PROVO β€” Utah County Attorney David Leavitt is heading to Ukraine to help an anonymous donor select 500 families to support for an entire year.

 

"He wants to be generous, but he doesn't necessarily want the credit for it," Leavitt said.

 

Finding 500 families to support

To help with this generous donation, Leavitt will be on the ground in Ukraine trying to identify those 500 families. Once the families are identified, Leavitt says Visa gift cards will be provided to each family for immediate financial assistance until bank accounts can be set up.

 

"Really what we're trying to do is humanize what's going on in people's lives," he said.

 

Leavitt is more than familiar with the war-torn country; it's almost a home away from home of sorts for Leavitt and his wife. For 14 years (2004 to 2018), they worked in legal reform efforts in Ukraine as part of The Leavitt Institute for International Development.

 

"Our role was to teach the jury trial and American criminal law in 35 law schools throughout Ukraine and Moldova," Leavitt said.

Yes, actually it does have that ability. Pretty sure everyone else's does too.

Awhile back anon had an out of body experience that shook my entire outlook of how things work.

While I was in that state I was aware of myself being out of body, I could see myself outside of the body.

A former senior Scots lawyer has been convicted of historical sex abuse against four children.

 

John Watt QC was hauled back to Scotland from America to face justice after preying on three girls and a boy over 14 years in the 1970s and 80s. A number of the victims had relatives who were also legal figures at the time.

 

The attacks happened at different properties in Edinburgh's New Town and Leith, as well as another in the West End of the capital. Watt, now 72, was extradited in 2020 from Oklahoma in the United States, having moved there in the mid-90s with his wife.

 

He denied the crimes during a trial at the High Court in Glasgow pinning the blame on a now dead lawyer for attacks on one girl. But, Watt was today found guilty of a total of five charges spanning between 1973 and 1987.

 

He was convicted of raping one girl. Watt was further guilty of lewd and libidinous behaviour against the same victim, another girl and a boy. He was also guilty of indecently assaulting a third girl.

 

The shamed former advocate showed no emotion as he was remanded in custody pending sentencing next month. Watt often worked and mingled with a number of leading names in the Scottish legal world at the time.

 

The female rape victim told how her father - who was also a lawyer - took her to see Watt at a house in Edinburgh. Prosecutors said she was aged seven when the abuse began.

 

She recalled being given an "instruction" by her dad before being left alone with Watt. Prosecutor Kath Harper asked what then happened. The now 55 year-old replied: "I did things to the man which he made me do."

 

She told jurors how she was raped on two occasions and Watt told her she was a "good girl". Watt's legal team had lodged a special defence incriminating another lawyer for the crimes against this victim.

 

But, shown a photo of this man, the woman insisted he was not the person who attacked her. Two sisters - now in their 50s - told the trial how their lawyer father often hosted gathering at their home where Watt and others would turn up.

 

One recalled being in bed during a social event there and woke up to find Watt at her bedside. She said: β€œI think he said something about being cold or tired… and got into my bed."

 

This victim said she was facing away from the door when Watt inappropriately touched her. The witness added: β€œI have a lawyer in [my] bed, but you think something is happening which is not right.”

 

Her sister had saw Watt in the bed for around 10 minutes. She remembered being "frightened" and moved to turn away. But, the preying advocate then turned on her putting his hand under her bed clothes.

 

The woman sobbed as she described being molested for "what felt like 10 minutes." She claimed that she did not tell her parents what happened to her the next morning despite her sister speaking to them about her attack.

 

Jurors were read a statement from their dad, who has since passed away. He said he had reported Watt to a senior lawyer, who later became a high court judge, instead of police at the time.

 

Jurors were also read an undated letter from Watt to the sisters' dad in which he "apologised unreservedly…for any distress caused." Watt's final victim told how he was aged 10 when the advocate had been asked to look after him while his parents were away.

 

But, the now 45 year-old told Miss Harper: "I was raped by John Watt. I remember him coming in the room and I remember him telling me to turn over."

 

Asked how long the attack lasted, the witness replied: "Honestly, I do not know. I have played it over in my mind 100,000 times. I know it was something I did not want."

