Dominion Voting Systems has issued a statement responding to lawsuits we filed in Michigan and Georgia. Dominion is lying. This is a massive fraud that has infected the voting system across this country. Evidence continues to pour in on behalf of all the Plaintiffs. Legal votes cast nationwide created a historic landslide for Donald Trump.

 

Dominion contends that it is impossible for any tampering of the votes on its machines to have occurred. Our evidence proves otherwise. Prior analysis of server logs on Dominion’s machines in Georgia primary elections has shown remote access into those servers in the middle of the night when no election workers were around, possibly by Dominion employees overseas or on behalf of adverse nation-states such as Iran and China. Witnesses have observed what appeared to be Dominion technical support staff connecting remotely to election servers during tabulation of the primary and runoff elections in Georgia to resolve β€œtechnical problems” with uploading memory cards. That action violated Georgia and federal law that required certification of the machines and no manipulations.

 

Dominion also contends that any such tampering would have been revealed by the hand count audit conducted in Georgia. This is not true. The ballots marked by the Ballot Marking Devices (BMD) do not record the vote in a software-independent way. Instead, Dominion’s software is responsible for taking the voter’s machine input and printing it on the paper ballot in a QR code that contains the vote that is read by the scanner, but cannot be read by humans, and a text summary that can be read by humans.

 

Robust and repeatedly confirmed behavioral research shows that only around 6.5% of voters actually bother to scrutinize the human readable text summary. Thus, more than 93% of these allegedly β€œvoter verifiable ballots” are not in fact β€œvoter-verified” at all. See Exhibit 7 to

Similarly those to whom power and position have been granted who refused to employ that power so as to not impede the subversion of the structures they swore to defend, or who threatened the use of that power in furtherance of that subversion. Let their acts too be known publicly that they may be driven from office and stripped of power at the earliest possible opportunity.

 

Those without special position or title who acted to further the subversion whether by arson, theft, assault, or any other criminal act, let them also be tried and feel the full weight of justice upon their shoulders.

 

But for those whose only offense was to espouse opinions of which we disapprove, if we hold dear the principles of liberty and free speech then these individuals we must let pass unscathed. We must do this even though their opinions exude the most odious reek and their words drip with the most corrosive of vitriol.

 

And so we return to where we started, with words of warning and caution. But these are not my words. History is replete with the cautionary stories of patriots who lit the fires of revolution only to find when those flames had gone out that they had burnt away the very foundations of all the patriots had sought to defend, and the patriots had become the very tyrants they sought to depose. For these patriots had fallen prey to the most insidious of their foes, the belief that the ends justified the means. This is the belief of those we oppose. Let us not fall prey to it ourselves. Let us heed the warnings of patriots past. Let use learn from their mistakes and not repeat them. Let us be ever vigilant against our worst impulses.

Further, it has been repeatedly established that Dominion’s BMDs are vulnerable to hacking. Substantial evidence of this vulnerability was discussed in Judge Amy Totenberg’s October 11, 2020 Order in the USDC N.D. Ga. case of Curling, et al. v. Kemp, et. al, Case No. 1:17-cv-02989 Doc. No. 964. Georgia’s Election Code mandates the use of the BMD system as the uniform mode of voting for all in-person voters in federal and statewide elections. O.C.G.A. Β§ 21-2-300(a)(2). The statutory provisions mandate voting on β€œelectronic ballot markers” that: (1) use β€œelectronic technology to independently and privately mark a paper ballot at the direction of an elector, interpret ballot selections, communicate such interpretation for elector verification, and print an elector verifiable paper ballot;” and (2) β€œproduce paper ballots which are marked with the elector’s choices in a format readable by the elector” O.C.G.A. Plaintiffs and other voters who wish to vote in-person are required to vote on a system that does none of those things. Rather, the evidence shows that the Dominion BMD system does not produce a voter-verifiable paper ballot or a paper ballot marked with the voter’s choices in a format readable by the voter because the votes are tabulated solely from the unreadable QR code.

