Microsoft has publicly accused its longtime rival Google of running “shadow campaigns” in Europe aimed at discrediting the software giant with regulators and misleading the public.

 

CNBC reports that Microsoft has openly accused Google of engaging in covert operations to undermine the company’s reputation with European regulators and the public. In a blog post published on Monday, Microsoft lawyer Rima Alaily alleged that Google hired a firm to recruit European cloud companies to represent the search giant’s case against Microsoft.

 

According to Alaily, Google has gone to great lengths to conceal its involvement, funding, and control over what she described as an “astroturf group” designed to discredit Microsoft with competition authorities, policymakers, and the public. The group, called the Open Cloud Coalition, is allegedly being launched this week with the backing of Google and a handful of European cloud providers serving as its public face.

 

Microsoft claims that one company, which declined to participate in the coalition, informed them that the group would receive financial support from Google and criticize Microsoft’s practices in Europe. Alaily also linked to a flyer for the Open Cloud Coalition, which states that the consortium is being formed to advocate for a fair, competitive, and open cloud services industry across the UK and EU.

 

Google, however, maintains that it has been very public about its concerns with Microsoft’s cloud licensing practices. A Google Cloud spokesperson stated, “We and many others believe that Microsoft’s anticompetitive practices lock-in customers and create negative downstream effects that impact cybersecurity, innovation, and choice.”

 

This conflict represents a fresh battle between the two tech giants, which compete in various sectors, including cloud infrastructure, online advertising, and productivity software. Google is currently facing increased regulatory scrutiny in both Europe and the United States, where it is in the midst of its second antitrust trial brought by the Justice Department.

South Africa on Monday filed a detailed submission to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) outlining evidence of Israel’s alleged violation of the 1948 Genocide Convention in its ongoing war on Gaza.

 

According to the South African presidency, the submission, also called a memorial, includes 750 pages of evidence of acts of genocide and genocidal intent.

BEAST SYSTEM: Israel to hire U.S.-based biometrics firm to screen Palestinians in Gaza

 

A new "Uber for war zones" scheme was unveiled by Israel this week to start screening, Holocaust-style, every Palestinian in the Gaza Strip.

 

According to reports, Israel plans to hire a private, U.S.-based logistics and security suite to develop a "gated community" in Gaza where all Palestinians would be subject to biometric screenings in order to qualify to receive aid.

 

Israel's war cabinet discussed the proposal over the weekend with plans to approve a "pilot" program within the next two months. Global Delivery Company (GDC), a company run by Israeli-American businessman Mordechai Kahana, is currently in talks with Israel to run the biometrics screening program.

 

For a while now, Israel has been contemplating the creation of so-called "humanitarian bubbles" in northern Gaza, including in and around the Jabalia refugee camp which, for the past three weeks, has been under total siege. Israel is not allowing any food, clean water or medical supplies to enter Jabalia, which is creating a humanitarian crisis.

 

Back in January, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) issued an interim ruling that Israel must take immediate measures to ensure that the Palestinians living in Gaza receive basic services and humanitarian assistance. In response, Israel has come up with this biometrics screening scheme as a prerequisite for receiving aid.

 

 

GDC has been profiting from war for 14 years

It was Kahana himself who came up with the phrase "Uber for war zones" to describe his for-profit business. GDC has been operating this business for the past 14 years during which it operated in and profited from five wars, including in Afghanistan, Iraq, Gaza, Syria and Ukraine.

 

"Personnel working for our security sub-contractor are trained and equipped for non-lethal and lethal methods of crowd control," reads a GDC press release from this week. "They are trained to use deadly force only as a last resort if their lives are in danger."

 

One of GDC's former top officials, Stuart Seldowitz, is also a former U.S. government official who was charged with a hate crime after he abused a street food vendor. While Seldowitz no longer works for GDC, Kahana says he is still open to working with the guy.