 

After the abuse, Watt gave up law in Scotland and set up a new life in Oklahoma in 1995, working at his wife's real estate agency.

But justice caught him up with him, when a police probe lead to him being extradited back to Scotland in 2020. From once regularly appearing in the well of a courtroom, he instead stood in the dock of Edinburgh Sheriff Court in October of that year to face the charges.

 

Watt had been living at flat in Glasgow city centre during the trial. He claimed in his evidence that he had "never seen" the female rape victim, had "no recollection" of the incidents with the young sisters and had never been in sole charge of the boy.

 

Defence QC Donald Findlay had asked for Watt to remain on bail pending sentencing.

 

However, judge Lord Braid told Watt: "You have been convicted of very serious offences and a custodial sentence is inevitable. Bail will be withdrawn and you will be remanded in custody."

 

He will be sentenced on August 8 in Edinburgh.

Many of the so-called health experts and political leaders in Australia admitted the goal was to make life almost unlivable for the unvaccinated, which was multiplied many times by the collective mob, with the fight taken into workplaces, friendships, and family gatherings.

Park escaped in 2007 when she was 13; it was a long and treacherous journey to China, Mongolia, South Korea and then to the United States in 2014. "I escaped North Korea when I was 13 years old… And that journey led me to become trafficked in China and sold as a child sex wife… Currently, I'm right now actually fighting for freedom even in America."

"A lot of people in America who are born into freedom, they never had to fight for their freedom… I had to fight for freedom… I fought for it… So I think it gives me unique perspective and unique appreciation for what I have here," she said.

Park added that Ibram X. Kendi's antiracist socialism, whose concepts are taught in many U.S. schools, terrifies her. She recalls how North Koreans gave up their land and rights for the sake of equality and ended up getting nothing in return.

"This is where it keeps me up at night. I never knew that I was going to be waking up at night and terrified being in America. I did that tons of nights in North Korea and China," she said.

"The definition of socialism means giving all the power to the government – they decide the means of production. They despise every aspect of our lives… In North Korea, they say, 'Okay, we're going to make sure everybody is equal… So give us all your land.' So we gave the regime all the land, so they abolish[ed] private property. Nobody could own anything. State owns it. And that is when they took everything, did not give anything back to us. Total amount of solar energy deployed

The financial need of the state or local government

The city of Tracy will be allowed to purchase a 200-acre tract of land from the federal government to build a solar energy project after a bill passed giving the stalled deal the green light.

As of 6/1/22, Maps has visited Uvalde, TX, at least five times: Feb 2008, April 2011, July 2019, December 2021, and May 2022 (no later than 6/1/22, time of this Google Maps review). One of the things you can see on the street view is the date when the image was taken. As of 6/1/22, if you "walk" down the streets around Robb Elementary, two time lines of interest emerge: December 2021 and May 2022.

 

December 2021 sees an isolated path taken amidst earlier mapping (primarily April 2011 time line).

 

  • The mapping appears to start and stop within a collection of older street view mappings.

  • The path of the streets view pass three points of interest: the funeral home, the place where the truck was wrecked, and side of Robb Elementary where the shooter was purported to have entered the building.

  • The December 2021 path goes around the elementary school (North and East sides), segments terminating at the edge of the parking lots.

  • Can't say for certain, but the December 2021 path appears to terminate into a May 2022 path, US Hwy 83.

  • While it cannot be immediately known when the May 2022 was created, it was done at latest by the time of the shooting.

 

As of 6/5/22, something unusual occurs.

 

  • If you traverse the North and East sides of the school in Google Maps, the dates are all now May 2022, whereas before they where April 2011.

  • A new May 2022 route now exists, having one segment in common: North side of Robb Elementary, two blocks from Perez St. to Old Carrizo Rd.

  • The new route (May 2022) starts in the same place as the earlier route (December 2021): Evans St., sharp left back on Nicolas St. (runs parallel to drainage ditch, same one car crashed into), turns right onto Geraldine.