In other words, Dominion’s BMD ballots are not voter verifiable, and they cannot be audited in a software independent way. The credibility of a BMD ballot can be no greater than the credibility of Dominion’s systems, which copious expert analysis has shown is deeply compromised. The system has no verifiable audit trail.

THE CHINA CONNECTION: Parent company of Dominion Voting Systems Received $400 million from Swiss Investment Bank β€” 75% owned by the Chinese Government

 

An investigation into SEC filings has revealed that the firm which owns Dominion Voting Systems received $400 million dollars from a Swiss bank with close links to the Chinese government less than a month before the election.

 

The investigation, conducted by Austin Security and Investigation Solutions, centers on Staple Street Capital, which acquired Dominion Voting Systems in 2018.

 

Dominion Voting Systems operates voting machines in 28 states and has been accused by President Trump and his supporters of being involved in deleting millions of votes for Trump in addition to switching votes to Biden on election night.

 

β€œOn Oct 8, 2020, Staple Street Capital filed SEC Form D offerings and sales amount of $400,000,000 with the Sales Compensation Recipient identified as UBS Securities,” states the investigation, which also notes that another payment of $200,000,000 was received in December 2014.

 

β€œUBS Securities is a swiss investment bank which owns 24.99% of UBS Securities Co LTD, a Chinese Investment Bank. The remaining 75% of UBS Securities CO LTD is owned by the Chinese government,” states the report.

 

The overall owners of UBS Securities Co LTD are;

– UBS (24.99%)

Dominion tries to distance itself from the manufacturer of the electronic poll books. These devices were included in the package Dominion sold to the State of Georgia. They are partners, and their devices and systems interact. Dominion cannot claim to be a bystander with respect to the electronic pollbooks or the software.

 

Issues with the poll books have caused an erosion of the reconciliation of the number of voters and the number of ballotsβ€”a fundamental safeguard against election fraud. We see this in the discovery of thousands of missing ballots in two Georgia counties during the hand count audit–something that should have been identified on election night with proper reconciliation. The failure of the reconciliation process was also documented in the Georgia primary and runoff in Curling v. Kemp.

 

Dominion also contends that its machines are run by county election officials and not Dominion employees. In fact, Dominion tech support people were present in precincts and key tabulation centers. They effectively ran the election for Georgia counties, whose employees lacked sufficient proficiency on the system to run the election by themselves. One ran the import Detroit facility throughout election night, and there was massive fraud there. Dominion dispatched employees to multiple locations to run this election, and even worse, it was also accessed by Iran and Chinaβ€”among many others. This is one of the greatest national security failures in the history of the countryβ€”if not THE worst.

 

Dominion claims there were no last-minute changes to their software. In fact, there were. In the Curling v. Kemp case, it was undisputed that a last-minute update was applied. The only issue was

whether it was de minimis as Dominion and the State claimed, or more substantial. Dominion’s remote access to the machines and its allowance of β€œbackdoor” VPN access to foreign actors invalidates the results for Biden in multiple states. Many down-ballot candidates were robbed of their seats alsoβ€”and American citizens robbed of their lawful choices.

Powell: Dominion Server Removed From Fulton County While Lawyers Sought Restraining Order

 

Attorney Sidney Powell said on Monday that someone had removed a Dominion Voting Systems server from a recount center in Fulton County, Georgia.

 

β€œSomeone went down to the Fulton center where the votes and Dominion machines were, claimed there was a software glitch and they had to replace the software, and it seems that they removed the server,” Powell told β€œLou Dobbs Tonight” in an interview aired on Nov. 30.

 

Powell added that her team does not know where the server is.

 

Dominion’s software and hardware features prominently in two lawsuits filed by Powell in Georgia and Michigan.

 

The lawsuits claim that the software is vulnerable to manipulation by hackers and was used to alter to vote totals in the presidential election.

 

Powell prefaced her comment by saying that the alleged removal of the server took place when her team was seeking a temporary restraining order against the resetting, wiping, or altering of any of the Dominion machines. A district court judge subsequently granted the temporary restraining order on Sunday night.

