Arctic Tensions Rise as Britain Leads Show of Force Against Russia in the Barents Sea

In the first such operation of its kind in 20 years, the British Navy were joined by American, Danish and Norwegian forces to supposedly demonstrate freedom of navigation against “Russian attempts” to control the Barents Sea in the Arctic, the British Ministry of Defense said in a statement.

Defence Secretary Ben Wallace said Britain intends to “re-engage more” in the Barents Sea in the future. This suggests that London is not motivated by “upholding peace,” but in pressurizing Russia and securing its own influence in the Arctic via not only NATO, but also the British-led Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF) that was created in 2012 and includes Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Norway, the Netherlands, Estonia and Finland.

“It is also the first time the UK has operated so far north alongside Denmark and Norway, both of whom are part of the Joint Expeditionary Force. Through groupings such as JEF and NATO, we demonstrate the UK’s commitment to peace, security, and freedom of access and navigation in the High North. These organisations are vital in setting the conditions for international security and it is crucial we all play our part in an increasingly unstable world of persistent challenge and competition,” the British Ministry of Defense said.

The British have effectively announced that they will create tensions and competition in the Barents Sea against Russia under the guise of “peace, security and free navigation,” despite not even being an Arctic country. British Defense Minister Ben Wallace said that the UK was committed to expanding its activity in the Barents Sea in the coming years, especially as melting ice on North Sea routes would cut the delivery of commercial cargo from China to Europe by 40%. Democrats are questioning the legal authority of the investigation, and whether Durham is allowed to release a public report of the probe before the election.

“Attorney General Barr has signaled repeatedly that he is likely to allow DOJ to take prosecutorial actions, make public disclosures, and even issue reports before the presidential election in November. Such actions clearly appear intended to benefit President Trump politically,” the Democrats wrote.

Amazon was the "second largest beneficiary" of the options trading, Reuters notes, seeing activity rise from $632 billion to $1.48 trillion over the same period.

These imbalances occurred over the summer, where volume is notoriously low in equity markets. In simple terms, as best as we can understand: major financial institutions seem to be undertaking equity manipulation via the relfexivity of options market (where the tail literally wags the dog) as an actual trading strategy now.

Early police arrest man in attempted kidnapping of 4-year-old girl

Published 2:50 PM EDT Sep 18, 2020

A man was arrested Thursday in connection with an attempted kidnapping of a 4-year-old at a store here earlier in the week, the Early Police Department said in a Thursday news release.

Ronnie Jackson, 46, of Early has been charged with attempted kidnapping, according to Brown County Jail records. He also was charged with fugitive failure to identify and is being held on a warrant out of Ector County for indecent exposure, the release said.

The Early PD received a tip about Jackson matching the suspect in a store security camera photo released by officers after the alleged kidnapping.

The investigation began at about 8 p.m. Tuesday, when an assistant manager of a store in the 300 block of Early Boulevard said a customer reported a man tried to grab her daughter.

Officers interviewed the mother, who said the suspect followed her around the store, according to an earlier news release.

The mother left the store to drop off her son at gymnastics and pick up her daughter. She then returned to the store, and the suspect still was inside and began following her again, Early PD said.

The mother "said at one point her daughter was a short distance from her and she called her to get beside her. As the daughter got closer to mom, the male lunged toward the child as if he was trying to grab her but missed," the first Early PD release said.

As the mother reported the incident to a store employee, the suspect exited the business and left in an SUV.

"Officers reviewed the videotapes from the store early Wednesday morning and obtained the photo of the suspect, but the video of the attempt to grab the child was out of camera view," the first Early PD release said.

After receiving a tip about Jackson's identity, the Early PD and an officer with the Texas Department of Public Safety went to the suspect's house on Salt Creek Drive in Early.

While talking with officers, Jackson gave a false date of birth, Early police said in the second news release. They eventually were able to obtain his correct information and learned he had a 2014 warrant for a charge of indecent exposure in Odessa.

Jackson was taken to jail, where officers questioned him further about the attempted kidnapping, Early PD said.