 

What're the odds a certain company sends out a car twice in one month to remap the same segment of road? Why map this in May, same month as the shooting, when you've already mapped the main drag earlier in the same month, not re-map side roads, and when they'd already captured those streets in December, six months earlier?? Spanish operation takes down police and customs officers helping ship cocaine and hashish into Europe

 

With the support of Europol’s European Financial and Economic Crime Centre, the Spanish Civil Guard (Guardia Civil) and National Police (PolicΓ­a Nacional) have dismantled a drugs trafficking network which allegedly relied on corrupt law enforcement and customs officers to ship hundreds of millions of euros’ worth of cocaine and hashish into Western Europe.

 

A total of 61 individuals were arrested for their involvement in this criminal operation, including five officers from the Civil Guard, one from the National Police and one from customs, who were identified thanks to the collaboration with Europol and Eurojust.

 

These arrests follow an 18-month long investigation into two criminal gangs, known as β€˜Clan de Tanger’ and β€˜Clan del Sur’, who are believed to have smuggled over 16 tonnes of cocaine and 150 tonnes of hashish via the Strait of Gibraltar into Spain for further distribution across Europe. The drugs were hidden among shipments of tomatoes, watermelons and melons. The criminal group dismantled is considered to be the most active network operating around the Port of Algeciras.

 

The corrupt law enforcement and customs officers were paid by the criminal organisation to make sure that the drugs were not intercepted as they were smuggled in the Spanish port of Algeciras.

 

In the frame of the investigation, the Spanish authorities conducted 34 raids which led to:

 

The arrest of 61 individuals, including 7 under European Arrest Warrants issued by other countries;

The seizure of 26 properties valued at over EUR 3 million;

The seizure of 17 vehicles valued at over EUR 400 000;

The seizure in cash of over EUR 1 million;

The seizure of over 83 tonnes of hashish and 9 tonnes of cocaine.

 

Europol’s European Financial and Economic Crime Centre supported the investigation by providing actionable intelligence and analytical support. On 11 May 2022, two Europol teams were deployed to Spain on the action day to facilitate the extensive exchange of information and provide forensic support for the seized electronic devices.

 

Cases such as this one involving law enforcement and customs officers show how much corruption has infiltrated society. In its 2021 Serious Organised Crime Threat Assessment, Europol highlighted that over 60 % of criminal groups in the EU engage in corruption, making it a key threat to be addressed in the fight against serious organised crime.

Indiana town cancels drag show advertised as 'family-friendly' after one post from Libs of TikTok

 

The popular "Libs of TikTok" account caused the cancellation of a drag show in Jasper, Indiana, that was advertised as "family-friendly."

 

The drag show was a part of an event dubbed as "Pride in the Park" and organized by the Dubois County Pride committee in conjunction with the city of Jasper.

 

Libs of TikTok posted a screenshot of the advertisement from the group and noted that they encouraged children of all ages to attend, and also asked for everyone to bring money to give to the drag show performers.

 

The tweet garnered nearly a thousand retweets and more than 3.6k likes on Twitter.

 

On Wednesday, the group announced in a Facebook post that the drag show was cancelled.

 

"We regretfully announce that due to safety and security concerns, the family-friendly drag performance planned for Pride in the Park has been cancelled," read the statement.

 

"This decision was jointly made by the City of Jasper, ONE- Dubois County, and the Dubois County Pride committee," the statement continued. "While the Dubois County Pride committee is disappointed by this development, we are in no way deterred. Our mission to promote and advocate love and equality remains steadfast."

The current world financial monetary system are outdated and the new one must be installed to solve end the world conflict about economy between nations/groups/people.

There will be 2 type of currency money type in the new system: international currency and local domestic currency.

  • Local domestic currency will be issued and managed by the local winning political party in each state/city/zone.

 

International currency features:

 

– Only allow using for international cross border transactions between nations.

 

– Will have several versions for each continent such as Asia, Europe, Africa, Americas.

 

– Or could have direct asset currencies such as oil, gas, gold, silver, etc.

 

– The exchange rate between each of them and vs the local domestic currency will based on real supply demand law.

 

Local domestic currency features:

 

– The local winning political party will have absolutely full power to print/issue that money.

 

– Only allowed to using in small location depend on the agreement between each groups/parties.

 

– The exchange rate between each local domestic currency either free flow or via some agreement/treaty between each winning political party.

