The cabal needed the opium from the Afghanistan poppy fields. OS X tries to turn on every mic connector so that Siri will work. I use 2 Apple Cinema displays connected to my 2013 Mac Pro. I've left 1 camera enabled for Skype with tape over it, but I've unplugged the microphone connector. If I WANT a microphone, I'll plug in my headset.

 

The glass simply pulls off as it's held by magnets.

 

Remove 10 screws holding the LCD and carefully lift it up to expose the circuit board below. Unplug as you see fit.

– Have certain flaws that can cause them to misfire in sometimes comical ways

– The handlers can make bogus clown threads, but also can be confused by accidental ones

The Law Versus Judge Lyris Younge

Room 5A of the Philadelphia Family Court is one of those places parental rights go to die. Or it would be, if presiding judge Lyris Younge had her way.

 

“She has the capacity to be a good judge,” one lawyer who has served before her told The Legal Intelligencer for a recent article, “but she has these bad days where she takes it out on the families.”

 

Since being elected to the bench in 2016, Younge has led all judges in the court’s dependency division in the number of cases appealed, with 156. Of these, 79 have been closed (decided), and 8 have been at least partially overturned. That 10% may not sound like much, but it dwarfs the second highest rate of reversal, which is 2 cases out of 112, or only 1.8%.

 

And if a similar 10% rate applied to all of Judge Younge’s cases including those who couldn’t afford to appeal, that would affect thousands of families.

 

Significantly, half of Younge’s overturned cases involve due process: she didn’t just make a mistaken ruling; she denied them a fair trial at all.

 

A Bathroom Break Bars a Mom from the Courtroom

In one of Younge’s earliest cases, a mother became physically ill and had to run to the nearest bathroom before her attorney could ask for a recess. In retaliation, the judge refused to let her back into the courtroom. The case became the first overturned on appeal.

 

“[T]he trial court violated the mother’s constitutional guarantee to due process when it precluded her from the opportunity to be heard,” the appellate court declared.

Judge Refuses to Hear Evidence; Seeks to Separate Parents and Child

Yet another decision was reversed on appeal earlier this month, marking at least Younge’s ninth reversal in just over two years.

 

In In the Interest of N.M., the parents of a baby girl for two years jumped through every hoop set before them to try to get their daughter returned, only to have Judge Younge change the permanency goal from reunification to termination of parental rights, then grant the termination.

 

N. M. was only seven months old when she was removed from her parents’ care on a suspicion of abuse. She was found to have broken ribs which a “pediatrician with a concentration in child abuse cases” testified was from “non-accidental trauma.” Both parents consistently denied any knowledge of how the trauma could have occurred. Unfortunately for them, innocence was not an option.

 

Judge Younge was quoted in the appeals case: “either someone has to cop to [the abuse] or there has to be a plausible explanation…. Until we get some closure about how this happened, we’re not going to get beyond this.”

 

As to whether the parents could present expert medical testimony suggesting other possible causes for the injuries besides neglect, Younge assured the parents, “I would allow a doctor to testify today. I would. I would. I absolutely would.”

 

Yet the appeals court noted, “The court again refused to accept from Attorney Freeman the reports and curriculum vitae of two doctors regarding a non-abusive explanation for N.M.’s injuries.”

 

The family jumped through every hoop, but their effort availed them nothing. The judge “[found] that the parents are fully compliant. It doesn’t move the needle for me.”

 

On appeal, the court reversed Judge Younge’s decision to terminate the parents’ rights or even to change the permanency goal to termination. But they didn’t stop there.

 

“We find ourselves constrained to comment as follows,” Justice Lazarus wrote for the court.

 

“[D]espite record evidence that the trial court allegedly relied upon, the one factor, the elephant in the room, is that the trial judge was and remains the cause of the deteriorated bond between Parents and N.M. in this matter.

 

“The record is replete with attempts by Parents to meet the goals set by the trial judge, however she continued to put up barriers to reunification….

 

“In short, despite the goals of Child Protective Services Law, the trial judge seems to have done everything in her power to alienate these parents from their child, appears to have a fixed idea about this matter and, further, she prohibited evidence to be introduced that might have forced her to change her opinion.

