Eva Andersson-Dubin

 

"Eva Birgitta Andersson-Dubin (born 1961) is a Swedish physician. She is also the founder of the Dubin Breast Center at the Tisch Cancer Institute at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City.[1] She is married to hedge fund billionaire Glenn Dubin. She worked as a model and won the Miss Sweden contest in 1980.

Education and medical career

 

Born in Sweden, she earned a high school diploma from Östraboskolan (Östrabo school) where she was pre-med and graduated first in her class. While in school, she pursued a career in modeling and in 1980 was named Miss Sweden and placed fourth runner up in the Miss Universe contest. She attended Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm for three and a half years and then transferred to UCLA's School of Medicine where she earned her MD in 1989. She then completed her residency in internal medicine at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York in 1990.[2]

 

Andersson-Dubin was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2002. In 2004 she joined the Mt. Sinai Board of Trustees and began work to create the Dubin Breast Center at Mount Sinai Hospital, which opened in 2011. Eva and her husband donated approximately $19 million and were involved in raising an additional $24 million for the center, where breast cancer diagnosis and treatment are integrated under one roof. According to The Wall Street Journal, as both a patient and a physician, she contributed to many aspects of the center's development. As of 2018, the center had processed 180,000 patient visits.[3][1]

Gerard W. Ford, who founded and ran Ford Models with his wife Eileen Ford, discovered Eva Andersson while she was walking down the street in New York City. Jerry Ford took Eva Andersson to meet Eileen Ford and Andersson became a Ford Model. In the late 1970s, Eileen Ford the American model agency executive and co-founder of Ford Models described Eva Andersson-Dubin's legs on her modeling card as: "excellent". Later, Eva Andersson was entered into the Miss Sweden contest without her knowledge, and won Miss Sweden 1980.[2] She hosted Melodifestivalen 1985, the annual song competition where the Swedish entry is selected for the Eurovision Song Contest.[4]

Personal life

 

Eva Andersson dated Jeffrey Epstein.[5][6][7] Eva Andersson continued to "socialize with Epstein after his time in jail"[8] for pleading guilty in 2008 to a state charge (one of two) of procuring for prostitution a girl below age 18.[9][7]

 

In the early 1990s, Eva Andersson was seen by her future husband Glenn Dubin for the first time via a modeling photo in the New York Post's Page Six section. The couple was married in 1994 and has three children.[2]"

A Jewish-owned grocery store in Toronto has become the victim of an apparent antisemitic arson attack, in what local officials are saying is further evidence of a ramp-up in “lawlessness” targeting the Jewish community.

 

Around 6 a.m. on Wednesday, Toronto Fire responded to smoke issuing from the rear doors of International Deli Foods, a Jewish-owned grocery store located near the campus of York University.

 

Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze quickly and without injury, but news photos from the scene showed that the fire had broken out near graffiti reading “Free Palestine.” An inspection of the building also revealed smashed windows.

 

Toronto police say the fire is being investigated as a suspected hate-motivated crime, while a string of Toronto officials denounced the blaze Wednesday as an attack against the city’s Jewish community.

 

Aside from carrying a few Israeli-made items, the store does not overtly deal in Jewish products or kosher foods. International Deli Foods brands itself as one of Toronto’s “first European delicatessen grocery stores,” and has been known to publish flyers in Russian.

 

But the store’s front entrance carries the initials “IDF,” the same as those used for the Israel Defense Forces. And after the fire, municipal representatives reported that the store is owned by a Jewish family of Russian origin.

“This is a hate motivated attack on a Jewish owned business,” read a social media post by James Pasternak, city councillor for Ward 6. “This escalation of lawlessness in Toronto must come to an end.”

The store is just south of the civic boundaries of Vaughan, Ont. On Wednesday, Vaughan mayor Steven Del Duca – a former leader of the Ontario Liberals – said in an official reaction “I have just seen the news about the horrible, anti-semitic attack at International Delicatessen Foods in Toronto.”

 

Del Duca added that the fire occurred amid a spate of “increasing intolerance targeting Jewish-owned businesses and predominantly Jewish neighbourhoods.”

 

But perhaps the most vociferous condemnation came from Roman Baber, a former Conservative leadership candidate who used to represent the riding of York Centre in the Ontario Legislative Assembly.

 

“Today’s fire in a Jewish-owned grocery store in York Centre is a dangerous new low in what has morphed into an out of control situation,” Baber said Wednesday, calling it “a pivotal moment in Canadian history” and implying that the law was not being applied equally in responding to anti-Jewish hate incidents.

The Southern District of New York on Wednesday published a batch of 40 documents related to a defamation case filed by Prince Andrew accuser Virginia Roberts Giuffre against Epstein's former girlfriend Ghislaine Maxwell, who is serving a 20-year prison sentence for sex crimes.

 

The case was settled in 2017, and Epstein was found dead in a Manhattan jail cell in 2019, but the case is making headlines again after media outlets sued to have documents related to it published.

 

Among the materials was was a list of nearly 80 individuals whom Giuffre's attorneys identified as being "likely to have discoverable information relevant" to the case. Among those Giuffre's attorneys identified were high-profile figures such as Harvard Professor Emeritus Alan Dershowitz, former FBI Director Louis Freeh, and Prince Andrew, Duke of York.

Former President Donald Trump on Wednesday asked the Supreme Court to take up his removal from the Colorado Republican primary ballot after the state supreme court declared him ineligible under the 14th Amendment, Reuters reported.

 

The Colorado Supreme Court in late December determined that Trump's role in the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot constituted insurrection and disqualified him from returning to the White House. The campaign swiftly vowed to appeal what it called a "completely flawed" decision.
