"We Do Not Consent" - 1000s Rally In London To Oppose Another COVID-19 Lockdown

Six months after parliament passed the Coronavirus Act 2020, which gives the government powers to impose lockdowns and other restrictive social distancing measures (measures that have been accompanied by stiff fines), thousands of Britons packed London's Trafalgar Square bearing signs reading "We Do Not Consent" and "Think Before It's Illegal" during a rally that was billed as a "We Do Not Consent" anti-lockdown demonstration.

The event was organized by a coalition of political groups, and supporters have been galvanized by the talk of another London lockdown by mayor Sadiq Khan, as well as PM Boris Johnson's assurances that a lockdown would be imposed if the government felt all other measures had failed.

Protests are exempt from the rule of six, a rule that threatens fines for groups of more than six people, which has created much aggravation in the UK. Organizers of the rally had to submit a "risk assessment" and agree to comply with social distancing rules. While police told the press that the organizers had completed these requirements, the metropolitan police promised to crack down on those not wearing masks and violating other rules.

They added that enforcement "remains a last resort but will be undertaken if required."

Demonstrators waved signs and British flags and cheered as speakers - including several notable "conspiracy theories", according to the Guardian - addressed the crowd. Crowds chanted “freedom” as people whistled and clapped. At points, police fulfilled their promise to break up crowds. Before they began, the protests received a warning from the Metropolitan Police, which said it would intervene if the protesters don’t abide by social distancing guidelines.

Toby Young, General Secretary of the Free Speech Union, expressed hope that law enforcement would allow the group to protest "as they did with [Extinction Rebellion] and BLM." Attending the protest, Kerry Dunn, 41, from Bath, claimed her son, Beau, suffered adverse affects after being vaccinated.

“I’ve been shouting that mandatory vaccines are coming, no one believed me,” she said. “Now we can see it’s just around the corner, we’ve never been closer."

Another event, billed as a “People’s network and family picnic”, is also being organised by the same activists for Sunday in Hyde Park.

Victoria’s health minister resigns after being accused of botching Covid-19 quarantine program

Jenny Mikakos, the health minister of Victoria, Australia, has stepped down after the state’s premier claimed she mismanaged a hotel quarantine scheme. Victoria has seen nearly five months of strict Covid-19 measures.

Her resignation comes a day after Premier Daniel Andrews told an inquiry that he “regarded her accountable” for the decision to use private security guards, instead of police or military personnel, at hotels that had been converted into quarantine centers. Lax security at the facilities has been blamed for the state’s alleged ‘second wave’ of coronavirus cases.

The board of inquiry has spent weeks trying to establish who made the decision to rely on private security to guard the hotels. Mikakos has insisted that she was not involved in the matter.

“I am disappointed that my integrity has sought to be undermined,” she wrote in a one-page statement announcing her resignation. She said that she “strongly disagreed” with “elements” of Andrews’ statement to the inquiry and that as a result, she could no longer serve in his cabinet. She said she also plans to vacate her seat in parliament.

Her departure marks the fourth minister to leave the administration in three months.

Victoria has sparked considerable controversy over its draconian anti-coronavirus measures. The state capital Melbourne has endured one of the world’s longest and strictest lockdowns, with stay-at-home orders or similar restrictions in effect for nearly five months.

The Australian state reported one new coronavirus-related death on Saturday, bringing its total death toll to 782 since the start of the health crisis. Victoria registered 12 new coronavirus cases.

Voters in 4 Battleground States File Lawsuits Claiming Election Meddling Funded by Mark Zuckerberg

Voters in four battleground states have filed federal lawsuits to prevent the funneling of millions of dollars from Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Google, and other tech firms through the Center for Tech and Civic Life which they allege is attempting to influence the outcome of the presidential election.

According to a recent press release from the Amistad Project, voters in four key states have filed lawsuits in federal courts to block the alleged funneling of millions of dollars from Mark Zuckerberg, Google, and other Silicon Valley firms through the Center for Tech and Civic Life (CTCL) which they allege is being used to influence the outcome of the presidential election.

The plaintiffs allege that the use of funds violates a federal law known as the Help America Vote Act which prohibits local governments from accepting federal election grants without state legislative approval and as a result forces the government to play favorites in the election process.

The complaints allege that CTCL used the funds to issue “grants” to local municipal governments which are allocating them to fund election activities. These efforts are intentionally targeting Democratic strongholds for the purpose of boosting voter turnout in those areas that delivered an overwhelming majority for Hillary Clinton in the 2016 election in an effort to sway the 2020 elections, according to the lawsuits.

Phill Kline, the Director of the Amistad Project of the Thomas More Society, representing the voters in the four federal lawsuits, said in a statement: “Government cannot be in the business of playing favorites in elections. These targeted funds pay government officials to turn out the vote in blue jurisdictions while the governors in these states are making it difficult and actually discouraging in-person voting on Election Day in more conservative areas of the states. Government targeting Democrat portions of a state to increase voter turnout, while also targeting Republican areas of the state to make it harder to vote, violates the basic premise of American jurisprudence that we are all equal before the law.”

Kline added: “While Mark Zuckerberg can use his private funds to help voters, these city and county officials can’t use the funds from CTCL to favor a certain class of voters over another. America has a dark history of voter suppression before the Voting Rights Act became law. This rigging of the game is the other side of that same coin.”

Breitbart News reported on a complaint filed against the CTCL by the Wisconsin Voters Alliance earlier this month. In a press release from September 11th, the Wisconsin Voters Alliance states:

Cumulatively, CTCL has thus far granted $16.3 million to the five cities in Wisconsin and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, which cast over 82% of their over one million combined total votes for Hillary Clinton in 2016. President Trump won Wisconsin by 22,748 votes and Pennsylvania by 44,292 votes that year.

