Beto Announces Bid To Lose Texas Governor Race

AUSTIN, TX—Beto O’Rourke posted a video announcing his bid to enter, then lose the Texas race for Governor, marking the first high-profile candidate from the Democratic party guaranteed to get crushed by a gazillion votes.

WASHINGTON, D.C.—In a surprise press conference in D.C. today, Press Secretary Jen Psaki—completely out of the blue and for no apparent reason—announced that Kamala Harris is extremely likable and very good at her job and everything is just fine.

"I am proud to announce to you today that Vice President Harris is not unlikable in any way. She is also not terrible at her job," said Psaki. "That's all I really came up here to say. She also has a great relationship with President Biden. Oh, they laugh and talk for hours! Rep. Adam Schiff: ‘I don’t regret’ hyping discredited Steele dossier

Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., said Sunday he has no regrets about hyping the infamous dossier by former British intelligence officer Christopher Steele now that Special Counsel John Durham has further discredited the already debunked document.

Schiff, chair of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, had dramatically read some of the most explosive claims from the dossier into the Congressional Record during a March 2017 House Intelligence Committee hearing, including the now-debunked claim that the Trump 2016 presidential campaign colluded with Russia.

During an appearance on NBC News’ "Meet the Press" on Sunday, Schiff was confronted with some of his past claims hyping the validity of the dossier and was asked by host Chuck Todd whether he regrets "giving some credibility to the Steele dossier before anybody had been able to verify anything in it."

"I don't regret saying that we should investigate claims of someone who, frankly, was a well-respected British intelligence officer," Schiff responded. "And we couldn’t have known, of course, years ago that we would learn years later that someone who is a primary source lied to him."

"[Igor] Danchenko lied to Christopher Steele and then lied to the FBI," Schiff said. "He should be prosecuted. He is being prosecuted. And I'll tell you this, if he's convicted, he should not be pardoned the way Donald Trump pardoned people who lied to FBI agents, like Roger Stone and Mike Flynn. There ought to be the same standard in terms of prosecuting the liars. But I don't think there ought to be any pardon, no matter which way the lies cut."

Schiff made similar comments last week on ABC’s "The View," saying his team "couldn't have known" that Danchenko, the Russian analyst believed to have been the dossier's primary sub-source, had allegedly lied to Steele.

Durham, who was appointed by the Trump administration to investigate the origins of the Russia investigation, charged Danchenko earlier this month with making false statements to the FBI.

The 35-page dossier – controversially published in its raw form in 2017 by BuzzFeed News – alleged that former President Trump colluded with Russia to win the 2016 presidential election over Hillary Clinton and claimed that the Kremlin had blackmail material on the former president, including a tape of prostitutes urinating on him in a Moscow hotel.

The dossier, which has been thoroughly debunked, including by Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigation, served as the basis for Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) warrants against Trump campaign aide Carter Page, and it was originally commissioned by a research firm hired by Hillary Clinton's campaign lawyer Marc Elias.

Danchenko’s Nov. 3 arrest has prompted fresh criticism of the Democrats, including Schiff, who promoted the dossier as credible in recent years.

It’s amazing how these people leave with respect and adoration for me and others in the White House, but as soon as CNN or other cameras get shoved in their face, or the losers from the The View ask a question, or money gets thrown at them, or someone writes a fake book, inglorious lightweights like Farah change so quickly. I watched this clown on television saying exactly what they wanted her to say and I watched the lies. Was she paid by low-ratings CNN? By the way, as soon as the Crime of the Century happened on November 3rd, I knew the Election was Rigged and Stolen, and never changed my view on that one bit. I did not go soft on the “Real” Big Lie, the Election Scam, and never will. Backbencher said I told her I lost the Election—never did. I virtually never even spoke to Farah (it’s like she didn’t even exist in the White House). Anybody who ever says that I thought the Election was legit, even for a moment, is wrong. All you have to do is look at the thousands of pages of documents and evidence—which continues to mount.

Another week, another series of fumbling, mumbling and disasters. How low can Joe Biden go?

Once again, the common theme was weakness. At home and abroad, he is shrinking the presidency before our eyes.

The diminished commander in chief visited his party members in Congress Thursday and was reduced to pleading for them to save his bacon.

“The House and Senate majorities and my presidency will be determined by what happens next week,” he confessed to Democrats.

It was an extraordinary moment for a president, the ostensible leader of his party, but in reality this one is a beggar-in-chief. His focus was on the fate of two massive pieces of legislation, worth $3 trillion combined, even though the larger of the two hadn’t been written and major issues, including whose taxes would be raised, were still hotly disputed.

