The current reports of executive branch illegality make Watergate look like kindergarten mischief.

 

It is clear from the Durham report and the work of House Republican hearings that the current scandals in the Biden White House – and senior bureaucracies at the Justice Department, IRS, and elsewhere – are much deeper and more cancerous than Watergate ever was.

Garland’s Justice Department reportedly instructed the IRS to disband the unit investigating Hunter Biden’s taxes.

 

He has used the FBI to harass former President Donald Trump and a wide range of Republicans. And he’s turned a blind eye to every report of foreign money going to the Biden family ($3 million in one Chinese transaction, a diamond sent to Hunter Biden, millions of dollars sent by the widow of the Mayor of Moscow, etc.).

 

Garland’s also done nothing with the clear references to "the big guy" in various Hunter Biden emails. He’s ignored the testimony of Hunter Biden’s associates that Joe Biden was actively supporting them as vice president. The list goes on.

 

If Nixon’s White House was trying, unsuccessfully, to manipulate the IRS, the FBI, and the CIA, Biden’s White House has become quite good at it.These institutions are now so corrupted that their senior leadership is instinctively willing to break the law, frame the innocent, and obstruct justice in defense of their chosen leader.This includes lying to FISA courts, leaking falsehoods to the equally corrupt elite media, and isolating and punishing would-be whistle blowers.

 

Compare the shock of Democrats and Republicans in the Watergate era with the staunch unwillingness of virtually any Democrat to go after the Biden family scandals – or to be infuriated at the blatant abuses of power and obstructions of justice.

 

The Durham report had an impact, because it began to build a narrative of such institutional illegality and corruption that the hand of the House Republican investigators has been dramatically strengthened.

 

Over the next few months, we will learn more about just how sick the system has become,just how dishonest the elite corporate media are, and just how deep the need for reform is.

 

When the tide turns, and honest people are once again openly enraged and demanding action, we are going to learn just how much corruption there is.

 

At that point, we will realize that Watergate was a modest preliminary venture into lawbreaking, andthe Biden-Garland-establishment system is filled with criminality on a grand scale.

Newly released documents reveal the FBI never had even preliminary evidence of a Trump campaign conspiracy with Russia, and instead used a rarely enforced statutory relic – the Foreign Agents Registration Act – as the legal rationale for opening investigations in 2016-2017 and surveilling Trump campaign aides.

 

On July 31, 2016, the FBI opened a counterintelligence probe of the Trump campaign’s alleged ties with Russia – nicknamed Crossfire Hurricane – not under espionage conspiracy laws but under FARA.

The next month the FBI opened four separate FARA cases into people associated with the Trump campaign. Two other FARA cases were added the next year. Only one involved an individual with connections to Russia: Carter Page.

 

The recently disclosed documents, which surfaced thanks to declassification efforts, court filings and FOIA lawsuits, reveal that the initial target of the probe – then-Trump foreign policy adviser George Papadopoulos – was suspected of working for Israel, not Russia. Other FARA cases involved alleged ties to Turkey (Trump national security adviser Michael Flynn), Ukraine (campaign manager Paul Manafort and his deputy Rick Gates) and Egypt (Trump Mideast adviser Walid Phares).

 

All six sensitive cases were approved through the Justice Department’s counterintelligence and export control section, run at the time by former Justice official David Laufman.

 

Before the flurry of Trump-related cases, only three people had been found guilty of violating the seldom-enforced law since 1966. Passed in the run-up to World War II to curb Nazi propaganda, FARA mainly requires people to fill out a two-page form disclosing work on behalf of a foreign entity.

 

Nevertheless, the FBI used FARA as the basis for a wide-ranging probe of a presidential campaign and then a presidency that included the use of confidential sources to secretly record Trump’s advisers, according to a December report by the Justice Department’s watchdog. At the same time, the FBI dispatched agents to tail them, stake out their homes and dig through their trash — none of which is typically ordered in FARA probes, which rarely even result in fines.

As has been widely reported, Obama administration officials also resurrected an even older and less frequently used law, the Logan Act of 1799, to raise questions about Flynn’s contacts with Russia’s ambassador to Washington during the transition to the Trump administration. Only two people have ever been charged under the statute barring unauthorized citizen dealings with foreign governments – both before the Civil War. Neither was convicted.

 

Investigators for the Republican-led Senate looking into the conduct of the FBI and Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s team told RealClearInvestigations they believe the FBI and, later, Mueller used FARA as pretext to authorize investigations into individuals against whom there was no other significant evidence, raising fresh concerns about the predication for the nearly three-year investigation of Trump. Mueller also used the threat of FARA prosecutions to squeeze individuals for Russia information.

 

Only one of the six was indicted for FARA-related violations, and none was charged with any espionage or conspiracy crimes related to Russia.

 

In April 2019, Mueller reported that his “investigation did not establish that members of the Trump Campaign conspired or coordinated with the Russian government in election interference activities.”

Former FBI Director James Comey and his deputy Andrew McCabe have publicly testified they had sufficient evidence to justify investigating the Trump campaign for coordinating with Moscow to hack Clinton campaign emails and troll social media to influence the 2016 presidential election — a scheme that, if true, would have violated espionage laws and warranted serious felony charges.

 

But the raft of new documents reveals that the actual basis for the cases was the suspicion that Trump campaign aides failed to file FARA forms with Washington bureaucrats and pay the required $305 in registration fees.