In Wisconsin, CTCL has granted a total of $6.3 million in municipal funding from private sources to the Cities of Green Bay, Kenosha, Madison, Milwaukee, and Racine. The grants were issued directly to the cities and not the Wisconsin Board of Elections, which is responsible for managing elections throughout the state. A plurality of the funds — about 40% — went to support both vote-by-mail and early voting efforts. Around $1 million dollars went to “voter outreach and education efforts.”

Hundreds of US companies join Tesla to challenge Trump’s trade war tariffs – media

Lawsuits against the Trump administration have piled up over the last fortnight as some 3,500 American firms, including auto majors, retailers and pharmacies, were reported to challenge US tariffs on billions of Chinese goods.

The suits, filed by a wide range of companies in the US Court of International Trade in New York, seek to declare unlawful the latest rounds of levies on Chinese products imposed by Washington amid a wider trade dispute with Beijing. According to a Reuters report citing the filings, they name the US trade representative, Robert Lighthizer, and the Customs and Border Protection agency as defendants.

Some of the companies accuse the Trump administration of waging an “unbounded and unlimited trade war impacting billions of dollars in goods imported from the People's Republic of China by importers in the United States,” while others point at officials’ failure to comply with administrative procedures and impose tariffs within a required one-year period.

Trump Kneecaps Chip Giant SMIC Over 'Concerns' US Exports Being Shared With Chinese Military

Investors expect a ruling on ByteDance's request for an injunction against the Trump Administration order banning TikTok by the end of the weekend (a hearing has been scheduled for Sunday), but in the meantime, it appears the White He is already moving on to its next action item in the ongoing economic war against China.

As was previewed a couple of weeks ago, the Trump Administration is moving to cut off Semiconduct Manufacturing International Corporation - or SMIC - China's biggest producer of microchips, with wafer fabrication sites all across the mainland, off from US-made supplies. A letter obtained by the FT dated on Friday orders American companies not to send any more products to SMIC.

The administration argued that the products pose an "unacceptable risk" of being diverted to "military end use," according to a copy of the letter seen by the Financial Times. Just like sanctions on Huawei, the move threatens to cut off China’s biggest chipmaker from crucial US software and chipmaking equipment. Any companies that do want to export to SMIC will need to secure a special license from the Commerce Department.

"It all depends on how the US implements this. In the worst-case scenario, SMIC is completely cut off, which would severely set back China’s ability to produce chips. This would be a tipping point for US-China relations," said Paul Triolo, head of tech policy analysis at consultancy Eurasia Group.

It's clear that the administration's move goes beyond national security, with the goal of knee-capping another Chinese 'national champion'. SMIC, a "national champion" that is crucial to Beijing's aims of achieving chip self-sufficiency, recently oversaw country’s biggest domestic IPO in a decade, when it raised $7.6 billion in Shanghai earlier this year.

The administration's sanctions against Huawei have already seriously impacted SMIC. The rules appeared almost explicitly designed to stop SIMC from supplying certain chips to its largest customer, Huawei.

But US chipmakers will also feel some blowback: Qualcomm, which uses SMIC's foundries to fabricate some of its chips, will need to find a new partner, which means the Trump Administration might also rob SIMC of its second-largest customer after Huawei.

On Saturday, SMIC said that it was engaging with the Department of Commerce about the new rules. The company reiterated that it "has no relationship with the Chinese military, and does not manufacture for any military end users or end-uses."

To be sure, Chinese law requires all companies to cooperate with intelligence and military forces if so ordered by Beijing

SMIC added it had not received any formal notification of the sanctions.

Leftist Italian Govt Set to Dismantle Salvini Anti-Mass Migration Decrees

Italian Interior Minister Luciana Lamorgese has sent a draft letter to Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte which could dismantle the anti-mass migration decrees enacted by populist Senator Matteo Salvini.

Prime Minister Conte has previously stated that he wants to reform the security decrees which placed large fines on migrant transport NGOs and greatly restricted their activity to bring in migrants from the Libyan coast.

While Interior Minister Lamorgese has already reduced the fines to between €10,000 and €15,000, much of the security decrees remain in place such as the ban on residency permits for failed asylum seekers under “humanitarian” grounds.

According to a report from newspaper Il Giornale, the Conte left-wing coalition government is now looking to reverse the Salvini decrees and open the country back up to mass migration.

The new decree is expected to contain nine articles in total, one of which could expand the “special protection” that went on to replace the humanitarian protection residency permit.

For at least the past year, the coalition of the Democratic Party (PD) and the Five Star Movement has discussed scrapping the anti-mass migration decrees. It has allowed NGOs to operate in a limited capacity, sometimes seizing their vessels after they drop off migrants.

A ship belonging to one NGO, the German-based Sea-Eye, was initially rejected by Italian authorities for port access and announced this week the vessel would instead travel to Marseille, France, with 125 migrants aboard.

On Thursday, however, it was revealed that Italian authorities relented, giving the NGO’s vessel Alan Kurdi access to the port of Arbatax in Sardinia.

The acceptance came after a complaint from the French government, which said: “For two years, we have always stood by Italy in the solidarity mechanism for the management of landings. We, therefore, ask you to respond favourably to the request made by the NGO to dock in the nearest safe harbour.”

I have been interacting with, studying, and cataloging Trump Deranged individuals for almost four years now.

