Three More Hunter Biden Attorneys Quit, Bringing Total To Five

 

Three more of Hunter Biden's attorneys have filed a motion to withdraw from his ongoing case, after a Delaware judge dismissed his two tax misdemeanors without prejudice at the request of DOJ prosecutors - a move which will allow for the possibility of charging Biden in Washington DC or the Central District of California.

 

Mrian C. McManus Timothy H. McCarten and Matthew S. Salerno of Latham & Watkins LLP filed a motion to withdraw as counsel following US District Judge Maryellen Noreika's decision to grand the DOJ's request.

 

Latham & Watkins drew controversy the night before Biden’s late July court appearance because a staffer from the firm allegedly misrepresented her identity to the Clerk’s office and described herself as someone who worked for Theodore Kittila, the attorney for the House Ways and Means Committee.

 

The Committee was attempting to have Noreika consider testimony from IRS whistleblowers Gary Shapley and Joseph Ziegler showing “political interference” in the Hunter Biden investigation. Salerno attributed the incident to a “miscommunication” and the staffer said in a sworn affidavit she did not mischaracterize her identity with intent to deceive the court. -Daily Caller

 

The move brings the total number of Hunter Biden attorneys who have quit to five, with the first - Joshua Levy, quitting in March, and Christopher Clark quitting last week because he could be called as a witness in the case after plea negotiations broke down.

 

"Brian C. McManus, counsel for the Defendant, Robert Hunter Biden, and respectfully requests this Honorable Court to withdraw all appearances for the law firm of Latham & Watkins LLP as counsel for the Defendant in the above-captioned matter," reads Friday's motion, which doesn't provide a reason for the move.

 

"Mr. Biden has been advised of, and consents to, our withdrawal. He also agrees this withdrawal will cause no material adverse effect or prejudice to him and remains completely satisfied with Messrs. Lowell’s and Jones’s continued representation of him."

 

Hunter will continue to be represented by Abbe Lowell of Winston & Strawn LLP and Richard I.G. Jones Jr. of Berger Harris LLP. Biden’s top defense counsel, according to the Daily Caller.

 

Last month a sweetheart plea deal with the DOJ fell apart after Judge Noreika objected to terms which would have given Hunter broad immunity from future prosecution, even from unrelated crimes.

Meadows told special counsel he could not recall Trump ever declassifying Mar-a-Lago docs: Sources

 

Appearing to contradict former President Donald Trump's primary public defense in the classified documents case, former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows has told special counsel Jack Smith's investigators that he could not recall Trump ever ordering, or even discussing, declassifying broad sets of classified materials before leaving the White House, nor was he aware of any "standing order" from Trump authorizing the automatic declassification of materials taken out of the Oval Office, sources familiar with the matter tell ABC News.

 

Ever since the FBI's seizure of more than 100 classified documents from his Mar-a-Lago estate last August, Trump has insisted that he declassified all the materials before he left office. The former president now faces 40 separate criminal charges related to his possession of those documents, ranging from unlawful retention of national defense information to various obstruction-related offenses.

 

Trump has pleaded not guilty to all charges and has denied any wrongdoing

 

ABC News has also reviewed an early draft of the prologue to Meadows' book, "The Chief's Chief," about his time serving as Trump's chief of staff for the final months of the Trump White House, which includes a description of Trump having a classified war plan "on the couch" at his office in Bedminster, New Jersey, at a meeting attended by Meadows' ghostwriter and publicist, but not by Meadows himself. The reference to that document being in Trump's possession was removed before the book was published.

 

Multiple sources tell ABC News Meadows acknowledged to investigators that he asked that the paragraph be changed, and that it would be "problematic" had Trump had such a document in his possession. Sources tell ABC News that Meadows told special counsel investigators that he did not discuss making those edits with Trump.

 

Meadows also told investigators that he was not involved in packing the boxes that Trump took to Mar-a-Lago after leaving the White House, sources told ABC News, largely distancing himself from the removal of government documents, including classified materials. The sources said Meadows told investigators he did not witness Trump himself packing boxes and was unaware that Trump had taken any government records, including classified documents.

 

The former chief of staff also told investigators that shortly after the National Archives first requested the return of the official documents taken to Mar-a-Lago in 2021, he offered to Trump that he would go through the former president's boxes to retrieve the official records and send them back to Washington. Meadows told investigators Trump did not accept his offer, according to sources.

 

Following the FBI's search of Mar-a-Lago in August 2022, Trump's team issued a statement to one media outlet claiming that, while still in office, Trump had issued "a standing order that documents removed from the Oval Office and taken to the residence were deemed to be declassified the moment he removed them." On social media, Trump himself insisted that the documents at Mar-a-Lago were "all declassified."

 

According to sources familiar with the matter, Meadows told investigators that he had heard the term "standing order" used during his time in the White House, but not in relation to the declassification process.

 

While Trump's attorneys have not formally put forward such a defense in court, if they were to seek to make such a claim at trial then prosecutors could see substantial value in putting forward Meadows as a witness to counter such claims.

 

A spokesperson for the special counsel's office declined to comment when reached by ABC News. Meadows' lawyer, George Terwilliger, declined to comment for this story when reached by ABC News.

 

In a statement to ABC News, a Trump spokesperson, without evidence, accused the Justice Department of "selectively leaking incomplete information" to impact the 2024 election.

