, part of which is the naval coast guard transfers renamed NNS Okpabana and NNS Thunder.

The Covid-19 outbreak and restrictions led to a surge in piracy levels, though that slowed this year and is expected to ease further as economies pick up, Graham said.

Getting the Band Back Together: U.K. and Canada Send Troops Back to Afghanistan

Afghanistan’s Khaama Press reported Friday that Canada has dispatched “an unknown number of Special Forces” troops to Afghanistan to evacuate staffers from the embassy in Kabul.

The United Kingdom said Thursday it will send 600 troops to help its own 4,000 nationals withdraw as the Taliban closes in on Kabul, while the United States hastily committed 3,000 troops to a similar effort.

A Canadian official not authorized to publicly discuss the special forces deployment told the Associated Press that special forces operators would be sent to protect the Kabul embassy, where staffers are currently shredding sensitive papers and preparing to evacuate.

Canada deployed about 40,000 troops to Afghanistan under the auspices of NATO but began withdrawing them in 2014.

“The highly-trained soldiers are expected to work alongside allies, such as the United States and the United Kingdom, which are sending thousands of troops to the Afghan capital to aid in the partial evacuation of their embassies as security throughout the war-torn country rapidly deteriorates,” a Canadian defense source told CBC News.

CBC’s source said there has been an “extensive discussion between the Canadian military and U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM)” about U.S. forces providing “logistical and transport assistance” for Canada’s evacuation effort.

The Canadian government in July announced a program to resettle Afghans who served in positions “integral” to the Armed Forces mission, such as interpreters and drivers, to help them escape from Taliban retribution. Closing the Kabul embassy suddenly would severely hinder that program.

Canadian officials on Friday refused to state if a shutdown of the Canadian embassy in Kabul is imminent.

The U.K. military watched in frustration as Lashkar Gah, capital of Helmand province and focus of the British war effort in Afghanistan for almost 20 years, fell to the Taliban on Friday. Almost all of the U.K.’s 457 casualties in Afghanistan were sustained in Helmand.

“The political will to see through enduring support to Afghanistan has not been there, and a lot of people are going to die because of that, and for me that is extremely humiliating,” former U.K. defense minister Johnny Mercer, who served in Afghanistan, told the BBC on Thursday.

Canada was comparably disheartened by the fall of Kandahar, where the Canadian combat deployment to Afghanistan was focused.

As with the United States, Afghanistan was Canada’s longest war; its mission began in 2001 and lasted until 2014. 165 Canadians died during the war, and over 2,000 were wounded. Kandahar fell to the Taliban without resistance on Friday, marking the symbolic restoration of the “Islamic Emirate.”

China 'Ready' To Recognize Taliban If Afghan Government Ousted

Late last month the world beheld the unusual footage of Taliban commanders being warmly received by China’s foreign minister Wang Yi in the Chinese city of Tianjin. That trip included the Islamic terror group's co-founder Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, in a rare visit widely seen as an attempt of the jihadists to gain "legitimacy" abroad.

It appears to have paid off, given that now at a moment the Taliban is scoring victory and victory on the ground they are eyeing the sought after price of Kabul. And now US News and World Report writes that "China is prepared to recognize the Taliban as the legitimate ruler of Afghanistan if it succeeds in toppling the Western-backed government in Kabul, U.S. News has learned, a prospect that undercuts the Biden administration's remaining source of leverage over the insurgent network as it continues its startling campaign to regain control."

Beijing is still said to be urging the Taliban to strike a ceasefire and peace deal with the government under Afghan president Ashraf Ghani. In the past days Kabul has signaled it's open to a "power sharing" agreement.

But the Taliban has little incentive given it's already taken over about two-thirds of the country with relative ease and while beholding retreating national forces.

"However, new Chinese military and intelligence assessments of the realities on the ground in Afghanistan have prompted leaders in the Chinese Communist Party to prepare to formalize their relationship with the insurgent network, according to multiple U.S. and foreign intelligence sources familiar with the Chinese assessments," the report says further.

Flashback: Joe Biden 'overruled' top military commanders on Afghanistan withdrawal, VP Harris played 'key role'

President Joe Biden reportedly "overruled" top United States military commanders when he authorized the full withdrawal of American forces from Afghanistan.

What did Biden do?

The Wall Street Journal reiterated Sunday that in ordering the full withdrawal of U.S. military forces from Afghanistan, Biden was ignoring the advice of top military commanders, who suggested retaining a nominal force in Afghanistan to help maintain security.

From the WSJ:

In contrast to the numerous Trump policies he reversed, he opted to carry out Mr. Trump's deal with the Taliban instead of trying to renegotiate it. In so doing, he overruled his top military commanders: Gen. Frank McKenzie, the commander of U.S. forces in the Middle East; Gen. Austin Scott Miller, who led NATO forces in Afghanistan; and Gen. Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Citing the risks of removing American forces to Afghan security and the U.S. Embassy, they recommended that the U.S. keep 2,500 troops in Afghanistan while stepping up diplomacy to try to cement a peace agreement.

The newspaper first reported the news in April.

According to the WSJ, Biden's decision was motivated by ending U.S. military involvement in Afghanistan ahead of the 20th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, which prompted American intervention in the Middle Eastern country.

Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin also shared the concerns of top military leadership, the Journal reported in April.

What about VP Harris?

Vice President Kamala Harris claimed in April that she was the last person in the meeting room when Biden made the decision to order a full U.S. military withdrawal from Afghanistan.

Politico reported at the time, "Harris says she had key role in Biden's Afghanistan withdrawal decision."

"I have seen him over and over again make decisions based exactly on what he believes is right," Harris said in the CNN interview on which Politico was reporting.

Later on Sunday afternoon, after the Taliban entered the Afghan presidential palace and the U.S. ambassador to Afghanistan reportedly evacuated the U.S. Embassy in Kabul, the Pentagon announced the deployment of an additional 1,000 U.S. troops to Afghanistan.

"The Pentagon is authorizing the deployment of another U.S. 1,000 troops to Kabul, boosting overall number expected in Afghanistan to about 6,000, two U.S. officials tell me. The additional 1,000 come from an 82nd Airborne Division brigade already deploying in response to crisis," Dan Lamothe, a Washington Post reporter, said.