Until last week, they all want Donald Trump kicked out of office and he and his whole family arrested and jailed. Practically none (maybe 5 in 4 years) are willing to state publicly that they want him dead.

Three Arrested in Raids on Greek Far-Left Terrorist Group

Three people have been arrested following a raid on individuals thought to be linked to the far-left anarchist Popular Fighters Group (OLA) terrorist organisation.

The raids took place on Wednesday in the Greek capital of Athens with counter-terrorism police raiding four homes and a warehouse linked to members of the far-left terror group. Two men, aged 42 and 38, were taken into custody along with a 36-year-old woman.

My guess is that it has to do with liability. 8chan would be held liable to people under certain conditions. “Every year, countless Americans are banned, blacklisted, and silenced through arbitrary or malicious enforcement of ever-shifting rules,” President Donald Trump declared at a September 23 roundtable including Attorney General William Barr, Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO), and nine other conservative leaders. Trump then described his response: “In May, I directed Attorney General Barr to work with the state attorneys general as they enforce the state laws against deceptive business practices.”

Deputy Attorney General Jeffrey A. Rosen explained how this legislation will ensure that when Big Tech companies “moderate content in bad faith,” they will risk their Section 230 protections.

This roundtable discussed an entirely new approach to wrangling with Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, which protects Big Tech platforms from legal liability from lawsuits for content that appears on their platforms.

The discussion’s declared purpose was to “focus on concrete legal steps to protect an open Internet and a free society, including steps to ensure the social media companies cannot deceive their users with hidden efforts to manipulate the spread of information.”

Barr has delivered:

“I’m pleased to report that, earlier today, the Department, on behalf of the administration, has sent to Congress proposed legislation to reform Section 230. Positive tests should be confirmed by testing a second sample and all positive tests should be reported along with the Cycle Threshold (Ct) obtained during the test to aid assessment of a patient’s viral load.

It is recommended that a greater focus be placed on evidence-based medicine rather than highly sensitive theoretical modelling based on assumptions and unknowns. Current evidence allows for a greatly improved understanding of positive infectious patients and using the evidence to improve measurements and understanding can lead to sensitive measurements of active cases to give a more accurate warning of escalating cases and potential issues and outbreaks."

The American Israel Public Affairs Committee claimed victory this week in a 9-year-old legal standoff with several staunch critics of U.S. policy toward Israel.

The U.S. Supreme Court, in a 6-3 ruling issued Monday, made it highly unlikely that the pro-Israel lobby will have to disclose information about its membership and expenditures— a goal that has been sought by six former politicians and diplomats.

Alleging that AIPAC made campaign contributions and expenditures on behalf of political candidates, the plaintiffs have been urging the Federal Election Commission to regulate AIPAC as a political committee — a designation that would force the organization to file public reports about all of its receipts and expenditures. But in a case being closely watched by groups that lobby in Washington, the high court chose not to rule on the status of AIPAC and instead sent the case back to the FEC. Thus the battle is not necessarily over, and the plaintiffs have vowed to press ahead with the case.

AIPAC, for its part, defines itself as a membership organization and registered lobby on behalf of legislation affecting U.S.-Israel relations — with complete freedom to communicate with its members on politics and elections.

The plaintiffs in the case included James Akins, former U.S. ambassador to Saudi Arabia, and former U.S. Rep. Paul Findley (R-Ill.), who has referred to the federal government as “Israeli-occupied territory” and blamed AIPAC for defeating his 1982 re-election bid. Akins, Findley and four other former government officials who have worked to undermine U.S. support for Israel filed suit in 1989 in an effort to convince the FEC to scrutinize AIPAC’s finances. German Minister Admits Lockdown Will Kill More Than COVID-19 Does

Germany’s Minister of Economic Cooperation and Development, Gerd Muller, has warned that lockdown measures throughout the globe will end up killing more people than the Coronavirus itself.

In an interview with German newspaper Handelsblatt, Muller warned that the response to the global pandemic has resulted in “one of the biggest” hunger and poverty crises in history.

Muller warned that further damage will be done if draconian measures continue to be enacted by governments.

“We expect an additional 400,000 deaths from malaria and HIV this year on the African continent alone,” Muller emphasised, adding that “half a million more will die from tuberculosis.”

“The supply of food and medication is no longer guaranteed,” Muller continued, adding “Many of the West’s aid programs are not adequately funded,” also noting that while countries focus on battling the virus at home, it is having a massive toll on countries not equipped to combat it without help.

Muller further warned that “humanitarian catastrophes” are “building up right on our doorstep,” while European governments concentrate on lockdowns and restricting the movement of people.

“Europe has decided to support its own economy with programs worth around two trillion euros. No additional support is planned for Africa. That will catch up with us,” Muller urged.

The Minister admitted that a further wave of mass migration in the future could result from such action.

Muller’s comments come five months after a leaked study from inside the German Ministry of the Interior revealed that the impact of the country’s lockdown could end up killing more people than the coronavirus due to victims of other serious illnesses not receiving treatment.

The findings dovetail with other research that has concluded lockdowns will conservatively “destroy at least seven times more years of human life” than they save.

As we have previously highlighted, in the UK there have already been up to 10,000 excess deaths as a result of seriously ill people avoiding hospitals due to COVID-19 or not having their hospital treatments cancelled.

Professor Richard Sullivan also warned that there will be more excess cancer deaths in the UK than total coronavirus deaths due to people’s access to screenings and treatment being restricted as a result of the lockdown.

His comments were echoed by Peter Nilsson, a Swedish professor of internal medicine and epidemiology at Lund University, who said, “It’s so important to understand that the deaths of COVID-19 will be far less than the deaths caused by societal lockdown when the economy is ruined.”

