Economy

Tucker featured a story about a spiritual awakening in Kentucky at Asbury University, a small Christian university. It started as a regular church service on campus, and sponaneously blossomed into a full blown revival that has been drawing in thousands over the past week and is still going on. Crypto Giant Binance Expects to Pay Penalties to Resolve U.S. Investigations

 

Binance, the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, expects to pay monetary penalties to settle existing U.S. regulatory and law-enforcement investigations of its business, the firm’s chief strategy officer said in an interview.

 

Binance grew quickly and began as a business powered by software engineers unfamiliar with laws and rules written to address the risk of bribery and corruption, money laundering, and economic sanctions, Patrick Hillmann said. The company has been working to fill gaps in its early compliance efforts, he said, but still expects regulators will impose fines for past conduct.

Hidalgo County sheriff: Meteorite reported west of McAllen

 

Two aircraft reported seeing a meteorite west of McAllen Wednesday, according to Hidalgo County Sheriff Eddie Guerra.

 

Guerra was informed of the meteorite via federal authorities, who said Houston air Traffic Control received the reports from the aircraft, the sheriff said in a social media post.

 

"Where the exact point of impact is unknown," Guerra said in a tweet. "No reports of any damage in that area has been received."

 

Guerra's statement was given as multiple calls have come in to law enforcement agencies reporting what sounded like a “loud explosion” or a “blast” in the Mission area.

 

Several law enforcement agencies in Mission and its surrounding cities confirmed they received the reports and told Channel 5 News they’re looking into it.

Former JPMorgan Chase & Co executive Jes Staley engaged in a discussion of Disney princesses with Jeffrey Epstein in July 2010, according to several emails cited in a lawsuit filed against the bank by the US Virgin Islands.

 

“That was fun,” Staley allegedly wrote. “Say hi to Snow White.”

“[W]hat character would you like next?” Epstein allegedly responded.

“Beauty and the Beast.”

According to the USVI, the exchange was referring to young women and girls Epstein was procuring. The territory unsealed the language Wednesday as part of a court filing aimed at bolstering its argument that JPMorgan, as Staley’s employer at the time, is liable for facilitating Epstein’s sexual abuse.

The new allegations follow an amended complaint in a separate lawsuit against JPMorgan by Epstein victims claiming Staley “personally observed” his former client’s misconduct.

Staley, who is not a defendant in either lawsuit, has consistently denied knowledge of Epstein’s sexual abuse.

JPMorgan declined to comment on the USVI filing on Wednesday. The bank has moved to dismiss both suits, claiming that the allegations concerning Staley are unsupported and that any knowledge on his part can’t be imputed to the bank. JPMorgan has also argued that it’s not clear that the allegations about Staley concern minors or women under coercion.

Staley, who left JPMorgan in 2013 and became chief executive officer of Barclays Plc two years later, was known to have exchanged upwards of 1,200 emails with Epstein over the years, but their contents have not been previously disclosed. Staley stepped down as Barclays CEO in 2021 following a UK Financial Conduct Authority probe into his ties with Epstein.

According to the USVI, Epstein also occasionally emailed Staley photos of young women.

‘I Realize the Danger’

In another email cited in the suit, Staley appeared to write Epstein from the latter’s villa on Little St. James in November 2009. At the time, Epstein was under home confinement in Palm Beach, Florida, following his release on charges of soliciting a minor for prostitution but was allowed to travel to New York to meet with his lawyers.

“Presently, I’m in the hot tub with a glass of white wine,” he wrote. “This is an amazing place. Next time, we’re here together. I owe you much. And I deeply appreciate our friendship. I have few so profound.”

According to a December 2009 email, Staley got his desired reunion.

“I realize the danger in sending this email,” Staley allegedly wrote. “But it was great to be able, today, to give you, in New York City, a long, heartfelt, hug.

Epstein was a customer of the bank between 1998 and 2013 and held about 55 accounts, containing hundreds of millions of dollars, USVI says. At least 20 individuals paid through JPMorgan accounts were “victims of trafficking and sexual assault in Little St James,” according to the lawsuit.

The case is USVI v. JPMorgan Chase Bank, 22-cv-10904-UA, US District Court, Southern District of New York (Manhattan).