 

The statement claimed the DOJ and the special counsel "have resorted to selectively leaking incomplete information that lacks proper context because they know they can't win inside a courtroom, so now they are trying to deceive Americans through the court of public opinion," adding that "This witch-hunt is nothing more than a desperate attempt to interfere in the 2024 election as President Trump dominates the polls and is the only person who will take back the White House."

Understanding The Parasitic Cooperation Between Globalists And Leftists

 

I have to admit that in my efforts to analyze and dissect far-left/globalist ideologies and agendas I have come to a point where I am just as fascinated as I am horrified. Consider for a moment the progressive “intersectional” narrative which we often refer to as “woke”: It’s not an activist movement because they already have equal rights under the law. It’s partially a political movement but their goals go far beyond putting candidates in government – A large part of the government is already on their side.

 

They claim to stand against “capitalism” and corporate power, yet their movement is primarily funded by the very money elites they say they despise.

 

No, this movement is something different – It’s a system of blind belief and the invasion of a cult that worships itself, that worships power and seeks to undermine the truth whenever possible as a means to an end. We are witnessing history in the making; the birth of a monstrous religion of moral relativism.

 

To understand the political left and their tactics you have to understand their relationship with the globalists. Woke groups are a creation of the corporate/globalist regime. For decades think-tanks like the Ford Foundation and the Rockefeller Foundation have been grooming universities to produce a steady supply of cult members, all of them indoctrinated into a carefully crafted narrative that clings to socialism and uses victim status as a currency.

 

They abhor meritocracy and have delusions of equity. They demand an impossible Utopia that guarantees equal outcomes. They see self sufficiency as criminality; an attempt to escape from collective oversight. And they are more than willing to rationalize dishonesty, disinformation, deconstruction, chaos and murder as a means to get what they want.

 

As I’ve noted in the past, it’s difficult to combat a movement with no morals and no shame. If your purpose is to convince them to stop what they are doing using logic, data, common sense and appeals to conscience, you will fail. They don’t care about any of these things. The leftist obsession with power is absolute – It’s all they talk about. It’s the root of every one of their arguments.

 

That said, their concept of power is rather limited and childish.

 

For the woke, power is in cancel culture. Power is in the mob. Power is in displays of collective destruction and control.

 

They ask themselves “What can we take from others, and how can we instill fear?” They believe the more they can take, the more power they have.

 

Globalists view power in a similar manner to leftists, but they expand on the manifesto with the question “How can we convince others to give us control willingly?”

Pentagon Sends 700 Military Personnel Aid for Maui Recovery

 

The Pentagon has deployed around 700 personnel in Maui to assist in recovery following the devastating wildfires ravaging the region.

 

The Department of Defense (DoD) has 691 personnel on the ground in Maui who are engaged in planning, synchronizing, and coordinating support to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the state of Hawaii. The workforce is engaged in the transportation of cargo, personnel, supplies, and equipment, and standing by for aerial fire suppression. The DoD is also providing support for billeting, life support, and hygiene facilities for federal emergency workers.

 

Search and rescue teams are currently conducting searches over wide areas. Two CH-47 Chinook helicopters are aiding in fire suppression with water buckets. Joint Task Force (JTF) 5-0 is engaged in 24-hour security operations in the town of Lahaina, along with maintaining traffic control points.

 

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has transported 32 FEMA generators to Maui. Six forensic anthropologists are involved in gathering and identifying human remains.

 

The military is also expected to take part in engineering and damage assessment as well as rebuilding efforts.

 

“I want to reiterate our commitment to the residents of Maui County and the broader Hawaiian community. The combined strength of our military and civilian partners is making a significant impact on the ground, and I’m immensely proud of every individual contributing to these efforts,” Army Brig. Gen. Stephen F. Logan said during a press conference on Friday.

 

Over 1,000 federal responders are currently in Maui, including 350 members from the search and rescue team together with the canine squad. Almost 6,000 survivors of the wildfires have registered for federal assistance.

 

Survivors who are yet to register for assistance can do so by visiting disasterassistance.gov, calling 1-800-621-3362, or via the FEMA app.

Emergency Head Resigns

 

According to the County of Maui, there were 114 confirmed deaths as of Aug. 18. The most destructive of the fires in Lahaina has been 90 percent contained. It has burned through an estimated 2,168 acres of land. The Olinda fire that burned around 1,081 acres is 85 percent contained.

 

“When a fire is 100 percent contained, it does not mean it has been extinguished. It means that firefighters have the blaze fully surrounded. A fire is declared ‘extinguished’ when fire personnel believe there is nothing left burning,” the county clarified.

 

The exact number of missing people in the Maui fire is unclear as thousands are displaced, and search and rescue missions are ongoing. FEMA has declined to give an estimate of the number.

The Department of Justice (DOJ) planned to let Hunter Biden off the hook without charges until two whistleblowers came forward to expose political interference in the investigation, despite the claims of Attorney General Merrick Garland.

 

The New York Times exposed the inside dealings of Hunter Biden’s attorneys with senior officials at DOJ, who had constrained U.S. Attorney for Delaware David Weiss even as Garland was testifying to Congress that Weiss had full authority to act in the case.

