At least 457 people arrested, 441 security forces injured in violent French pension protests

A total of 457 people were arrested and 441 security forces injured on Thursday during nationwide protests against French President Emmanuel Macron’s pensions reform, Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said.

Speaking to the CNews channel on Friday morning, Darmanin also said that there had been 903 fires lit in the streets of Paris during by far the most violent day of protests since they began in January.

“There were a lot of demonstrations and some of them turned violent, notably in Paris,” Darmanin added, saying the toll was “difficult” while praising the police for protecting the more than million people who marched around France.

Police had warned that anarchist groups were expected to infiltrate the Paris march and young men wearing hoods and facemasks were seen smashing windows and setting fire to uncollected rubbish in the latter stages of the demonstration.

Darmanin, a rightwing hardliner in Macron’s centrist government, dismissed calls from protesters to withdraw the pensions reform which cleared parliament last week in controversial circumstances.

“I don’t think we should withdraw this law because of violence,” he said. “If so, that means there’s no state. We should accept a democratic, social debate, but not a violent debate.”

Elsewhere on Thursday, the entrance to Bordeaux city hall was set on fire during clashes in the southwestern wine-exporting hub.

“I have difficulty in understanding and accepting this sort of vandalism,” the mayor of Bordeaux, Pierre Hurmic, told RTL radio on Friday.

“Why would you make a target of our communal building, of all people of Bordeaux? I can only condemn it in the strongest possible terms.”

British King Charles III is set to visit the southwestern city next Tuesday, and had been expected to visit the city hall and meet with Hurmic.

FDA Notice: Common Stroke Medication Recalled Over Cancer-Causing Chemical

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced the recall of a commonly used stroke medication after the company discovered the presence of a potentially cancer-causing impurity.

In an FDA-issued recall notice on March 22, Ascend Laboratories LLC said it is recalling Dabigatran Etcxilate Capsules at the consumer level after nitrosamine, a carcinogenic substance, was found about the “acceptable daily intake level.” The company said it hasn’t received any reports of adverse events or health problems in connection to the recall.

“Nitrosamines are common in water and foods, including cured and grilled meats, dairy products, and vegetables. Everyone is exposed to some level of nitrosamines. These impurities may increase the risk of cancer if people are exposed to them above acceptable levels over long periods of time,” the FDA said. “The product is used as an oral anticoagulant to lower the risk of stroke and blood clots.”

Dabigatran etexilate is a prescription medication that is used to lower the risk of stroke and blood clots in some individuals, according to the National Libraries of Medicine. Specifically, the drug is used to treat deep vein thrombosis, to prevent strokes or serious blood clots in individuals with atrial fibrillation, and pulmonary embolism in both children and adults.

The company said that the recalled medication was distributed around the United States between June 2022 and October 2022. Lot numbers and other information about the recalled product are available on the FDA’s website.

“Patients who have received impacted lots of Dabigatran Etexilate Capsules, USP 75 mg and 150 mg are advised to continue taking their medication and contact their physician for advice regarding an alternative treatment,” the notice said. “Consumers with questions regarding this recall can contact Ascend Laboratories LLC. using the below information.”

But consumers should contact their doctor if they’ve experienced any adverse health events associated with the medication, the notice said.

In October, Aurobindo Pharma USA announced the voluntary recall of two lots of blood pressure medication because of high levels of nitrosamine, according to an FDA notice. Two months later, Lupin Pharmaceuticals Inc. stated that it is voluntarily recalling four lots of Quinapril tablets due to the presence of nitrosamine.

Titanium Blockchain CEO gets four years in prison for cryptocurrency fraud

His sentencing comes amid mounting scrutiny of cryptocurrency firms following the collapse of FTX and the pending trial of founder Sam Bankman-Fried.

Titanium Blockchain Infrastructure Services Inc. (TBIS) Michael Alan Stollery was sentenced to four years and three months in prison on Friday for his role in a fraud scheme involving the firm.

Stollery made numerous false statements to entice investors to buy into TBIS's initial coin offering (ICO), which he also failed to register with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

"To entice investors, Stollery falsified aspects of TBIS’s white papers, which purportedly offered investors and prospective investors an explanation of the cryptocurrency investment offering, including the purpose and technology behind the offering, how the offering was different from other cryptocurrency opportunities, and the prospects for the offering’s profitability," the Department of Justice noted.

He also posted false client reviews and claimed to have a relationship with the Federal Reserve and many major companies.

Upon securing roughly $21 million, Stollery then used the funds to pay personal expenses such as credit cards payments at bills related to his Hawaii condo.