 

– People, group, entities from around the world are free to create their own unique currency.

 

There should be 1 new international system for international cross border money transfer beside the current SWIFT system one.

 

With above system, the world conflict between nations will be transfer from big scale to small scale .

 

There will be many local domestic currencies based on various ideology from language, culture, history, races to daily life ideology for sure such as Republican dollar vs Democratic dollar in the USA, Manchu note vs Han notes in China, Tamil rupee vs Sankrit rupee in India, etc.

AN SNP council leader has resigned after being accused of sexual misconduct.

 

Jordan Linden yesterday apologised for his behaviour at a party in 2019 - accepting that he caused β€œa sense of discomfort”.

 

In a statement, the Nat councillor also cited concerns for his own mental health.

 

Mr Linden became head of North Lanarkshire council with a Β£45,000 salary just two months ago.

 

But, at the weekend, it was revealed that he had been accused of making unwanted sexual advances towards a young activist at a party in Dundee following a gay pride march.

 

Following publication of the story, the SNP insisted there had been no complaint made about Mr Linden.

 

However, yesterday the 27-year-old announced he would stand down as North Lanarkshire Council leader - but remain on as a councillor.

 

In a lengthy statement, Mr Linden said: β€œAlthough I have never approached any personal interaction with ill intent, I accept that my behaviour at that party in 2019 caused a sense of discomfort which I entirely regret.

 

β€œI offered my apologies to the person concerned at the time and the matter was closed.

 

β€œI reiterate that apology today. And in all that’s been said in recent days, the empathetic words from that individual have given me the most reassurance.”

 

Mr Linden claimed press coverage of the allegations had put β€œimmense strain” on him personally and had β€œseriously affected” his mental health.

 

He added: β€œIt has been the privilege of my life to serve in this role, and I remain proud that I was able to lead the Scottish National Party to administration in North Lanarkshire for the first time.

 

β€œI intend to continue to represent the people of Bellshill to the very best of my ability as a councillor, as I have done since first being elected in 2017. The privilege of representing my home town continues to be incredibly special to me.”

 

The allegations against Mr Linden date back to 2019 with claims he groped a teenager while drunk at a party.

 

That year Mr Linden was due to stand as an MP candidate in the general election. But four days after the alleged incident he announced he would not stand - despite being nominated.

 

Scottish Tory MSP Annie Wells said: β€œJordan Linden’s resignation and apology are at least a partial acknowledgement of the distress he caused and his responsibility for it. That is more than other SNP members have done in similar cases.

 

"But the issue here was never just about Mr Linden’s misconduct, but about the SNP’s reluctance to deal with serious allegations against senior party figures.”

 

In 2017, Mr Linden β€œstepped aside” after a probe into claims of inappropriate conduct at the Scottish Youth Parliament.

 

Scottish Labour MSP Neil Bibby said: β€œThis resignation was the right thing to do, but it doesn’t fix the rotten culture of secrecy and cover-up at the heart of the SNP.

Eleven people are accused taking part in a child sexual abuse ring also allegedly involving witchcraft, serious violence and neglect.

 

The seven men and four women faced a 14-page indictment listing 43 different charges during a hearing at the High Court in Glasgow on Monday. The accusations mainly centre around three young children - two girls and a boy - between January 2010 and March 2020 at various addresses in the Townhead, Maryhill and Craigend areas of Glasgow.

 

They include claims the trio were raped at different times while some of the group did "clap, cheer and verbally encourage" as well as video record what was happening. One of the young girls was said to have been shut in a microwave during an attempt to kill her.

 

It also alleged the children were forced to take part in satanic "seances" and made to kill animals. Iain Owens, 43, Elaine Lannery, 38, Lesley Williams, 40, Paul Brannan, 40, Marianne Gallagher, 37, Scott Forbes, 49, Barry Watson, 46, Mark Carr, 49, Richard Gachagan, 44, Leona Laing, 50, and John Clark, 46, deny the charges they face.

 

Owens and Lannery first face a charge of neglecting four youngsters. The accusation features a claim they got a young boy to "courier controlled drugs" on their behalf.

