Beijing has managed what was thought impossible, to create an effective firewall, shielding the country from the majority of news sources in the outside world and limiting their citizens to news approved by the Communist Party only. The Great Firewall, named so as a joke, has become a reality.

 

The Chinese Great Firewall has become so effective that other countries are asking for their help. Chinese Internet censorship experts are currently employed by Russia, Uganda, and many other countries, looking to achieve similar results.

 

Freedom House report confirms this. β€œA cohort of countries is moving toward digital authoritarianism by embracing the Chinese model of extensive censorship and automated surveillance systems,” Freedom House report states.

 

Lu Kang, the spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, vehemently denied the report’s findings, claiming they β€œare sheer fabrications.”

The carrier target itself appears to be a flat surface without the carrier’s island, aircraft lifts, weapons sponsons or other details, the imagery from Maxar shows. On radar, the outline of the carrier stands out from the surrounding desert – not unlike a target picture, according to imagery provided to USNI News by Capella Space.

 

There are two more target areas representing an aircraft carrier that do not have the metaling, but are distinguishable as carriers due to their outline. But other warship targets appear to be more elaborate. There are numerous upright poles positioned on them, possibly for instrumentation, according to the imagery. Alternatively these may be used for radar reflectors to simulate the superstructure of the vessel.

 

The facility also has an extensive rail system. An Oct. 9 image from Maxar showed a 75 meter-long target with extensive instrumentation on a 6 meter-wide rail.

I'm a vet that has been through 7 yesrs of intense PTSD treatment, and have been taught to manage my PTSD.

There is a new protocol called TMS that really helped me get rid of my depression and that allowed me to begin processing my grief.

I should have a clean bill of health from the VA in a bit, which will help me out in the long run in life.

Pope Francis addresses church sex scandals

 

Pope Francis took time over the weekend to praise the β€œmission” of journalists and thank them for exposing the church’s sex scandals and helping to keep from being β€œswept under the carpet.”

 

During a Saturday ceremony honoring two correspondents who have long covered the Vatican, the Pope directly approached the Catholic Church’s history with clerical sexual abuse scandals. He thanked the journalists for β€œwhat you tell us about what is wrong in the church” and for the β€œvoice” given to abuse victims.

 

Sexual abuse scandals within the church were first exposed in a widescale level by The Boston Globe in a series of stories in 2002, detailing alleged acts of sexual abuse as well as efforts to conceal those acts from the public.

 

Pope Francis has addressed sexual abuse crimes and allegations within the church in the past, saying last month he feels β€œshame” over the church’s β€œinability” to properly deal with the situation for so long. His comments came after the release of an independent report claiming there were over 200,000 cases of pedophilia and abuse within the church since 1950.

 

On Saturday, Pope Francis had more than just praise for journalists, as he also offered advice, urging modern-day reporters to experience life through more than a computer screen. To β€œexplain the world” and make it β€œless obscure,” journalists must not be β€œfearful” of actual life and β€œescape the tyranny” of constantly being online.

 

β€œNot everything can be told through email, the phone, or a screen,” the Pope said, adding at another point that journalists need to look at those around them with β€œgreat awareness and also with more confidence.”

Former Afghani finance minister, Khalid Payenda, says that most of the 300,000 Afghan troops never existed, and were in fact "ghost" solders who were fabricated by corrupt officials who then pocketed their wages, according to the BBC.

 

So - corrupt Afghan officials lied about their fighting force, while US President Joe Biden was pressuring former Afghan president Ashraf Ghani to lie about the US pullout and say that the Taliban wasn't winning "whether it is true or not." Ghani refused to lie, and the rest is history - the Taliban spread throughout the country like wildfire and toppled the government within a matter of days.

 

"The way the accountability was done, you would ask the chief in that province how many people you have and based on that you could calculate salaries and ration expenses and they would always be inflated," the former finance minister told BBC's Ed Butler.

 

The former minister said the numbers may have been inflated by more than six times, and included "desertions [and] martyrs who were never accounted for because some of the commanders would keep their bank cards" and withdraw their salaries, he alleged.

 

There have long been questions over Afghan troop numbers.

 

A 2016 report by the US Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (Sigar) claimed that "neither the United States nor its Afghan allies know how many Afghan soldiers and police actually exist, how many are in fact available for duty, or, by extension, the true nature of their operational capabilities". -BBC

 

More recently, Sigar expressed "serious concerns about the corrosive effects of corruption… and the questionable accuracy of data on the actual strength of the force."

 

Ex-finance minister Payenda, meanwhile, said the 'ghost' soldiers were often not paid on time, while leaders of government-backed militias frequently 'double-dipped' by taking both a government wage, and accepting bribes from the Taliban to give up without a fight.

 

"The whole feeling was, we cannot change this. This is how the parliament works, this is how the governors work. Everybody would say the stream is murky from the very top, meaning the very top is involved in this," he said, adding that while he didn't think former President Ghani was "financially corrupt," that there were definitely accusations of corruption within the finance ministry.

 

In closing, Payenda said that the West was "part of" some of the failures within the country, and that the United States and NATO's involvement was a "great opportunity lost."

BotenaGo, written in Google’s Golang programming language, can exploit more than 30 different vulnerabilities.

 

Newly surfaced malware that is difficult to detect and written in Google’s open-source programming language has the potential to exploit millions of routers and IoT devices, researchers have found.

 

Discovered by researchers at AT&T AlienLabs, BotenaGo can exploit more than 30 different vulnerabilities to attack a target, Ofer Caspi, a security researcher at Alien Labs, wrote in a blog post published Thursday.

 

The malware, which is written in Golangβ€”a language Google first published in 2007–works by creating a backdoor to the device. It then waits to either receive a target to attack from a remote operator through port 19412 or from another related module running on the same machine, he wrote.

Uh, no. It's reflective of the times when a person grew up and they environment they live in.

 

The F word is common place, everyone was a "fag" or "gay" and it actually protected many of us as children because if you laid a hand on one of us as an adult you were a "fucking gay faggot" and people get out of your personal space in a jiffy when you say things like that.