 

One Senate investigator told RealClearInvestigations that Laufman, then Justice’s top counterintelligence official, was the “mastermind” behind the strategy to dust off and “weaponize” FARA against Trump campaign officials.

 

Investigators for at least one committee seek to question Laufman under oath. His name appears on a subpoena list of witnesses approved by the GOP-led Senate Judiciary Committee.

 

Laufman signed off on the wiretapping of Trump campaign adviser Page, which the Department of Justice inspector general determined was conducted under false pretenses involving doctored email, suppression of exculpatory evidence, and other malfeasance.

An Obama campaign donor, Laufman helped oversee a wide range of politically charged cases as the DoJ’s counterintelligence section chief – including the department’s investigation of Hillary Clinton concerning her mishandling of classified emails as secretary of state.

 

He could not be reached for comment. Since leaving the government for private practice in 2018, Laufman has made several appearances on cable TV shows criticizing the Trump administration. Last year he boasted of his “more aggressive approach” to enforcing FARA in a legal white paper.

 

“There have been nearly as many criminal prosecutions for FARA violations in the last 18 months (five) as during the 40-year period from 1966 to 2015 (seven),” he gloated in the February 2019 paper on “FARA Enforcement."

 

The FBI and Justice declined comment.

 

Before advising Mueller, the inspector general’s report revealed that Laufman worked closely with FBI counterintelligence official Peter Strzok – who was fired from the bureau in 2018 because of anti-Trump text messages sent while he was investigating the candidate and then president.

When the FBI initially launched its Russia “collusion” investigation of the Trump camp on July 31, 2016, the opening case memo written by Strzok stated that "this investigation is being opened to determine whether individual(s) associated with the Trump campaign are witting of and/or coordinating activities with the government of Russia.”

 

However, the FBI assigned the investigation a case number used internally by the bureau for possible violations of FARA. That means even the FBI’s larger umbrella case was at its core a regulatory, not a national security, matter.

 

The revelation is contained in a redacted version of the Electronic Communication obtained last month by Judicial Watch as part of a FOIA lawsuit the Washington watchdog group filed against the FBI.

 

“It shows there was no serious basis for the Obama administration to launch an unprecedented spy operation on the Trump campaign," Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton said. “We now have more proof that Crossfire Hurricane was a scam.”

 

In August 2016, Laufman began huddling with Strzok about the Crossfire Hurricane investigation, according to the IG report, getting regular briefings on all the Trump-related cases that flowed from it.

On Aug. 10, 2016, they opened separate FARA cases on Page, Manafort and Papadopoulos, under code names assigned by the FBI. The Papadopoulos case, for instance, was code-named "Crossfire Typhoon.” Then on Aug. 16, they opened another FARA case on Flynn, under the code name, “Crossfire Razor.”

 

Documents indicate they strained to convert FARA cases into counterintelligence investigations. Even though the cases were predicated on possible FARA violations, the Electronic Communications stated that there was reason to believe that the Trump targets “may wittingly or unwittingly” be involved in activity on behalf of Russia, which may constitute a federal crime or threat to national security.

 

The targets are not specifically named as "agents of a foreign power” — the key language in the federal espionage statute (under 50 U.S.C.) making it a crime to knowingly aid or abet any person in sabotage or clandestine intelligence-gathering activities for a foreign power. Rather, the case files cite the “Foreign Agents Registration Act” statute, even though they state that the primary goal of the investigation was to determine whether the targets were “directed and controlled by and/or coordinated activities with the Russian Federation in a manner which is a threat to the national security.”

Mark Wauck, a former FBI attorney who worked counterintelligence cases for the bureau, told RealClearInvestigations that FARA served as a "smokescreen” to justify spying on the Trump campaign and its aides, under the “baseless theory" that they might be clandestine agents of Russia.

 

Former FBI assistant director of intelligence Kevin Brock is equally skeptical of the motives for opening the cases. He said there was not enough evidence to support the FARA allegations and justify them standing alone as criminal investigations.

 

“In a normal EC opening a FARA case, we should expect to see a list of reasons why the FBI believes individuals associated with a U.S. presidential campaign had been engaged by the Russian government to represent and advocate that government’s goals,” he said. “Try as we might to spot them, those reasons are not found anywhere in the document.”

 

Added Brock: “There was no attempt by Strzok to articulate any factors that address the elements of FARA. He couldn’t, because there are none."

 

While the FBI used FARA to justify the launch of the investigation, Mueller later wielded it to pressure targets. Phares, a Lebanese-born American scholar and commentator who advised the presidential campaign of Mitt Romney in 2012 and Trump in 2016, confirmed in a RealClearInvestigations interview last month that he, too, was targeted under FARA.

Phares said he was interviewed by two Washington agents working for Mueller in 2017. “They were looking for FARA violations,” Phares said. “They couldn’t find anything about Russia, so they started asking me about Egypt,” he told RCI. “It’s laughable.”

 

Despite rummaging through his bank records, he said, they never filed any charges against him. Phares complained the FBI conducted a fishing expedition. He believes the FBI was also monitoring him during the 2016 campaign.

 

“But on different grounds,” he noted. “Not on the Russians, because I have no contacts [in] or ties to Russia, but on my work with Egypt.” Their real goal, he contended, was to spy on Trump and his campaign. Some legal experts say the predication for opening a probe of Phares appears thin.

 

“There is no logical basis for such an investigation,” said Wauck, who has been a persistent critic of the Trump/Russia probe.