Nonetheless, with his job approval tanking and needing anything he could call a victory, especially at the Scotland climate summit, the president was desperate for signs of progress. Even a mere promise that both bills would eventually be passed would have been something he could boast about.

Instead, he got the back of Sen. Bernie Sanders’ hand.

After Biden’s closed-door meeting and a public statement in which he tried to portray progress by citing a sketchy “framework” for the social spendathon, which includes $550 billion worth of climate projects, the real power emerged from the shadows. Sanders, the Vermont socialist, flatly rejected the president’s request to pass the separate infrastructure deal first and urged his fellow travelers in the House to say no, which they promptly did.

So the man who is supposed to be the leader of the free world cannot even lead his own party, meaning Biden headed for Europe bearing nothing except embarrassment.

On Friday in Rome, he was again the pleader-in-chief, this time seeking forgiveness from French President Emmanuel Macron after a rupture in relations over a nuclear submarine deal in which Australia backed out of a deal with France and switched to one with the US and Great Britain.

The deal enraged France and hurt Macron politically just months before an April election. Video showed Biden looking like a scolded, sheepish child as he called events around the Australian deal “clumsy” and confessed he was not up to speed when the deal was announced.

So if the president isn’t up to speed on major events involving key allies, who is up to speed and, most important, who is making the decisions?

Weakness here, weakness there, weakness everywhere. Even live coverage of Biden’s meeting with the pope was canceled by Vatican TV, with a few minutes airing later. Why not show the whole thing?

In both meetings, Biden was maskless, a rare sight when he is in the United States. Is the rule follow the science, or when in Rome . . . ?

If that were all, the week would have been trouble enough. But Friday brought a disaster of another sort in the form of a report on the administration’s plan to pay up to $1 billion to illegal migrant families separated at the border by the Trump administration. The Wall Street Journal scoop was so outlandish I first thought it had to be a mistake or a pre-Halloween prank because something so fundamentally stupid can’t possibly be true.

But of course the report is true and as such reveals two other disturbing aspects of the Biden presidency: arrogance and incompetence.

There is no rational way to explain the mere existence of settlement talks with lawyers from the American Civil Liberties Union, which is representing the migrants, and the fact the talks were held in secret, then leaked. Perhaps the aim was to complete the deal, then treat it as a fait accompli at an announcement.

Whatever the plan, the idea is nuts on so many levels, including that it offers yet another clear signal to the cartels and people smugglers to keep bringing their caravans north.

Uncle Sap doesn’t just open his border, he also opens his wallet!

Sen. Tom Cotton got it right in a tweet: “It’s unthinkable to pay a burglar who broke into your home for the ‘psychological trauma’ they endured during the crime,” the Arkansas Republican wrote. “Yet the Biden admin wants to reward migrants who illegally entered our country with up to $450,000 each for just that reason. Insanity.”

Others, including Texas GOP Rep. Dan Crenshaw, who lost an eye in combat in Afghanistan, noted that the families of American service members killed in the line of duty receive an insurance payment of $400,000.

The migrant payment is hard to swallow, as is so much else that Biden is dishing out these days. The sheer volume of inanity and failure, combined with the president’s mental and physical decline, recalls a wise observation by the late economist Herb Stein that, “If something cannot go on forever, it will stop.”

It’s a hopeful thought, but doesn’t tell us how this disaster of a presidency will stop and when. Though it feels like forever, we are still in the first year of Biden’s term. And while he has been busy shrinking the presidency and avoiding the press, Vice President Kamala Harris has pulled a total disappearing act.

Perhaps America can go on like this for four years. But I don’t see how.

A friend, in what seems a dispatch from another planet, recounts a Manhattan experience: “Last Friday, I head downtown on the #1 local to visit a pal. Subway doors open (last car, middle doors) I count five people, all male on right side.

“On the left side, a big guy is sprawled on the floor, navy T-shirt, black slacks, does not look homeless. Blood on the subway seat, he’s face down, pants and underwear down, blood coming out of his nether areas. I check to see if he’s alive, shallow breathing, can’t rouse him.

“Even in the ’70s I never saw stuff like this. But no one gave a &^%$. The five passengers were looking at their phones, earbuds in, ignoring this insane scene.

“I try to see if there’s a conductor, can’t find any, run towards the front of the train. At Christopher St, I got out and looked to see if there’s a manned ticket booth, no, then across the street, no.

“So I walk towards the sixth Pct. and go in and tell a nice officer what happened. Her comment to me was ‘I’m sorry you had to see that.’ ”

Yeah, such is life in New York.”