 

Powell said her team is making significant progress in both cases while preparing to files suits in other states. She said the lawsuits are meant to stop the runoff elections in Georgia in January β€œbecause all the machines are infected with the software code that allows Dominion to shave votes from one candidate and give them to another and other features that do the same thing.”

 

β€œDifferent states shaved different amounts of votes. The system was set up to shave and flip different votes in different states. Some people were targeted as individual candidates. It’s really the most massive and historical egregious fraud the world has ever seen,” Powell said.

 

Dominion has vehemently denied these and other allegations.

 

A Dominion Voting Systems server crashed on Nov. 29 during the second recount in Georgia, according to a spokesman for Fulton County.

 

β€œA newly purchased Dominion mobile server crashed,” the spokesman told The Epoch Times via email. β€œTechnicians from Dominion have been dispatched to resolve the issue.”

 

The office of the Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, a Republican, was told of the issue and is aware of attempts to fix the problem, the spokesman said.

 

Dominion and Raffensperger’s office didn’t immediately respond to emailed requests for comment.

 

The judge presiding over the Powell case in Georgia has scheduled a hearing concerning the temporary restraining order for Dec. 4.

 

According to an affidavit from a GOP poll worker that was filed alongside the request for a restraining order, an election official wrote in a message on Nov. 25 that some ballot-counting machines were to be reset on Nov. 30 so they could be used in the machine recount requested by the Trump campaign given the tight margin with former Vice President Joe Biden.

 

Upon seeing the message, the poll worker said they notified their supervisor because they were concerned about wiping of the machines.

LA County Supervisor Eats At Restaurant Hours After Voting To Ban Outdoor Dining

 

In the early days of television, Sheila Kuehl had a role in a now forgotten show, The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis, which ended in 1963. She then became a leftist, a lawyer, and a politician. Despite the long interval between her Hollywood years and today, Kuehl still clings to that lampooned Hollywood notion about stars versus "the little people." How else can one explain that, after railing against restaurants and voting to shut them down, Kuehl promptly went to a nice restaurant for dinner?

 

During the lockdown, politicians continued to draw their taxpayer-funded paychecks and telecommute from the comfort of their homes. Meanwhile, they targeted small businesses that depend on dealings with the public. More than any other business, restaurants were in Democrat politicians' crosshairs.

 

As of mid-September, more than 100,000 restaurants had closed across America. In the two months since then, it's certain that several thousand more have closed. The San Francisco Chronicle, for example, runs a regular column identifying restaurants that are gone.

 

Every closed restaurant represents several people's lives going down the drain. The owner who sank all of his money in the restaurant, the employees who worked there, the suppliers who were dependent on its custom, and the surrounding stores who counted on the foot traffic it brought β€” all of it's gone. And I might add, there's no reason to believe that these horrific losses made a damned bit of difference to the course of a virus that is relentlessly working its way through the population.

Denver's mayor, Michael Hancock, flew to his family within 30 minutes of telling Denver citizens to stay home for Thanksgiving.

 

Andrew Cuomo, having reinstated the lockdown across New York, boasted about his family coming home for Thanksgiving.

 

Illinois's Governor J.B. Pritzker, another Democrat millionaire, was happy to see his family travel during the height of the spring lockdown.

 

Pennsylvania's health secretary, "Rachel" Levine, who leftists pretend is not a mentally ill man telling people he's a woman, forced sick people into nursing homes in May, even as he secretly removed his own mother. Levine, incidentally, is being floated as a possible surgeon general. That's just what America needs: a hypocritical, self-entitled, mentally ill surgeon general.

UK High Court says minors must β€˜understand’ treatment before starting gender transition, in β€˜devastating blow’ to trans activists

 

The UK’s High Court has ruled that minors can only consent to gender reassignment if they understand the treatment, after a β€˜detransitioning’ woman filed suit against the NHS for enabling β€˜irreversible’ biological changes.

The Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ), the UK’s signals intelligence agency, has been accused of violating ethics rules after emails showed the organization consciously ignored questions from a reporter.