 

Kahana himself has said some not-so-savory things about the Palestinians as well. Last November, he referred to Palestinian-American lawmaker Rashida Tlaib as Hamas's "ambassador to the U.S." Kahana has also joked about ethnically cleansing all Palestinians from Gaza and relocating them to Jordan.

 

Other high-level employees at GDC include former high-ranking Israeli military officers and former American military and intelligence operatives, meaning the operation is a military-industrial complex scheme that will surely not be nice to the Palestinians in Gaza.

 

Back in May, the media was reporting that Israel was in talks with U.S. security firms about managing the Rafah crossing at Gaza's southern border with Egypt. A few days after these reports were published, Kahana took to X / Twitter to state that he will be "assisting with humanitarian supplies" in Gaza, the suggestion being that GDC is one of the security firms involved.

 

"We came here with one clear purpose: the purpose is to settle the entire Gaza Strip, not just part of it, not just a few settlements, the entire Gaza Strip from north to south," said Daniella Weiss, the leader of Nachala, an orthodox Jewish settler movement that says it has more than 700 Jewish families that are looking to settle in Gaza.

 

Weiss organized a conference recently at which she promised attendees that the Palestinians will "disappear" from the Gaza Strip in due time, allowing Israel to annex the land as its own.

Hinz’s threats to the Gateway Pundit included this statement: “Well, I certainly hope you take into consideration that there may be defamation issues involved with this, and I think that it would be a really good idea for you to pause, much like we did, and get more information.”

 

These delays are at the core of what the whistleblower says is the payoff scheme he was being offered: name your price but the cost was that the news, and the full story of what happened to him, would never get out.

 

The audio evidence shows the whistleblower challenging Hinz for even trying to set up this alleged extortion deal, stating: “You also told me that you were somehow brokering on my behalf, and it makes me very uncomfortable to call them, because you’re doing something that, I am questioning even as to the ethics of it.” Without missing a beat, Hinz replies, “I understand.”

 

Hinz tells the whistleblower on the tapes: “I, we’re just doing one step at a time. We kinda have to do one step, and then the next step, and the next step. This is the first step. The first step is to make sure that you’re protected, and that you get your money. And that’s, that is the absolute most imperative thing. It is not gonna help our, our State, if you are… It’s not gonna help you, it’s not gonna help our St – it’s not gonna help anybody if, if something happens to… [Hinz stops speaking mid-sentence for about 5 seconds] So, I want you to have plausible deniability.”

The transcripts appear to show that Lori Hinz was not operating as a journalist, but instead it appears she was trying to broker a financial deal for a source to protect North Dakota’s political class, and suppress the explosive news story.

 

The whistleblower claims they never asked Hinz to assist with money. Rather, the whistleblower claims she and BEK’s CEO pursued the extortion deal independently even after receiving a concerned email from the whistleblower clarifying that in no way was BEK authorized to act as the whistleblower’s “agent, representative, negotiator.” The whistleblower was clear in writing that he was only working with BEK “as a media organization who has an interest in reporting this”.

 

Legal experts say that this situation appears to amount to a possible form of extortion, where Hinz, acting as the journalist, crafted herself as a middleman to negotiate a multi-million dollar ‘deal’ with U.S. Senator Kevin Cramer (R-ND) to keep the story out of the news.Those who know Lori Hinz say it is completely out of character for her, and they suspect that she is being pressured to comply and cooperate.

 

Corruption in North Dakota is, according to insiders, rampant and chronic, covered by a cultural desire not to spread negative gossipand also not to smear the name of the state known mostly for farming, missiles, and oil.

House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., on Monday told voters in Pennsylvania that the "little secret" former President Trump mentioned at his Madison Square Garden rally is a get-out-the-vote strategy, not something "diabolical."

"But they are convinced," the speaker added, jokingly rubbing his hands together like he had an evil plan.

 

On Sunday, Trump said his "little secret" with Johnson would help Republicans win congressional elections, but he otherwise kept tight-lipped about it.

 

"I think with our little secret we’re going to do really well with the House, right?" Trump said, directing his remarks at Johnson. "Our little secret is having a big impact. He and I have a little secret — we will tell you what it is when the race is over."