According to Professor Karol Sikora, an NHS consultant oncologist, there could be 50,000 excess deaths from cancer as a result of routine screenings being suspended during the lockdown in the UK.

In addition, a study published in The Lancet that notes “physical distancing, school closures, trade restrictions, and country lockdowns” are worsening global child malnutrition.

Experts have also warned that there will be 1.4 million deaths globally from untreated TB infections due to the lockdown.

Judge denies Democratic donor Ed Buck's request to be released from jail, calling him 'a danger to the community who has no health risk that make him a greater risk of getting COVID-19'

A judge denied Democratic donor Ed Buck's request to be released on Friday, claiming he posed a danger to the community. U.S. Magistrate Judge Rozella A. Oliver said that the conditions presented by Buck's attorney were 'insufficient' to ensure that the embattled donor would show at trial, KCAL reports. Oliver also said that Buck's legal team failed to show how the medical staff at the Metropolitan Detention Center were incapable of handling their client's medical needs, after the defense expressed concern with Buck getting COVID-19. She added that he did not appear to have any medical conditions that seemed to put him at risk for catching the virus at 66 years of age. 'Ed Buck was asking to be confined to his home,' Jasmyne Cannick, who has advocated for the victims, shared. 'Home is where his crimes were committed. Home is where his drugs were delivered to. Home is where he was injecting people and sexually assaulting people. Home is where two Black men died. So we're excited and happy that the judge saw fit to deny his bail.''

On Friday, at a bail reconsideration hearing, Buck's defense attorneys argued that Buck, 66, is at high-risk of contracting coronavirus if he remains locked up. According to court papers obtained by City News Service, Buck said he was willing to pay a $400,000 signature bond as well as be electronically monitored and confined to his home. The attorneys also argued that Buck suffers from gum disease and needs specialized cardiac care that the criminal justice system is unable to provide. Federal prosecutors were against his release, claiming Buck is a flight risk and he represents a potential danger to the public. Since 2017, two African-American men have been found dead from drug overdoses in Buck's West Hollywood home. Prosecutors allege Buck would bring the black men to his home and then inject them with crystal methamphetamine for sexual gratification. In July 2017, 26-year-old Gemmel Moore, who was working as an escort, was found dead in Buck's apartment, lying naked on a mattress in the living room. Just a year-and-a-half later, in January 2019, a second man, 55-year-old Timothy Michael Dean, was found dead in Buck's home. Buck was arrested in September 2019, and charged with three counts of battery causing serious injury, administering methamphetamine and maintaining a drug house. In August 2020, a federal grand jury charged Buck with four additional felonies, bringing the total number of federal charges to nine counts. This includes a count alleging Buck knowingly enticed Moore to travel to engage in prostitution as well as another man. He is also charged with one count of knowingly and intentionally distributing meth and one count of using his home to distribute meth as well as the sedatives gamma hydroxybutyric acid (GHB) and clonazepam.

Prosecutors say Buck 'engaged in a pattern of soliciting men to consume drugs that Buck provided and perform sexual acts at [his] apartment,' according the court papers viewed by City News Service. He allegedly met victims on gay dating websites and social media platforms, and even hired a recruiter to scout men for him. When the men arrived at his apartment, Buck would allegedly fill syringes with meth and inject the victims with or without their consent. Areas Ripe For Section 230 Reform

The Department identified four areas ripe for reform:

Incentivizing Online Platforms to Address Illicit Content

The first category of potential reforms is aimed at incentivizing platforms to address the growing amount of illicit content online, while preserving the core of Section 230’s immunity for defamation.

a. Bad Samaritan Carve-Out. First, the Department proposes denying Section 230 immunity to truly bad actors. Second, the Department proposes exempting from immunity specific categories of claims that address particularly egregious content, including (1) child exploitation and sexual abuse, (2) terrorism, and (3) cyber-stalking. These targeted carve-outs would halt the over-expansion of Section 230 immunity and enable victims to seek civil redress in causes of action far afield from the original purpose of the statute.

c. Case-Specific Carve-outs for Actual Knowledge or Court Judgments. Third, the Department supports reforms to make clear that Section 230 immunity does not apply in a specific case where a platform had actual knowledge or notice that the third party content at issue violated federal criminal law or where the platform was provided with a court judgment that content is unlawful in any respect.

Clarifying Federal Government Enforcement Capabilities to Address Unlawful Content

A second category reform would increase the ability of the government to protect citizens from harmful and illicit conduct. These reforms would make clear that the immunity provided by Section 230 does not apply to civil enforcement actions brought by the federal government. Civil enforcement by the federal government is an important complement to criminal prosecution.

Promoting Competition

A third reform proposal is to clarify that federal antitrust claims are not covered by Section 230 immunity. Over time, the avenues for engaging in both online commerce and speech have concentrated in the hands of a few key players. It makes little sense to enable large online platforms (particularly dominant ones) to invoke Section 230 immunity in antitrust cases, where liability is based on harm to competition, not on third-party speech.