Police investigating racial incident involving students at Springfield elementary school

Police are investigating reports of an assault at a Springfield Elementary School involving two groups of students.

Monday morning Springfield police were called to Kenwood Elementary School about an incident that happened during recess Friday, according to an incident report obtained through a News Center 7 public records request.

Police were informed by the school’s principal that “a group of Black students had gathered several white students on a specific spot of the playground and forced them to state ‘Black Lives Matter’ against their will,”, the police report states.

Students who tried to avoid the situation were “chased down and escorted, dragged, or carried to the playground,” the report alleges. The group of students also allegedly filmed the students who were forced to make the statement.

One student was punched in the head by one of the suspects, the police report states.

Springfield police have questioned multiple juveniles in the incident, according to the report.

Ryan Springer and Ashley Henthorne said their 12-year-old son was one of the students forced on the playground.

“I mean I’m angry as a parent but I understand they are children. It’s not okay to hate anybody because of their skin color, or their gender or sexual orientation, or anything like that. Nobody should be hating anybody,” Springer said.

He said there are things that he doesn’t believe children should have to worry about.

“They should just be worried about being children,” he said.

Springer said he does not understand why the staff did not intervene and that the incident should not have escalated.

“Where was the school staff when all of this was taking place? And why? Why did it get so far?” he said.

Henthorne said she was not notified of the incident when it happened Friday, but noticed a change in her son. When she was notified of what happened Monday she said the changes she saw in her son made sense.

“I kept asking him all weekend, are you OK? And he kept saying, ‘yeah, I’m just tired’ And then when I got the phone call Monday about it, I was like, ‘that explained a lot.’” Henthrone said.

Their son has not wanted to return to school and Springer said he is “traumatized.”

“He’s like he’s kind of traumatized… he’s not a very confrontational kid. He’s got one of the biggest hearts of any kid around,” he said.

News Center 7 reached out to Springfield School District for a statement in response to the alleged assault.

“‘The Springfield City School District is committed to providing our students with a safe learning environment, where they look forward to attending every day. The District is aware of a situation that occurred at Kenwood Elementary. We are working closely with the Springfield Police Division on this matter to ensure that we maintain that safe environment. Because this is now a police matter, no additional information is available at this time.” a spokesperson said.

Springfield police told News Center 7 they are investigating whether the incident is a hate crime and working with prosecutors to review any possible formal charges.

Former MSNBC host Krystal Ball claims she was given a slap on the wrist for criticizing Hillary Clinton leading up to the 2016 election, and was told that if she wanted to continue criticizing Clinton on air, she needed to obtain approval from the network’s president.

 

Ball’s comments came during an episode of Joe Rogan’s popular “The Joe Rogan Experience” podcast, where Ball is a regular guest.

 

“Shortly before I was let go, I did a monologue when Hillary Clinton was building up to run for president,” Ball said on a recent episode of the podcast. “It was back in 2014, so it was early on and I did this whole thing that was like, ‘She sold out to Wall Street. Ball added that the incident never stopped her from continuing to comment on Clinton, but it did impact the manner in which she did it.

The Associated Press (AP) has released a series of photographs as well as a video clip purportedly showing several Kiev fighters on the frontline in the Donetsk region. One of the soldiers, identified by the outlet as a Ukrainian unit commander by the name of Kurt, can be seen wearing an ISIS (Islamic State) insignia on his left arm.

 

This isn’t the first time Kiev’s servicemen and paramilitaries have been caught on camera wearing extremist insignia, with many displayed sporting Nazi tattoos or patches.

 

In fact, these have often been personally associated with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky. Earlier this week, he published several photos of Kiev’s soldiers on his Instagram account. One of the images featured a serviceman resting in a trench while wearing a ‘totenkopf’ (death’s head) skull patch – a symbol of the 3rd SS Tank Division, infamous for massacring civilians in France and the Eastern Front, including Polish Jews.

 

In May, Zelensky also shared an image of a soldier with a similar skull-head patch, but later deleted it. In October, he was photographed on a visit to the frontline while being surrounded by security guards wearing the same insignia.

 

Kiev has denied the presence of any neo-Nazi elements in the country’s military, bluntly dismissing such assertions as “Russian propaganda.”