European Union needs perpetual debt to survive – George Soros

 

Objections by Poland and Hungary over an EU plan to deal with the economic crisis has put the bloc in a β€œvery difficult situation” and raises doubts over its future, according to billionaire investor George Soros.

 

Soros had previously said the EU should issue β€œperpetual bonds,” which means the principal amount of the money borrowed would never be repaid, only the annual interest payments. It also assumes the EU would last forever and therefore keep paying the interest back to the lender. Perpetual bonds could allow the region to fund projects at very low costs.

 

However, Soros has changed his mind, writing in an opinion article that β€œRight now, it would be impossible for the EU to issue perpetual bonds, because the member states are too divided.”

 

He explained that β€œInvestors will buy perpetual bonds only from an entity that they believe will continue to exist for the foreseeable future… Sadly, it is not true of the EU today.”

 

Last month, the Hungarian and Polish governments vetoed EU’s plan to link access to the union’s funding to the application by member states of rule of law, a check on whether countries are complying with European values.

The paper also said health officials worry that such resources could be overwhelmed across the county as more people ignore public health guidelines.

 

"Limiting certain activity that can easily result in increased cases like outdoor dining at restaurants is done to try to get our case rates lower so we can move to a less restricted tier and open more businesses," Davis added, according to the Daily News. "We know what we have to do, but not enough people are doing it."

 

Indeed, county supervisors last week barred outdoor dining at restaurants β€” not that it prevented Supervisor Sheila Kuehl from doing just that only hours after her vote for the ban.

 

The Daily News added that county projections show COVID-19 present in roughly one in every 145 people β€” many of whom may not know it.

 

Interestingly, Los Angeles County Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer and Davis have "acknowledged that contact tracing cannot definitively point to outdoor dining as the cause of the surge. Davis leaned on Centers for Disease Control studies. They stressed it is the only retail activity that allows customers to be mask-less for long periods of time," the paper added.

The county also issued a new health order that went into effect Monday, saying "residents are advised to stay home as much as possible and always wear a face covering over their nose and mouth when they are outside their household and around others."

Non-essential retail (includes indoor malls) – 20% maximum occupancy

Personal care services – 20% maximum occupancy

Libraries – 20% maximum occupancy

Fitness centers operating outdoors – 50% maximum occupancy

Museums galleries, zoos, aquariums, botanical gardens operating outdoors – 50% maximum occupancy

Mini-golf, batting cages, go-kart racing operating outdoors – 50% maximum occupancy

 

Outdoor recreation activities all which require face coverings (except for swimming) and distancing:

Beaches, trails, and parks remain open; gatherings at these sites with members outside your household are prohibited.

Golf courses, tennis courts, pickleball, archery ranges, skate parks, bike parks, and community gardens remain open for individuals or members of a single household. Pools that serve more than one household may open only for regulated lap swimming with one person per lane.

Progressive Voter-Advocacy Groups Probed for Illegal Registrations Ahead of Georgia Run-Off

Several Progressive and Left-leaning voter advocacy groups have come under scrutiny for the actions in the State of Georgia. With the fate of the United States Senate hanging in the balance, the January 5, 2021 run-off election is a magnet for vote fraud.

 

Embattled Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger said Monday that election authorities have opened investigations into a number of aggressive Progressive voter advocacy groups that are attempting to register new voters before the registration deadline for the twin run-off elections.

 

Raffensperger, a Republican who has increasingly come under fire for his soft approach to claims of vote fraud and ballot tampering – as well as his quietly held meetings with Democrat organizations to hammer-out agreements about absentee voting, said his office was examining registration efforts by America Votes, Vote Forward and the New Georgia Project.

 

The Progressive activist groups in question have been reported to be encouraging non-Georgia residents and people who lived outside the state to register to vote in the upcoming election.

 

β€œThese third-party groups have a responsibility to not encourage illegal voting. If they do so, they will be held responsible,” Raffensperger said.

 

It is a felony to move into the State of Georgia with the intention of voting in an election without establishing long-term residency.