Still, Mueller ended up bringing a half dozen indictments using the statute in his campaign to link Trump and his advisers to Russian efforts to influence the 2016 presidential campaign, all of which were approved by Laufman. Laufman helped him build FARA prosecutions against Flynn, Papadopoulos and Manafort, as well as Gates. (It’s not immediately clear if he also was involved in the Phares probe.) The results:

 

In September 2018, Manafort pleaded guilty to, among other crimes, violating the Foreign Agents Registration Act, and making false and misleading FARA statements related to consulting work he did in Ukraine. He was sentenced to 43 months in federal prison.

In February 2018, Gates also was indicted for FARA violations unrelated to the 2016 campaign, but the government dropped the FARA charges against him after he agreed to cooperate against Manafort.

In November 2017, Mueller used the threat of a FARA prosecution against both Flynn and his son to coerce a false statement plea from Flynn regarding phone conversations he had with the Russian ambassador a few weeks before he took office as Trump’s national security adviser. Flynn in the end was never charged with a FARA violation. Still, Laufman listed the FARA accusation — that he'd also allegedly made “false statements” in his FARA registration involving his work with Turkey — in the “statement of offense” against Flynn, even though it was not part of the plea agreement. (Last month, the Justice Department dropped its case against Flynn, though a federal judge has not yet granted its motion to dismiss the charges.)

In October 2017, Papadopoulos pleaded guilty to lying to Mueller’s agents after they put the screws to him over possible FARA violations and came up empty on any Russian funny business involving the campaign. Papadopoulos said Mueller threatened to “lock me up” for violating FARA. To get him on a FARA rap, Mueller obtained multiple warrants to search his residence and electronic devices based not on his ties to Russia but to Israel, one of America’s strongest allies.

Papadopoulos said the piling on of charges convinced him to take a plea deal in which he copped to lying to investigators about what turned out to be an innocuous Russia-related conversation he had in London in exchange for minimal jail time.

 

“I pled guilty when they came after me with FARA violations,” he told RCI.

 

As with Flynn, the plea bargain allowed Mueller’s prosecutors to insert the word “Russia” in court filings, making it look like he was hiding Russian-related crimes and keeping the Russia “collusion” narrative alive in the media.

Mueller even used the obscure FARA statute to obtain indictments against three Russian companies — as well as 13 Russian nationals — accused of running an influence operation against the 2016 campaign. In February 2018, they were charged with conspiracy to violate the regulation. (Justice recently dropped charges against one of the Russian companies that was a key defendant in the Mueller case.)

 

Senate investigators say that the unprecedented practice of resurrecting and applying FARA in the Trump-Russia investigation indicated that Mueller and Justice Department holdovers grasped at any conceivable legal tool they could find to pressure Trump associates to cop to what turned out to be nonexistent Russia “collusion" crimes. They also said they intend to question Laufman, in particular, about whether threatening these dubious charges constituted a new and unequal application of the law.

 

FARA Cases 'Fabricated' as Part of a Political Operation

 

Richard T. Higgins, a former National Security Council director and Pentagon official, said he doubts that Laufman and other former administration officials ever believed the Trump-Russia conspiracy theory.

 

Rather, he contends that the FARA and other sub-cases they opened on Trump aides were “fabricated” as part of a political operation against the Trump campaign and presidency. He argued that even the larger umbrella probe was a “cover story” to hide that alleged operation.

 

“The operation was consolidated and conducted under the codename ‘Crossfire Hurricane.’ The cover story, if one should be needed (in the event Clinton lost), was that its mission was to expose Russian interference in the American election,” said Higgins, who worked in the Trump White House. “The true mission was not to expose Russian interference, but to disrupt the Trump campaign and ensure the election of Hillary Clinton.”

 

He pointed out that the top Russiagate investigators — Strzok and FBI lawyers Lisa Page and Kevin Clinesmith — were all caught exchanging anti-Trump, pro-Clinton messages during 2016. Before the election, Strzok even promised Page he would “stop” Trump, whom he called a “fucking idiot” supported by “smell[y]" Wal-Mart shoppers. His concern was not that he was an agent supported by Russians, but by supposed rednecks. After the election, Clinesmith feared the Affordable Care Act and other Obama legacies would be dismantled by Trump and vowed to “fight” him for that reason. The IG report said Clinesmith forged email evidence used in applications to renew FISA warrants to spy on Trump aide Page. The IG referred Clinesmith to U.S. prosecutors for possible criminal investigation.

 

Higgins also noted that most of Mueller’s prosecutors were exposed as registered Democrats, who had given generously to Clinton’s campaign. His legal “pit bull,” Andrew Weissmann, even attended Clinton’s election night event in New York.

 

“You’d have to be blind not to see it was their political bias that motivated them,” he said.

Republican former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said Tuesday on Fox News that GOP Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis failed to “fill the vacuum” left by former President Donald Trump.

 

DeSantis is expected to announce his candidacy for the 2024 race this week, while Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin is considering a bid for the Republican nomination as well, according to Axios. South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott launched his own presidential campaign on Monday.

 

Fox’s Dana Perino asked Gingrich for his reaction.

 

“Can we get your thoughts about Tim Scott’s announcement, but also what Alexandria Hoff just reported on: not only do we have Ron DeSantis likely to get in the race this week but Glenn Youngkin says he might get in too?” Perino asked.