 

It is then said 10 of the group - apart from Forbes - assaulted the elder girl to the danger of her life starting when she was six. This included running a wheelchair into her legs and also putting a black plastic bag over her head affecting her breathing.

 

The girl was also allegedly made to eat cat food as well as take drugs and alcohol. The next charge states Owens, Lannery, Williams, Brannan and Gallagher assaulted the young boy.

 

It is said he was put in a bath which he was allegedly told was filled with blood. Owens, Lannery, Williams, Brannan and Clark are then accused of the attempted murder of the younger of the two girls starting when she was just weeks old.

 

This charge - which runs between December 2015 and June 2019 - states she was made to "act like a dog" and eat pet food. It also said the group did chase the child while wearing a devil mask.

 

She was also allegedly hung by her jumper from a nail on the wall. The murder bid charge finally claims the girl was pushed into and trapped inside a microwave, an oven, a fridge freezer and various cupboards.

The 11 are further said to have worn cloaks and devil horns as well making the young boy stab a budgie to death. The group are also accused of killing a number of dogs including getting the children to attack the animals.

 

Owens alone then faces a number of charges that he raped the older girl including with Watson, Brannan, Clark and Forbes. Owens and Lannery go on to be accused of a sex abuse charge involving the boy and the younger girl.

 

A separate allegation states all of the group were then allegedly involved in the rape on various occasions of the older girl. It is claimed they got her to take drink and illicit drugs.

 

The charge states while she was being sexually assaulted Lannery, Williams, Laing and Gallagher did "clap, cheer and verbally encourage" the alleged crime, which was also video recorded. The girl was said to be 10 when it started.

 

Forbes alone next faces an indecent images accusation. Prosecutors further state Gachagan, Laing, Carr, Forbes and Watson allegedly paid for "sexual services" for three of the children.

 

Two separate charges claim Owens and Lannery did "facilitate" this There are then a string of accusations detailing further alleged crimes against all three children. The indictment goes on to state Owens and Lannery took part in the rape of the boy.

 

All 11 also allegedly abused him with the men this time were said to have "cheered" while it was going on. The next charge claims Owens and Lannery had sex in front of children.

 

Owens and Brannan go on to face an accusation of raping the boy. The duo along with Lannery and Williams are also said to have made him watch a video of one of the girls being attacked.

 

Lannery is then charged with molesting the younger girl before it is claimed she, Owens, Williams and Brannan raped her. The whole group go on to face the same crime with the girl allegedly held down in a cot.

 

As this was said to be happening, the women are accused of clapping and cheering while the boy and older girl were shut in a room. The elder child was also said to have been made to "operate a camera and create video footage" of some of the abuse.

 

Owens and Lannery then face charges of attempting to defeat the ends of justice and attempting to pervert the course of justice. This includes claims the older girl was threatened and her call to the police was disconnected.

 

It is also said attempts were made to "pressurise" two of the youngsters around the time of police interviews. They also allegedly got rid of items to avoid prosecution.

 

The group further face separate drugs charges. Gachagan is finally accused of lewd behaviour towards another young girl in the mid-1990s in Glasgow's Townhead.

 

Maureen Goudie, Steven McHendrie, Robert Brown, James McLean and Douglas Gachagan are also mentioned as being involved in a number of the charges. But, the indictment states they are now "deceased".

 

Owens and Lannery, of Thornliebank, East Renfrewshire, Brannan and Clark, of Clydebank, West Dunbartonshire, Forbes of Townhead, Gallagher and Gachagan, of Maryhill, Watson, of Mount Vernon, all Glasgow deny the charges. Williams, of Lennoxtown, East Dunbartonshire as well as Laing, of Rutherglen, near Glasgow, also plead not guilty.

 

Carr, of Townhead, did not appear in the dock also pled not guilty through his defence counsel Brian McConnachie QC. Gallagher was excused from the dock during the hearing after taking unwell.

 

Judge Lord Beckett asked prosecutor Kath Harper about her eight week trial estimate. She replied: "It's extremely difficult [to tell] in this case. The recorded interviews will take three weeks - eight weeks is an estimate for the the trial which I think will be maybe six weeks."