 

The Times reported that not only did the whistleblowers stop the cover-up, but that Hunter Biden’s lawyers now want them to be prosecuted for speaking out against his special treatment — a violation of President Biden’s promise to protect whistleblowers:

 

Now, the I.R.S. agents and their Republican allies say they believe the evidence they brought forward, at the precise time they did, played a role in influencing the outcome, a claim senior law enforcement officials dispute. While Mr. Biden’s legal team agrees that the I.R.S. agents affected the deal, his lawyers have contended to the Justice Department that by disclosing details about the investigation to Congress, they broke the law and should be prosecuted.

 

Earlier this year, The Times found, Mr. Weiss appeared willing to forgo any prosecution of Mr. Biden at all, and his office came close to agreeing to end the investigation without requiring a guilty plea on any charges. But the correspondence reveals that his position, relayed through his staff, changed in the spring, around the time a pair of I.R.S. officials on the case accused the Justice Department of hamstringing the investigation. Mr. Weiss suddenly demanded that Mr. Biden plead guilty to committing tax offenses.

The whistleblowers, IRS Criminal Supervisory Special Agent Gary A. Shapley Jr. and IRS Special Agent Joseph Ziegler, told the House of Representatives that prosecutors would not let them pursue Hunter Biden’s tax crimes, and had sometimes tipped off the president’s son about impending searches or interviews.

 

The result was a “sweetheart” plea deal that would have prevented Hunter Biden from being investigated further — until federal judge Maryellen Noreika, a Donald Trump appointee, balked.

 

Earlier this month, Garland named Weiss a Special Counsel in the case, raising suspicions that his real purpose was to continue the cover-up. Charges were withdrawn from Noreika — ostensibly to be pursued elsewhere, but possibly to avoid her jurisdiction.

Elon Musk’s X platform, previously known as Twitter, is now seeking job applicants to stop disinformation and promote “credible” stories about the election, despite the Tesla CEO saying he had planned to make the social media platform more friendly to free speech.

 

Twitter/X is looking for job applicants to fill two positions tasked with protecting “information integrity” and “civic conversations” on the social media platform, according to a report by Just the News.

 

The applicants must be “passionate about protecting users from global disinformation,” as well as “combating threats to online conversational health,” and “helping people find credible information online” regarding elections.

 

Qualified applicants must also “have a deep understanding of geopolitical, disinformation, and cybersecurity trends,” with fluency in Russian, Mandarin or Cantonese preferred, the report added.

 

Critics quickly flagged the jobs as “censorship positions,” and social media users pointed out the accounts team leader Aaron Rodericks follows on rival platform BlueSky, which former State Department cyber official Mike Benz referred to as “every high-level spook & censorship industry heavyweight in the world.”

 

The accounts Rodericks is following reportedly include leaders of anti-disinformation groups that worked closely with the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA).

 

In February, social media analyst Kristen Ruby noted that the Musk-owned platform still had its recently renamed civic integrity misleading information policy.

 

This authorizes Twitter/X to remove, stifle, and label “content that may suppress participation,” as well as “mislead” about civic processes, cause “confusion,” or contain “satirical or humorous elements.”

 

In the Twitter Files, Rodericks was shown to be a skeptic of the U.S. government’s reports of disinformation and foreign influence, and claimed, internally, that the State Department’s Global Engagement Center “doubled their budget by aggressively overstating threats.”

 

In response to an inquiry by Just the News about how he squared his skepticism of GEC claims with the duties he’s hiring for, Rodericks said, “Be skeptical of all claims until proven with evidence.”

 

“GEC had terrible methodology for their social media research,” he added. “As a govt org they have a greater responsibility to be accurate when making claims.”

The judge who has been assigned the sweeping racketeering case against former President Donald Trump and 18 others is a 34-year-old former prosecutor and inspector general who took the bench just six months ago.

 

Scott McAfee is also an award-winning trial lawyer, a veteran musician and an athlete who has volunteered as a scuba diver with the Georgia Aquarium. He was appointed to be a Fulton County Superior Court judge by Republican Gov. Brian Kemp.

 

By random selection, McAfee,who once worked under Fulton District Attorney Fani Willis, was assigned the blockbuster case. He will hear it, unless the former Republican commander-in-chief and his allies are successful in moving it to federal court, where they could get a more conservative jury pool

 

In interviews with The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, McAfee’s friends and former colleagues described him as a bright and driven legal “star” with a mild-mannered demeanor, impeccable ethics and plenty of conservative credentials.

 

“He is probably the best person I can think of to handle this case fairly and efficiently,” said Alex Stewart, a longtime friend who competes on McAfee’s Atlanta Lawn Tennis Association team. “I have high hopes and feel good about his ability to be objective in this case as well and not fold to pressure from either side.”

Britain’s top demographics expert has said the falling number of babies born in Britain is a “good thing” after new data showed the number of births had hit a 20-year low.

 

Professor Sarah Harper CBE, founder and director of the Oxford Institute of Population Ageing and a former government adviser, said falling birth rates in the West were “good for… our planet”.

 

Her comments came after official figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) showed there were 605,479 live births in England and Wales last year, the lowest number since 2002.

 

The total was down 3.1pc compared to 2021 and is part of a long-term decline in the number of births across Britain and the developed world.

 

Prof Harper told the Telegraph: “I think it’s a good thing that the high-income, high-consuming countries of the world are reducing the number of children that they’re having. I’m quite positive about that.”