Promoting Open Discourse and Greater Transparency

A fourth category of potential reforms is intended to clarify the text and original purpose of the statute in order to promote free and open discourse online and encourage greater transparency between platforms and users.

a. Replace Vague Terminology in (c)(2). First, the Department supports replacing the vague catch-all “otherwise objectionable” language in Section 230(c)(2) with “unlawful” and “promotes terrorism.” This reform would focus the broad blanket immunity for content moderation decisions on the core objective of Section 230—to reduce online content harmful to children—while limiting a platform's ability to remove content arbitrarily or in ways inconsistent with its terms or service simply by deeming it “objectionable.”

b. Provide Definition of Good Faith. Second, the Department proposes adding a statutory definition of “good faith,” which would limit immunity for content moderation decisions to those done in accordance with plain and particular terms of service and accompanied by a reasonable explanation, unless such notice would impede law enforcement or risk imminent harm to others. Clarifying the meaning of "good faith" should encourage platforms to be more transparent and accountable to their users, rather than hide behind blanket Section 230 protections.

c. Explicitly Overrule Stratton Oakmont to Avoid Moderator’s Dilemma. Third, the Department proposes clarifying that a platform’s removal of content pursuant to Section 230(c)(2) or consistent with its terms of service does not, on its own, render the platform a publisher or speaker for all other content on its service.

Like most Democratic-machine cities, Philadelphia has endured its fair share of corruption emanating from city hall. But this latest scandal is truly unprecedented - it's almost like a prestige TV plot come to life.

Philadelphia City Treasurer Christian Dunbar is facing federal charges - and, if convicted, up to 45 years and $1.5 million fine - for allegedly embezzling thousands of dollars from bank customers and also committing to a "sham" marriage to gain American citizenship.

The charges were unveiled by Attorney William McSwain on Friday. The prosecutor said Dunbar was arrested by FBI agents on Friday.morning. A local TV station pointed out that the charges facing Dunbar are unrelated to his work as treasurer.

Philly Mayor Jim Kenney says Dunbar, who is originally from Liberia, and reportedly a descendant of American abolitionist Harriet Tubman, has been fired as city treasurer, and the inspector general will begin a "thorough review" of Dunbar's office.

"The criminal complaint announced today does not involve Christian Dunbar’s work with the City of Philadelphia. But in light of the allegations, his employment has been terminated effective immediately. At the same time, I have asked Inspector General Alexander DeSantis to begin a thorough review of the City Treasurer’s Office during the time of Dunbar’s employment as both Deputy Treasurer and Treasurer. This review can help resolve any concerns about the Office’s conduct and transactions during this period," Kenney said in a statement.

According to the criminal complaint, Dunbar is facing charges of embezzlement by a bank employee, conspiracy to commit marriage fraud, and fraudulent procurement of citizenship. He allegedly stole a total of $15,000 from two customers at the Wells Fargo Bank in Newtown Square where he worked as a financial adviser, weeks before he was appointed as the city’s deputy treasurer in 2016.

But the scheme to obtain citizenship through fraudulent marriage was perpetrated by Dunbar and three others - his current wife, and two friends they allegedly met at Temple University.

Dunbar's wife, identified in the criminal complaint only as "FND", along with the two others - identified only as "Person #1" and "Person #2" - also deliberately participated in the scheme to defraud the US via entering into sham marriages, but the complaint didn't detail any charges relating to them.

The two sham marriages - one between Dunbar and one of the co-conspirators, and the other between Dunbar's now-wife, and one of the other conspirators - occurred within days of each other in December 2006 and were performed by the same officiant, a former Temple University professor. But since that time, the only "legitimate" marriage Dunbar and his wife have participated in has been their own, which was cemented in Senegal back in 2013.

"The alleged conduct that is outlined in this case reveals a pattern of dishonesty, poor judgment and criminal behavior that spans many years," McSwain said Friday .

Over the last four years as treasurer, Dunbar has been responsible for managing the city’s debt obligations, bank accounts, its operations and capital accounts and petty cash amounts related to various departments.

Dunbar’s maternal grandfather, William VS Tubman, served as president of Liberia for 27 years and is widely regarded as "the father of modern Liberia".

“Hope those Jill Stein votes were worth it,” Vox reporter Aaron Rupar tweeted, suggesting that Stein was somehow responsible for Trump’s victory. Liberal commentator Bill Palmer called on Stein voters to “atone” for their misdeed by working to get Joe Biden elected.

On his HBO series ‘Real Time’, liberal comedian Bill Maher also targeted Stein voters, predicting Barrett would help overturn Roe v. Wade and make abortion illegal in the US.

“I hope you enjoy carrying your rape baby to term; you can name it Jill Stein,” Maher said in a lengthy diatribe against third-party voters.

Voters who chose to skip out on supporting a Democrat or Republican in the 2016 presidential election and instead cast their ballots for a third-party candidate pushed back on social media, though, slamming the claim that they handed conservatives the opportunity to nominate Supreme Court judges.

“I don't owe you or the Democratic Party s**t. I'm an independent. No regrets for voting for Jill Stein. Stop nominating war criminals,” one Twitter user said.

New Fort Hood Commander Orders Training Pause to Rebuild Soldiers' Trust

The new senior commander at Fort Hood, Texas, has ordered a training stand-down for all units as the first step in repairing the "erosion of trust" between soldiers and leaders that likely set the conditions for the disappearance and murder of Spc. Vanessa Guillen, a high-profile case that has attracted national scrutiny.

Just two weeks after taking over as the deputy commander of III Corps on Sept. 2, Maj. Gen. John Richardson IV has launched a yearlong effort to heal the base's deeply scarred image and begin rebuilding unit cohesion. The effort starts next week with Operation Phantom Action, a week-long training stand-down to give leaders time to start earning back the trust of their soldiers.

Army Forces Command sent Richardson to replace Maj. Gen. Scott Efflandt as the senior commander at Hood until the current III Corps Commander, Lt. Gen. Pat White, returns next month. White has been deployed as the leader of Combined Joint Task Force-Operation Inherent Resolve, which oversees the fight against ISIS in Iraq and Syria.