 

“It’s partly a function of DeSantis having failed to fill the vacuum, there was a large vacuum of non-Trump Republicans.Trump keeps gaining and strengthening, the latest poll today has him at 61% in the Republican primary, which is astonishing. But at the same time, DeSantis didn’t prove capable of reaching out to all the different elements of the party. So you now have more and more people who say, ‘Hey, I could be a competitor.’ And Tim Scott is a terrific person.”

 

Scott announced his presidential bid Monday in Charleston, South Carolina, criticizing President Joe Biden on the economy, national security and education.

But this wide and deep image combining data from two telescopes also reveals its extremely faint outer halo. At an estimated distance of 3,000 light-years, the faint outer halo is over 5 light-years across. Planetary nebulae have long been appreciated as a final phase in the life of a sun-like star. More recently, some planetary nebulae are found to have halos like this one, likely formed of material shrugged off during earlier episodes in the star's evolution. While the planetary nebula phase is thought to last for around 10,000 years, astronomers estimate the age of the outer filamentary portions of this halo to be 50,000 to 90,000 years. Visible on the right, some 50 million light-years beyond the watchful planetary nebula, lies spiral galaxy NGC 6552.

Ukraine’s leadership has again proven its “terrorist” nature by threatening to assassinate President Vladimir Putin, Kremlin Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov has said, while giving assurances that the Russian leader is well protected.

 

“A terrorist regime talks about its terrorist aspirations,” Peskov told the Rossiya 24 broadcaster on Thursday.

 

The spokesman was commenting on an acknowledgement by Vadim Skibitsky, deputy head of Ukraine’s Main Directorate of Intelligence (GUR), who told the German outlet Die Welt on Wednesday that Putin was on his agency’s kill list.

 

Peskov saidsuch statements showthat the military operation, launched byRussia in Ukraine in February 2022, was “more than justified, more than necessary and that it must be completed.”

 

When asked if the Russian president’s security detail had been boosted after the threat from Kiev, Peskov replied:“Trust me, our security services know their job and know what they're doing.”

 

In his interview, Skibitsky claimed that Putin “notices that we’re getting ever closer to him.”Ukrainian operatives have so far been unable to get to him because the Russian leader “stays holed up,” he added. Theintelligence official said the GUR was also “trying to kill” the head of the Wagner private military company, Evgeny Prighozhin, Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu, and Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov.

 

In early May, two small drones were disabled by air defenses, while trying to strike Putin's Kremlin residence in Moscow. The Russian leader was not there at the time of the failed attack, and no one was hurt.

 

Despite the Ukrainian authorities denying any involvement, Moscow called the incident a “a pre-planned terrorist act” and an attempt on Putin’s life perpetrated by Kiev.

 

The Kremlin vowed thatRussia would retaliate to the raid “anywhere and anytime it deems necessary,” while senior lawmaker Vyacheslav Volodin called for the use of “weapons capable of stopping and destroying the Kiev terrorist regime.”

 

Russia has accused Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky’s government of engaging in“terrorist tactics” since last fall, when it said Ukraine was targeting Russian infrastructure, including nuclear facilities and the strategic Crimean Bridge. The accusations were followed by the launch of a large-scale missile campaign across Ukraine, which delivered serious damage to the country’s energy system and depleted the capabilities of Ukrainian air defenses.

West waging ‘undeclared war’ on Russia and Belarus – Moscow

Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu says NATO’s military activity in Eastern Europe has taken a “most aggressive” direction

 

NATO is using the Ukraine crisis as an excuse to build up its forces in Eastern Europe and deploy weaponswhich are being aimed at Russia and Belarus, Moscow’s Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu claimed on Thursday during a meeting with his Belarusian counterpart Viktor Khrenin.

 

"Additional military contingents and military infrastructure are being deployed,combat training and reconnaissance activities are being activated near the borders of the Union State(of Russia and Belarus)," Shoigu said, adding that the US-led military blochas already launched the next stageof its expansion, and is now modernizing military infrastructure in Eastern and Central Europe.

 

Shoigu also noted that Western governments are intentionally “doing everything possible in order to stretch out and escalate the conflict in Ukraine” by continuing to provide military aid to Kiev’s armed forces.

 

“Today we are together resisting the collective West, which iswaging an essentially undeclared war against our countries," he said, noting that NATO’s military activity has acquired a “most aggressive direction.”

 

The minister also pointed out that another worrying aspect for Moscow is the “increasingly aggressive rhetoric and joint ‘nuclear missions’ of NATO countries in Eastern Europe” which aim to test the use of nuclear weapon delivery vehicles and improve the US global missile defense system.

 

Shoigu stressed that these missions, along with deliveries of depleted uranium to Ukraine, areforcing Russia and Belarus to take appropriate response measures. Those include the deployment of Russia’s non-strategic nuclear weapons on the territory of Belarus, the delivery of Iskander-M missile systems, capable of carrying nuclear warheads, and the re-equipping of Belarusian planes to be able to use nuclear munitions. Shoigu stated, however, that control over Russia’s nuclear weapons deployed in Belarus is still in Moscow’s hands.

 

The minister noted that given the new military-political realities, Russia and Belarus have been strengthening their collective defensive capabilities, and that Minsk remains a “faithful ally and reliable partner” to Moscow.

 

During their meeting, Shoigu and Khrenin signed official documents defining the procedure for keepingRussia’s non-strategic nuclear weapons in a special storage facility in Belarus. The move comes after President Vladimir Putin announced in late March that Russia would deploy its tactical nuclear weapons in the republic following a request from Minsk. Construction of the storage facility is expected to be complete on July 1.