 

The academic said declining fertility in rich countries would help to address the “general overconsumption that we have at the moment”, which has a negative impact on the planet.

 

Prof Harper served on the Prime Minister’s Council for Science and Technology between 2014 and 2017. She was awarded a CBE for services to demography in 2018.

 

She said the UK’s declining birth rate was “inevitable” and in-line with trends in other developed economies.

New facts about the joint work of the US government and George Soros against the Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban

 

We see it as a fact that European countries adhere to a policy of absolute agreement with the course imposed on them by Washington. However, Hungary, the home country of billionaire George Soros, remains almost the "last heaven" of adequacy and resistance to the White House's course. Led by Prime Minister Viktor Orban, Budapest seeks to pursue an independent foreign and domestic policy, while, oddly enough, being a member of such associations as the EU and NATO.

 

Orban is known to be quite active in criticizing the Ukrainian war, calling for its conclusion as soon as possible, opposing arms supplies to Kyiv and doubting Ukraine's existence as an independent state. It’s evident that such statements and actions of the Hungarian prime minister do not suit the U.S. government.

 

It is not surprising that the US democratic government has been working for quite some time to create a negative image of Orbán. This activity is carried out in two priority directions.

 

The first direction is directly supervised by Soros, who promotes US interests and exerts pressure on the Hungarian Prime Minister's administration through the American Action for Democracy Foundation, which, in turn, finances the Hungarian opposition, namely the political alliance "Together for Hungary". Notably, it was this alliance that opposed the Hungarian ruling Fidesz party in the 2022 parliamentary elections.

 

No less important is the creation of an information agenda to discredit the activities of Orbán and his government. The U.S. Embassy in Budapest, headed by David Pressman, is responsible for this area. The American embassy promotes in the opposition Hungarian media theses criticizing the current Hungarian government in order to form a negative opinion of the Hungarian leadership. Washington has a whole network of information resources for this purpose, such as Alfahir, Kuruc, Magyar Demokrata and others.

 

The cornerstone of this scheme is Péter Marky-Zai, mayor of the Hungarian town of Hódmezővászárgyi and Orbán's main rival in the 2022 parliamentary elections. He is the ideal candidate for the EU - he supports Hungary's European course, normalization of relations with Europe and Budapest's switch to the euro. Marky-Zai is not shy, criticizing the country's prime minister for Hungary's "turn to the east, turning into a corrupt dictatorship from which people are fleeing." Unsurprisingly, it is Marky-Zai who is the key figure in this scheme, combining both the political and informational spheres of opposition to the current government.

 

At the moment, it can be said that the attempts of Washington and George Soros' structures to undermine the Orbán government are not successful. In 2022, the incumbent prime minister won a convincing victory in the parliamentary elections. At the same time, there is no denying that all the individuals and organizations mentioned in this scheme will continue to destabilize Hungarian society in order to change the Hungarian government and put pro-American individuals in public office.

Navy relieves commanding officer of USS Howard

 

The Navy ousted the commanding officer of the guided-missile destroyer Howard on Saturday.

 

Vice Adm. Karl Thomas, commander of the U.S. 7th Fleet, relieved Cmdr. Kenji Igawa from his duties “due to loss of confidence in his ability to command,” the Navy said in a statement Sunday.

 

Igawa, who graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 2004, previously served as the executive officer of the Howard. He became the commanding officer of the ship in December 2022.

 

“Cmdr. Igawa will be administratively reassigned to the staff of Commander, U.S. 7th Fleet,” the Navy said in a statement Sunday.

 

Former commanding officer of the guided-missile cruiser Robert Smalls, Capt. Edward Angelinas, will stand in as commanding officer until a permanent replacement is identified.

 

No other details were immediately available.

 

The Howard is based in Yokosuka, Japan and is assigned to Commander, Task Force 71/Destroyer Squadron 15.

Mass murderer sues Norway over ‘extreme’ sentence

 

Anders Behring Breivik is serving Norway’s longest prison term, 21 years, for killing 77 people in 2011

 

Norwegian mass killer Anders Behring Breivik has sued the state for violating his human rights by keeping him in “extreme” isolation, his lawyer, Oeystein Storrvik, told Reuters on Friday.

 

“He’s suing the state because he has been in an extreme isolation for 11 years, and has no contacts with other people except his guards,” Storrvik explained.

 

Breivik is serving the longest sentence possible under Norwegian law - 21 years - for killing 77 people in a combination mass shooting and truck bombing in July 2011 in the worst peacetime atrocity in the country’s history. Judges have the option to extend his sentence if he is deemed to be still a threat after that period.

 

After serving the first nine years of his sentence in Skien prison and reportedly tiring of the monotony of his surroundings, Breivik was moved to Ringerike prison last year, where he remains under maximum security conditions - including, according to his lawyer, solitary confinement.

 

“We hoped that there would be better conditions and that he could meet other people,” Storrvik lamented.

 

An appeals court in 2017 overturned a lower court’s decision that the conditions of Breivik’s confinement in a three-room cell violated his rights. In 2016, an Oslo court had found separating him from other prisoners due to the threat he allegedly posed amounted to “inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment.”