Efflandt and other leaders at Hood are the subject of multiple investigations to determine the root reasons why the base has suffered 28 soldier deaths so far this year, including the tragic death of Guillen. The 20-year-old 3rd Cavalry Regiment soldier was allegedly murdered by a fellow male soldier. Her family maintains that he had sexually harassed her, but she was afraid to report it to her leaders.

Rebuilding Lost Trust

Richardson believes he already has insights into Fort Hood's problem and how to fix it.

"My assessment is that we do have some significant issues to tackle here at Fort Hood," he told Military.com. "I think, first and foremost, you've got to admit that you have a problem before you can start to fix it. … We have had an erosion of trust between the soldiers and their leaders at echelon."

Soon after taking command Sept. 16, Richardson, along with 1st Cavalry Division commander Maj. Gen. Jeffery Broadwater, told brigade commanders that all leaders on Hood are going to return to the basics of building unit cohesion – a skill they said has been lost in the years of back-to-back deployments to combat zones.

"I am a true believer that cohesive teams are what win battles at the lowest level; it's the platoon that wins wars," Richardson said. "My assessment was that it really had to do with people and the time that we are investing in people, and the impact that is having on our ability to build cohesive teams that are based off of trust.

UK 'turning a blind eye' to war crimes in Yemen with Saudi arms sales

Opposition MPs urge government to suspend arms sales to avoid worsening Yemen's humanitarian crisis

The British government is facing renewed criticism over ongoing UK arms sales to Saudi Arabia, and has been accused by opposition MPs of "turning a blind eye" to war crimes in Yemen.

In a debate in the House of Commons on Thursday, Labour MP Claudia Webbe said it was "shameful" the UK was "complicit" in the Yemeni conflict.

"The UK supplies weapons and crucial military support to the Saudi-led coalition, which is responsible for the highest number of reported civilian fatalities," she said. "British companies should not be allowed to profit from the suffering of the people of Yemen."

Labour MP Sam Tarry said the government "should hang its head in shame at its central role in helping to create the world's worst humanitarian crisis by training, equipping and enabling the Saudi regime to bomb innocent Yemeni civilians".

"After suspending new arms sales to the Saudi regime last year, the government has resumed its deadly support in July," he added.

"Once again [the UK is] turning a blind eye to the war crimes that it is enabling Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to commit."

In June 2019, the UK government banned new arms sales to the Saudi-led coalition fighting in Yemen, after it was defeated in a lengthy court battle.

The ban also included sales to the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Bahrain and Kuwait, and covered any weapons or military equipment that could be used in the conflict.

But in July of this year, the government resumed weapons sales with International Trade Secretary Liz Truss saying officials had completed a review of how arms export licences were granted, and that any breaches of international law were "isolated incidents".

Scottish National Party MP Kirsten Oswald derided the decision, saying it was "beyond my comprehension" why the UK had resumed arms sales to Riyadh.

"The UK government needs to explain why they are not following the examples of Canada, Germany, Denmark, the UN, the US Congress and the European Parliament, among others, in calling for an embargo on arms sales to Saudi Arabia, in line with international guidelines on not selling arms to those involved in conflicts that target civilians," she said.

Still, some MPs supported the move, including John Howell of the Conservative Party, who argued that "unless we can stop the Iranian funding of the Houthi rebels, it is useless to put all the blame, and an arms embargo, on Saudi Arabia".

Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga vowed Saturday to press forward with reconstruction efforts for areas devastated by the 2011 earthquake and tsunami, as he visited the Fukushima nuclear power plant crippled by the disasters.

He made the comment after there was no mention of the disasters, or rebuilding work for the northeastern Tohoku region, in his Cabinet's basic policies adopted at its first meeting last week. Suga told reporters during his first official trip since he took office to succeed Shinzo Abe on Sept. 16 that when he formed the new Cabinet, he wrote of the need to continue reconstruction efforts in instructions handed out to all the Cabinet members. "There is no recovery of Tohoku, without recovery of Fukushima, and there is no revival of Japan without recovery of Tohoku. This is a basic policy of my Cabinet," he said. Fukushima is one of three prefectures in northeastern Japan hit hardest by the disasters that left nearly 15,900 people dead and more than 2,500 unaccounted for, and triggered the world's worst nuclear crisis since the 1986 Chernobyl accident.

The Abe administration's set of basic policies included the pillar of disaster recovery from its inception in 2012. Suga said Friday during a meeting on the rebuilding of the devastated areas that he will "inherit the policy" from the previous administration. "We want to make a decision as soon as possible" on radioactive water now being stored at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power station, he said. The government and the plant owner, Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings Inc., are considering how to dispose of the water, which has been contaminated with radioactive materials after being used to cool the melted fuel cores at the plant. They are looking at options such as releasing it into the Pacific Ocean or evaporation but local fishermen have voiced opposition due to fears consumers would shun seafood caught nearby. The water is being treated using an advanced liquid processing system, or ALPS, to remove most contaminants other than the relatively nontoxic tritium. It is being stored in tanks on the facility's premises but space is expected to run out by the summer of 2022.

Suga also visited a museum on the disasters and met with students from local junior and senior high schools as part of the official trip.

Barrett Did Not Affirm the Illinois Lockdown Order

What she actually did was to prioritize religious liberty.

Twitter is awash with false claims that Judge Amy Coney Barrett should not be nominated to the Supreme Court because she supported the draconian lockdown orders issued by Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker. More mendaciously, some are claiming that she supported the Democrat Pritzker in excusing violent rioters from the lockdown requirements through which ordinary law abiding citizens are required to suffer.