 

His comments, delivered with a chuckle, set off a reported wave of fear and panic among Democrats who speculated that Trump could have been referring to attempts to steal the election.

 

Rep. Dan Goldman, D-N.Y., told the Times he took Trump to mean he had a "backup plan" in case Republicans lose the election.

 

"There’s a lot of ability for a bad actor to mess with the Electoral College if he’s the speaker of the House," he said. "If I’m wrong, they should say so. While security is always important, Democrats are the party of riots, violence, and destruction. If they lose, they don’t care about securing anything. They nearly burned down Washington on Trump’s inauguration in 2017, rioted nightly during 2020, called us all Nazi’s and Trump Hitler for years, and shot Trump in the face.

 

But they are ramping up mass security for the Capitol because they are planning to maintain control of the Capitol by winning the House.

Hinz challenges that characterization of the excerpts.While confirming the accuracy and authenticity of the recordings, she claims she was merely assisting the whistleblower, and it was not a financial transaction in exchange for not running a story. Hinz said that the longer recordings were relevant, but could not clarify what was left out of the extended versions. The Gateway Pundit has reviewed the longer audio and there is nothing relevant missing from the excerpts. Hinz said her primary goal was the safety of the source and ensuring that the state government fulfilled on their promises. Hinz also protested that she was recorded without her knowledge, though that is legal in North Dakota.

 

Independent Governor candidate Michael Coachman tells the Gateway Pundit this mafia-style leadership approach in North Dakota is the very thing his candidacy intends to change, and that he has been active in trying to solve this problem without resorting to extortion. “When I first met the whistleblower, I prayed with his family, and they were scared. The U.S. Capitol Police, in coordination with federal agencies, conducted a “Casualty Evacuation Exercise” Monday night, just over a week before Election Day. In a public notice, the U.S. Capitol Police stated, “EXERCISE: This evening, the United States Capitol Police & our federal partners are conducting a routine training exercise on the grounds of the U.S. Capitol. Please do not be alarmed if you see emergency vehicles and low flying helicopters.”

This exercise took place one week after the Capitol Police conducted a campus-wide evacuation drill.

“EXERCISE: This morning, at approximately 10:00 am, we will have a campus-wide evacuation exercise. The routine drill is in coordination with our Legislative Branch partners. Expect temporary street closures to include Constitution Avenue, Independence Avenue, and D Street, NE,” Capitol police wrote on Monday, October 21.

 

The timing of this exercise, coming just as the 2024 elections approach, has raised alarms among some conservative leaders, including Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA). Greene has issued a stark warning about what she believes is a calculated move by Democrats to secure control over the Capitol ahead of January 6, the date designated for certification of the presidential election.

In a statement to her supporters,Greene argued that the Democrats are ramping up security measures in Washington, not to protect the people, but to further entrench their hold on the government should they lose seats in the House. Read Rep. Greene’s statement below:

How Does AIPAC Shape Washington? We Tracked Every Dollar.

 

The Intercept followed AIPAC’s money trail to reveal how its political spending impacts the balance of power in Congress.

 

For decades, the American Israel Public Affairs Committee had been an influential presence on Capitol Hill, working behind the scenes to lobby politicians and their staffers in support of Israel. But ahead of the 2022 midterm elections, AIPAC made a decision that would fundamentally alter its purpose and the contours of American politics.

 

After 60 years of issues-based lobbying, AIPAC for the first time opted to spend directly on campaigns. Flush with millions of dollars from loyal donors, among them Republican billionaires and megadonors to former President Donald Trump, AIPAC embraced a new strategy. It would use its vast funds to oust progressive members of Congress who have criticized human rights abuses by Israel and the country’s receipt of billions of U.S. dollars in military funding.