 

“While this court must take and does take the issue of abuse of a child very seriously, the fact that a trial judge tells parents that unless one of them ‘cops to an admission of what happened to the child’ they are going to lose their child, flies in the face of not only the CPSL[aw], but of the entire body of case law with regard to the best interests of the child and family reunification.” [emphasis added]

 

Our hope, and clearly that of the superior court, is that Judge Younge will give the parents a fair shake moving forward. We would add the hope that one day soon this little girl will be safely returned to the parents who love her, who have put everything on hold for two years to satisfy a judge who simply would not be satisfied.

 

Needed: Good Laws and Good Judges

We’ve said it time and again: to get good results, we have to have good judges and good laws. Our efforts to present policymakers with model legislation that will aid families, including a Parental Rights Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, arises from this understanding. We work to provide the best possible laws not only to preserve the vital right of parents to defend their families, but to rein in judges whenever we can.

Charles Shoebridge, security analyst and former UK counter terrorism intelligence officer, said: “It may not be the end of it, but the blame for cancelling the meeting should surely go to the person who has actually cancelled it."

 

“Trump and the US are saying that the condition of, not the talks, but the success for talks is that North Korea should disarm in a nuclear sense. And it really does seem that is very unlikely to happen. And a reason for that is the record of the US behavior and its allies’ behavior in the wake of other countries disarming,” Shoebridge cited Iraq and Libya as examples.

The Chechen parliament has drafted a bill in the State Duma that, if passed, would allow Vladimir Putin and all future Russian presidents to remain in office for three consecutive terms instead of the current two.

 

Russian laws allow regional legislatures to draft federal laws and earlier this month the legislative assembly of the Chechen Republic unanimously voted in favor of the decision to prepare and submit a bill that would allow the same person to remain president more than twice in a row. When presenting the motion the chairman of the assembly, Magomed Daudov, emphasized that it did not diminish the democratic foundations of the Russian state but allowed citizens to better determine their future.

 

Currently, the Russian constitution allows the same person to run for the presidency for an unlimited number of terms on one condition – there can be no more than two consecutive terms. In 1998, the issue was brought before the Russian Constitutional Court, which ruled that the third and fourth terms would be legal if there is a break between the second and third terms. This is why Putin could not run for president in 2008 after winning in 2000 and 2004. In 2012, the condition regarding consecutive terms was not applicable, so Putin ran again and won.

 

In April this year the head of the Chechen Republic, Ramzan Kadyrov, called for legislative changes that would allow Putin to be re-elected president after his current term expires in 2024.

 

“As long as our incumbent president is in good health we must not think about any other head of state. This is my personal opinion and I am not changing it. Right now there is no alternative to Putin,” Kadyrov was quoted as saying by Interfax. He added that this could be done through a nationwide referendum and that in his opinion there was no need to ask for Putin’s consent over the issue.

 

The Chechen leader noted that many other nations do well without this type of restriction. “Why can China do this and Germany can do this, but not us? If this is in the people’s interest, why can’t we make changes to the law?” he said.

 

Some federal lawmakers have already supported the proposal. Deputy head of Fair Russia caucus, MP Mikhail Yemelyanov, told Interfax that his party colleagues also think that the limit on two consecutive presidential terms should be lifted.

 

Others, like deputy chair of the Upper House legislative committee Senator Yelena Afanasyeva, opposed the motion saying that it was wrong to change the constitution on a whim. Afanasyeva recalled that Vladimir Putin himself had repeatedly spoke against any constitutional changes that would prolong his time in office.

 

“If the Chechen parliamentarians think that such changes are of vital importance they should initiate a nationwide referendum on the issue,” she added.

 

In the first reaction to the Chechen move, Putin’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov said that the president did not have the issue of changing the constitutional law on the presidency on his agenda and added that the leader had repeatedly expressed his negative position over changes to the constitution.

 

In one of the most recent statements, done in an interview with the NBC television in March this year, Putin said that he had never changed the constitution and had no intention to do so in future.

'Optimistic' Jim Mattis drops some 'very good news' about Trump-Kim summit

 

Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis echoed sentiments made by President Trump Friday and told reporters he is "very optimistic" that U.S. and North Korean officials will soon meet back at the negotiating table in regards to the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.

