The Press Misleads - The Supreme Court has not Eliminated Texas' Right to Defend Its Property.

"The Supreme Court’s order has been the subject of widespread and sometimes fiery commentary. However, the press and commentators are mis-analysing the order. Governor Abbott and Texas are still free to prevent the feds from cutting their wire. The Supreme Court’s order does not forbid that. The press is misleading you."

…The reason that the press and other commentators and critics are incorrect is that they apparently fail to understand the limited effect of vacating an injunction. After the Supreme Court’s order vacating the injunction, the status quo was the same as it was prior to the TRO ever being entered: There is no court order prohibiting the Government from taking down the wire AND there likewise is no Supreme Court order or opinion saying that the Government had a right to take down the wire. Nor is there an order by any court that Texas cannot protect its own property, namely the concertina wire.

About five years ago the only pharmacy in my small town in rural Virginia closed. A year or so later a second county drugstore failed. Soon the owner of the last remaining drugstore in the county was unable to make a profit and had to sell. (These last two managed to reopen at a later date.) I was unaware the loss of our drugstores was a nationwide trend until reading an article by Karen Kerrigan, president and CEO of the Small Business & Entrepreneurship Council. She reported that mom-and-pop drugstores in rural areas were particularly hard hit, leaving about 630 rural communities with no pharmacy by 2018.

Throughout world history, leaders have needed expeditionary units to enforce their rules abroad. When diplomacy fails and time is of the essence, sometimes sending in the full Army is not viable. U.S. citizens may need to be rescued, property protected, or to prevent the slaughter of our allies. The nation needs action immediately; the President needs something destroyed overnight and deploys the Marines – The President’s Fist.

The Constitution grants Congress the sole power to declare war. Congress has declared war on 11 occasions, including its first declaration of war with Great Britain in 1812. Congress approved its last formal declaration of war during World War II. – Senate.gov

Without congressional approval, the president cannot deploy troops. Check.However, presidents have a trump card – the 1973 War Powers Act.Under 50 U.S. Code § 1541 - Purpose and policy section C states:

The constitutional powers of the President as Commander-in-Chief to introduce United States Armed Forces into hostilities, or into situations where imminent involvement in hostilities is clearly indicated by the circumstances, are exercised only pursuant to (1) a declaration of war, (2) specific statutory authorization, or (3) a national emergency created by attack upon the United States, its territories or possessions, or its armed forces.

When I was in boot camp I was told, ‘If the president wants a Marine to protect a Wendy’s overseas, there would be a Marine there within 24 hours.’ There is some truth in that joke. It wasn’t long after the War Powers Act went into effect that presidents used their new power to protect the weak and defeat the strong. There is a fine legal line that the president must walk but thankfully it is clearly defined as Low-Intensity conflict.

On the other hand, military operations that fall below this point would be considered LIC, and under a theory of presidential prerogative, would not be subject to such a constitutional restriction in the absence of specific legislation. – PRESIDENTIAL PREROGATIVE UNDER THE CONSTITUTION TO DEPLOY U.S. MILITARY FORCES IN LOW-INTENSITY CONFLICT, MARK T. UYEDA

So, now we’ve established that the president does have the power to deploy troops but nowhere does it specifically say Marines are the force for these deployments. Technically the president can send any branch he wants.

Legally, yes, the President can now deploy whatever forces he wants instead of the Marines, but in practice that simply doesn't happen, except for small actions by small, covert SOCOM teams, and stuff like that. Whenever it is determined that an actual military task force needs to put boots on the ground somewhere and establish an American military presence, the Marines are still the go-to. This is especially true in “flash-points” around the globe, when unstable situations develop quickly and without much warning. – Sgt. Mitch Carroll USMC

Vice’s Refinery29 and BuzzFeed’s Tasty Are Up for Sale as Digital Media Contracts

BuzzFeed and Vice Media, two onetime darlings of digital media that have shrunk in size and relevance in recent years, are likely to get even smaller.

BuzzFeed, whose stock has lost more than 97% of its value since the company went public in 2021, is looking to sell its food sites, Tasty and First We Feast, according to people familiar with the situation. Meanwhile, Fortress Investment Group, which took over Vice in bankruptcy last year, is in talks to sell its Refinery29 women’s lifestyle-focused site, other people said.

The sale discussions mark yet another chapter in the demise of these digital-media companies that raised money at sky-high valuations nearly a decade ago only to struggle amid a volatile ad market and a decline in traffic sourced from Google and social-media sites.

Vice and BuzzFeed declined to comment.