A new book about the power struggle to control the Paramount media conglomerate reveals a host of shocking details about sex-obsessed mogul Sumner Redstone and his dogged pursuit of women.

The book — “Unscripted: The Epic Battle for a Media Empire,” by New York Times reporters James B. Stewart and Rachel Abrams — reveals how the late horny billionaire even hit up his own grandson to introduce him to women and showered his female companions with millions in money, stock options and offers of work in his empire.

It describes how Redstone’s two girlfriends, Manuela Herzer and Sydney Holland, reportedly moved into the increasingly infirm mogul’s Beverly Park mansion and took over his life and health care decisions. The book alleges the women changed his will to benefit themselves, blocked family access to him, “and threatened to abandon him, leaving him to die alone if he denied their requests.”

The authors describe how the two allegedly siphoned off more than $150 million from Redstone’s bank accounts and stock holdings — and could have gained control of his empire, had they not had a bitter falling out and his daughter Shari Redstone successfully fought back.

The book, out Wednesday from Penguin Random House, also claims Redstone called President Barack Obama the N-word and that he hated President Donald Trump so much, his computer had a button to say “F–k you” whenever anyone mentioned the former chief executive.

In 1987, Redstone, a former Army officer, became one of the country’s most powerful media moguls in a $3.4 billion hostile takeover of Viacom, the parent of the cable networks MTV and Nickelodeon. He controlled Viacom and CBS almost until his death in 2020 at age 97.

One of his most unusual courtships was with 26-year-old Malia Andelin, who was working as a CBS private plane flight attendant in 2008 whenRedstone allegedly asked her, “I hear women like to be spanked … Do you like to be spanked?”

According to the book, he later lunged at her in his limo and tried to get his hand under her blouse, according to the book, and also left her a bizarre “Mission: Impossible”-themed voicemail saying, “Some say I created ‘Mission: Impossible,’ and some say that this mission is impossible … But I made this mission possible.”

Redstone told her she didn’t need to work on the CBS private jet and instead could accompany him to dinners plus Hollywood premieres, galas and benefits, giving her millions of dollars to do so.

 

Following the 2009 MTV awards, where

Redstone openly flirted with his grandson’s girlfriend in front of Viacom execs, Korff, then 25, enlisted Bravo’s “Millionaire Matchmaker” Patti Stanger to find a suitable romantic match for the mogul. “I can’t deal with him,” Brandon is said to have confided in Stanger, who was paid $120,000 for a year for the pleasure of setting Redstone up.

Stanger even told The Post in 2016, when Redstone was 93, “He [Sumner] flirts with everyone and loves busty, blue-eyed brunettes. I was the look.”

Holland allegedly racked up more than $2 million on Redstone’s credit cards in 2014, including a $58,461 charge at Saks Fifth Avenue, according to court papers. That same year, Herzer’s charges totaled $1.5 million, including $128,780 at Barneys and $82,624 at Hermes, the court records said.

Holland and Herzer filed their own suits also, accusing Shari of conspiring with her father’s nurses to spy on them and turn her father against them. Holland claimed in her lawsuit that Shari bribed Sumner’s nurses to secretly record “intimate” discussions about his sex life, which Shari denied.

Holland settled her case with Redstone in June 2018. Herzer battled on, and in 2019 finally agreed to pay the Redstone family $3.25 million to reimburse them for some of the gifts that she had received. The court dismissed the case following settlement.

‘We were all forced’: Mum of ‘healthy’ 21-year-old who died after Moderna blames vaccine mandates

Natalie Boyce was a “fit and healthy” student who dreamt of travelling the world and buying her own home.

 

The 21-year-old from Rowville in Melbourne’s southeast — a competitive netball player and hardworking student in her fourth year of law and commerce at Deakin University — would have turned 22 on Monday.

 

Nearly one year ago, on March 27, 2022 — her late grandmother’s birthday — Natalie died of heart failure at The Alfred Hospital, six weeks after receiving a booster dose of the Moderna vaccine.

 

“You’ll never be the same,” her mother Debra Hamilton, 52, told news.com.au.

 

“No parent should bury their child — especially from medical negligence and a compulsory vaccine.”

 

Ms Hamilton, a single mother who raised Natalie and her older brother alone, says their tight-knit family group has been torn apart by the “horrific” ordeal, and is now demanding accountability for her daughter’s “brutal, unnecessary death”.