DHS to cancel Obama-era foreign investor immigration program

 

The Trump administration moved Friday to officially revoke an Obama-era program designed to entice foreign entrepreneurs to move to the U.S. to invest their cash in businesses here, saying the previous administration overstepped its powers.

 

The revocation, if it becomes final, would be yet another blow to President Obama’s attempts to rewrite the immigration system by executive fiat — a policy that also included the DACA deportation amnesty for illegal immigrant “Dreamers,” a broader prohibition on deportations of most illegal immigrants, and new programs to allow more people to enter legally.

 

The International Entrepreneur program fell into that latter category, with Mr. Obama intending it to be another way for foreign businessmen to skip the usual immigration process and gain a foothold in the U.S.

 

But Homeland Security now says it no longer believes the program is legal.

 

“DHS is now proposing to eliminate the IE Final Rule because the department believes that it represents an overly broad interpretation of parole authority, lacks sufficient protections for U.S. workers and investors, and is not the appropriate vehicle for attracting and retaining international entrepreneurs,” the department said in a statement.

 

Officials said wealthy investors already have other avenues of entering the U.S., such as the EB-5 visa, dubbed the “golden visa” because it lets people willing to invest at least $500,000 get a speedy path to citizenship.

 

The Obama administration had claimed it was using its “parole” authority to create the program. Under the law, the Homeland Security secretary can parole someone into the U.S., which usually also gives them work authorization, for a specific humanitarian or other important public benefits.

 

The law doesn’t define public benefit, but the Obama administration said it read it to cover having foreign entrepreneurs gain a foothold in the U.S. The rule required they prove they could attract investment in their businesses.

 

The level of investment was fairly low — just 10 percent of companies with as little as $250,000 in capital would have been enough to qualify. Startups had to show they created at least five jobs in order for investors to get a renewal of their parole. Those here under the program would not have been allowed to adjust their status to legal permanent residency, officials insisted.

 

But the Trump administration said it was still a misuse of parole authority, which has generally been seen as a case-by-case decision, not a categorical grant.

 

Homeland Security first moved to delay the program last July, but a federal judge said they cut too many corners. In December he ordered them to get it up and running.

FBI issues warning on hacking group with Russian ties

 

The FBI on Friday issued a formal warning about a Russian hacking campaign and asked consumers to reboot their network devices to disrupt malicious software that has already compromised “hundreds of thousands” of personal devices.

 

A bonnet known as “VPNFilter” is being used to target routers in homes and offices across the country, the FBI said.

 

“The FBI recommends any owner of small office and home office routers reboot the devices to temporarily disrupt the malware and aid the potential identification of infected devices,” the public alert said.

 

“Owners are advised to consider disabling remote management settings on devices and secure with strong passwords and encryption when enabled. Network devices should be upgraded to the latest available versions of firmware,” the alert continued.

 

Internet security researchers said Thursday the VPNFilter has infected an estimated 500,000 consumer routers worldwide.

 

The same security experts have inked the malware to APT 28 also known as Sofacy, a cyberterrorism group with ties to the Russian government.

 

A blog post from Cisco’s cyberintelligence unit, Talos, said known devices that have been infected by the VPNFilter malware include manufacturers Linksys, MikroTik, Netgear and TP-Link.

 

The malware allows hackers to take make a router unusable, cutting off Internet access, Talos said.

 

The Justice Department on Wednesday announced efforts to disrupt a global bonnet targeting the government, military and security organizations.

 

“These hackers are exploiting vulnerabilities and putting every American’s privacy and network security at risk,” FBI Special Agent in Charge Bob Johnson said in a statement.

Sen. Ben Cardin said Friday that President Trump has thrown diplomacy with North Korea “off track.”

I wonder because so many fundamental indo-european words are so close to SEMITIC words, almost as if indo-european languages started as creole dialects around the trader's settlements (gorod in Russian, kort in Aramaic)

 

And there were so many Germans involved in the early days of the indo-european theory, that I have to ask myself, were they trying to cover up the fact that German originates when Turkic speaking people tried to incorporate Iranian/Persian vocabulary in their languages? Which is what would happen when a turkic tribe and an iranian one had a military alliance. The Khazar empire being the result of these inter-ethnic alliances in the Siberian steppe.