His sentencing comes amid mounting scrutiny of cryptocurrency firms following the collapse of FTX and the pending trial of founder Sam Bankman-Fried.

Fetterman will 'be back soon,' comms director says

Democratic Sen. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania, who checked into Walter Reed National Military Medical Center more than a month ago due to clinical depression, will return "soon," according to communications director Joe Calvello.

"He'll be back soon, at least over a week, but soon," Joe Calvello noted Thursday, according to the Associated Press.

Calvello said the lawmaker is getting daily in-person briefings from chief of staff Adam Jentleson, according to the outlet.

"While John has experienced depression off and on throughout his life, it only became severe in recent weeks," a statement released last month by Jentleson said. "On Monday, John was evaluated by Dr. Brian P. Monahan, the Attending Physician of the United States Congress. Yesterday, Dr. Monahan recommended inpatient care at Walter Reed. John agreed, and he is receiving treatment on a voluntary basis," the statement noted at the time.

Earlier in February, Fetterman had been taken to George Washington University Hospital after experiencing lightheadedness, but he was released later the same week. "In addition to the CT, CTA, and MRI tests ruling out a stroke, his EEG test results came back normal, with no evidence of seizures," a statement released at the time by Calvello noted.

The left-wing politician had a pacemaker with a defibrillator implanted last year after suffering a stroke — he has been having problems with auditory processing in the wake of the stroke.

He took office earlier this year after defeating Republican candidate Dr. Mehmet Oz in the Keystone State's 2022 U.S. Senate race.

Earlier this month, Jentleson indicated that Fetterman was "well on his way to recovery."

"Society's expectations and traditional gender roles play a part in why men are less likely to discuss or seek help for their mental health. As always, John continues to challenge the conversation. So human, so kind, so cute," Fetterman's wife Gisele tweeted.

When an electric vehicle crashes, even in a minor accident, insurance companies junk the entire car because its battery has to be tossed

The corporate-controlled media is finally coming around to accepting the truth about the electric vehicle (EV) revolution, which is not even close to being as environmentally friendly as its supporters and promoters claim.

Reuters published a piece this week revealing that even the smallest EV accidents, including minor fender-benders, almost always result in insurance companies having to total the entire car. The reason for this has to do with EV batteries, which are so expensive to replace that it makes more sense to just replace the entire car.

“We’re buying electric cars for sustainability reasons,” said Matthew Avery, research director at the automotive risk intelligence company Thatcham Research. “An EV isn’t very sustainable if you’ve got to throw the battery away after a minor collision.”

The battery pack in your average Tesla, for example, costs tens of thousands of dollars to replace. The battery pack alone represents a sizable portion of the vehicle’s overall price tag, it turns out.

Tesla and many other EV manufacturers have made battery packs a structural component of their cars in order to reduce costs for end consumers – but at what cost to the environment? Unless EV manufacturers change the ways in which they incorporate battery packs into their cars, all this needless waste will continue to pile up.

“The number of cases is going to increase, so the handling of batteries is a crucial point,” said Christoph Lauterwasser, managing director of the Allianz Center for Technology, a research institute owned by Allianz.

Manufacturing EV batteries is costly, exploitative and damaging to the environment

According to Lauterwasser, producing EV batteries is anything but clean and green. Compared to conventional fossil fuel-powered models, EVs and the batteries they contain produce significantly higher carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. And when the batteries are discarded far too early due to an accident, the environmental cost is even greater.

“If you throw away the vehicle at an early stage, you’ve lost pretty much all advantage in terms of CO2 emissions,” Lauterwasser said.

As for the Tesla Model Y, Sandy Munro, head of Michigan-based Munro & Associates, says this particular model of Elon Musk’s fleet has “zero repairability.”

“A Tesla structural battery pack is going straight to the grinder,” said Munro, who analyzes vehicles and advises automakers on how to improve their functionality and repairability.

Then there is the social cost of mining up all the metals needed to make these too-easily disposable batteries. Children in Africa are forced to work like slaves for pennies a day to gather all the materials needed to make these “green” vehicles, adding insult to injury.

“So much for the EV revolution and the green ‘circular economy’ touted by carmakers, politicians, NGOs, and climate activists,” reported Zero Hedge about the matter. “These EVs appear even worse for the environment when compared with traditional petrol-powered vehicles.”

In the comments, someone stressed the fact that modern EVN junk is worse for the environment than 150-year-old combustion engine technology – imagine that.

“But don’t tell Greta,” this person further joked, referring to global warming activist Greta Thunberg who was caught trashing her Tesla EV with junk and fast food wrappers, cans, and other debris.