Ukrainian military intel boss lists his combat injuries

Kirill Budanov says he has been wounded multiple times during the conflict in Donbass

 

The head of the Ukrainian military’s Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR), Kirill Budanov, has claimed to have been wounded three times during armed hostilities in Donbass. The spy chief described the incidents in an interview on Thursday with Ukrainian media.

 

Budanov stated that the worst of his injuries was caused by an anti-personnel mine dispersing multiple fragments, one which one hit him near the heart. Aside from that, the spy chief claimed he received a gunshot wound to his elbow.

 

While the official did not elaborate on when or where the incidents occurred,he appeared to be referring to the years-long conflict between post-Maidan Ukraine and the Donbassrepublics of Donetsk and Lugansk, which preceded the ongoing hostilities between Kiev and Moscow, raging since February 2022.

 

In recent months, Budanov has built up a substantial media presence, giving frequent interviews to domestic and foreign media, and making increasingly belligerent statements.

The Coming Ascension

 

There are two types of ascension. One is the ascension of humanity to a higher level of physical consciousness, as in The Shift, which is ongoing today. The other is the traditional form of ascension, where the devotee develops their spiritual capability to the highest state possible while in a human body.

The biggest miracle of all time must surely be how, two thousand years ago, such a huge presence managed to downscale enough to fit into one small physical body!

 

The lesson for us all is that human consciousness is variable in size. Your physical brain may be approximately the same size as everyone else’s, but your mind – your nonphysical field of consciousness – is variable. Growth in consciousness is, literally, growth in the size of your mind because the mind is independent of the brain. The physical brain is little more than a receiver, processor and transmitter of thoughts. Your mind is the part that lives on for ever and grows with the experience that you gain in life after life. Your subconscious memories of past incarnations are held in your immortal mind, not your mortal brain.

 

Ascension is a gateway through which we will all eventually pass. The members of the Spiritual Hierarchy are the early pioneers in this field.

 

Meanwhile, all of us face a more immediate form of ascension. We are about to transform from third-density physical existence into fourth-density physical existence.

Ukrainian officials send mixed signals on counteroffensive (but it’s happening soon!)KEK

Ukrainian government officials have made contradictory claims on whether the much-anticipated counteroffensive against Russian forces has begun. The leadership in Kiev has insisted for the past several months thatthe country is preparingto drive enemy forces from territories under Moscow’s control.

 

Speaking to Bloomberg on Thursday, a senior adviser to President Vladimir Zelensky, Igor Zhovkva, stated that Ukraine “will further be preparing the counteroffensive.”He explained that the operation will commence once Kiev has received all the necessary weapons from its backers, including long-range artillery, ammunition, and battle tanks. (If they hadn’t sold the weapons sent already through the black market, they would have all they needed)

 

Speaking the same day, the spokesperson for Ukraine’s Main Directorate of Intelligence (GUR), Andrey Yusov, also used the future tense when talking about the planned counteroffensive.

 

“As for the specifics, we definitely shouldn’t be asking every day, ‘What’s new with the counteroffensive?’But, no doubt, there will be liberation,” the official insisted, adding that “everything will be alright.” (The Power of Positive Thinking strategy!)

 

The statements came shortly after another senior aide to President Zelensky, Mikhail Podoliak, told Italy’s Rai TV channel that the “counteroffensive has been going on for several days now, intense warfare is underway along the 1,500km-long border.”

 

He also stressed Ukraine’s commitment to not using Western-provided weapons to conduct strikes on Russian soil. At the same time, Podoliak noted that Kiev sees Crimea as well as the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics as legitimate targets. Ukraine and Russia both consider these territories to be their own.

 

Several hours later, Podoliak took to Twitter to clarify his remarks, arguing that thecounteroffensive is “not a ‘single event’that will begin at a specific hour of a specific day with a solemn cutting of the red ribbon.”

 

Instead, he said the Ukrainian military has been taking action in various locations for some time to weaken Russian forces, with special emphasis on the “destruction of enemy logistics.” (Hmm, where are the reports?)

 

Top Ukrainian officials, including President Zelensky, have on several occasions floated the idea that thecounteroffensive might be delayeddue to the slow delivery of Western weapons. Many observers expected it to have already started.

 

Publicly, the US and other Western backers profess to be ready to support Kiev for “as long as it takes” to ensure it recaptures all the territory it has lost to Russia.

 

However, earlier this month, Ukrainian Ambassador to the UK Vadim Pristaiko complained that the West has piled “too much pressure” on Kiev and has built up “too much expectation” about the counteroffensive. (Well it is a war! Wow)

Biden's DOJ has decided not to charge Rachael Rollins after evidence found her guilty of election interference, raising concerns about a double standard in the criminal justice system.

 

Rachel Rollins, US Attorney for the District of Massachusetts, resigned from her office on Friday after the Department of Justice's Office of the Inspector General (OIG) found evidence that she lied to investigators to reportedly influence an election. The OIG referred criminal charges to the DOJ, but the Justice Department decided not to prosecute the district attorney, according to The Messenger.

 

The report states that "on December 16, 2022, pursuant to the Inspector General Act, 5 U.S.C. § 404(d), the OIG referred the false statements allegation to the Department for a prosecutive decision."

 

The OIG's investigation revealed that Rollins lied under oath during an investigation into the attorney allegedly trying to influence an election for district attorney in Suffolk County, MA last year.

 

Despite the findings, the OIG's report stated that "On January 6, 2023, the Department informed the OIG that it declined prosecution.”