This falsehood is magnified because it obscures what Barrett actually did in the case: she affirmed a hard-won exemption for religious worship from the generally odious lockdown.

The plaintiff in the case, the Illinois Republican Party, challenged only the worship exemption (not the lockdown generally), arguing that it was wrong to exempt only religious services from the lockdown. Why the GOP geniuses didn’t just challenge the constitutionality of subjecting their own political activities to the lockdown is anybody’s guess.

But given the argument the Republicans in fact made, Barrett concluded that religious worship occupies such an elevated status, even as compared to other First Amendment-protected rights, that it was not categorically illegal for Pritzker to limit the exemption to religious services.

Again, the Illinois Republican establishment was not challenging the lockdown order generally (or anything to do with failing to enforce the orders against rioters). Federal judges aren’t supposed to go beyond the issues raised by the parties in order to reach points that they would prefer to rule on. We call judges who engage in that practice by a familiar name: “activists.”

Those who are debating the merits of Judge Barrett’s nomination should at least get the facts straight about the cases she rules in, and what her legal rulings actually say. When you consider that she strongly endorsed a very protective view of religious liberty, Barrett may be exactly the one religious conservatives want on the Supreme Court to stand against waffling from Chief Justice John Roberts.

Harley-Davidson announced on Thursday that it is closing its manufacturing operations in India, the biggest motorcycle market in the world. It will be massively scaling back its sales operations, as well.

The company is changing its business model in India and evaluating options to continue to serve its customers,” the company said in a statement on Thursday, adding that it was “communicating with its customers in India and will keep them updated on future support.

Harley’s departure involves $75 million in restructuring costs, making round 70 staff redundant and the closure of its Bawal plant in northern India. It will continue to operate factories in the US, Brazil and Thailand.

Harley Davidson came into India with much fanfare in 2011. But it has since, struggled to find a foothold in one of the world’s most lucrative two-wheeler markets. With sales averaging under 3,000 units every year, the iconic American brand simply couldn’t capitalize on the big Asia opportunity it was betting on.

Experts in the auto industry said that Harley-Davidson has battled against high taxes and low-cost competitors. U.S. President Donald Trump has previously complained about India’s high taxes, specifically mentioning the levies placed on Harley-Davidson bikes. India’s import tariffs were slashed by 50% but the brand has still struggled in the competitive market. The lifestyle element that goes with owning a Harley bike has just not fully developed in India yet.

Harley has also been suffering its own problems and reported a loss of $96 million between April and June this year. Its first quarterly loss in more than a decade. It has been cutting hundreds of jobs under its new chief executive Jochen Zeitz and focusing on core markets and models.

The iconic US motorcycle brand was founded in 1903 and has built a very loyal customer base. It has owners’ clubs all over the world. It hit the global stage in 1969 thanks to the classic road movie Easy Rider starring Dennis Hopper, Peter Fonda and Jack Nicholson.

Harley has been looking to grow the brand beyond baby boomers in the US, with smaller models and all-electric versions.

Confirmation hearing for Trump's Supreme Court pick to start Oct. 12

The Senate Judiciary Committee will start a four-day hearing for President Trump's Supreme Court nominee on Oct. 12, a person familiar with the schedule confirmed to The Hill.

The schedule will pave the way for Republicans to hold a vote on the nomination before the Nov. 3 election, setting a record for the closest date to a presidential election that a Supreme Court pick has been confirmed.

Though other nominees have been confirmed in a fewer number of days, they were farther away from the presidential election.

Chairman Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) is expected to announce the committee's schedule later Saturday, once Trump formally names a replacement for the vacancy created by the death of the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

Trump is expected to nominate Judge Amy Coney Barrett, multiple sources confirmed to The Hill on Friday.

Justices Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh, Trump's first two Supreme Court nominees, both had nearly two months between their formal nominations and the start of their hearings.

Under the schedule by Graham, Barrett will have just over two weeks.

Graham pledged that he would hold the hearings early enough that it would allow for Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) to hold a vote on the Senate floor before Nov. 3. Graham's schedule would set up a floor vote for the final week of October.

"We've got the votes to confirm Justice Ginsburg's replacement before the election. We're going to move forward in the committee. We're going to report the nomination out of the committee to the floor of the United States Senate so we can vote before the election," Graham told Fox News.

Barrett's confirmation hearings are expected to follow a similar schedule to previous nominees meaning it will last a total of four days: one for opening statements, two for questions and then a final day for outside experts, the source confirmed.

Atlanta activist spent $200G in Black Lives Matter donations on house, personal expenses: FBI

Sir Maejor Page, 32, is facing fraud and money laundering charges

The FBI has arrested the founder of a Black Lives Matter group in Atlanta on fraud and money laundering charges.

Sir Maejor Page, 32, was accused Friday of misappropriating $200,000 in donations he solicited through Facebook on behalf of Black Lives Matter of Greater Atlanta, Fox 5 Atlanta reported Friday.

Page was released on bond after appearing before a judge via video. He did not immediately return messages Saturday from Fox News.

The FBI opened an investigation last year after a cooperating witness submitted a fraud complaint against Page, whose real name is Tyree Conyers-Page, FBI agent Matthew Desorbo said in the complaint.

Page founded Black Lives Matter of Greater Atlanta in 2016 and this year took in more than $466,000 in donations in June, July and August, Desorbo said.

"In sum, Page has spent over $200,000 on personal items generated from

donations received through BLMGA Facebook page with no identifiable purchase or expenditure

for social or racial justice," he said.