 

Just two years after it started pouring money into campaigns, AIPAC has become one of the largest outside spenders in congressional elections. The Intercept has chronicled AIPAC’s power through coverage of individual races, but never before has AIPAC’s massive outflow of money been analyzed in sum. This project uses records from the Federal Election Commission — submitted by the lobbying group’s federal political action committee, AIPAC PAC, and its super PAC, United Democracy Project — to map how much money has been spent on behalf of Israel, where these groups are doling out money, and what impact those funds are having on the balance of power in Congress.

 

AIPAC did not respond to a request for comment.

 

After each of its wins this cycle, AIPAC posted to X: “Being pro-Israel is good policy and good politics!”

 

While it’s true that AIPAC won the overwhelming majority of races it waded into, the picture that emerges from AIPAC’s paper trail is more complex.

 

The Big Picture

When it rolled out its new strategy in the 2022 election cycle, AIPAC found immediate success. The lobbying group and another pro-Israel group, Democratic Majority for Israel, defeated Reps. Andy Levin, D-Mich., and Marie Newman, D-Ill., who were outspoken in their criticism of unconditional U.S. military funding for Israel. The campaign to defeat Levin marked a significant push from AIPAC to repress criticism of Israel even from Jewish members of Congress.

 

AIPAC has spent money on more than 80 percent of the 469 seats up for reelection this year.

 

Ahead of the 2024 cycle and amid growing public outrage over Israel’s war on Gaza, AIPAC made a bold pronouncement: Through its United Democracy Project arm and AIPAC PAC, it would spend $100 million on elections, about one-sixth of what outside groups spent on the 2020 presidential election.

 

There are few congressional races that AIPAC sat out this year. Of the 469 seats up for reelection this year, AIPAC has spent money on more than 80 percent: 389 races in total. AIPAC has sought influence over 363 seats in the House and 26 in the Senate.

 

Of the 389 candidates AIPAC funded, 57 did not face a primary. Of the primary elections that did take place, 88 candidates had no opponent.

The Washington Post has abandoned its decades-long tradition of endorsing a US presidential candidate to earn back the trust of the American public, the newspaper’s owner, Jeff Bezos, has said. The billionaire explained his reasoning in an op-ed published by the Post on Monday after facing a backlash from current and former staff.

 

The newspaper had endorsed candidates since 1976, but announced the suspension of the practice on Friday, prompting several editors to resign. The Post’s editorial board endorsed Hillary Clinton in 2016 and Joe Biden in 2020. According to CNN, the newspaper’s staffers had drafted an endorsement of Democratic candidate Kamala Harris ahead of the election next month, but it was ultimately not approved by the management.

 

Bezos began his op-ed by citing a recent Gallup poll, which found that nearly 70% of Americans have little or no trust in the media. “Our profession is now the least trusted of all. Something we are doing is clearly not working,” the entrepreneur wrote, adding that “most people believe the media is biased.”

 

“Presidential endorsements do nothing to tip the scales of an election,” he continued. “What presidential endorsements actually do is create a perception of bias. A perception of non-independence. Ending them is a principled decision, and it’s the right one.”

The founder of Amazon and aerospace manufacturer Blue Origin admitted that the decision to drop endorsements so close to Election Day on November 5 was the result of “inadequate planning.” At the same time, he insisted that neither campaign had affected his decision-making, and that the move to abandon endorsements was not connected to last week’s meeting between Republican candidate Donald Trump and top Blue Origin executives in Austin, Texas.

 

A total of 21 of the Post’s opinion columnists signed a statement describing the non-endorsement as “a terrible mistake.” They argued that “this isn’t the right moment, when one candidate is advocating positions that directly threaten freedom of the press and the values of the Constitution.”

 

Three of the newspaper’s ten-person editorial board have since stepped down. More than 200,000 people – or about 8% of the Post’s paid subscribers – had canceled their digital subscription by midday on Monday, according to NPR. The decision to end endorsements was criticized by many prominent journalists, including the Post’s former longtime executive editor Marty Baron.

A ballot printing error in Nevada County, California caused scanning issues with 77,000 mail-in ballots.

 

According to election officials,there were imperfections in the barcodes which prevented the ballot scanners from counting the ballots properly.

