Trafigura Revealed As Culprit Behind Copper Market Mayhem

 

It appears the culprit for the chaos in the copper markets has been identified. Bloomberg reports, citing 'people familiar with the matter' that Trafigura Group was behind a significant proportion of the orders to withdraw copper from London Metal Exchange warehouses. It’s not unusual for physical traders to withdraw metal from the exchange to ship to their customers, and Trafigura isn’t the only trading house to have taken metal off the exchange in recent months, the people said. And the move comes against a backdrop of very low inventories globally.

Still, total requests to withdraw more than 150,000 tons of copper from LME warehouses in the past two months have all but drained the available stocks on the exchange, and Trafigura represents a significant proportion of those, the people said.

 

This is not that much of a surprise since during the pandemic, Trafigura emerged as one of the most high-profile bulls in the global copper market, with head trader Kostas Bintas predicting that prices will hit $15,000 in the coming years as the industry witnesses a new supercycle underpinned by booming demand in electric vehicles and renewable energy. Additionally, Trafigura traded 4.4 million tons of copper last year, one million tons more than its largest rival, Glencore.

Wacky Senator Bill Cassidy from Louisiana is a RINO Republican who begged for my endorsement in 2020 and used it all over the place to win re-election, much like Little Ben Sasse, and then voted to impeach your favorite President.

 

 

I have done so much for the State of Louisiana, including making it possible to build major energy facilities that would never have happened without me filling up the strategic petroleum reserve at record low prices, and making sure they received huge amounts of hospital supplies and ventilators to aid the people of Louisiana in fighting the China Virus. Even the Democrat governor thanked me for all I did.

 

 

Now, Wacky Bill Cassidy can't walk down the street in Louisiana, a State I won by almost 20 points. He could not even be elected dog catcher today, the great people curse him.

 

 

Wacky Bill is a totally ineffective Senator, but Louisiana does have a great Senator in John Kennedy.

LME Takes Action To Counter Copper Market Mayhem

 

The London Metals Exchange said it would unleash its tools and it just did "in order to ensure market orderliness" in copper trading.

 

Steps include:

*Amending certain requirements within the lending rules

*Imposing a limit on the backwardation for tom-next contracts

*Introducing a deferred delivery mechanism for certain contracts

 

While the Spot-3m spread remains at unprecedented levels, the tom/next spread (backwardation) is just as impressively decoupled... so maybe this limit will help discourage the carry trade...These changes are intended to be temporary and will be reviewed as appropriate by the special committee.

U.S. Treasury will hold IMF chief accountable for integrity changes -official

 

The second-ranking U.S. Treasury official told senators on Tuesday that the agency would hold International Monetary Fund Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva accountable for changes needed to safeguard IMF integrity in the wake of a World Bank data-rigging scandal. “We did not find that it was appropriate at this point to remove the (IMF) managing director,” Deputy U.S. Treasury Secretary Wally Adeyemo told a U.S. Senate Banking Committee hearing. “But we did make very clear during those meetings, and directly to the managing director that changes need to be made to ensure whistleblowers’ rights are protected and that the integrity of the institutions are protected, which is our overarching goal,” Adeyemo said. Adeyemo’s comments underscored the Biden administration’s continued pressure on Georgieva after the IMF executive board last week cleared her of wrongdoing following allegations that when she was World Bank chief executive in 2017, she put “undue pressure” on bank staff to make data changes to boost China’s ranking in the now-canceled “Doing Business” report. “We will be holding her and the other leaders of the international financial institutions accountable for making these changes,” Adeyemo said.

 

A probe of “Doing Business” data irregularities, by law firm WilmerHale, is continuing and the firm is expected to issue a second report on potential misconduct by World Bank staff. Adeyemo’s boss, U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, last week during IMF and World Bank annual meetings, called for strong action by the two institutions to protect data integrity and prevent misconduct in the wake of the scandal. Georgieva told Reuters last week that the IMF has robust controls and a strong internal protections for whistleblowers, but would work with staff to strengthen the Fund’s credibility.