The FBI said Page pledged to use those donations "for George Floyd" but instead used the money make purchases related to food, dining, entertainment, clothing, furniture, a home security system, tailored suits and accessories.

According to the bureau, Page also used $112,000 of the donated money to purchase a house for himself in Toledo, Ohio. The transaction took place last month.

Because if someone "cancels" me and damages my reputation on Twitter, for example, I can't go and sue Twitter for hosting that defamatory statement. Nothing to do with the first amendment though. "Well, son of a bitch," said Joe Biden. "He got fired."

The audience laughed. Biden always knew how to make people laugh. He had the common touch. But these weren’t common people — it was an audience at the Council on Foreign Relations in Manhattan, and Biden was trying to impress them with a story about himself as a man who got things done. It is easier to get things done using the resources of the U.S. government.

Biden was talking about a trip he made to Kiev to speak with Ukrainian officials. "I was supposed to announce that there was another billion-dollar loan guarantee," Biden said. He said that he had a commitment from the Ukrainian president and prime minister to fire the Ukrainian prosecutor investigating the Ukrainian company that paid his son more than $80,000 a month. Unlike his father, who made many business trips to Kiev, Hunter never visited.

The Ukrainian heads of state and government tried to deflect Biden's demands. "We're not going to give you the billion dollars," Biden told the Ukrainians. "They said, 'You have no authority. You're not the president.'" Biden dared them to call Obama. "I said, call him." The Manhattan audience laughed again. "I looked at them and said, 'I'm leaving in six hours. If the prosecutor is not fired, you're not getting the money.' Well, son of a bitch. He got fired."

Biden had implicated the former president in an extortion scheme, in front of an audience. His statements were on videotape for anyone to view online. Of course no one was going to prosecute Obama or Biden. The making of foreign policy requires the use of various instruments to advance the national interest. Whether leveraging U.S. taxpayer money to get the vice president's son out of trouble served the national interest is another question.

Biden said he never asked Hunter about his business, but he should have warned him that doing business in Kiev was a bad idea, for him and for U.S. national security. Hunter's problems with money, women, and substance abuse would have flagged the attention of foreign intelligence services looking to influence the United States through the troubled son of the vice president. His job on the board of a company under investigation for corruption in a country known for corruption also would have made him and U.S. national security vulnerable. It was the duty of the chief executive to find out what, if anything, had happened.

Democrats Can't Quite Decide on a Line of Attack Against Judge Barrett

Democrats are giving out mixed messages on their opposition to the nomination of Amy Coney Barrett for the Supreme Court. Some Democrats want to attack her faith. Others, her opposition to Obamacare. Still others want to attack the process, arguing Trump shouldn’t have picked anyone.

Roe v. Wade, civil rights, a “balanced court” — all of these things are at risk if Barrett is confirmed, say the Democrats. But it’s so much easier to energize their base by going all anti-Catholic on Barrett, smearing her as some Handmaid’s Tale fanatic.

People of Praise has been accused of being a right-wing sect. It answers that it has politically liberal and conservative members. They don’t appear to be obsessed with traditionalism or orthodoxy and are ecumenical: Members include Protestants as well as Catholics. They have joined together intentionally, in community, to pray together, perform service, and run schools. They’re Christians living in the world.

If they are right-wing religious extremists someone had better tell Pope Francis, who appointed a member of People of Praise’s South Bend community as auxilliary bishop of Portland, Ore. . . .

HBO host Bill Maher accused her of being a “speaking in tongues” Catholic — whatever the hell that is.

“Apparently, the pick is going to be Amy Coney—we’re going to be saying the name a lot, because she’s a f***in’ nut, religion, I was right about that one too!—Amy Coney Barrett,” said Maher. “ Catholic. Some Democratic senator will probably ask her during her confirmation hearing whether she has divided loyalties between the U.S. government and the Vatican. That’s been an anti-Catholic staple since the 1850s.

Democrats do not understand people of faith. They are completely clueless about evangelical Christians and devout believers of any kind. Barack Obama was perplexed that the “conscientious objectors” to Obamacare’s birth control mandate didn’t take the “compromise” he offered. He didn’t understand that there is no “compromise” with conscience. The rest of the left is equally perplexed when people base their political beliefs on religious premises.

Regardless, that angle will probably get replaced by the simple fact that the Supreme Court will hear a case on the fate of Obamacare after the election, and having six sitting justices who would probably vote to wink it out of existence has liberals terrified.

Obamacare is the last part of Barack Obama’s questionable legacy, with Trump and the Republicans having scuttled most of the rest of it. The Iran deal, immigration “reform,” and many environmental regulations have been ended. Obamacare is the last — and most important — pillar of Obamaism left standing.

Some Democrats believe they should fight harder to keep Barrett off the bench so that Biden could name a liberal justice who would give the law a decent chance to survive.

Sen. Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii) on Friday expressed frustration with his party over its messaging regarding the current Supreme Court fight embroiling the Senate, saying Democrats should focus their arguments on Republicans’ efforts to repeal the Affordable Care Act.

Schatz highlighted remarks arguing that the GOP is rushing to fill a vacancy on the Supreme Court so the party can install a justice who would overturn the Obama-era health care law, “kicking millions off their health care,” saying Democrats “should say this, using these words.”

We’ve known this for six months - pneumonia deaths, as customarily reported, just fell off a cliff and were subsumed into Covid numbers. What has never been acknowledged by government, health establishment, or media is that the vast majority of claimed Covid deaths would have died anyway from other causes.