Raffensperger told reporters at the state Capitol that his office is continuing to investigate credible claims of illegal voting and violations of state election law. He said his office has more than 250 open cases from this year outstanding.

 

Four groups are being targeted by Raffensperger’s office regarding specific allegations of improper actions and violations of Georgia election law.

 

America Votes has blanketing the state with absentee ballot applications including to addresses where the addressees haven’t lived in more than 25 years. Vote Forward attempted to register a dead Alabama woman to vote in Georgia. And the New Georgia Project sent standard voter registration applications to New York City.

 

A group calling itself Operation New Voter Registration Georgia is fraudulently telling college students they can change their registration so they can vote in Georgia for the run-off election and then immediately change it back to their home state after the election.

 

That group, Raffensperger said, doesn’t seem to have an online presence. An email sent to an address on a post circulating on Twitter found a dead end.

As Breitbart News reported, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison has demanded Beijing apologize after a top CCP official posted an obviously contrived image on Twitter depicting an Australian soldier with his knife to a child’s throat, appearing to prepare to behead the victim.

 

Morrison described the post by the official Twitter account of Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian as an β€œoutrageous and disgusting slur” at a virtual news conference in Canberra on Monday.

 

AFP reports Twitter said it had since marked the tweet as β€œsensitive,” but added comments on topical political issues or β€œforeign policy sabre-rattling” by official government accounts were generally not in violation of its rules.

 

Twitter is banned for most citizens in China and Beijing has for decades been accused of widespread human rights abuses.

 

Some Australian allies expressed concern over the tweet, including New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, with the support coming as Australia looks to strengthen its alliances in the Indo/Pacific region as a guard against Beijing’s increasingly strident diplomacy.

β€˜People Were Thrown Through the Air’: Several Dead After Car Crashes Through German Pedestrian Street

 

Police are investigating after a car sped through a pedestrianised street in the German city of Trier on Tuesday afternoon, a β€˜rampage’ that left at least two dead.

 

Trier police confirmed that two people had died on Tuesday, with reports suggesting 10 others injured, including a child. Local news reported that the number of dead was actually four, and that the child mentioned in other reports was among the dead, and named the number of injured at 30.

 

German source Die Welt reports eyewitnesses who said β€œthat people were thrown through the air” as a car drove into a pedestrianised shopping area at speed.

 

Police subsequently arrested a 51-year-old German citizen and are investigating the circumstances around the incident, and whether there was any motive. The emergency service response to the deaths is so large, ambulances have come from over the nearby Luxembourgian border to assist.

 

Die Welt cited the remarks of Trier’s mayor who said Tuesday’s deaths were due to a β€œrampage”, and what had been left behind by the SUV-type car driving through the pedestrian area was a β€œpicture of horror”.

 

As is now customary in the aftermath of incidents that share similarities with previous terror attacks, German citizens have been asked by the government to not share speculation and rumours on the internet, Deutsche Welle reports. Indeed, the fact that two were killed in Trier today, the first day of December, near the city market, and surrounded by Christmas lights, will inevitably draw a comparison to the Berlin Christmas Market Attack, although police have indicated no extremist link today.

Over 2,500 Foreign Criminals Freed From UK Prisons in the Past Year

 

Over 2,500 foreign criminals have been released onto the streets of Britain rather than being deported in the last year alone.

 

At an average of seven releases per day, Home Office figures reveal that over the past 12 months some 2,552 foreign criminals were freed from prison and remained in the UK without being deported.

 

The number of foreign criminals being released back into the community spiked during the Chinese coronavirus pandemic, with a record 846 set loose between April and June alone, the Daily Mail reported.

 

Hundreds of foreign national offenders successfully won their release after arguing that as a result of many international flights being grounded during the pandemic, there was not a β€œrealistic prospect of imminent removal” and therefore, under current law, it would be illegal to detain them in immigration holding facilities.

 

Research Director for the Centre for Crime Prevention think-tank, David Spencer, said: β€œIt is outrageous that thousands of convicted foreign national criminals have been able to exploit the pandemic to secure their release onto our streets.”