Yellen Backs Down on IRS Snooping on Americans’ Bank Accounts

 

Secretary of the Treasury Janet Yellen has relented in response to backlash over a controversial proposal by Democrats that would have allowed the IRS to gain information from any American bank account with more than $600 of activity in a year.

 

The measure initially came to light as a part of Democrats’ $3.5 trillion reconciliation bill. Trying to head off concerns from moderates, Democratic leaders and rank-and-file lawmakers have desperately marketed the bill as being completely paid for with no substantial effect on the deficit or national debt.

 

One proposal to achieve that end was the IRS measure. Despite immediate backlash, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Yellen adamantly defended the planned IRS overhaul.

 

Yellen, the former Chairwoman of the Federal Reserve who took control of the Treasury in January, said the measure is designed to target wealthy Americans who hide income from the IRS. Because of the measure, Yellen said the IRS will be able to collect more taxes from the wealthy and close the “tax gap.”

 

“We have a tax gap that over the next decade is estimated at $7 trillion, namely a shortfall in the amount that IRS is collecting due to a failure of individuals to report the income that they have earned,” Yellen said.

 

Now, Yellen has somewhat changed course, supporting a raise in the reporting threshold from $600 to $10,000.

 

While still supporting the broad goal of closing the so-called “tax gap,” she relented on key aspects of the program.

 

“Under the current system, American workers pay virtually all their tax bills while many top earners avoid paying billions in the taxes they owe by exploiting the system,” she said. “At the core of the problem is a discrepancy in the ways types of income are reported to the IRS: opaque income sources frequently avoid scrutiny while wages and federal benefits are typically subject to nearly full compliance.”

 

“This two-tiered tax system is unfair and deprives the country of resources to fund core priorities.”

 

However, responding to concerns that the program would target middle class and low-income Americans, Yellen announced several changes to the original measure.

 

Foremost, the reporting threshold will be raised to $10,000, addressing a key concern from critics who considered $600 to be too low to merit IRS snooping.

 

Yellen also announced an “exemption” from the measure “for wage earners like teachers and firefighters.” It is not yet clear whether this exemption will extend to other middle class wage earners in the private sector.

 

Yellen applauded these new proposals for “protecting American workers.”

While more than 150,000 people were evacuated from an area of roughly 444 square miles, a wide variety of flora and fauna remained behind. They continued to live in that area for multiple generations, offering scientists a fantastic opportunity to study the effects of lifelong radiation exposure.

 

And what they learned was quite surprising.

 

Scientists studied biomarkers of DNA damage and stress in populations of wild boar and rat snakes that lived in the Fukushima Exclusion Zone. Those biomarkers were chosen because they were the most telling signs of radiation's consequences on animals.

 

Interestingly, researchers failed to find any significant adverse health effects, even though they collected their samples between 2016 and 2018 — only five to seven years after the nuclear accident. These findings are especially significant in the case of the boars, because pigs are anatomically similar to humans. That suggests that humans may not need to be as fearful as they currently are about moving back into exclusion areas.

 

The study also has some interesting implications about what causes stress in animal populations. Because the boar and snakes receive large doses of radiation through the soil — one because of rooting, the other due to slithering — scientists looked at whether the telomeres or "caps" at the ends of their chromosomes had shortened; or, whether board had elevated levels of the stress-correlated hormone cortisol. Neither the boar nor the snakes showed signs that their telomeres had shortened because of radiation, and the boars' cortisol levels were quite low.

Florida’s Coronavirus Case Average Per Capita Lower than All But Two States

Florida, which came under a constant stream of criticism from corporate media outlets and blue state leaders throughout the Chinese coronavirus pandemic, is faring better than nearly every other state in the country in terms of case averages per capita, as the state’s two-week average of cases dropped by 33 percent.

 

According to the New York Times’ coronavirus map and case count, only two states are reporting fewer average cases per capita than the Sunshine State, which is reporting 14 per 100,000.

 

“This table is sorted by places with the most cases per 100,000 residents in the last seven days. Charts show change in daily averages and are each on their own scale,” the Times guide reads.

 

Only Louisiana and Hawaii reported lower figures per 100,000 residents — 13 and 9, respectively.