Natalie, who had no other major health issues, had been diagnosed with antiphospholipid syndrome as a 15-year-old by chance while having her appendix removed.

 

Liberal Senator Gerard Rennick, a vocal and at times controversial critic of Covid vaccines, contacted the TGA in October 2021 flagging a potential danger.

 

“He wrote to them in October 2021 to have Moderna pulled for people with antiphospholipid syndrome,” Ms Hamilton said.

 

“If they’d done that she’d be alive. A lot of people don’t even know they’ve got it. Had I known what the Senator had said back in October, there was no way in a million years I’d have let her have another one.”

 

Natalie received two doses of Pfizer in September and October 2021, followed by the Moderna booster on February 18, in order to keep her job at fleet management firm LeasePlan — as well as attend in-person classes at Deakin University — under the state’s sweeping vaccine mandates at the time.

 

“I don’t blame her workplace to be honest,” Ms Hamilton said.

 

“My workplace had to check people’s vaccination status. We were all forced by Daniel Andrews. We were forced by government regulations. At my workplace they turned up to audit us and had we not complied it was going to be a $10,000 fine.”

This is weird because O'Hare is technically in the City of Chicago, but it is gerrymandered in for revenue. Downtown Chicago is actually about 20 miles east of O'Hare.

Republicans introduce 'COVID-19 Vaccination Non-Discrimination Act'

Sen. Rand Paul and Rep. Dan Bishop, Republicans, introduced the "COVID-19 Vaccination Non-Discrimination Act" to prohibit federal funds from being given to medical facilities that refuse to treat patients based on their COVID-19 vaccination status.

 

Paul, a Kentucky Republican, said his legislation would "protect the rights of vulnerable patients to make their own health care choices and ensure that federal taxpayer dollars do not support facilities that turn away patients based on their COVID-19 vaccination status."

 

Bishop, a North Carolina Republican who introduced the bill in the House, said, "There’s no reason that medical facilities should deny care to people based on their COVID-19 vaccination status, and there’s certainly no reason for institutions that do so to receive any federal funding."

 

The American Medical Association warned in 2021 that physicians should not deny patients medical care based on their vaccination status.

 

Some hospitals, such as the University of San Francisco Medical Center, require patients to be fully vaccinated before they are able to receive an organ transplant. Late last year, a 14-year-old girl in North Carolina was denied a kidney transplant by Duke University Hospital because of her vaccination status, Paul said.

 

Cosponsors of the Senate bill include GOP Sens. Ron Johnson (Wisc.), Mike Lee (Utah), Tom Cotton (Ark.), Marco Rubio (Fla.), Cynthia Lummis (Wyo.), J.D. Vance (Ohio), Mike Braun (Ind.), and Kevin Cramer (N.D.).

California woman accidentally runs over, kills would-be catalytic converter thief: cops

 

February 15, 2023

 

A California woman accidentally ran over and killed a man police said had been trying to steal her catalytic converter Tuesday.

The unidentified woman was sleeping inside her Ford Excursion in the parking lot of a Palmdale shopping center when a group of four alleged thieves pulled up around 6 p.m., the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department said.

Two Hispanic men and two Hispanic women parked in the stall next to their sleeping victim. One man hopped out of the car, laid underneath the woman’s SUV and began sawing off the catalytic converter, deputies said.

“The victim woke up from the sound, turned the car on, put the vehicle in reverse, and felt a bump like she ran something over,” the department said in a release.

The woman stopped immediately and called 911, leaving the ran-over suspect lying beneath her car.

Sheriffs arrived to find the Ford partially backed out of the parking stalls with the man still underneath and the alleged thieves’ car parked next to it.

The man was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police later identified him as a grand theft suspect.

The three others from his group were detained.

Police have not released the identities of those involved, or said whether the theft victim would face any charges. The case was classified as a homicide.

Catalytic converters are a hot commodity for auto thieves.

Last week, jackers swiped the iconic Oscar Mayer Wienermobile’s catalytic converterwhile it was parked at the Sonesta Suites on Paradise Road in Las Vegas.

In New York City, such thefts rose as much as 600% across the five boroughs last year, The Post reported.