 

According to the report, Rollins provided derogatory information about District Attorney Kevin Hayden to Boston Globe and Boston Herald with the hope that it would help Boston City Councilman Ricardo Arroyo in the Democratic primary for Suffolk’s district attorney in Sept. 2022.

 

The OIG said Rollins was able to acquire the "non-public" and "sensitive" information as a result of her federal position.

 

After Arroyo lost to Hayden in the primary, Rollins leaked more material to the outlets, according to the report.

 

The OIG accused Rollins of violating multiple Standards of Ethical Conduct for Employees of the Executive Branch, which include Section 2635.702 (the use "of public office for private gain") and Section 2635.703 (the use "of nonpublic information").

 

However, the greatest charge against Rollins was that she allegedly gave false testimony under oath when she denied providing the sensitive information to the Herald.

 

The investigation also accused Rollins of disregarding ethical warnings on political activities and soliciting expensive sports tickets, The Messenger reports.

 

In 2021, Rollins, a Soros-back federal prosecutor, was confirmed as US DA of Massachusettes when Vice President Harris cast a tie-breaking vote after all Republicans voted against her nomination, according to the outlet.

 

The Department of Justice's failure to charge Rollins raises questions about a two-tiered system of justice in the United States because this is the same Justice department that is considering charges against former President Donald Trump for allegedly making false statements to investigators relating to classified material at Mar-a-Lago.

 

However, Trump's team of lawyers could use the DOJ's dropped charges against Rollins to their advantage if he gets indicted.

Ukrainian attacks on Russian nuclear plants foiled – FSB

Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) has said it intercepted a Ukrainian saboteur group that was planning a terrorist operation on two nuclear power plants in the country ahead of May 9, when the Soviet Union’s victory over Nazi Germany is celebrated.

 

The suspects were aiming to destroymore than 30 pylons bearing high-voltage lineslinked to the nuclear power plants, the FSB announced in a statement on Thursday.

 

Before being detained, the Ukrainian agentswere able to blow up one transmission towerand mine four others on power lines leading to the Leningrad nuclear plant near St. Petersburg, according to the statement.

 

They also placedimprovised explosive devices at pylonsconnected to the Kalinin nuclear power plant in Tver Region, 350km northwest of Moscow, it added.

 

Ukraine’s Foreign Intelligence Service, which according to the FSB was behind the plot, hoped that the sabotage “would cause the shutdown of nuclear reactors, disruption of routine operations of the nuclear power plants, and deliver serious economic and reputational damage to Russia,” the statement claimed.

 

The FSB said two Ukrainian citizens were arrested, while another, who is believed to be in Belgium, was placed on the wanted list.

 

Thethree men were allegedly recruited by Ukrainian intelligencein September last year and underwent training at camps in the Kiev and Nikolaev Regions of Ukraine. They illegally crossed into Russia in Pskov Region from Belarus, which they had entered from Poland, the agency said.

 

Russian operatives discovered caches prepared by the suspects, containing36.5kg of C-4 plastic explosives, 61 foreign-made electric detonators, 38 electronic timers and two Makarov pistolswith ammunition, the statement read.

 

Two Russian citizenswere also detained on suspicion of providing means of communication and vehicles with fake license plates to the Ukrainian saboteurs, the FSB added.

Russian military repels another drone attack on Crimea – authorities

At least two drones were shot down by the Black Sea Fleet forces, Sevastopol’s governor has said

 

Multiple Ukrainian droneswere deployed in attempt to strike Sevastopol on Thursday morning, according to the governor of the Crimean port city that hosts Russia’s Black Sea Fleet. The attack was reportedly fended off with no damage caused by the UAVs.

 

“Early in the morning, our military repelled another drone attack on Sevastopol,” Governor Mikhail Razvozhaev wrote in a Telegram message.

 

At least two UAVs were shot downwith small arms by the Black Sea Fleet forces, while “several more” were neutralizedand downed using electronic warfare, the official claimed. The military has yet to issue a statement.

 

“No facilities in the city were damaged,”Razvozhaev said, adding that all security services “continue to monitor the situation.”

 

Crimea, which hosts major Russian naval facilities, has repeatedly come under Ukrainian attack since the start of the conflict. Kiev insists on re-capturing all of its former territories from Russia, including the peninsula, which voted in a referendum to rejoin Russia in 2014 in the aftermath of the Western-backed Maidan coup.

 

Over the course of the conflict, Ukraine has also repeatedly used sea drones to target Russia’s Black Sea Fleet. On Wednesday, the Russian Navy reconnaissance ship ‘Ivan Churs’ fended off an attack by three unmanned speed boats, according to the Defense Ministry.

 

Several previous attempts to strike warships stationed at the port of Sevastopol have also been unsuccessful, with the unmanned speedboats detected and destroyed on their approach, or becoming caught in the harbor's protective netting.

Neo-Nazi fugitive spotted among Ukrainian saboteurs

The ‘Hitler Hammer’ band founder took part in a deadly incursion allegedly using western-supplied equipment

 

Alexey Levkin, a notorious Russian far-right militant, has been spottedamong a Ukrainian saboteur groupthat launched a raid on Russia’s Belgorod Region earlier this week.

 

The attack was carried out by the so-called Russian Volunteer Corps (RDK), a collaborationist unit fighting for Kiev thatis said to be composed solely of Russian nationals. The group appears to have multiple far-right fighters within its ranks, including Levkin, who took part in the raid and shared footage of the attack on social media.