 

The state maintained at the time that Breivik “still wants to inspire others” and thus must be kept from other prisoners and the outside world. However, his living conditions are comparatively cushy compared to the US, where solitary cells are less than a quarter the size of his own three-cell suite.

 

The convicted terrorist is permitted to play video games, use the computer (without internet), work out with gym equipment, and read books and newspapers, as well as to study toward a degree in political science. He is even allowed to send and receive letters, though many of these end up censored if prison staff feel they could incite hate crimes.

 

While Breivik applied for parole last year, his application was rejected when the court found he still posed a threat to society. The judge ruling he lacked empathy and compassion for his victims and had not changed since committing the shocking murders after he attempted to defend his actions in gunning down dozens of mostly-teenage victims at a Labour Party youth camp on the island of Utoya, claiming most of those affected were not children but people in “leadership positions.”

 

Breivik’s latest lawsuit is expected to be heard in Oslo district court next spring, his lawyer said.

The Philippines would not be part of this week’s drills due to military logistical limitations but is open to becoming a participant in the future, the official said.

The wildfires that have ravaged the Spanish tourist island of Tenerife were a result of arson, a local official has admitted despite the persistent media narratives blaming climate change for the fires.

 

On Sunday, Canary Islands regional President Fernando Clavijo confirmed that the wildfires on the island of Tenerife were started deliberately, adding that police currently have three open investigations to apprehend the arsonist or arsonists involved in setting the fires.

“They not only endanger their lives but also those of the people who have to rescue them,” Clavijo is quoted as saying by el Diario.

 

According to Tenerife governor Rosa Dávila, some 12,000 people have been evacuated from their homes and hotels since the fire broke out on Tuesday. As of Saturday, over 8,000 hectares (20,000 acres) of forest have been burned on the island, however, this figure is likely to have increased by Sunday, Dávila said.

 

Thankfully, no one has been injured as a result of the man-made fires, and firefighters have so far successfully prevented the fires from burning any houses, though the fires are continuing to threaten to spread to 11 towns.

 

Despite the admission of arson, the supposedly politically-neutral Associated Press news wire service highlighted the supposed role of climate change in the fires, claiming — without providing evidence — that the droughts experienced over the past few years on the Canary Islands were a result of “changing weather patterns impacted by climate change.”

 

The fires in Tenerife are far from the only to be suspected as a result of arson, with Greek Climate Change Minister Vassilis Kikilias admitting last month that the majority of wildfires seen across the country this summer “were caused by human hand”.

 

In nearby Italy, police drone footage taken in the Calabria region last month showed a man apparently attempting to spark a wildfire. In an effort to combat the scourge of arsonists, the local governor established a special task force, including a fleet of police drones to patrol for people starting fires intentionally.

 

Greek newspaper Kathimerini has previously noted that laws surrounding arson may be failing to act as a deterrent, given that most arsonists are tried with “negligence” because it is difficult to prove that the fires were started intentionally.

 

Therefore, in Greece, the paper said, arsonists “tend to get away with small sentences, rarely serve any prison time and face no other penalty for the terrible destruction they cause.”

Zelensky Claims Netherlands to Send Entire Fleet of F-16 Fighter Jets After Meeting with Dutch PM

 

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenksy has claimed that the Netherlands will send all 42 of its F-16 fighter jets after he met with outgoing Prime Minister Mark Rutte on Sunday.

 

In his second visit to the Netherlands since the Russian invasion last year, Mr Zelensky toured a military airbase in Eindhoven on Sunday morning, where globalist lame-duck Prime Minister Mark Rutte showed off his fleet of F-16 fighter jets, which have been cleared by the Biden administration to be sent into battle in Ukraine, with Washington having final say over where they are deployed given that they are made in the United States.

 

Following the meeting, Zelensky posted on social media: “Today, we took another step to strengthen Ukraine’s air shield. F-16s. These jets will be used to keep Russian terrorists away from Ukrainian cities and towns.

 

“Prime Minister Mark Rutte and I reached an agreement on the number of F-16s to be transferred to Ukraine once our pilots and engineers have completed their training. 42 jets. And this is just the beginning. Thank you, Netherlands!”

 

However, despite Zelensky’s proclamation, the Dutch Ministry of Defence has so far refused to confirm exactly how many F-16s it would be sending to Kyiv, with 42 representing the country’s entire stock of the American-made jets.

 

The Dutch government has also refrained from giving a specific timeline as to when the warplanes will be delivered, explaining that such a determination will need to wait until there are enough Ukrainian pilots properly trained on how to operate them, according to public broadcaster NOS.

 

Prime Minister Mark Rutte, who is currently serving in a caretaker role until the autumn elections, was also far more ambiguous than his Ukranian counterpart, saying: “We need some of them to help with training in Denmark and soon also in Romania. We’re going to see if we can supply the rest of the devices, but we don’t yet know exactly how many we can deliver.”

 

In July, a Western coalition of Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Luxembourg, Norway, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Sweden, and the United Kingdom pledged to help train Ukrainian pilots to fly F-16s.

 

President Zelensky has a history of putting the cart before the horse when it comes to the supply of Western fighter jets, with the Ukrainian leader using his address to the British parliament in February to thank the United Kingdom “in advance” for providing the country with warplanes before any announcement was made by London.