 

California tied with Florida at 14 per capita, but other blue states are reporting significantly higher numbers. Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s (D) Michigan, for example, is reporting 43 cases per 100,000, and Gov. Tom Wolf’s (D) Pennsylvania is reporting 35. New York — which implemented some of the most stringent lockdowns in the country — is reporting 23.

 

In the past two weeks, Florida has seen a 33 percent decrease in cases. It is faring better than both California, which saw a decrease of 16 percent, and New York, which saw a decrease of 8 percent. Notably, Washington, DC, which reinstituted its mask mandate, saw an uptick of cases by 2 percent in the last 14 days, and Michigan saw an 8 percent rise in the same time period.

 

Overall, Florida’s daily average of cases stood at 3,042 as of October 18. In the last 14 days, hospitalizations are down 40 percent, and deaths are down five percent.

 

The data comes as some blue state governors, such as Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker (D), reimplement mask mandates over fears of the virus’s spread. According to the Times’ data, Illinois reported 24 cases per 100,000, and despite the mask mandate, cases rose by 11 percent in the last 14 days.

 

Florida’s Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) never implemented a statewide mask mandate during the pandemic and received tremendous pushback from blue state governors, such as former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D), whose states ended up faring far worse in terms of fatalities and economic impacts.

 

Even Yahoo! News recognized the stunning silence of Florida’s most ardent critics, publishing a piece on Tuesday titled, “DeSantis’ critics fall silent as Florida’s COVID-19 cases drop.”

In September 2002 c/n 684 was registered as N684GA. Following an eleven-hour flight from Savannah (GA), the aircraft arrived at Lod Air Base in Israel on the 17th February 2006. The same day the test registration was cancelled and the new 684 registration was applied.

The Gulfstream V 'Nachshon Shavit' is used as an airborne Signals Intelligence (SIGINT) platform and was officially ordered in November 2001. Three 'green' modified airframes were delivered by Gulfstream Aerospace Corp. to Israel in June 2005, February 2006 and August 2006 for fit-out by Israel Aerospace industries (IAI) with an Airborne Integrated SIGINT System. Active with the Israeli Air Force during the July/August 2006 Lebanon War, the first delivered aircraft went into action only a very short time after reaching its initial operational capability. When on a mission the Nachshon Shavit searches, intercepts, locates, analyses, classifies and monitors transmissions that originate from air-, land- and sea-based transmitters. The aircraft are based at Nevatim as part of the 122 'The Nachshon' Squadron.

Transfer of eight phthalates through the milk chain--a case study

 

Abstract

 

This survey determined the levels of eight phthalates - i.e. dimethyl phthalate (DMP), diethyl phthalate (DEP), diisobutyl phthalate (DiBP), di-n-butyl phthalate (DnBP), benzylbutyl phthalate (BzBP), di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP), dicyclohexyl phthalate (DCHP) and di-n-octyl phthalate (DnOP) - in several Belgian milk and dairy products. Samples were obtained from various farms, a dairy factory and from different shops in order to investigate phthalate contamination "from farm to fork". At several stages in the milk chain, product contamination with phthalates - mostly DiBP, DnBP, BzBP and DEHP - was observed. At farm level, the mechanical milking process and the intake of phthalate containing feed by the cattle were found to be possible contamination sources. At industry and retail level, contact materials including packaging materials were additional contamination sources for phthalates in milk and dairy products.

Some farm equipment is a source of toxic chemicals in dairy, study finds

The dairy industry in the U.S. has been urged to finish the phase-out of phthalates in plastic and rubber as the FDA is accused of being ‘asleep at the switch’.

 

A new report (1) by the Coalition for Safer Food Processing & Packaging has both bad news and good news for lovers of dairy products.

 

The report confirms that some plastic and rubber equipment used to milk cows still contains hormone-disrupting chemicals known as ortho-phthalates.

 

Previous studies have shown that phthalates can escape into fatty foods such as dairy during processing, packaging, and preparation. The good news, investigators found, is that dairy equipment suppliers already offer many non-phthalate alternatives.