 

Born in 1984, Levkin is best known as the founder and frontman of the M8L8TH, a national-socialist black metal band formed in Russia in the early 2000s. The cryptic name of the band is commonly interpreted as “Hitler Hammer,” with the88 code commonly used by neo-Nazis to refer to the German dictator. The band, which itself describes its music genre as ‘militant black metal’ remains active and iscurrently based in Ukraine.

 

Apart from playing neo-Nazi black metal, Levkin also openly engaged in far-right extremism and was arrested by Russian law enforcement in the mid-2000s. The activist was accused of being a part of a far-right gang thatdesecrated ethnic minorities’ cemeteries, attacked ‘foreigners’, and even committed several murders. Levkin himself, however, avoided jail time as he wasdeemed to be mentally unstable, and was institutionalized instead.

 

He was released from an institution in 2011 and created anew neo-Nazi group, ‘WotanJugend’.Levkin actively supported the 2014 Maidan coup in Ukraine, launching fundraisers online to get weaponry, medicine, and other equipment for the pro-Maidan side.

 

Levkin fled Russia in 2015, moving to Kiev and continuing his far-right activities there unhindered, even joining thenotorious neo-Nazi Azov Battalion. In 2018, he was arrested in absentia by a Moscow court, standing accused of creating an “extremist group” and “inciting hatred” based on nationality. The far-right activist himself claimed the “extremist group” was the WotanJugend, which he insisted was nothing more than a public group on the VK social media platform, created by like-minded individuals who were not even acquainted in person.

A man has been arrested after a car crashed into the gates outside Downing Street.

The Metropolitan Police said he had been arrested by armed officers on suspicion of criminal damage and dangerous driving.

There were no reports of any injuries and inquiries are ongoing.

Police set up a cordon in Whitehall, the main road running past Downing Street, as officers with sniffer dogs were seen outside the gates.

Witnesses saw one man being led away by police. The incident happened at 16:20 BST, police said.

Footage of the car shows it approaching the main entrance to Downing Street, the home of UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and his family.

The car appears to slow down as before it hits the gates, which are staffed round the clock by armed and unarmed police officers.

The prime minister was in Downing Street at the time of the crash, but has since left for a scheduled visit.

Sections of Whitehall have been closed to the public and vehicles following the incident, with pedestrians being turned away from the main roads around Downing Street in central London.

There is a significant police presence in the area.

The incident comes as many civil servants in government departments were leaving their offices for the day.

US frustrated over Ukrainian attack in Russia

The White House has been “pretty darn clear” with Kiev about the use of US-supplied weapons, John Kirby has said

 

Washington has again dismissed visual proof of US-supplied equipmentused in this week’s attack by Ukrainian militants in Russia’s Belgorod Region as unconfirmed “reports” but admitted the images require further investigation. President Joe Biden’s administration, however, has apparently acknowledged concern thatKiev might have broken its alleged pledge not to use American weaponry outside its own territory.

 

White House National Security Council spokesman John Kirby spoke of “frustration”over the attack during a press briefing on Wednesday, US media outlet Politico reported. He noted that the administration is “looking into” the footage indicating that US-supplied equipment “could have been involved” in a deadly raid in the Belgorod district of Grayvoron.

 

“We’ve been pretty darn clear that we don’t support the use of US-made equipment for attacks inside Russia,” Kirby told reporters. “We’ve been clear about that with the Ukrainians. I won’t get into private discussions that we’re having with them, but I think we’ve been nothing but consistent about our concerns in that regard.”

 

Kirby’s comments came one day after US State Department and Pentagon officials tried to cast doubt on photos and video footage clearly showing that the militants used American gear, including Humvees and MaxxPro MRAP armored fighting vehicles. State Department spokesman Matthew Miller called the evidence “fuzzy pictures” and told reporters the US administration is “skeptical of their veracity.”

 

Thehigh-quality images, including footagereleased by the Russian Defense Ministry, showed multiple damaged and abandoned US vehicles. The military saiddozens of saboteurs were killed in a counterterrorism operation, while some were pushed back into the territory of Ukraine.

 

Kiev has attempted to disavow the raid by claiming it was carried out by the so-called ‘Freedom of Russia Legion’ and ‘Russian Volunteer Corps (RDK)’ neo-Nazi units. The Kremlin responded that it was a distinction without a difference, as the militants fought in the Ukrainian military using equipment provided by the West. Ukraine sent untrained conscripts into Donbass ‘meat grinder’ – WSJ

Kiev used untrained and poorly equipped troops in the lost battle for the strategic Donbass city of Artyomovsk, which the Ukrainians call Bakhmut,in order to save better units for its planned counteroffensive, the Wall Street Journal has reported.

 

In an article on Thursday, the US outlet told a story of a group of 16 Ukrainian conscripts, who were crushed by the Russian forces during the fighting in Artyomovsk, in Russia’s Donetsk People’s Republic in February.

 

The troops in questionwere “mostly poor men,” many of whom were unemployed. They had been recruited by the Ukrainian military from villages in the northeastern Kharkov Region, the report said. Some had completed mandatory military service years or decades ago, but almost none had ever seen actual combat, it added.

 

According to the WSJ, themen spent only two nights at a base, where they were handed Soviet-era rifles and uniforms. After that, they were told that they were being deployed to Artyomovsk – the scene of a months-long standoff between Russian and Ukrainian forces that has been described as a “meat grinder” and the biggest battle of the 21st century so far.