 

Following his visit to the Netherlands, Zelensky also travelled to Denmark on Sunday, where he said he would also be discussing the issue of F-16s with Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen. The pair were both pictured sitting inside the cockpit of one of Demmark’s F-16s. Frederiksen said that Denmark is prepared to send 19 of the jets to Ukraine.

 

In May, President Joe Biden said that the Ukrainian president had provided him “flat assurance” that F-16 jets would not be used to attack the Russian mainland for fear of expanding the proxy war in Eastern Europe into a wider conflict.

 

However, it is unclear how the Kremlin will respond if American-made jets are used to attack territories Moscow currently controls in Ukraine and indeed considers its own, such as in the Donbas or the Crimean Peninsula, which Vladimir Putin annexed in 2014.

Pentagon facing ammunition crisis – WaPo

 

A shortage of raw materials has left the US scrambling to restock its arsenal as the Ukraine conflict drags on

 

The US Department of Defense is having trouble keeping up with the demands of the Ukraine conflict, the Washington Post reported on Saturday, warning that failure to sustain current production levels could jeopardize security on the home front.

 

US military contractors are soon expected to double the rate of standard NATO artillery round production recorded prior to the current phase of the conflict. However, even churning out 28,000 shells per month is insufficient to satisfy what the outlet called “Ukraine’s astonishing hunger for artillery ammunition,” let alone shore up depleted reserves at home.

 

A shortage of raw materials – particularly the explosive TNT, which the US no longer produces – has hampered the Pentagon’s efforts to restock its own arsenal, which has been severely depleted by its support for Ukraine. Washington currently obtains much of its TNT from Poland but has been searching for new suppliers, including in Japan, after losing production partner Zarya when the region where the factory was located voted to become part of Russia in last year’s referendum.

 

Limited supplies of the propellant used to move artillery shells through gun barrels are also hampering defense contractors’ production capabilities, according to Czech propellant charge manufacturer Explosia. Spokesman Martin Vencl told the Post that the raw materials required to make propellant, including nitroglycerin and nitrocellulose, are in short supply.

 

Bureaucratic hurdles also mean that just 40.8% of the Pentagon’s $44.5 billion in Ukraine-related production contracts have been finalized, according to the Post. An industry expert from the Center for Strategic and International Studies defended the figure as better-than-usual performance, as concluding a major defense contract normally takes as long as 16 months.

 

An unnamed Pentagon official suggested that the solution to avoiding future shortages was to maintain “consistent high demand” for ammunition. The Pentagon should “continue to procure at that level over a longer period of time so that we have not just healthy stocks, but a healthy production and industrial base that’s able to meet them,” the person told the Post. The Pentagon hopes to increase output to 1 million shells per year by the fall of 2025.

 

“One of the lessons learned out of the Ukrainian experience is we need to go back and revisit those minimum standards [for ammunition stocks]. And we may have underestimated,” Army Secretary Christine Wormuth told reporters last month.

 

US President Joe Biden requested another $20.6 billion for Ukraine from Congress last week, even as officials began to quietly admit that Kiev’s counteroffensive has been a failure. The much-hyped initiative, which has retaken just a handful of villages since June, has cost Ukraine 43,000 troops and nearly 5,000 pieces of equipment, according to the Russian Defense Ministry.

Russian Spacecraft Crashes Into Moon After Reporting ‘Abnormal Situation’

 

MOSCOW (AP) – The Russian space agency says its Luna-25 spacecraft has crashed into the moon.

 

Russia’s unmanned robot lander crashed after it had spun into uncontrolled orbit, the country’s space agency Roscosmos reported.

 

The launch earlier this month was Russia’s first since 1976 when it was part of the Soviet Union. The crash comes after Roscosmos reported an “abnormal situation” that its specialists were analyzing on Saturday.

 

“During the operation, an abnormal situation occurred on board the automatic station, which did not allow the maneuver to be performed with the specified parameters,” Roscosmos said in a Telegram post.

 

The spacecraft was scheduled to land on the south pole of the moon on Monday, racing to land on Earth’s satellite ahead of an Indian spacecraft.

 

The lunar south pole is of particular interest to scientists, who believe the permanently shadowed polar craters may contain water. The frozen water in the rocks could be transformed by future explorers into air and rocket fuel.

Jim Jordan Subpoenas Citibank for Alleged ‘Back Channel’ Sharing of Customer Data with FBI in Jan. 6 Probe

 

Citibank was subpoenaed Thursday by House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan after the company refused to cooperate with the committee’s investigation into whether or not financial institutions illegally shared Americans’ private data with the FBI.

 

The Judiciary Committee, as explained in the August 17 letter, seeks to discover the “extent to which financial institutions, including Citibank, may have shared customer information with federal law enforcement despite the customers having no individualized nexus to criminal conduct.”

 

The alleged data sharing primarily consisted of transactions made in the Washington, D.C., area, near the time of the January 6 Capitol incursion.

 

“The Committee and Select Subcommittee have obtained evidence showing that at least one major financial institution provided the FBI with private financial data without legal process,” the fiery Republican from Ohio wrote in announcing the subpoena.

 

“As first noted in our June 12 letter, testimony from current and former FBI officials shows that Bank of America (BoA) provided the FBI—voluntarily and without any legal process—with a list of individuals who made transactions in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area with a BoA credit or debit card between January 5 and January 7, 2021.”