Fortress is in talks to sell Refinery29 after a failed attempt to find a buyer for Vice in its entirety, which includes its namesake news brand, production studio and creative agency, among other assets. FBI Seizures From Safe Deposit Boxes Violated US Constitution: Federal Court

The FBI’s seizure of contents from safe deposit boxes during a raid on a Beverly Hills vault in 2021 violated the U.S. Constitution, a federal appeals court ruled on Jan. 23.

Agents raided U.S. Private Vaults, a business that allowed people to rent safe deposit boxes anonymously, based on the belief that criminals were using the service. The search warrant stated that agents could only open the boxes to inventory their contents and identify the owners for the return of their property.

However, agents brought drug-sniffing dogs and planned to set aside cash worth more than $5,000, with the intent to seize the money.

When people who rented boxes asked the FBI for their belongings back after the raid, the bureau refused, saying it was going to file for forfeiture or transfer ownership to the government. The renters of the boxes then sued.

A U.S. district judge previously ruled in favor of the government, finding the search was covered by what’s known as an inventory exception to the requirement for a warrant in the U.S. Constitution’s Fourth Amendment.

That exception, though, doesn’t apply to the raid on U.S. Private Vaults, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit ruled.

The ruling hinged largely on how the exception requires searches to operate on standardized instructions and highlighted how the FBI, in the Beverly Hills raid, used supplemental, customized instructions.

“Once the government begins adding a set of ‘customized’ instructions to a ’standardized‘ inventory policy—particularly the type of custom instructions presented by this case—the entire search stops being conducted pursuant to a ’standardized’ policy,” U.S. Circuit Judge Milan D. Smith Jr. wrote in the ruling.

Former President Donald Trump revealed Thursday that his campaign is planning some massive rallies in South Carolina as he looks to trounce former Gov. Nikki Haley (R-SC) in her home state’s primary. Media Matters accuses me of being a qanon influencer.

Then, the ADL publishes a negative story, also labeling me a qanon influencer, citing Media Matters.

Subsequently, Business Insider attacks Elon Musk for engaging with a supposed qanon influencer, citing Media Matters and the ADL.

Following suit, Forbes claims qanon influencers are gaining traction on X, referencing Business Insider.

The Washington Post, the New York Times, and other media outlets then cite Forbes and Business Insider, perpetuating the narrative even though the original claim is based on Media Matters' garbage.

In reality, the corporate media uses personal attacks, guilt by association, and other tactics to discredit anyone who opposes the political establishment.

It's propaganda, not journalism. 😂😂

And the propaganda machine fears that this social media platform is leveling the playing field.

Poland plans to cut benefits for Ukrainians – media

Poland is planning to develop new rules for helping Ukrainian refugees, Rzeczpospolita reported on Tuesday. It said, citing local officials,that many are taking advantage of benefits to which they are not entitled.

According to the article, a special protection regime for Ukrainian refugees which expires in early March will be extended for another six months. After that, therules of assistance are likely to significantly change.

Aneta Zochowska, who heads the Lena Grochowska Foundation for refugees, stressed the need for changes, suggesting that long-term state aid should be extended only to the sick, dependent and disabled, mainly from the frontline regions.

The article also noted that although the Polish government introduced a regulation last spring that Ukrainiansliving in shelters for a longer period of time should partially pay for foodand accommodation,it hasn’t been enforced.

It’s effectively ignored because children, disabled people and their guardians, as well as single parents with at least three children, are exempt from bearing those costs, with Polish officials also told to handle the issue of payments “in a humane manner,”Rzeczpospolita said. As a result, it is almost impossible to verify the refugees’ financial status, with very few Ukrainians ending up paying the fees.

Against this backdrop, the Lena Grochowska Foundation introduced payments for Ukrainians in its refugee centers, varying from $25 to $75 per month per person, adding that “we mobilize the residents to work… we don’t want to teach them retroactive helplessness.”

Ukrainians legally residing in Poland are entitled to food and shelter. Families get a monthly stipend of $123 for their second child and for each additional child. They can also receive a one-time payment of $75 as well as a lump sum of $3,000 for a newborn, among other benefits.

However, in March 2023 the Polish government tightened the rules, allowing refugees to live in temporary accommodation for free for only 120 days from the moment they arrived in the country. After that, they have to cover 50% of their living costs, but no more than $10 per day, and after 180 days – 75% (no more than 15$).

As of late 2023, there were almost one million Ukrainian refugees recorded as residing in Poland, according to UN data. According to local officials, however,just over 40,000 Ukrainians are currently living in state-funded centers. (Why are they relying on UN data, don’t they know how many are in their country?)