The deputy leader of the British Labour Party, Angela Rayner, has threatened that thousands of members could be expelled from the party an effort to purge anti-Semitism from their ranks.

Report: Democrats face voter fraud allegations after ballot review by Dem judge erased Republican lead

 

Democrats are reportedly facing voter fraud accusations in an extremely tight New York congressional race that resulted in a Republican candidate having her lead over a Democratic incumbent completely erased, the Washington Examiner reported.

What are the details?

 

On election night, freshman Democratic Rep. Anthony Brindisi (N.Y.) trailed Republican challenger Claudia Tenney by over 28,000 votes. Then, as mail-in ballots were counted over the coming weeks, Brindisi's deficit was erased, and he trailed Tenney by just 100-200 votes, the Examiner noted.

 

That's when Oswego County state Supreme Court Justice Scott DelConte, a Democrat, intervened, reviewing "spoiled" ballots that had been initially rejected, which gave Brindisi the lead β€” by just 13 votes.

This judicial review has been fair, open, honest, and transparent and I remain confident that voters' voices will be heard," Brindisi said. Meanwhile, Tenney's campaign explained in a statement they essentially believe that voter fraud gave Brindisi the edge.

Baltimore County Public Schools Closed After Ransomware Attack on Computer Systems

 

According to my friends with kids and my friend who teaches, distance learning is a less than ideal experience. It’s super impersonal, occasionally chaotic and unsurprisingly, super vulnerable to hackers. Baltimore County Public Schools has learned that last part the hard way, as its schools are all currently shut down due to a ransomware attack.

 

According to the New York Times, classes for all 115,000 students in the district have been canceled since last Wednesday, when the district was first made aware of the attack. The attack targeted the district’s websites, programs used to facilitate remote learning, as well as email programs and programs used to help grading.

 

Basically, everything needed to keep a virtual school up and running.

 

The district elected for the first half of the 2020-21 school year to be done entirely through virtual learning as result of the ongoing pandemic. The school tweeted that Chromebooks issued by the BCPS and the students’ Google accounts are safe, with the attack mainly focusing on Windows devices. Jim Corns, the district’s executive director of information technology, has said that none of the district’s data appears to have been stolen, they’ve just been prevented from accessing it.

 

β€œThis is a ransomware attack which encrypts data as it sits and does not access or remove it from our system,” Corns said. β€œSo we are engaging this as a ransomware attack.”

 

Ransomware attacks generally involve a hacker locking access to a person’s data, and offering to restore access for a price. Hence, ransom.

 

Schools and local governments have become increasingly vulnerable to these attacks as they typically have a lot of personal information and not much in the way of comprehensive encryption and data security protocols.

 

The K-12 Cybersecurity Resource Center, an organization that tracks incidents related to cybersecurity in K-12 schools, reports that so far 44 school districts in the country have been victim to ransomware attacks; in 2018, the number was only 11.

Twitter user Code MonkeyZ posted video last night on Twitter and YouTube what is alleged to be Dominion workers using the internet and USBs to pass information between workers in Gwinnett County.

He downloads data from the Election Management Server onto a USB, inserts it into the external laptop, manipulates ballot scans in the file explorer, ejects the usb, palms it, distracts the people nearby, then suspiciously walks out of the room.

Attorney General Willam Barr then sent Berman a letter notifying him that President Trump agreed to fire him. Berman was in the middle of several investigations into the president and some of his associates, including his personal attorney Rudy Giuliani and former attorney Michael Cohen.

 

Berman told the House Judiciary Committee in July that Barr β€œrepeatedly urged” him to resign prior to his ouster.

 

β€œThe Attorney General said that if I did not resign from my position I would be fired," Berman told the panel. "He added that getting fired from my job would not be good for my resume or future job prospects. I told him that while I did not want to get fired, I would not resign."

 

One week after his testimony, he was hired to teach a course titled β€œProsecutorial Discretion and Ethical Duties in the Enforcement of Federal Criminal Law” at Stanford Law School in the fall 2020 term.