 

Individuals with a firearms purchase on their bank records were elevated to the top of that list, “regardless of the time or place of the firearm purchase,” Rep. Jordan said.

 

Further, documents obtained by the committee reportedly show that the FBI “supplied BoA with specific search query terms” to identify BoA customers “who had made ‘ANY historical purchase’ of a firearm, or that had purchased a hotel, Airbnb, or airline travel within a given date range.”

 

This data, according to The Hill, could have been used to track the travel of individuals suspected of rioting at the Capitol.

 

“Given this concerning testimony, the Committee has written to other major financial institutions, including Citibank, to determine whether those entities were involved in similar conduct,” the letter read.

 

The institutions previously contacted by the committee included Bank of America, Citibank, J.P. Morgan, PNC, Truist, U.S. Bank and Wells Fargo, The Hill reported.

 

Of these, Citibank is the only one that has chosen not to comply with the Judiciary Committee’s investigation, The Hill reported.

 

As the letter noted: “On June 12, 2023, we requested your voluntary cooperation with our oversight to determine the extent to which financial institutions, such as Citibank, have worked with the FBI to collect Americans’ financial data.”

 

“To date, Citibank has declined to comply with our request voluntarily, and counsel has represented that it will only comply pursuant to a subpoena.”

 

Citibank is implicated in this investigation since a representative from their company was “included on emails and Zoom discussions organized by the FBI and the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network,” Jordan wrote.

 

These discussions “focused on ‘identifying the best approach to information sharing, both strategic and operational,’ in the wake of the events of January 6,” the letter said.

 

Jordan continued, condemning the FBI’s “alarming” use of “back-channel discussions with financial institutions.”

 

“The Committee and Select Subcommittee must understand how and to what extent financial institutions, such as Citibank, worked with the FBI—and potentially other executive branch entities—to collect Americans’ data without an individualized nexus to criminal conduct,” the letter read.

 

Jordan also sent out another set of subpoenas on Thursday to U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland and FBI Director Christopher Wray, alleging the FBI and DOJ together “pressured and colluded with Big Tech and other intermediaries to censor certain viewpoints” in direct violation of the First Amendment.

In spite of tremendous challenges, the resilience of the American people continues to prevail.

 

Tragedies are somber reminders that preparedness is a shared responsibility and that it is critical to maintain readiness. All Americans can prepare for potential disasters by developing and practicing a family emergency response plan, assembling a disaster supply kit, signing up for alerts on mobile devices, setting aside emergency savings, and maintaining adequate insurance policies for their homes and businesses. The looming delivery of US-made F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine will not prevent the “collapse” of the country’s military and will only benefit the military-industrial complex, Democrat presidential hopeful Robert F. Kennedy Junior has claimed.

 

The Ukrainian conflict should be resolved through negotiations, RFK Jr. argued in a thread on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), stating that supplying F-16s to Kiev was a “great decision for the defense industry, but a disaster for Ukraine and humanity.”

 

“F-16s won’t stop the collapse of the Ukrainian military (which some experts say is imminent). These planes require a lot of training and maintenance. This isn’t the movies,” Kennedy stressed.

 

The presidential hopeful has long-opposed the enduring Western aid to Ukraine, spearheaded by Washington, arguing that the US should admit its “failure” in the country and focus on domestic issues instead. Kennedy’s criticism of the fighter-jet delivery comes after Washington enabled its European allies to re-export older planes to Ukraine, and hours before the move was officially announced by Denmark and the Netherlands.

 

The upcoming delivery was heralded by Dutch PM Mark Rutte on Sunday as he hosted Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky at a military airbase in Eindhoven.

 

“Today we can announce that the Netherlands and Denmark commit to the transfer of F-16 aircraft to Ukraine and the Ukrainian Air Force, including cooperation with the United States and other partners once the conditions for such a transfer have been met,” Rutte said at a press conference.

 

Simultaneously, the Danish Ministry of Defence released a statement confirming its pledge to provide Kiev with F-16s from its inventory, once certain “conditions” are met. The conditions “include, but are not limited to, successfully selected, tested and trained Ukrainian F-16 personnel as well as necessary authorizations, infrastructure and logistics,” it said.

 

Kiev has long-demanded modern aircraft, as well as other, increasingly sophisticated weaponry, from its Western backers, arguing the planes would help it turn the tide of the conflict with Russia, which has been going on since February 2022. A bus hits a van and catches fire in Pakistan, killing 20 people and injuring 11 others

MULTAN, Pakistan – A bus in Pakistan caught fire after hitting a van parked on the shoulder of an intercity highway in eastern Punjab province, killing at least 20 people and injuring 11 others, police and rescue officials said Sunday.

 

The accident occurred early Sunday near Pindi Bhattian, where the Islamabad-bound bus hit a van parked on the shoulder of the Lahore-Islamabad Motorway, senior police officer Fahad Ahmed said. The van was carrying fuel drums, which caused an inferno that engulfed the bus, Ahmed said.

 

There were more than 40 passengers on the bus, Ahmed said. Those who were rescued were badly burned, including several in critical condition. Other passengers were slightly injured with burns after escaping through the windows.

 

The drivers of both vehicles died, police said.

 

Mohammad Jawed, a medical officer at a hospital in nearby Faisalabad district, said two of the seriously burned injured died in the hospital, taking the death toll to 20 with 11 hospitalized.