 

Some of theconscripts wanted to sign an official refusal to follow the order, saying they didn’t have proper training for the task. One recalled how he complained that he had never held a gun before and was afraid, but the Ukrainian sergeant major simply told him that “Bakhmut will teach you.”

 

The 16 draftees, who were enlisted into the 5th company of Ukraine’s 93rd Mechanized Brigade,spent only 36 hours in Artyomovsk, during which 11 of them were killed or captured, the WSJ said, citing surviving soldiers and relatives of slain recruits.

 

One of the troops told the outlet that he fired a rocket-propelled grenade for the first time in his life in Artyomovsk, while the other described the Russian assault as “hell on Earth.”

 

The Wall Street Journal suggested that Kiev used to send “mobilized soldiers and territorial defense units, sometimes with patchy training and equipment” to fight in Artyomovsk “in an effort to preserve brigades trained and equipped by the West for a widely anticipated offensive,” which had been expected to begin in spring.

 

Evgeny Prigozhin, the head of Wagner private military company, which spearheaded the Russian effort in the Artyomovsk, said his menhad “destroyed 50,000 troops of the Ukrainian Armed Forces” and wounded another 50,000 to 70,000. Microsoft (1984) launches AI moderation tool

Azure AI Content Safety claims to be able to detect “inappropriate” images and text and assign severity scores

 

Microsoft launched a content moderation tool powered by artificial intelligence on Tuesday that is supposedly capable of flagging “inappropriate” images and text across eight languages and ranking their severity.

 

Called Azure AI Content Safety, the service is “designed to foster safer online environments and communities,” according to Microsoft.It is also meant to neutralize “biased, sexist, racist, hateful, violent, and self-harm content,” the software giant told TechCrunch via email. While it is built into Microsoft’s Azure OpenAI Service AI dashboard,it can also be deployed in non-AI systems like social media platforms and multiplayer games.

 

To avoid some of the more common pitfalls of AI content moderation, Microsoft allows the user to “fine-tune” Azure AI’s filters for context, and the severity rankings are supposed to allow for quick auditing by human moderators. A spokesperson explained that“a team of linguistic and fairness experts”had devised the guidelines for its program, “taking into account cultural [sic], language and context.”

 

A Microsoft spokesperson told TechCrunch the new model was “able to understand content and cultural context so much better” than previous models, which often failed to pick up on context clues, unnecessarily flagging benign material. However, they acknowledged no AI was perfect and “recommend[ed] using a human-in-the-loop to verify results.”

 

The tech that powers Azure AI is the same code that keeps Microsoft’s AI chatbot Bing from going rogue – a fact that might alarm early users of the ChatGPT competitor. When it was introduced in February, Bing memorably tried to convince reporters to leave their spouses, denied obvious facts like the date and year, threatened to destroy humanity, and rewrote history. After significant negative media attention, Microsoft limited Bing chats to five questions per session and 50 questions per day.

 

Like all AI content moderation programs, Azure AI relies on human annotators to label the data it is trained on, meaning it is only as unbiased as its programmers. This has historically led to PR headaches – nearly a decade after Google’s AI image analysis software labeled photos of black people as gorillas, the company still disables the option to visually search for not just gorillas but all primates, lest its algorithm accidentally flag a human.

 

Microsoft fired its AI ethics and safety team in Marcheven as the hype over large language models like ChatGPT was reaching fever pitch and the company itself was investing billions more dollars into its partnership with the chatbot’s developer OpenAI. The company recently devoted more personnel to pursuing artificial general intelligence (AGI), in which a software system becomes capable of devising ideas that were not programmed into it.

Joseph A. "Socks" Lanza (1904 – October 11, 1968) was a New York labor racketeer and a member of the Genovese crime family, who controlled the Fulton Fish Market in Lower Manhattan through the United Seafood Worker's Union local 359 from 1923 to 1968.

 

 

The San Francisco crime family, also known as the Lanza crime family or San Francisco Mafia, was an American Mafia crime syndicate in San Francisco. The syndicate was organized in the early 1930s by Francesco "Frank" Lanza. The San Francisco family was a small organization with 20–25 made members.

 

By 1990, there were only a few made men left in the San Francisco mob, one was Sergio Maranghi, who was involved in cocaine and heroin trafficking. Maranghi moved to the U.S. from Florence, Italy in 1975 and eventually settled in San Francisco in 1978. He first began working as an employee of Starfish Co., a small fish processing company, which did a lot of business with Alioto's Restaurant.[2]

 

In 1980 Maranghi opened the Anchor Bay Cafe in North Beach. Lanza quickly noticed Maranghi's ability as a money maker and soon made him a member of the crime family. Maranghi was spotted many times meeting with Lanza and other San Francisco mob figures at the Anchor Bay Cafe until it closed down in 1983. He was one of many involved in a cocaine bust in October 1991. Maranghi decided to become an FBI informant instead of serving a long prison sentence and told federal agents of cocaine transactions he had had with his associates over a period of several years.[2]

 

Another man arrested was Gaetano Balistreri, a San Francisco mob associate, who owned the Portofino Cafe on Columbus Ave. Balistreri was arrested for distributing cocaine, but the charge was eventually dropped. In 1994, the San Francisco Police raided the Portofino and arrested Balistreri again, this time for running an illegal gambling operation with video poker machines. Another made member still living at the time was Steve Trifiro, who ran a small gambling operation near Sacramento, California.[2]

 

Lanza died of natural causes on February 14, 2006. He was 103.[6]