Another pointed out that all car insurance premiums now reflect this EV deception.

“You’re paying to scrap these new EVs,” this person said. “Changing the true rate to insure an EV would lead to further ‘EV hesitancy.'”

Rockets Fired at Two US Bases in Northeast Syria, One American Soldier Reportedly Injured

US bases in the al-Omar oil and Koniko gas fields in northeast Syria's Deir ez-Zor Governorate came under rocket fire on Friday night, the Lebanon-based Al Mayadeen TV reports, citing sources.

Eight rockets were fired at the Koniko base, the sources said. An unidentified US official relayed to Al-Jazeera that one American service member had sustained injuries following strikes in Deir ez-Zor. It was also noted that US air defenses shot down two of three drones used in the attack.

Earlier Friday, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said that 10 rockets targeted coalition forces at the Mission Support Site Green Village compound in northeast Syria on March 24. No US personnel or coalition members were injured in the attack and the facilities and equipment remain unscathed.

One of the rockets, which missed the compound by nearly five kilometers, struck and damaged a civilian home, resulting in injuries to two women and two children, according to CENTCOM.

The latest batch of tit-for-tat strikes comes after the US authorized an airstrike against targets in eastern Syria on Thursday in response to a suspected Iranian drone that had struck a coalition base housing US forces. One US contractor was killed and five American soldiers and an additional contractor sustained injuries.

Earlier Friday, during a joint conference with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, US President Joe Biden told reporters that he does not seek a conflict with Iran following the Thursday airstrike against Iranian proxies. However, he underscored that he is fully prepared to defend US forces stationed in Syria.

"The United States does not seek conflict with Iran, but be prepared for us to act forcefully to protect our people," Biden said on Friday.

The US, which maintains a force of about 900 service members in Syria, has held a footprint in the war-torn country since 2016. However, its presence in the nation has no legality, having acquired neither the permission of Damascus nor a mandate from the UN Security Council.

The Syrian government has repeatedly likened US forces in the country to an occupation with an underlying goal to loot the country of its rich oil and gas deposits.

Sabbagh: Terrorist war has caused enormous damage to water sector in Syria

The terrorist war imposed on Syria since 2011 has caused more than $1.2 billion worth of damage to its water sector, Ambassador Bassam Sabbagh, Head of the Syrian delegation to the UN conference entitled “Water for Sustainable Development”, has affirmed.

Finally, he denounced that Israeli occupation continues to steal water from the occupied Syrian Golan, ignoring international laws and regulations.

“The occupation authorities are exploiting the waters of Lake Tiberias and the Banyas River and their springs, as well as looting the water of the Raqqad basin, a tributary of the Yarmouk basin,” Sabbagh concluded.

A professional wrestler turned security guard recently appeared to stop a mass shooting just as it was about to begin at a strip club in Tampa, Florida, in a high-stakes fight captured on surveillance footage.

Michael Rudman, 44, was arrested Sunday after attempting to charge into the Mons Venus club carrying a handgun and flashlight while wearing a red-and-black devil mask with the words “kill” and “darkk one” written on his arms, the Tampa Police Department said in a statement.

A security guard near the door prevented Rudman from entering and fought with him before being helped by two other men. Footage of the incident released by police shows the dramatic encounter unfolding over the course of less than 50 seconds.

“There is no question that the security guards who disarmed this suspect saved dozens of lives through their heroic acts, and I am thankful that our officers were able to take this individual into custody before he had the chance to carry out whatever he had planned,” said Interim Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw.

“We will continue to actively and thoroughly investigate this case to get a better understanding of what led up to this thwarted incident.”

Police stated that while no one was injured inside the club, one round from Rudman’s gun struck the front door.

The initial security guard who kept Rudman from entering the club, 55-year-old Manuel Resto, said he is a former professional wrestler and thought at first that he was being pranked, FOX 13 reported.

“I thought it was one of my friends playing a trick on me, and he didn’t say a word,” Resto said, adding that once the fight started, “What I wanted to do was get him on the ground and get the gun away from him.”

Officers found more ammunition, knives, and gun accessories in Rudman’s truck, as well as two fully loaded magazines in one of his pockets, according to the press release.

Police said Rudman is now facing multiple criminal charges: aggravated assault with a deadly weapon; battery; aggravated battery with a deadly weapon; and purchasing, possessing, or receiving a firearm while under a risk protection order.

The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office had served Rudman a risk protection order last year under Florida’s version of what is known as a “red flag law,” which allows firearms to be temporarily seized from people if they pose a danger to themselves or others.