 

Ehsan Zafar, a spokesman for the motorway police, said the fire completely gutted the bus and only the steel frame remained. He said the fire fighting squad reached the scene in minutes but by that time fire had engulfed both vehicles. He said initial investigation suggests that the accident was due to negligence on the part of the bus driver, who hit the parked vehicle from behind.

 

Imdad Ali, who was on the bus, said most of the passengers were sleeping when the crash happened.

 

“The jerk due to the accident woke everybody but the fire gave no time to passengers to escape. Flames quickly covered the bus like an envelope and all women, children and men were screaming,” Ali said. He said he succeeded in breaking a window but hesitated over climbing through the sharp broken glass.

 

“Suddenly someone pushed me and I fell outside, thank God, and thanks to that man whosoever he was that I am alive.”

 

Accidents happen frequently on Pakistan's highways, where safety standards are often ignored and traffic regulations violated. Fatigued drivers also fall asleep behind the wheel during long drives.

Passengers on Argentina bus run for their lives after public bus becomes engulfed in flames

Passengers fled a public bus on a highway in Argentina after it burst into flames in dramatic footage.

 

On Wednesday, August 16, police security cameras captured the large bus merging onto the General Paz highway in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

 

Moments later security cameras capture the bus pulling into the breakdown lane and a small crowd of passengers tumbling out of the bus and fleeing as smoke slowly drifted from the vehicle.

 

Video captures the fire spreading like wildfire and rapidly engulfing the entire bus and spreading across the asphalt and into the grassy embankment.

 

At first, incoming traffic was able to navigate around the fiery blaze, but after the fuel spillage, the flames impeded all three lanes of traffic, bringing traffic to a halt.

 

Local media reported that the cause of the fire was an electrical mechanical problem that was quickly put out by firefighters.

 

No one was injured during the incident.

Dr. Caroline Orr is a postdoctoral research associate at ARLIS focusing on cognitive security and mis/dis/malinformation related to COVID-19, vaccination and the pandemic.

 

Orr earned her Ph.D. in Social and Behavioral Sciences from Virginia Commonwealth University, where she was honored to receive the Charles C. Clayton award for outstanding early-career performance. While at VCU, Dr. Orr and her colleagues won the International ABERJE Top Paper Award in 2016 for their research investigating vaccine-related misinformation on social media. Along with her colleagues, Dr. Orr pioneered a new theory-based mixed-methods approach to studying misinformation on social media platforms and was among the first to develop a theory-based framework for classifying misinformation on image-based platforms. Dr. Orr’s dissertation focused on the synthesis of meta-analytic methods with structured, qualitative coding schemes and a newly-developed taxonomy of behavior change techniques to first evaluate how behavior change theory was being used in published randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and whether the use of theory was associated with effectiveness, and secondly, to identify, isolate, and quantify the effectiveness of individual behavior change techniques used in RCTs. Her work provided a framework for investigating not only whether an intervention is effective, but what component or combination of components accounted for the effects, which could be used to greatly reduce waste, decrease costs, and minimize participant burden in future complex behavior change interventions. Dr. Orr also worked as a research analyst and journalist during this time, focusing on detection and analysis of foreign and domestic disinformation campaigns and the role of social media and alternative media sites in online extremism and radicalization. In 2019, Dr. Orr led the Election Integrity Reporting Project at Canada’s National Observer in the lead-up to the Canadian federal election. Her work on that project was the subject of a 2020 white paper, Digital Fractures: Disinformation, Democracy, and the Media, and is being used as a model for the study of disinformation in newsrooms. In August 2021, Dr. Orr joined ARLIS as a postdoctoral research associate.

Nobel prize winning researcher Ivan Pavlov established a series of brilliant, sadistic, experiments, that wholesale reorganization of the human mind is a natural defense by the brain against cumulative stress.

YouTube Joins Prosecution Of Donald Trump

 

YouTube, owned by Google’s parent company, is scrubbing evidence from the web that exonerates Donald Trump in the criminal case that alleges the former president incited or conspired demonstrators to storm the Capitol building on January 6, 2021.

 

A focal point of the left’s conspiracy theory against Trump is that he incited the crowd during his speech at the Ellipse on January 6, 2021.

 

Footage recorded of Trump’s speech at the Ellipse on January 6 filmed confirms the plurality of demonstrators in the crowd could not even hear what Trump was saying.

 

The video proves that President Trump incited no one, called for no riots, no storming or taking of the Capital and that he asked the American people to be peaceful in their God-given right to peacefully protest.

 

As news of an indictment of Trump became widespread, YouTube removed the video after it sat on the site for 22 months, along with other videos that showcase the extent Trump’s speech was inaudible to protesters.

 

The attorney who recorded and posted the footage, Jonathon Mosely, received notice from YouTube that the video was removed because it contains “misinformation.” Mosely appealed the censorship again last week, noting that he personally filmed the scene, that it is the footage he himself recorded and the content is therefore not misinformation. But YouTube denied the appeal and it remains deleted.

 

Mosely, who previously represented Oath Keeper Kelly Meggs and Proud Boys leader Zachary Rehl, warns “YouTube is trying to help America’s modern ‘Inspector Javert’ Jack Smith convict Donald Trump.”