 

Lord Beckett set an eight week trial at the High Court in Glasgow for September next year. A further hearing was also fixed for October.

California House Passes 'Infanticide' Bill Legalizing the Death of Newborns 7 Days or More After Birth

 

The California State Assembly on Thursday passed what pro-life advocates have called a radical measure that they've dubbed "The Infanticide Bill."

 

The bill, known as AB 2223, was passed by a vote of 48-21 in the Democrat-controlled Assembly. It now goes to the state Senate.

 

The measure is promoted by the state's "Future of Abortion Council," a coalition of 40 pro-abortion groups whose goal is "to Protect, Strengthen and Expand Abortion Services in California." The abortion council is currently advocating for nine different abortion expansion bills.

 

As CBN News reported, AB 2223 was opposed by pro-life groups who say new language added to the proposed legislation would shield a mother from civil and criminal charges for any "actions or omissions" related to her pregnancy, "including miscarriage, stillbirth, or abortion, or perinatal death." Although definitions of "perinatal death" vary, all of them include the death of newborns seven days or more after birth.

 

Certain media fact-checkers over the past few months said the pro-life advocates' claims were false or misinterpreted. However, the National Catholic Register noted that the state's Assembly Appropriations Committee acceded to some pro-life demands and amended language in the bill on May 19.

 

"Today, Assemblymember Buffy Wicks' A.B. 2223, which came to be known as the 'infanticide bill,' was amended in the Assembly Appropriations Committee to confirm that a woman will not be investigated or charged for experiencing miscarriage, stillbirth, abortion, or 'perinatal death due to causes that occurred in utero,'" the California Catholic Conference reported in a statement released last week.

 

"This change definitely closes the door on potential unintended consequences of permitting infant deaths due to abuse, neglect or abandonment, alleviating the concerns that the CCC brought to the author's attention," the statement said.

 

Kathleen Domingo, the executive director of the California Catholic Conference told the Register that the Assembly Judiciary Committee's analysis of the bill, dated April 5, "agreed that the terminology 'perinatal death' was unclear and could lead to 'undesirable conclusions.'"

Ukraine severs diplomatic ties with Middle East state

Kiev also wants to impose a trade embargo on Syria over its recognition of the Donbass republics

 

The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Thursday that it’s severing diplomatic ties with Syria after Damascus recognized the independence of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics in Donbass.

 

In a statement published on its website, the ministry said it β€œstrongly condemns” Syria’s decision, which it considers an β€œunfriendly act against Ukraine” and an β€œencroachment on its sovereignty and territorial integrity.”

 

β€œIn response to this unfriendly act, Ukraine declares the severance of diplomatic relations with Syria without the severance of consular relations,” the message reads further.

 

Kiev has also said that it intends to impose a trade embargo on Syria and is considering β€œother sanctions on Syrian legal entities and individuals.”

 

On Wednesday, Syrian state news agency SANA quoted a foreign ministry official as saying that theSyrian Arab Republic has decided to recognize the independence and sovereignty of both the Lugansk People’s Republic and the Donetsk People’s Republic

 

Following Russia, Syria has become the second country among UN members to formally recognize the independence of the two states which make up the Donbass region. Both of the republics decided to break away from Kiev’s control in 2014 after a Western-backed coup ousted the democratically-elected president Viktor Yanukovych. Their decision prompted Kiev to try and reclaim the areas by force, leading to an eight-year conflict.

US building new military facility near China

 

The U.S. military is expanding a facility in the Pacific island territory, Northern Mariana Islands, preparing it as an alternative location for military aircraft to land if the U.S. territory of Guam is targeted in a future conflict with China.

 

Satellite images taken earlier this month and revealed last week show work is proceeding to expand the Tinian airport. The open-source intelligence-themed Twitter account OsintTV tweeted photos of the progress, with the caption β€œUS has begun expansion work at Tinian International Airport (Mariana Islands). Satellite imagery from June 6 shows activity to clear the airfield, which will house the new aircraft parking apron, taxiways. Completion date October 2025. Estimate US$161.8 million.”

 

According to The Drive, the latest images demonstrate progress in adding a new aircraft taxiway and an expanded parking apron for aircraft on the northwest end of the airport.