 

They diagnosed the issue as an ink overspray on some of the barcodes.

 

CBS News reported:

Nevada County is having trouble with their mail-in ballots due to a printing error. With Election Day nearing, county officials are working around the clock to fix the problem.

 

Nevada County’s elections office first realized something was wrong on Monday. The next day, they diagnosed the problem, and the error was specific to vote-by-mail ballots. They’re not sure exactly how many of the 77,000 ballots issued were affected, but they have a plan to rescan the ones that are.

 

“A lot of the public is very nervous about the process, about the results,” said Penn Valley resident Leilani Vevang.

 

The county’s machines weren’t properly reading all the ballots,so they called the California Secretary of State’s Office. The printing service then diagnosed the issue as an ink overspray on some of the bar codes.

 

“Some of our ballots, if you look really closely and use a magnifying glass, you will see that there is imperfections in the bar codes,” said Nevada County Clerk Recorder Natalie Adona.

 

“We will use a report and say, ‘OK, which pages did not go through?’ We’ll pull those out and we’ll mark them as to be rescanned, and we will rescan them with a piece of paper where the bar code is very clear.”(WTF that will never work)

A Democrat voter was arrested for making death threats against Donald Trump the day before he appeared at a rally in Pennsylvania.

 

Paul J. Gavenonis, 74, who uses female pronouns, was detained after she was overheard making the remarks while trying to obtain a parking pass at Penn State University.

 

Gavenonis declared, 'I hate Donald Trump, I'd like to shoot that guy' according to police, who say she also mimed a 'racking gun motion' with her hands, the Lexington Herald Leader reports.

 

Gavenonis has been charged with misdemeanor counts of terror threats and disorderly conduct.

 

She was reported by the clerk who issued the parking pass after Gavenonis described climbing to the top of a building and said 'you can't take a gun in or the students will see it'.

 

It was not clear if she was attempting to buy a parking pass for the day of the rally.

 

Penn state police and the Secret Service interviewed Gavenonis after the incident was reported.

 

During the interview, she reportedly laughed and joked about targeting Trump at the rally, even saying: 'Frankly, I hope somebody would get him', according to police.

 

She was booked in to Centre County Correctional Facility on Friday pending a preliminary hearing scheduled for Wednesday.

 

Trump appeared at the Bryce Jordan Center in Centre County in front of thousands supporters on Saturday.

 

It was the second time he narrowly avoided danger in the Keystone State after surviving an assassination attempt during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania earlier this year.

Christina White, the county’s elections supervisor, stated that the mishap was due to a failure on the part of the county worker responsible for transporting the ballots, according to the Miami Herald.

Man serving 30 years for attacking Nancy Pelosi’s husband gets a life term on state charges

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — The man who was sentenced to 30 years in federal prison for attacking the husband of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi with a hammer in their California home was sentenced Tuesday to life in prison without the possibility of parole following a separate state trial.

A San Francisco jury in June found David DePape guilty of charges including aggravated kidnapping, first-degree burglary and false imprisonment of an elder.

Before issuing the sentence, Judge Harry Dorfman dismissed arguments from DePape’s attorneys that he be granted a new trial for the 2022 attack against Paul Pelosi, who was 82 years old at the time.

“It’s my intention that Mr. DePape will never get out of prison, he can never be paroled,” Dorfman said while handing out the punishment.

One of the defense attorneys, Adam Lipson, asked Dorfman before the sentence was handed down to consider DePape’s mental health and isolation that made him susceptible to online propaganda.

“This is a man who has always been a peaceful, law-abiding person up until his activation,” Lipson said.

When given the chance to address the court prior to his sentencing, DePape, dressed in prison orange and with his brown hair in a ponytail, spoke at length about Sept. 11 being an inside job, his ex-wife being replaced by a body double, and his government-provided attorneys conspiring against him.

“I’m a psychic,” DePape told the court, reading from sheets of paper. “The more I meditate, the more psychic I get.”