At his new job, Berman will represent individuals and corporations in white-collar cases, internal investigations and complex commercial litigation.

Brussels' public prosecutor said those caught at the party were "fined for failure to comply with health measures".

 

He added that Mr SzΓ‘jer had been spotted by a witness "fleeing along a gutter" on the outside of the building with "bloody hands".

 

In a statement it said police found drugs in his backpack, and narcotics charges are being prepared but the Parliament must waive his immunity first. Two other people who attended the party have also claimed diplomatic immunity, which the prosecutor's office is trying to get lifted. The penalty for breaching Covid rules is Β£225, which is less than the Β£280 a day stipend MEPs get just for turning up to their jobs. Several diplomats were also at the party, at which drugs were seized, according to local media.

 

Belgian euro MP Assita Kanko fumed: "Terribly inappropriate. The MEP present must certainly be punished. Everyone equal before the law." Ryanair made fun of the incident by advertising cheap seats for "a quick escape from Brussels". In a tweet the budget airline quipped: "In this case we don't recommend the window seat." An EU Parliament source said the MEP would not be helped by diplomatic immunity as it only covers legal issues related to his work. They added: "There is nothing wrong with participating in a sex party of any kind. "However, such kinds of meetings with many people are illegal under Belgian coronavirus laws."

 

A spokesman for the EU Parliament said the body hadn't yet been contacted by police about the incident.

Rowe Price director Edward Mathias brought together David Rubenstein, a former President Carter aide; Stephen Norris and Daniel D'Aniello, both executives with Marriott Corp.; William Conway, Jr., the CFO of MCI; and Greg Rosenbaum, a VP with a New York investment firm. Named after the Carlyle Hotel in New York, the firm opted to make Washington, DC, its headquarters, emphasising its close connection to the US government. In 1989 it wooed the well-connected Frank Carlucci, who had served as Ronald Reagan's secretary of defense, to join the group. Soon thereafter, Carlyle began making more high-profile deals. That year it acquired Coldwell Banker's commercial real estate operations (sold 1996) and Caterair International, Marriott's airline food services (sold 1995). Carlucci helped redirect the firm's focus to the downsizing defense industry. Among its targets were Harsco Corp. (1990), BDM International (1991), and LTV Corp.'s missile and aircraft units (1992). Carlyle helped overhaul their operations and make them attractive (for the right price) to the industry's elite, including Boeing and Lockheed Martin.

 

As the company's reputation grew, so did its cast of players. Among its new backers were James Baker and Richard Darman (both Reagan and Bush administration alums) and investor George Soros, who chipped in some $100 million into the Carlyle Partners L.P. buyout fund. With the help of its 'access capitalists' such as Baker and Saudi Prince al-Waleed bin Talal (whom the firm helped add to his fortune in a 1991 Citicorp stock transaction), Carlyle made deals in the Middle East and Western Europe (including a bailout of Euro Disney) in the mid-1990s.

 

While the firm continued to be a side in the iron triangle, acquiring such defense companies as aircraft castings maker Howmet in 1995, it picked up a grab bag of holdings, such as natural food grocer Fresh Fields Markets (1994; sold 1996); the quick turnaround helped build Carlyle's war chest. The firm also began investing in industrial-cleanup companies, seeing increased government spending as a major opportunity for profit.

 

As Carlyle's esteem rose, so did the number of its investors. In the late 1990s the firm launched buyout funds targeting Asia (closed 1999), Europe (closed 1998), Russia, and Latin America. At home, it faced a dwindling number of opportunities as the long-running bull market drove up prices and more investors chased fewer deals. Among those was its partnership with Cadbury Schweppes to buy the Dr Pepper Bottling Co. of Texas and merge it with its own American Bottling Co.

 

Carlyle began the new century by launching Carlyle Asset Management Group, selling its stake in Le Figaro to Socpresse, acquiring Rexnord and a majority stake in CSX Lines. Extending its reach, the company partnered with GMT Communications Partners and acquired Casema in 2003.