 

In May 2019, the Commonwealth Ports Authority of the Northern Mariana Islands signed an agreement with the U.S. Department of Defense, authorizing the U.S. military to lease the Tinian International Airport on the island of Tinian to act as a divert airfield for Andersen Air Force Base on Guam. Having the divert airfield in place would provide U.S. forces a base to launch and land military aircraft in the event that the runways on Andersen Air Force Base are knocked out, such as in a conflict with China.

 

Tinian is about 1,800 miles from the Chinese mainland and about 120 miles north of Guam.

 

The military development on Tinian comes as the U.S. is increasing its presence in the Indo-Pacific region. The area surrounding China consists of a series of island chains. According to a 2020 analysis by the U.S. military research think tank RAND, China is increasingly building weapons that can saturate the so-called First Island Chain, which generally consists of Taiwan, Japan’s southern Ryuku Islands and the northern islands of the Philippines. China is also beginning to obtain more weapons that can reach parts of the so-called Second Island Chain, which includes Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands.

 

According to the 2020 RAND analysis, the U.S. military has been increasingly betting on bolstering its presence on the Second Island Chain, as a way to back up U.S. and allied forces in the First Island Chain. The U.S. and its allies will likely try to keep the Second Island Chain in the event that Chinese forces seize control of the First and their anti-access, area-denial (A2/AD) strategy blocks the U.S. from returning to the First chain.

 

The recent progress in Tinian is indicative of the broader U.S. strategy to build up its presence in the Second Island Chain.

Alaska governor wants constitutional amendment on abortion

 

Alaska voters will decide in November if they want to approve a constitutional convention.

 

Alaska Gov. Mike Dunleavy is planning to ask the state legislature to consider a constitutional amendment on abortion.

 

The U.S. Supreme Court struck down Roe v. Wade on Friday by a vote of 6-3. Alaska does not have a trigger law that makes abortion illegal.

 

β€œI like many Alaskans, am pro life,” Dunleavy said in a news release. β€œI also recognize that many Alaskans are pro choice. I will therefore be introducing a resolution for a proposed constitutional amendment to the Legislature in the next session to answer the question whether abortion shall, or not be a constitutionally protected right.”

 

Alaska voters will decide in November if they want to approve a constitutional convention. Alaska Democrats said in light of Friday’s Supreme Court ruling, the measure must be defeated.

 

β€œWhile, for now, a woman’s right to choose remains protected in the state of Alaska, extremist Christian fundamentalists and radical MAGA Republicans seek an unnecessary, expensive and dangerous constitutional convention that would open up the entire state constitution for revisions on issues ranging from abortion, to guns, climate change, environmental regulations, gay marriage, and the PFD,” the organization said in a post on its website. β€œThe constitutional convention question must be defeated by voters at the ballot box this November.”

 

Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, said while her home state has β€œprotected abortion rights” through the state’s constitution, other states have not.

 

β€œIn the wake of this ruling, it is up to Congress to respond,” Murkowski said in a news release. β€œI introduced legislation in February to protect women’s reproductive rights as provided in Roe, and I am continuing to work with a broader group to restore women’s freedom to control their own health decisions wherever they live.”

 

Sen. Dan Sullivan, R-Alaska, said the ruling takes the issue out of federal courts and gives it back to the states.

 

β€œAs a pro-life Catholic, I believe there is no greater gift than that of life. Going forward, I will continue to support legislation protecting the most vulnerable in society, including by expanding quality child care and opportunities for adoption,” Sullivan said.

Romney under pressure to release tax returns for the years before 2010 as Obama accuses him of profiteering from the destruction of companies

 

Presidential hopeful Mitt Romney built his $250 million fortune with the help of two of Britain's most disreputable business figures - Guinness fraudster Jack Lyons and crooked newspaper boss Robert Maxwell.

 

In the 1980s both men invested large sums in the Republican candidate's first private equity fund, started during his years at Bain & Company, which launched his now highly controversial career in finance.

 

Flamboyant publishing tycoon Maxwell was the former head of the left-wing Mirror Group newspapers and a one-time owner of the New York Daily News.