In a letter read in court by the victim’s daughter, Christine Pelosi, Paul Pelosi called for the maximum sentence, saying the “last peaceful sleep” he had ended abruptly “when the defendant violently broke into my home, burst into my bedroom and stood over my bed with a hammer and zip ties demanding to see my wife, yelling ‘Where’s Nancy?’”

He said the attack left him with bumps on his head, a metal plate in it, dizziness and nerve damage in his left hand. Sleeping alone at home evokes memories of the attack, he said.

Previously, a federal jury convicted DePape of assaulting a federal official’s family member and attempting to kidnap a federal official. In May, he was sentenced to 30 years in federal prison during an unusual resentencing hearing that resulted from judicial error. The punishment in the state trial will run concurrently with the federal sentence.

DePape’s attorneys have said the state trial amounted to double jeopardy following his federal conviction. Even though the criminal counts were not exactly the same, the two cases stem from the same act, they argued. The judge did dismiss some of the state charges but kept others that were not covered by the federal case.

The Oct. 28, 2022, attack on Paul Pelosi was captured on police body camera video just days before the midterm elections and shocked the political world. He suffered head wounds, including a skull fracture that was mended with plates and screws. His right arm and hand were also injured.

DePape, a Canadian citizen who has been living in the U.S. for years, admitted during his federal trial that he planned to hold Nancy Pelosi hostage, record his interrogation of her, and “break her kneecaps” if she did not admit to the lies he said she told about “Russiagate,” a reference to the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential campaign.

MNSBC's Joe Scarborough has reignited his long-simmering feud with Donald Trump over the former president's claim that the morning show host killed an intern back when he was a congressman.

 

Scarborough recalled the former president attacking him in May 2020 over the 2001 death of Lori Klausutis while speaking on his show 'Morning Joe' on Tuesday.

 

Klausutis had been working for Scarborough, who was back then a GOP congressman, when she died in his Florida district office after falling and hitting her head.

 

Trump has consistently implied there was more to the incident and that Scarborough had played a part in her death, a notion that has been debunked.

 

'When Donald Trump decided to attack me because he didn’t like my COVID coverage and he lied about a woman who worked in my office and claimed that we were involved and that I had her killed,' Scarborough began his rant.

FBI investigating after arsonist targets ballot drop boxes in Washington and Oregon

The FBI is investigating after hundreds of ballots were damaged when incendiary devices set fire to ballot drop boxes in Oregon and Washington early Monday morning.

 

Investigators said during a news conference on Monday that surveillance images show a Volvo stopping at a ballot drop box in Portland before nearby security found a fire inside the drop box. The fire damaged three ballots inside.

 

Another fire at a ballot drop box in Vancouver, Washington, destroyed hundreds of ballots. The Clark County, Washington, elections auditor said the last ballot pickup at the Vancouver location was 11 a.m. Saturday.

 

Police said incendiary devices were attached to the outside of both ballot drop boxes in Washington and Oregon.

 

During Monday’s news conference, investigators said enough material from the devices was recovered to show the two fires Monday morning were connected. Officials said the fires also appear to be connected to another incident on Oct. 8, when another incendiary device was placed at a different ballot drop box in Vancouver.

 

The ballot drop boxes in Washington and Oregon both have fire suppression systems that are designed to activate when the temperature inside reaches a certain point, coating ballots inside with a fire-suppressing powder. The system appeared to have worked in the Portland drop box, and security staffers were nearby to help put out the fire. However, the system failed at the drop box location in Vancouver.

 

The incendiary device found on Oct. 8 in downtown Vancouver did not damage the box or destroy any ballots, police said.

AUSTIN, Texas — Police are investigating after a student was stabbed to death at a Manor ISD high school on Tuesday.

 

The stabbing was reported Tuesday afternoon at Manor Senior High School on FM 973.

 

Details are limited, but the district said two students were involved in an altercation on campus before the stabbing. Austin-Travis County EMS later confirmed that a teen patient was pronounced dead on scene after unsuccessful resuscitation efforts.