Most pregnant women know that they should avoid things like alcohol and tobacco while they are pregnant, as well as certain foods like sushi and soft cheeses. But not many pregnant women think about avoiding lipstick, perfume, or lotions — and it turns out that they probably should.

 

The problem is a type of chemical called phthalates. It’s nearly impossible to avoid phthalates entirely, as they are quite literally everywhere. They are in plastic products including packaging, in toys and garden hoses, as well as in cosmetics and other personal care products. They can act like hormones and interfere with male genital development, as well as increase the risk of cardiovascular disease and diabetes.

 

The risks of phthalates, though, begin before birth. A study showed that children whose mothers were exposed to phthalates during pregnancy were more likely to have problems with motor skills, the skills that we use not just in sports but also in everyday activities, and another showed that the children of mothers exposed during pregnancy had problems with language development.

 

Even if it’s impossible to avoid phthalates entirely, there are ways women can decrease their exposure:

 

Limit exposure to plastics, especially anything with the number 3 or 7 on them. Use glass, ceramic, or metal containers for food and drink.

Try to buy foods that don’t come in plastic packaging.

If you have to use plastic, don’t microwave it, and wash it by hand rather than in the dishwasher to limit the leaching out of chemicals.

Avoid anything with fragrance in it, as phthalates are commonly used in making fragrances.

Look into handmade cosmetic and personal products that don’t use any chemicals (and skip the products entirely when you can). The Environmental Working Group has a database you can use to learn more about commercial products.

Go DIY. Things like honey, coconut oil, baking soda, vinegar, and salt can be used in place of many commercial beauty products. Do a little research — you may find that it’s easier than you think to make a moisturizer, a shampoo, or a perfume.

Wash your hands often with soap and water.

Once the baby is born, continue to be mindful about chemicals that can cause harm. Look for fragrance-free products that are as all-natural as possible, keep up with DIY including for cleaning products, and limit plastics in the house, especially baby bottles and toys. We can’t escape all the harmful chemicals around us, but by getting back to basics, we can make things safer for our children.

Louisiana AG Jeff Landry to JP Morgan: No State Business if Your Policies Restrict 2A

 

Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry sent a letter to JP Morgan Chase letting the company know it will not be an eligible state infrastructure underwriter unless it pledges to avoid polices that restrict or discriminate against Second Amendment rights.

 

On October 18, 2021, the Hayride reported Landry’s letter, noting that Landry is not only Louisiana’s AG but also sits on the state’s Bond Commission.

 

Landry’s letter was addressed to JP Morgan chairman and CEO Jamie Dimon, and said, in part:

 

Your recent testimony before the United States House of Representatives, Financial Services Committee, on May 27, 2021, has called into question your ability to do business in several states, including Louisiana. In this testimony, you stated the following in response to a question from Rep. Madeleine Dean: “We do not finance the manufacture of military-style weapons for civilian use.”

 

He then went on to cite a Solicitation for Offers (SFO) form that JP Morgan submitted in 2020, in order to be considered for underwriting of Louisiana infrastructure projects.

 

Landry pointed to Question No. 15 on the SFO, noting its language:

 

Certify whether your firm, either itself or through its parent company has policies that: a) Restrict or would otherwise infringe on the constitutionally protected rights of the citizens of the State to lawfully keep and bear arms, b) Discriminate against citizens based on the citizens’ exercise of their constitutional rights, or c) Otherwise unlawfully discriminate against of the State.

 

Landry noted that JP Morgan claimed to have no policies restricting or infringing constitutionally protected Second Amendment rights in 2020, but believes the company “may wish to reconsider…[it’s] certification to the Bond Commission.”

 

On August 16, 2018, Breitbart News noted that Landry and the state’s Bond Commission denied $600 million to Citibank and Bank of America over the gun control stance adopted by both companies. At the time the action was taken Louisiana Executive Division press secretary Ruth Wisher told Breitbart News that Landry and State Treasurer John Schroder had been working on the state’s response to corporate gun control “for some time.” Leaving Citibank and Bank of America out of the $600 million was part of the response.