"Jackson denied trying to grab the girl from the store but admitted to being there for a short time," Early PD said in Thursday's news release.

Jackson was charged in the attempted kidnapping after officers obtained a warrant, which was served to him in jail.

Early PD stated Jackson lived previously on FM 3100 in Brown County for a short time but also has moved around the state.

Canada Shelves Free Trade Negotiations With China - Foreign Minister

Canada’s top diplomat said that Ottawa will review its policy towards Beijing and will do so through the "lens of China of 2020." The comments mark a major policy shift towards China that brings Canada more in line with the hardline posture adopted by the United States, Australia, and parts of the European Union.

Canada is abandoning free trade negotiations with China amid a host of disagreements on a range of topics, Foreign Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne said in an interview on Friday.

"I don’t see the conditions being present now for these discussions to continue at this time," Champagne said about trade negotiations as quoted by The Globe and Mail. "The China of 2020 is not the China of 2016."

When Prime Minister Justin Trudeau took office in 2015, his government signaled an interest in fostering deeper economic ties between the two nations.

Trudeau visited Beijing in 2016 and soon after discussions began about a possible free trade agreement. Subsequently, Canadian and Chinese delegations charged with the negotiations met three times throughout 2017.

Sino-Canadian relations soured after Canadian authorities detained Huawei CFO Meng Wanzhou in 2018 at the request of the United States, which was followed by the arrests of two Canadian nationals on charges of espionage in China.

The tense relationship has been further exacerbated by Canada’s condemnation of the newly enacted Chinese law on national security in Hong Kong and a suspension of some bilateral agreements with the special administrative region. Beijing has said that it reserves the right to respond to any interference on Canada’s part, and the Canadian side will be held accountable for all the consequences.

Despite the tensions, China remains Canada's second largest trading partner after the United States.

Trump expects Covid-19 vaccines will be available for 'every American' by April 2021

US President Donald Trump has announced that enough coronavirus vaccines will be available for "every American" to be immunized by April 2021. The military will start distribution as soon as Phase 3 trials are complete, he said.

Al-Jaafari: Syria calls on Security Council to adopt a draft resolution obliging certain countries to bring back their terrorists

New York, SANA_ Syria demanded continuation of efforts at the UN Security Council for the adoption of a binding draft resolution under Chapter VII of the UN Charter that obliges member states to collaborate with each other to eradicate the phenomenon of foreign terrorists, and commit the countries concerned to bring back their terrorists, hold them accountable for their crimes and to take deterrent measures against them to rid the whole world of the scourge of terrorism.

Syria’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Dr. Bashar al-Jaafari, during the UN Security Council’s session via video on Friday on the situation in Syria, clarified that the Council voted late last month on a draft resolution on the fight against terrorism that it was supposed to contribute to bridging an important gap in this regard, since said project should require member states to recover, prosecute or rehabilitate their nationals from “cross-border terrorists” or what some like to call “foreign terrorist fighters” and rid the countries in which these terrorists are active of their crimes.

Al-Jaafari indicated to some European countries’ irresponsible stance and refusal to take back their terrorists and hold them accountable and the immoral attempts of these countries to evade their related responsibilities.

He pointed out that Syria has been targeted over the past years with a brutal terrorist war in which well-known countries have recruited foreign terrorists and provided them with various forms of support and facilitated their infiltration across the borders with Turkey mainly to destabilize Syria and undermine its sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity, and its role in the region.

Al-Jaafari reiterated Syria’s condemnation and total rejection of the selective approach adopted by some member states regarding confronting the threat of terrorism to international peace and security and considering it a legitimate tool that could be invested as long as it does not target their countries and characterizing the terrorists as / a moderate armed Syrian opposition /, /armed groups /, / jihadists / or / freedom and democracy fighters / that do not pose any threat to peace and security to any country, region or the whole world, as long as they never think of returning to their countries.

Al-Jaafari indicated that several Western are determined to drown a number of countries with their human waste from terrorists, mercenaries and murderers after they used them to target certain countries including Syria.