 

He died in mysterious circumstances in 1991 at the age of 68 after falling overboard from his luxury yacht off the Canary Islands after which it was discovered he had plundered hundreds of millions from an employee pension scheme.

 

Lyons, who died in 2008, was one of the notorious 'Guinness Four' convicted for a massive share trading fraud in which they attempted to inflate the price of Guinness shares to assist a take-over bid for Scottish drinks company Distillers.

 

He was subsequently fined Β£4 million for theft and false accounting and stripped of his knighthood.

 

In 1984 Lyons, a former colleague of Mr Romney's at Bain & Company, along with members of his family invested almost $3million in Mr Romney's capital fund.

 

He then recruited Maxwell who invested $2 million in the fund.

 

Both Lyons and Maxwell kept money in tax havens and the latest revelations will be a blow to Romneywhose financial career is increasingly being brought into question.

 

Romney has claimed his fortune and career history is proof of his ability to run the country.

 

Mr Romney was a senior management consultant at Bain during one of the most controversial periods in the firm's history when they became caught up in the Guinness scandal as advisers to the drinks firm.

 

Bain Capital, the firm's investment arm, was set up by Mr Romney in 1981 and run from his Boston office.

 

Lyons was hired to help set up a British office and became the fund's first investor with a $2.5 million stake via a front company in Panama.

One Bain executive based in London at the time told the paper: 'Jack took an interest in Bain almost as if we were his sons.

 

'He wanted us to succeed in the UK and he introduced us to a lot of people . . . I remember attending a luncheon in London with Robert Maxwell.'

 

Around $12 million was invested by Bains partners including Mr Romney who is believed to have put up at least $160,000.

 

The fund was phenomenally successful, and according to a prospectus, yielded an average return of 173 per cent a year on stakes in 21 firms.

 

In 1986 Lyons joined a group of Guinness allies buying up stock in the firm in an attempt to boost the share price prior to a takeover bid for rival firm Distillers.

 

It was a success and at the time Bill Bain, the firm's founder and Mr Romney's mentor, wrote to Lyons saying: 'We are all delighted and look forward to hearing the story of how you managed to pull it off.'

 

Lyons and three others were later convicted of theft and false accounting. Lyons avoided jail due to ill health. but he was stripped of his knighthood and CBE, and fined Β£4 million.

 

Although there is no suggestion that Mr Romney, nor anyone at Bain in Boston had any knowledge of the wrongdoing a Bain employee in London described the period as 'traumatic'.

 

He told the Telegraph: 'Mitt was just another partner watching this thing unfold.'

 

Another British former colleague described him as 'bloodless'adding 'He was the sort of person that you would admire rather than like, and I think that continues to bedevil his political career.'

Like the article accurately states, it's a question of enforcement. As with all laws, it's up to the cop on the beat to make it count. I doubt one of the "trigger law" states will enforce those laws. They'll need to be clear budgeting of policing resources before those things are acted on. In the end, new legislation (and budgeting) will have to written up.

In early 2022 the German Minister of Defence, Christine Lambrecht, announced that Ukraine received a field hospital and a crematorium. In Khan Yunis, Rafa, and Beit Lahia, wastewater treatment infrastructure and water reservoirs funded by USAID, which the U.S. government spent millions to construct, were destroyed by aerial attacks that affected more than 300,000 civilians. Ninety-seven percent of the water in Gaza is contaminated, resulting in a widespread public health crisis, rendered even worse by the destruction of U.S.-funded water infrastructure.

 

The May 2021 war took a steep toll on Gaza, with more than 240 Palestinians killed and nearly 2,000 wounded. Four thousand rocket attacks from Gaza on Israel killed 12.

 

Israel's periodic devastation of Gaza is often characterized as "mowing the grass." Yoav Galant, a former Israeli military commander, embraced the philosophy in a radio interview: β€œThis sort of maintenance needs to be carried out from time to time, perhaps even more often.”

 

Though Galant and others would suggest such "mowing" is focused on Palestinian military power, Israel's routine destruction of hospitals, water treatment facilities and other civilian infrastructure suggests Israel strives to keep Gaza in a state of perpetual economic devastation.
